3381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin time to shine, now that Bitcoin bottomed... on: April 11, 2013, 01:41:19 AM

Not completely rubbish.

He is referring to the fact that you don't need to spend an exorbitant amount of money on custom hardware like you have to do now with Bitcoin mining (ASICs.)

Anyone with a GPU can more profitably mine LTC, meaning it has easier access to the masses (EVERYONE has a GPU in their computer.)

This may change one day, but for now everyone has equal footing, making it fairer.
3382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Physical Litecoins by CryptoVest (Coming soon!!) on: April 11, 2013, 12:35:20 AM
Something I made:

If you want the ai files I can send them to you.
You can use it, change it, mint it or do whatever you want with it.

Cool design  Smiley

I had someone contact me in private about making a neat design for the coins for a percentage of the company.

If we cannot come to terms, I will definitely hit you up- it seems like you could make a good design too.

You would provide a design and I will take care of everything else (funding, manufacturing, and sales).

Thanks,

Ch
3383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][TRC] FORK TERRACOIN FORK FOR INTERIM PATCH ON GITHUB on: April 11, 2013, 12:15:23 AM
This seems like a good short term solution to fix TRC.

I hope everyone adopts this until the Dev can figure out a more permanent fix.

Thanks for your advice!  I got it working!  It was a loose cable and thanks to your advice I found it.

Good to hear, happy hashing Smiley
3386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTE BlockChain stalled? 3 hours+ tx not in blockchain, no new blocks on: April 10, 2013, 03:30:53 AM
Hopefully it isn't a major problem and no one loses a lot of money.

I must recommend to the new comers not to go out and buy every single ALT coin that pops up. These things can happen and they can be worthless overnight.

Do your research before investing in a new currency, a lot of the random ALTs that pop up are pump and dump scams or offer no innovation to the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
3387  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Timeline - illustrated on: April 10, 2013, 01:10:52 AM
Holy crap dude really? You still think they're *JUST* incompetent?

Please explain to me how there was ever a > 0% chance of any ASIC mining products leaving Butterfly Labs during 2012. Then explain to me how BFL staff could have possibly failed to recognize this fact for months while they continuously told pre-order victims that they'd "scheduled shipments" x number of days or weeks in the future. Then there's the official "honest abe" faq that said they'd ship in October of 2012. Roll Eyes

Yep... I've been saying this since December... They knew damn well they wouldn't have products in October/November.

They lied and continue to lie to collect more pre-order monies and deter refunds.

I believe they are getting close now, but I still think they are giving overly optimistic dates like "next week".

Next week... every week.

Ah.. I love being an Avalon customer and not having to worry about BFL's incompetence.

PS: just ignore nathanrees19... he's just a BFL fan boi Wink

3389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can we get some sub forums up in hur? on: April 09, 2013, 02:25:55 AM
bump - mods... ARE YOU ALIVE?!

With the recent influx of new posters in the ALT currency section, we are in dire need of sub forums.

Sometimes after I get done typing a post and hit enter, my new post is already halfway down the first page, never to be seen again in 5 minutes when it makes it to the second page...

It is really ridiculous how cluttered this sub forum is.
3390  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Finally received my batch 1 Avalon #152 ordered / paid on September 23, 2012 on: April 09, 2013, 01:51:32 AM
I finally received my batch 1 Avalon order 200000152 ordered / paid on September 23, 2012? I needed to connect one of the fans.

Bitsyncom / Yifu why did it take so long? My address was correct. I ordered and paid quickly. You didn't ship the unit until April 1st. I lost out on a lot of bitcoins.

What was the point of ordering early?

(Added above to the op)

You sure are angry for someone that's about to make $775 a day. The Avalon will pay itself off in 2 days....

Many people are not as fortunate as you to have ordered a batch one Avalon, I'd recommend you just be happy with what you got, because it is much more than most other miners have.

If you are really that upset, sell it to me for $1500 so that you can stick it to the man.
3391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NMC - Extremely neglected alt coin Ideas of what to do with it on: April 09, 2013, 01:24:01 AM
NMC Looking for ideas of ways nmc can be usefully implemented into sites.

I was considering a registrar similar to what people are used to having, so that it may be put into use more. Any thoughts?

I think you are on the right track, it should be used for something along its original purpose.

NMC is such a good idea, it is a shame it has been neglected all this time.

Good luck jasinlee Smiley
3392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Physical Litecoins by CryptoVest (Coming soon!!) on: April 09, 2013, 01:05:21 AM
Hi everyone,

First of all, I am sorry some of you do not like the design. This is not a final design and it may be tweaked by the time I get everything lined up with the manufacturer and the money to make them. This ended up being much more expensive than I thought... $7000+ just for the first 1000 coins (the security hologram is the expensive part.) Because it is so expensive, I will only carry one or two coins at the start, and no silver coins at all. Hopefully I can expand my selection shortly after launch, but it just depends on many uncontrollable factors.

I am not going to lie and say I am some expert photo shopper/3d guru like some of the people who have made the coins you guys are posting. But, I'm not too into copying anyone, perhaps those guys would like to actually make those coins one day... who am I to steal their design? At least the LTC logo which I have used is fair game.

Although I am not an expert in coin minting, I have an everlasting enthusiasm for the future of Litecoins, the work ethic to make this project happen, and (hopefully soon) the funds to do it. I hope that I can make these in a way that most people will like them (if not I stand to lose a lot of money.)

Thank you all for your feedback, you can be sure that I have read what you all have to say and am considering everything mentioned.

As soon as I have any updates on this project, I will let ya'll know.

Thanks,

Ch

35 BFL FPGA Singles Smiley (2 are broken and being sent back to BFL for replacements so there will be 37 hopefully within a week)

Full size: https://i.imgur.com/jKUnQfe.jpg

All were purchased used through these forums... your unit should be above (other than the broken ones) if you sold me one. :p
Not pictured: 2 box fans, 4 large PC-style fans, a shelf full of more power strips and BFL power bricks, and the console (keyboard/mouse/monitor) for the host computer.
This is in a somewhat cramped basement so it was hard to get a picture with everything in it.

Unfortunately I can't take credit for the custom BFL enclosure at the right of the top shelf; this came with my most recent BFL single purchase. Wink (thanks!!)

Host computer is an Intel Atom machine (the box with the bright blue light) but I'm currently having a lot of USB problems (which could actually be due to the units themselves... maybe it's because they're all used, but BFL Singles can be such a pain sometimes) so I'm looking to replace it with a regular computer soon.

I know that I could power the BFLs from ATX power supplies using custom cables, but it would cost about $1000 US in cables and power supplies, and the Single SC's will require even more power (thicker cables + more power supplies) so I'm holding off until BFL's ASICs are out before I consider alternative power supplies.

I'm considering removing the cases from the units on the bottom shelf and will probably do this if a new host computer doesn't resolve my USB issues.  It almost seems like BFL sacrificed some of the functionality of these things to make them look nice, which I think is a terrible decision considering the purpose of bitcoin mining gear. Wink

Next step: Set up an air conditioner for when summer comes around...

Sick setup, I'm jelly.

I have those same shelves at my place, but unfortunately they're not loaded with FPGAs Grin
3395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: All time highest litecoin mining difficulty? on: April 08, 2013, 11:23:04 PM

ITT we used to complain about 14 difficulty.

Ah... those were the days Smiley
3396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Physical Litecoins by CryptoVest (Coming soon!!) on: April 07, 2013, 11:56:21 PM
Any input on the latest design?

I have already contacted a coin company that's going to make the 4 lowest denomination designs at 250 coins each, this will be the first batch.

I expect to have the coins in about 2 weeks and the holograms will take about 3 weeks, so I think in about a month and a half I can have a completed product in my hands ready to sell to you guys!

I think I will auction the first one off to a good cause and something that will work well with a physical Litecoin... an Armory Clone. 100% of the auction proceeds will go into starting a bounty for an offline wallet/cold storage and an easy to use GUI interface with a LTC private key redeem feature. The winner of the auction will receive a certificate of authentication of being our first physical Litecoin minted and it will come with a nice case. I will add more to this bounty as time goes on to make sure LTC gets such a thing!  Wink

Thanks for the help with the designs! Smiley
3397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] CoinHoarder's Physical Litecoins (Coming soon!!) on: April 07, 2013, 09:57:19 PM
Ok, I came up with a name since you guys dont like my name..  Cry Cry

I think you guys will find it more suitable... CryptoVest

Also I cleaned up the images from earlier and reduced the font size on the numbers slightly so that 100, 500, and 1000 fit in nicely.

Let me know what you think!

3398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A strategy to attack LTC and make money meanwhile on: April 07, 2013, 09:04:59 PM
LTC founding tennent is that it is Asic resistant. They changed the way mining is handled to be more "fair" and dorked with inflation. Otherwise you might as well call it bitcoin.
How can you say ASICs will come to LTC when the whole point of LTC was to prevent people from having an unfair mining advantage? Why do you support LTC in the first place then?

Yes, botnets still exist in bitcoin, but they are being pushed out of the market like I've said.

No, one of its founding tennents was that you could only mine it on the CPU.

That has since been proven to be false, ArtForz disproved that a long time ago when he learned that you can mine it on a GPU.

Nothing is ASIC proof sir... APPLICATION SPECIFIC (meaning it can do anything you program it to do... ie. mine litecoins) INTEGRATED CIRCUIT.
3399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A strategy to attack LTC and make money meanwhile on: April 07, 2013, 08:54:52 PM
I'm not arguing that LTC can't be profitable. I'm arguing that LTC is vulnerable to malicious attack due to the way LTC handles mining. The fact that bot netting is profitable is the whole point.

You don't get that Bitcoin has survived for most of its life as a huge target for botnets. Botnets made a lot of $$$ off of bitcoin. If BTC can live through and even thrive with the existance botnets, then so can LTC.

ASICs will come to LTC too one day, just like Bitcoin... maybe you don't realize that. GPUs will be less profitable to mine than other ALT chains at that time, so the botnets will move to the next coin on the list, being forever forgotten in the past in LTC world.

All of your points are moot... bitcoin suffers/suffered from the same problem. You think all the botnets are already gone off the BTC network? Think again... You can still make a lot of money mining it at a high hash rate with no power costs.

You Bitcoin trolls all have the same arguments, but you can't see the flaw in your thinking... it gives me a head ache. I'm done trying to explain it to you man, you'll probably never get it.
3400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A strategy to attack LTC and make money meanwhile on: April 07, 2013, 08:40:48 PM
again the "botnets are coming for you brah" talk...what the fuck, atleast be creative.
also, since the litecoin network hashrate is what it is, any attack that can 51% litecoin can easily be scaled up to 51% bitcoin as well. not to mention that 51% a cryptocoin with a market cap of ~63325172 usd  would surely have atleast some spillover effect into the trust-ability of bitcoin as well. Not so smart now, huh?

No, it cannot be scaled up to attack bitcoin nearly as well, because Asic hardware is making botnets unprofitable in bitcoin land. Asics are pushing them out of the market.

LOL... there is no way for a botnet to be "unprofitable"... they have free power bro.

Also, botnets are making plenty of money off of mining LTC as is. They don't want to kill LTC because that would end all future profits from it.. why can't you get this through your head?
