Just a couple questions...

1) with a target block interval of only 30 seconds, aren't block orphaned at a high rate?

2) how can cpu mining be guaranteed?

3) what is the advantage that Quark has that those in this thread consider to be deficient in Bitcoin?

Seriously, I don't understand the attraction.

re: 1, yes, they are.  Mostly orphaned in favor of that pool that has between 80 and 90% of the hashing power.

Having 80 or 90% of the hashing power also means that pool can essentially do anything it wants..  re: make a massive deposit to cryptsy & then withhold blocks until it built a larger chain to double spend

ed: obv 'cryptohunter' hasnt run a pool, or mines at the pool that has all the hashing power, because orphans are quite frequent, lol

1) at the beginning that was a problem, now not anymore.

2) No one can guarantee anything. Since when do cryptocurrencies or any software whatsoever come with a guarantee?

Who knows what kind of computers will exist in even 10 years. With a little bad luck those future computers can do all bitcoin
mining within a day, and make bitcoins very obsolete...

No, just kidding. I suppose that remains to be seen, they say it has many different hashing algorithms put together and not just one, like bitcoin.
But does this logic equate more security?
If I put 6 different locks on my door, is it more secure? Not really... there are other factors.

p2pool quark stopped working when reward got reduced to 16.

probably something about the subsidy or dust settings

i was gone until just now so didnt notice it, since whenever it flipped to 16.

process killed now.

i have no clue wtf the coins went to, since i didnt receive any either (2 times out of like 8 blocks)

ed: oh, i'm guessing theyre stored somewhere and didnt just disappear into the æther.  i dont even know where to locate a working block explorer,  is there one for quark?  lol.

p2pool data dir is still as was, so if t's storing them as dust payments or something similar then there's probably a change to make to networks.py to get it to pay them all out

but i cant poke around right now.  plus i need to find something else to do with all these cpus, since quark isnt worth a shit anymore now with the drop to 16

http://explorer.andarazoroflove.org/quark/block_crawler.php

I'm working on getting Abe up and running.

ah, awesome.  i'll have to check out all these missing blocks later.  not quite sure what happened to em & curious as to what it'll say in payout

Okay, how was this problem solved?

Okay, not guarantee.  What about Quark makes mining with GPUs or Asics difficult?

Bitcoin has the ability to use two different hashing algos right now, but just uses one twice.  This kind of thing coudl be spliced onto Bitcoin without stopping the running network, I'm just curious as to the merits of such a thing.  As you noted, there is a case of deminishing returns with adding extra locks onto the same door.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

lol, yeah, I am watching it as we speak... started about 20 min ago... what an idiot, the same lame accusations over and over again.

All accusations could have been made with bitcoin 3 years ago...

That's like jealousy between siblings... like the older brother who hates on the younger because he hates competition....can't explain the psychology behind this otherwise...

Im honestly not for any particular cryptocurrency, i would like to see all the good ones succeed. Its incredibly frustrating when people can't look at this from a different point of view....

Yes, and I understand the concerns and doubts, because there are really scamcoins out there.

But at this point, what happens with QRK is like a deliberate character assassination.

Best thing to do, is not concern ourselves with defending ourselves but with working on QRK community and tools, and try to realize most of the points of the previous list that was posted here.

Looks like the vid was posted here.

Okay, how was this problem solved?

well, as I said earlier, it wasn't & I could prove it with log files showing all the orphans

... perhaps one of these doesn't swing in the favor of that pool that has all the hashing power...  of special note is it splitting off an existing fork with 3 of its own blocks (*3 times)

Okay, how was this problem solved?

It simply went away once more people got involved.

Okay, not guarantee.  What about Quark makes mining with GPUs or Asics difficult?

Much bigger innovations and progress are made in GPUs lately than in CPUs.
And Asics are a different beast totally. Basically every thinkable algorithm can be made into a specialized ASIC,
but the problem seems to be more in the memory and data throughput.

Yes, it's a jungle out there. Have you ever seen a book at amazon with the name "Bitcoin, how the protocol works"...?
Is there any academic institution (university, etc) teaching the bitcoin protocol basics and looking for further innovations?

I don't think so, cause they are government institutions, and no taxmoney will go into that.

So, it remains to be seen... at this moment bitcoin and altcoins are a "closed book" even for large parts of academia.

That's what makes it so interesting.

So honest answer: sorry, I can't answer your questions and concerns without first trying to understand what happens at lowlevel protocol in those cryptocoins.

Here's a more recent one... note all the clients that had to request 2 blocks, since they had the.. well.. "proper" chain, you know, the block that was actually reported first.

who look at Source code that or other crypto coin?

As I know of a university programing maximal type variable in C++ is long double.

Can be so that with increasing difficulty (power network) variable in the code that is responsible for it exceeds own type and code just crash?
May it be or not? i dont look a source code.

i am not a panic. just interesting.

i very like english. but it's my second lang

I think the owner of the site: http://coinmarketcap.com/ doesn't like Quarkcoin, why would it just magically disappear from the list?

I think there's a problem with QRK atm, that's why they removed it from the list.

OR,

Not sure, might sound stupid, but it can be related to the ''scam coin'' topic which is out there.

yep, he sure is not in favour of quarkcoin.  (jk)

But his website is also dependend on many outside sources.
Why doesn't he just run a daemon of every coin on his server (instead of external blockexplorers) and get the number of coins with command line getblockcount or moneysupply and then do a little math (block segmentation etc)?
He then only has to multiply it with a weighted price from different exchanges (all have api) and get the marketcap.

That's what I am preparing guys, looking forward to present it to you in a few days.;-)

Both wrong, it's the blockexplorer that is down.

who look at Source code that or other crypto coin?

As I know of a university programing maximal type variable in C++ is long double.

Can be so that with increasing difficulty (power network) variable in the code that is responsible for it exceeds own type and code just crash?
May it be or not? i dont look a source code.

i am not a panic. just interesting.

i very like english. but it's my second lang

The current difficulty is 4 digits, and I don't think it'll ever exceed that. long double can hold insanely long value.

We need a cluster for this.

It's being dumped big time at the moment on cryptsy. I wonder why.
