Okay, how was this problem solved?

It simply went away once more people got involved.

Okay, not guarantee.  What about Quark makes mining with GPUs or Asics difficult?

Much bigger innovations and progress are made in GPUs lately than in CPUs.
And Asics are a different beast totally. Basically every thinkable algorithm can be made into a specialized ASIC,
but the problem seems to be more in the memory and data throughput.

Bitcoin has the ability to use two different hashing algos right now, but just uses one twice.  This kind of thing coudl be spliced onto Bitcoin without stopping the running network, I'm just curious as to the merits of such a thing.  As you noted, there is a case of deminishing returns with adding extra locks onto the same door.

Yes, it's a jungle out there. Have you ever seen a book at amazon with the name "Bitcoin, how the protocol works"...?
Is there any academic institution (university, etc) teaching the bitcoin protocol basics and looking for further innovations?

I don't think so, cause they are government institutions, and no taxmoney will go into that.

So, it remains to be seen... at this moment bitcoin and altcoins are a "closed book" even for large parts of academia.

That's what makes it so interesting.

So honest answer: sorry, I can't answer your questions and concerns without first trying to understand what happens at lowlevel protocol in those cryptocoins.

so, is QRK still solo minable, or not..?

Just a couple questions...

1) with a target block interval of only 30 seconds, aren't block orphaned at a high rate?

2) how can cpu mining be guaranteed?

3) what is the advantage that Quark has that those in this thread consider to be deficient in Bitcoin?

Seriously, I don't understand the attraction.

1) at the beginning that was a problem, now not anymore.

2) No one can guarantee anything. Since when do cryptocurrencies or any software whatsoever come with a guarantee?

Who knows what kind of computers will exist in even 10 years. With a little bad luck those future computers can do all bitcoin
mining within a day, and make bitcoins very obsolete...

3) The money master Bill Still is behind it, and it has the same name like the most likeable figure in StarTrek Deepspace nine.
No, just kidding. I suppose that remains to be seen, they say it has many different hashing algorithms put together and not just one, like bitcoin.
But does this logic equate more security?
If I put 6 different locks on my door, is it more secure? Not really... there are other factors.
3385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 04, 2013, 05:00:42 AM

lol, yeah, I am watching it as we speak... started about 20 min ago... what an idiot, the same lame accusations over and over again.

All accusations could have been made with bitcoin 3 years ago...

That's like jealousy between siblings... like the older brother who hates on the younger because he hates competition....can't explain the psychology behind this otherwise...

Im honestly not for any particular cryptocurrency, i would like to see all the good ones succeed. Its incredibly frustrating when people can't look at this from a different point of view....

Yes, and I understand the concerns and doubts, because there are really scamcoins out there.

But at this point, what happens with QRK is like a deliberate character assassination.

Best thing to do, is not concern ourselves with defending ourselves but with working on QRK community and tools, and try to realize most of the points of the previous list that was posted here.

That wiki Quark article is under heavy vandalism attack by Bitcoin miners who've now realized that their ASIC miners are pretty much useless in reality.

lol, hey I expect an ASIC miner too, and I am a QRK lover...

I am not going to use the ASIC for bitcoin mining though... there are other SHA-256 currencies out there.

Why is bitcoin getting all the spotlight..., lol

....
JOB: create portal similar to localbitcoins. Goal, within 3 months. Pledge: 250k QRK

I know its only an estimate for the bounty of the website but 250k is a bit too much lol.  For the amount promised to be actually given it should be around 20-50k Quark for each Goal ranging in difficulty. Considering if it hits $1 soon that will be an amazing bounty for a specific task on the goals list.

Well... and I say that's the greed that's going to kill QRK.

How much do you think does a good secure portal cost? And one that must be maintained for an indefinite time?

Seriously, it's all about showing to the world that QRK is fairly distributed, and no better way to do that then to pay good people for good work.

The QRKs pledged will not be lost, dude, they will be "distributed".

Don't forget there are 200 millions in the hands of a few dozen people (I suspect) and that IS going to keep a lot of people away from QRK, forever!

Agreed. But im talking about the smaller tasks, a site such as LocalBitcoins for Quark should at least have a 200k Quark Bounty.

We agree. But depends on the specifications of the job. It can easily be 250k if you ask me.
People are not gonna want to use a cheap site. You need some sort of reputation system, etc...

You have a crystal ball or something?

I think QRK that are payed now for a developer should not be fixated on some future speculative price.
Make the devs believe that they are really on to something, and that the price is really worth it.

Now is really not the time for greed, lol
3391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 04, 2013, 01:58:33 AM
I'm supporting all ti s development - right now my priority has been helping new users get a Bitcoin to buy QRK -

as pretty important task - but we are working and i'm developing a nice team of  contact in my development email -

so hopefully we can see some positive movement -

is is just me or is _QRK "stuck" on coinmarketcap.com

these poor guys really don't like us -

how it go:

"A barking dog doesn't chase parked cars"

Don't worry, I am working on my own marketcap (but not only) website, it will be finished within a week.
Be assured that QRK will not be treated badly there. ;-)

Great list.

A thing to add, would be a quarkcoin giveaway...

If quark is to be this fairly distributed currency, we should really think about spreading those QRK around, especially to beginners.

And especially now when QRK is below 1$.

And I don't mean a quarkcoin giveaway here on this forum, but somewhere more qrk-only-related.
Make the user do something... sign up, download a wallet, etc and give him a qrk as present.

You hear me, QRK-Millionaires?

This is actually a really great idea. It would go a long way towards smoothing over some of the "98%" crap you keep seeing over and over again if reference to QRK.

EXACTLY!

The only difficulty is to find a giveaway system that can't be easily abused.

But it is true, nearly everyone I see thinks QRK is massively premined. And they distance themselves even more if you try to give a so-called explanation why it's NOT premined, although it absolutely looks like that.
First impression is what counts, sadly. But that's just the way it is.

Another form of really valuable giveaway can be learned when you look at how devcoins are distributed to developers.
If you want to spread QRK around the good way, create a form of public to-do-list, where jobs are advertised, like:

JOB: create portal similar to localbitcoins. Goal, within 3 months. Pledge: 250k QRK

etc...

Let the developer know what he can get in advance if he helps the community.
And have a website where those pledged amounts of QRK are kept by an escrow.
And have a public address visible where the amount of QRK is checkable.

etc

Someone designed a site for Quark on Reddit.

http://gavinbenda.com.au/qrk/

Why change the logo? Now that it has been on exchanges, marketcap sites and on multiple videos and tweets like bill stills, etc..
it's too late for that.

Quark logo is FINE!

But I like the rest of the design of this site very much.

Quark forum news: I have some tentaive news ! its still unconfirmed , But i do have a date....stay tuned ... : D --- @ Kolin_Quark Bill - @billstill

Wonder what it is

Bill Still's website billstill.com is still down, now for nearly a week.

Is it so difficult to just switch to a hoster with bigger bandwidth? Has he no backup of his website?

A professional website would never allow such a big downtime.

Or is there another reason for the disappearance of billstill.com???

It's really like the most inappropriate time for him to have his website down, now with all the publicity and future maxkeiser event.

What the hell is going on here?

Also, is there a way to see list of biggest Quark wallets and how much they hold?

At second thought, it can be done at address-level, but not at wallet level.
No one knows what you have in your wallet, only you.

So a clever holder of big quark money, will distribute his millions over hundreds of addresses to disquise himself from the public eyes.

Also, is there a way to see list of biggest Quark wallets and how much they hold?

You need your own blockexplorer that scans all available addresses in the blockchains, and spits out the amount of QRK in them.

This was done with Bitcoin, so it can be done with QRK.

Now that you talk about it, that would be something that interests me to, I might take a look at it. :-)

Quark is as much a scamcoin as the quark of startrek is a scammer.

Yes, he does use some shaddy practices, but he is not a real criminal. His imaginative ways of making business and love of gambling makes him a likable character, without being a sociopathic crook.... but hey it's a fine line.... lol

What packages are needed for Linux Qt wallet (x64) in Ubuntu 12.04?
if you get errors because of missing files, do a

Code:
apt-get install libqt4-dev

It helped me.
