Didn't realize how tiny 16x16 and 32x32 would be. This doesn't leave any resolution for the background detail to show. This probably means different version for the small icons and web site headers.

very interested. this is a natural extension of cryptocurrencies - cryptosecureties, including cryptoshares and cryptobonds. p2p crosschain trading is another critical component to eliminate the need for central exchanges.

I'm invested in one and eagerly awaiting the other. Together they occupy 90% of my bitcointalk forum time to keep up with developments.

logo concept, needs cleanup, better contrast

FreeTrade has contracted to build the BitcoinQt ProtoShares network so the 18 BTC bounty is off the table.   Terms of the agreement are posted here for reference.

Proof of Work
1) Momentum Proof-of-Work based upon    https://github.com/InvictusInnovations/BitShares/blob/master/src/momentum.cpp
Modification to support very low end miners ->
1. Require between 256MB - 1GB memory
->To allow for use on very low end equiment

Will hyperthreading in the CPU be used?
346  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Momentum Proof-of-Work Bounty - 30 BTC on: October 21, 2013, 05:43:15 AM
So I think the fundamental idea is sound, I don't make arguments against it, and I don't see convincing ones here. We do differ in the details.

My current thoughts for my preferred implementation are as follows -

1. Require between 256MB - 1GB memory
->To allow for use on very low end equiment

2. Limit A and B such that all possible matches are exhausted in less than 1 second - H would need to change every second and could include new transactions.
->So that faster computers are not disproportionately advantaged over slower ones.

3. Change
Hash(H + A + B) < TargetDifficulty
to
Hash(H + A + B + MemoryHash(A) + MemoryHash(B)) < TargetDifficulty
->To prevent GPUs evaluating this step before adding B to memory.

I agree with this configuration. It encourages the use of low power, low cost, fanless boards for always on use which are also useful for personal clouds, self hosting, and community networks. I have had a hard time finding low cost ARM boards with more than .5 gb per core. The 4 gb configuration favors desktops and laptops which use a lot more power and are prone to cooling problems over time due to dust accumulation from always on use. Failed power supplies from overheating with dust clogged vents are by far the most common hardware failure I've seen in 12 years of servicing computers as a business.
347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation Board Election Details Announced on: September 24, 2013, 11:11:58 PM
The results were so close that I didn't see a significant mandate for the winner. Also, it turned out that joining was not allowed after the election was announced. It might be better to have ranked voting with instant run-off and a majority needed to win for the next election.

The green chalkboard above looks like one I saw in the TV series Fringe.

Your whitepaper describes a design for a ponzi.

Whether it 'works' or not is kind of beside the point.

I went after pirateat40 as well.
I went after another ponzi operator going by the name of starfish.
Much too late to make any difference.

It is too late to go after BFL and I have no way of knowing if that was an intentional scam.

Your scam is clearly intentional. You are a mathematician. You expect me to believe that you don't know what you are doing?

From what I have seen, following Bitshares from early on, your accusations regarding the integrity of the project and its founders is completely baseless and without merit. You have thoroughly discredited yourself. Too bad, as I thought your observations and proposal of another approach, though I have zero respect for most academic economics departments, could possibly lead to another decentralized p2p trading system. As it stands, though, I do not see your obvious personality defects leading to the successful implementation of a project.

I might add, the exchange of ideas between bybitcoin and Charles regarding math represents the best of what the Bitcoin community has to offer. It has given me even more confidence in the viability of Bitshares and shows the great quality of its founders.

Joerg? Do you pay taxes?

This is an incredibly offensive question to ask someone. I immediately and completely distrust anyone who asks it.

Seems like all the posts by people with very low post counts, even with a negative one thrown in to make it look convincing, points to spam marketing by buymastercoin.com, just like the original spam posts to blockchaininfo.

Good luck Joecoin, hope you win since you represent my views and are far more tactful than myself in expressing them.

@Gweedo: Yes, publicly funded libraries are obsolete and a waste of taxpayer money. They should be privatized.

I'll avoid responding to other comments since I'm likely to make another nasty comment if I get wrapped up in the heat of discussion with those who are unlikely to align with my views, and I lost interest in trying to persuade people a long time ago.

As I noted earlier, it is always possible to move to a new blockchain if Bitcoin is compromised.

That's what Quant is saying. P2P crosschain trading has the advantage of greatly reducing the fees, but sooner or later a trader is going to hit an extended losing streak (Gambler's Ruin) or a market collapse (Black Swan Event). I'm curious how Quant makes a living off of it, though, if it is a losing proposition.
354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Project Meshnet: Hardware for cjdns to enable new, censorship free Internet on: September 10, 2013, 10:42:45 PM
Software radios with fractal antennas can cover a wide band of frequencies. Just use frequencies not currently in use. By swarming, spread spectrum, and constantly changing frequencies they can avoid detection. Also, someone would have to be motivated to locate them. It they avoid competing with existing use, no one would have reason to try to track down a transmitter's location. Lower frequencies can travel much longer distances, but have less bandwidth.

Thanks Quant, you confirm my observations, though #2 needs some research, still studying to understand the different kinds of markets and instruments.

I consider "Questionauthority" and others like him to be in the same class of people as the Jews who collaborated with the Nazis

I concur that everyone who sent the coins prior to the deadline should receive Mastercoin since they performed according to the spec, and they have no control when the transactions are processed by the system. It is like deadlines of postmark vs. received. The postmark is an objective measure by a third party and under the control of the sender (fair) while a recipient can claim receipt whenever it suits them, and the sender has no control over what happens once the item is placed in the mail (not fair as a deadline).

Not every Ron Paul supporter is a Bitcoin enthusiast, but are very much in line with its goals. There are also a lot of Bitcoin users who are not Paul supporters, either as anarcho capitalists and agorists who avoid politics completely, or other ideologies which the mainstream would also consider on the fringe. My overall aim is to estimate the potential size of an alternative economy without any need to try to mainstream (and destroy) Bitcoin.

If all else fails, there are alt coins and the option of forking Bitcoin.

Will users have a way to create new asset types like Loom or Ripple? This could be a lot of fun as a derivatives market, seeing as even BitUSD and BitGold will be derivatives.
360  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation Board Election Details Announced on: September 07, 2013, 08:02:15 PM
Centralization, in and of itself, isn't a necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it could create a larger user base and instill trust in the system for the common man. Bitcoin would simply cease to be the Mecca currency for liberals and anarchists. For Bitcoin to reach truly great heights it can't be exclusively used by the annual Porcfest attendees. It makes perfect sense for businessmen to want as large a user base as possible. That will require at least some control by a central authority.

Given the results of the Ron Paul campaign, I estimate the freedom movement potentially consists of 5-10% of the US population. This is about 7.5 to 15 million adults in the US alone. This is way more than enough to form our own economy, build our own businesses within our community, and have our own decentralized money and banking systems. We do not need to dumb down and centralize Bitcoin to attract a larger audience out of the vast pool of mass media manipulated Borg drones of the corporate state who have been responsible for destroying the country for the last 100 years. It can grow organically into an ecosystem at a steady pace as it is with a quality user base. I would estimate another potential 20-40% of the population may follow as they see the initial users prosper. There is another 50% of the population for which there is probably no hope since they are dependent on maintaining the status quo at all costs.

I know I will lose complete interest in Bitcoin if it is 'Paypaled' into near uselessness.
