I suggest you build a eye catching text that [supposedly] leads people to a great deal for BFL hardware
Ads can't be deceptive like this. Before anyone suggests it: For legal reasons and to avoid too much drama, you can't make assertions of fact that are potentially damaging and possibly false. For example, you can't say, "BFL is a scam," or, "BFL will never deliver." You can say, "BFL is probably a scam," or, "BFL is unlikely to deliver." OP's text is acceptable. Thanks for the guidance!

Myths Wiki (BFL):
--I'll get it quick!
Truth: Pre-Ordering began in June of 2012. The original slated delivery date was scheduled and predicted for October 2012 As of April 2013 no one currently posses any BFL ASIC hardware.
--I'll get rich quick!
Truth: To date, no one has received their BFL ASIC hardware. The current rate of reward for the BitCoin system was halved in November/December of 2012. This means that your BitCoin reward has since been halved.
To date, only customers of competing products have been able to reap the rewards of ASIC implementations. BFL has long been delayed as the last competitor in the field without a working ASIC implementation.
--I don't mind the wait, it will eventually pay off anyway!
Truth: After the reward block was reduced by 50%, many BitCoin miners have found that the difficulty in producing blocks has only increased. This is due to the nature and intended design of BitCoins reward system. The more ASICs come online, the higher the difficulty climbs as people share the rewards and rising difficulty.
--How many people am I competing against to receive this reward?
Truth: It is currently estimated that BFL has several thousands customers in line waiting to receive their (as of yet) undelivered product. Estimates on delivery may be as long as several months through BFL.
The current difficulty of 6 million+ should yield at most about 4 to 6 BitCoins per day. In the near future, this amount is very likely to be reduced even further.

I assume they do allow linking within BitCoinTalk.
I suggest you build a eye catching text that [supposedly] leads people to a great deal for BFL hardware and then hit them with a well concieved post or image that will tell them the truth. What they are about to purchase has had nothing but heartache for customers. The CS agent is an asshole (king of the assholes) and they never deliver on time.
The first hit should be breaking the myths of the "get rich quick scheme" followed by real *disappointed* customer quotes.
A BFL customer would have to be extremely retarded to go ahead with the purchase. I would recommend keeping in mind there are two kinds of customers.
!) The ones with high expectation. (so burst their bubble with actual reality)
!) The newbies who assume they will make a ton of cash but don't know anything about who BFL is, what they do and don't do, and what they can actually expect.
God knows the BFL forum is now a major repellent to any newbie who thinks of purchasing or does purchase and changes their mind after reading all the crap that goes on.
Good ideas. I don't have time to set up a web site, but if anyone would like to I would link to it. The site needs to stick to facts. We could link to an image that has all the details burned in. So a website wouldn't be necessary. Or you could create a BitcoinTalk thread in the off-topic section and that way you could allow other members to give them a good straight talk after the initial reality shock treatment. (heh) For now I was thinking of linking to an original thread from the announcement of October delivery last June. I find it strange that those threads are buried in 'Off-Topic'
I want to stick to simple facts that dash cold water in the face of newbs. The cult followers cannot be helped. And I have no sympathy for fools and their money. But I hate that many people's first experiences with Bitcoin is being ripped off. This is my public service to Bitcoin. It deserves more from me, but it's a start.
I'll be around to help you as much as I can.

Hmm, well I guess I must have a lucky unit as mine has been mining for "4d 11h 19m 24s" no restarts no interruptions. Props to btcguild for awesome stability too.
Do you have it running on a power feed that has a lot of EMI or brief but frequent "micro" brownouts? There must be some cause for the restarts you experience every 12 hours. Is it really that precisely occurring?
It is hard to say for certain. It is definitely not temperature related. I have to admit that BTC guild is a very stable pool. Perhaps it has to do with that, As for the brown outs, I don't have any equipment to log the quality of the line. Although in the same space I put it, there is a two node server and it operates without a hiccup.

What are the ad rules for the content?
Any imagery or only formatted text?

That's my guess as well (not utilizing PWM). I'm of course referring to the blue LED fan which is the one that cools the far left (power supply) section of the system.
I guess this fan is not PWM The problem is, that it was reporting the FAN RPM on the 3/21/2013 Firmware. Which strongly implies that it is PWM enabled. It is probably a software/firmware bug. Downgrade to previous one then. My rule of thumb is that never upgrade unless you have severe problem with current firmware I did have a severe enough problem to warrant the upgrade. It stopped mining and went into a contentious cycle without effectively mining bit-coins. After an upgrade, the unit stopped cycling in that odd behavior. It also restarts by itself when the mining stops for whatever reason. It still does stop mining every 12 hours, but it resets itself without any intervention on my part. So it is pretty much running itself on NEXT firmware (v3/25/2013).

I am pretty sure a resounding yes would follow your question.

You should also call customer service and complain. Ask for the fraud department if you feel you do have a legitimate complaint.
Say these key phrases and they will kill the Paypal account in an instant.
"I was trying to buy my BitCoin Machine..." "It makes BitCoins..." "They were supposed to ship 9 months ago...I am still waiting" "They have my money making machine...!" "They take BitCoin payments too..."
Wham, instant shutdown.
(Well, just get your money out before you do this. Anyone left in line is either going to lose their money instantly or they will have their orders reversed instantly. Though maybe BFL will have one hell of an overdraft fee and have their business account closed as well.)
|
|
|
Well I am certain I am not gonna lose the money with Paypal. I have years of experience dealing with Paypal and I know they are gonna look into it and ultimately release the hold. The question is why do they have it in first place. And as I said in my original post, it is usually when they are investigating the seller for fraudulent activity. They not only put a hold on the sellers funds, but also on all the recent refunds.
And no I (or any others) don't deserve to lose anything. The BFL people deserve to go to jail for running this scam.
There is an annual amount of refund set for each kind of account. I read before that it used to be 5k worth of refunds was acceptable. Then it was raised to 15k of refunds. I am going to take a wild guess and say that they exceeded that by a long shot. So they are being investigated in all likelihood. If they close the account...I wonder if customers with legitimate orders still get their money back. Or if they just get disconnected without recompense. Anyone have a clue? Is their money on the line?

|
Whoa, coming on a little strong there Frankie.
The guy/gal suspects that Paypal is investigating BFL and has frozen their account. This may be the case as I warned earlier (on BFL forums) of people choosing to do disputes first (who can blame them?).
So there it is. Now the refunds process may have a few snags for people through Paypal.
Then again...
Frankly, I don't give a damn. Start every refund with a [legitimate] dispute.

@ BitSyncom
Any hints as to what Gen2 will bring? (Perhaps a very vague (as in BFLish vague) time frame for when the next generation is slated to appear?
I want to know so I can plan on the next series of purchases.

Order DDos'ed! Gee I wonder who that would be?

I think I'll commit Seppuku before this happens. Speaking of which: Inaba, I have a knife to recommend for you when April 1st comes.
edit: oh he removed that Seppuku statement if BFL doesn't ship by April...
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Josh only an employee of BFL? Don't let one employee ruin a great business opportunity. You should have a talk with the real owners of BFL, whoever they are. They should also fire Josh, what kind of company tolerates their employees making public statements like that? Josh told us that himself. He said they are fine with it and even encouraged him on this. At the very least Jody doesn't seem to mind.

BFL has the capacity sitting idle to manufacture ASICs. Avalon has working chips and design. Why not?
What capacity? 3 assembly benches and a reflow oven on a pair of sticks? Not sure why everyone pokes fun at BFL for their equipment - if they had taken pictures of the facility they contracted to populate boards for the BFL singles and the initial batch of SC units people would be screaming scam. The pictures could've been taken from anywhere when the same is true for the Avalon team. At least BFL has production equipment that they own. Avalon hasn't exactly been on the ball as far as unit production goes either. Just finishing batch 1 now? What? It's been quite a while since the original "We're shipping!*" announcement. *shipping defined as 2 review units and a trickle of retail units starting weeks later I think BFL is incompetent as much as Puerto/Frizz/Entropy/etc but sheesh, I wouldn't want to order from Avalon now either - you probably won't get it for 6+ months at their current rate. One group finished the race the other group is still trying to figure out what the course to the finish line is. when success is a finished race, I would say avalon has done a kick ass job. The Chinese Turtle company put some Jetpacks on their shell. They made it past the finish line and are sleeping. The Amercian (Kansas) Rabbit has had a massive coronary Before the start of the race followed by a few embolism. Currently the rabbit is struggling to find its way to the finish line.

I believe they sell them in groups of 100 or so.. to prevent the mass DDOS that happened in batch 1, and 2.
If so, then they learned alot and did things right this time. I am glad to see that they have just gotten a massive shot of funds for their next venture. if you put one in your cart, you see a timer counting from 10 minutes to 0... after that, your cart is emptied and the asic is returned to stock.
Indeed, it looks like they took the communities advice and the issues from previous batches finally stopped. That is a very good sign. God Speed Avalon Team!

I selected this over Bitpay because I had heard of some issues last time around, but I guess those have been solved.
I believe you are confusing BitPay with another (less mature) payment processor.

I am having an issue with the latest firmware (3/21/2013). Over the night, the machine has started to enter into a cycle where it is constantly throttling up then down. As if it were resetting itself constantly.
The fan RPM indicators are also giving out strange numbers which don't make any real sense:
Uptime: 1d 11h 33m 48s
Fan 1: 24720 Fan 2: 7440 Fan 3: 18120
Temp (1/2/3/) (-59,16,-34)
My ambient room temperature is about: 53
I have sent you the logs via PM. I will be doing a hard reset of the machine.
Hmm, interesting. Mine does not report any info for Fan 1. Either it is not connected to a PWM sensor on purpose or not (meaning it fell out during shipment - not likely but possible?) I have the same issue. The FAN 1 is not reporting it's current speed. I wonder if this means it is not utilizing PWM on that particular fan? Xiangfu should have a look into that.
