3382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin algorithm change on: October 24, 2012, 08:46:17 AM
I personally think that's a really good thing.

It really is time that Bitcoin steps away from mining (print free money) thing to attract new users.

It's time that the Community grows because of the awesome possibility BTC provides. And I personally think, that ASICs and reward halving appearing at nearly the same time will force this development.

With this Bitcoiners will have to find ways to use BTC to make money and not just create them.

I really look forward to the next month to come.

3383  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Smallest Transaction Amount? on: October 24, 2012, 08:40:22 AM
I've tried to transfer some coins to BTCJam twice now, and they don't seem to show up, I know that it says it can take hours to days, and in the FAQ in the 'Look Here Topic' gives a link to the Bitcoin block explorer saying that they should appear there. When I do that, however, only the address being sent from lists any transactions, the address I sent to doesn't show anything, nor does anything show up when I search the transaction ID.

So now I'm curious, is there an amount that is too small to send and gets eaten up? MtGox didn't list any transaction fees, and I elected not to pay the 0.005 fee considering that's roughly half of what I've sent total.

I don't know about MT.GOX, but in generall there is no amount to small to send. Do you have the transaction ID. Searching does often not work so good in blockchain. Try to put in direcktly in your browser:

http://blockchain.info/tx/your transaction ID

if it doesn't show up there, then there is no transaction (reported to blockchain.info) yet.

Oh right, could be.

The service was gone for over a month a while back, so I thought he was referring to that.

Sad but true, it's not going up anymore.

Why don't donate BTC directly? There is already a service for that: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52543.msg627057#msg627057

Lots of great info there:

3389  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are all women scammers? Why do we allow people to jizz into sock puppets here? on: October 23, 2012, 10:41:55 PM
But try Blazr for example. I think she is a women (at least female avatar) and definitely not a scammer.

Their avatar is boxxy~

Ohh, silly me  Tongue

The first time a southern girl asked me if I wanted to make a pile, I hesitated out of fear that there might be more than two us involved, and I didn't want to take any chances that the third or more party wasn't female. I answered yes, though, hoping for the best, and later learned that a pile can consist of only two people--to my relief.

Second tit found on far right. She's wearing the bear mask.

With childish naivety I must ask: How do you make a pile with only two people?

3391  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are all women scammers? Why do we allow people to jizz into sock puppets here? on: October 23, 2012, 09:52:50 PM
So two questions really:

1.  Are ALL women on here (female avatars, names I mean) trying to get loans or coin for free one way or another?  If so why?  I haven't seen any particularly reputable looking women here, no offense intended, just facts.

2.  When everyone knows about a dummy account, why is it just allowed?  I can't see any real violation but it sure does seem like a waste of space.

1. You didn't look hard enough. I think at best 0.5% of the community are women, so its hard to find any at all.
But try Blazr for example. I think she is a women (at least female avatar) and definitely not a scammer.

2. How can you possibly proof one is a sockpuppet? Same IP? Doesn't necessarily work and banning one just under the accusation he might be a sockpuppet would be forum dictatorship.

Well (Community), lets not overreact. (I know it hard)

BitInstant, congratulations to what you have done there.

Spreading awareness about Bitcoin is one good thing for the Community.

For you it's most important, that you have shown presence and have made some business contacts.

There are few things so important in the business you are in than knowing the right people and it seems you have made a major step to accomplish that.

Also, by going to http://money2020.com/ and looking on all the companies, I just noticed what a cool logo you have. Nice.

I wish you great success, if anyone really deserves to get filthy rich with his BTC business, it's you guys.

Thank Eris, this blow up before it started. Is there still hope for the BTC community, or was it just because the old wounds are not healed yet?

If a "Investment Opportunity" like this blows up so soon in a half year from now, I will starting to belive that the community really has leaned something.

This is an excellent idea.

I have a even better one, lets just stick with Fiat.  Grin

Hello, WiRmola aka Olli Virkunnen, 34 years old graphic designer at  F-Secure Finland.

Shall we do the "outing you all over the Internet" thing now? Or do you prefer the quiet slinking away thing?

Wow, impressive if true.

Added you to my "People I better not piss off" List.
3398  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Freight forwarding for bitcoins. on: October 23, 2012, 08:39:45 AM
Sometimes people want to order things from Amazon or other US companies because a product might not be released in your own country months afterwards if at all and we need to resort to freight forwarders such as http://www.shipito.com/

Considering bitcoin is a worldwide currency there might be a niche business in ordering products to your local address then forwarding them on to international customers.

I think that's a great idea. Look at this for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=119152.0

or:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=118211.0

a small site, where you can create an account with "I can offer goods from [country]" could do the trick.

You can then for the customers make an overview of countries and witch merchants are there, including merchant rating and more informations.

It can then increase and further develop from this point.

Interested in further develop this idea if someone wants to create such a service.
3399  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: http://www.pyramining.com/ - Discussion thread (no advertising here) on: October 23, 2012, 07:09:57 AM
This raises the question how backups are handled.

Are all Account informations and the Wallet backed up on a regular basis?

Of course. Database and wallet.dat are exported and backed up hourly, keeping several copies (several > 50). Whole server is backed up daily. Sources are managed with GIT on a private repository. The repository is backed up on a daily basis too. The only thing I didn't spend much time on was backing up reliably the blockchain because it can be downloaded anytime. However I see it's taking a lot of time, so I am planning reliable backups of it, too.

Thx. I had wondered if it where different. But you wouldn't believe, what stupid mistakes some people that should now better sometimes do.

Tolle Neuigkeiten, http://mybitcointrade.com/ zeigt jetzt nicht mal mehr den Wartungsmodus an, sondern ist komplett offline. Sieht wohl so aus als hätte "Viktor" endlich das Handtuch geworfen. LOL

Hatte mich eh gefragt, was das ganze sollte.
