81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: Nxt Reimagined - Industrial Strength - Imagine Fairness! on: March 22, 2014, 04:12:35 PM
A bot has been found to be gaming the email interest mechanism.   On March 17, nearly 100,000 new interest emails where submitted.   Stakes therefore attained using the email only interest will be effectively terminated and parties that use only FaceBook and Twitter are to be honored.   We will examine the emails to determine which emails to honor.

I noticed a couple of pages of pledge spam with brand new Bitcoin Talk accounts as well at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=429399.240 . Wonder if they're running Scrapebox?

I keep getting the following error from ./run.sh -h , from github/skycoin/skycoin file secp256k1-g
https://i.imgur.com/fMHdTsH.jpg

Code:
apt-get install libgmp-dev

Thanks! I ended up on the Ethereum installation instructions doing a google search for "ubuntu libgmp" when it wouldn't install with "sudo apt-get install libgmp" and just installed all the dependencies listed there. Ethereum prefers Ubuntu 13.04 over 12.04, maybe Skycoin does as well. For some reason, Ubuntu gmp is under libgmp-dev instead of libgmp.

I want to migrate over to arch linux for Beaglebone and other SoC devices (R-Pi isn't quite strong enough for the entire stack of personal cloud/self hosting of Indiebox and the wish list at http://p2pconnects.us/2013/12/30/assembling-my-personal-cloud/), thought Ubuntu would be more complete for a quick and easy install - think I might as well have went with arch linux since that is the goal for a low powered, always on device with network access.

Is there any Skycoin test coin available and a test net? My client came up with a bunch of addresses but no transactions. I'm not sure what I would use as a receiving address. Any docs on how to use?

Development Update:

We are compiling binaries for the testnet. Will release binaries and instructions for running testnet from source. You will be able to get testnet coins by posting address in github thread.

Will these run on Windows, or can they run on linux vps?

Yes. We should have windows binaries.

Notes:
- If you want to run from source, linux is much easier than windows, because windows requires dealing with mingw configuration.
- When golang 1.3 comes out, we will be cross compiling the windows binaries from linux directly
- We are looking into using docker for deployment and testing
- 64-bit is highly recommended
- some people are getting errors because golang is not detecting changes to imported modules correctly. ./compile/clean-static-libs.sh fixes this problem by clearing out the cache

Nice analysis. I agree with you that traditional analysis seems about as useful as neckties. Markets are chaotic and fractal, so forecasters are wrong at least as often as they are right over the long term. Taleb, Mandelbrot, and Edgar Peters do a good job of explaining why this is case. Conventional analysis doesn't account for extreme events occurring much more frequently than predicted by normal distributions and the central limit theorem. They try to kludge it with ARIMA and GARCH models but these are still not at all accurate.

I do not agree about avoiding projects with anonymous origins. I look at the quality of the ideas and development work first, though having a good pedigree, like Ethereum, can help. I see anonymity on a good project as a strength by reducing potential for attack. Also, backing from highly regarded people is likely to lead to huge interest, resulting in a lot of dilution from the flood of investment, or even cancelling or delay of the pre-sale because of the high profile and legal concerns of the founders.

+1 A major limitation of Ripple is the asset naming. This would be a major improvement.
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Adam B Levine about NXT: "...best software out there.. .. future of bitcoin.." on: March 17, 2014, 06:48:50 PM
Yes, the pre-sale was ended abruptly without warning while someone was interested in buying and asking for clarification on the deadline to invest, from https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.480 :

Can we still join in between now and January 3? I haven't really seen any clear definition of a deadline.

I'm waiting for the answer. BCNext reads this thread.

Some changes in the plan:

1. Fundraising is over. That last 1 BTC, sent after the 2nd marking transaction, will be accepted but no more deposits should be made.
2. Nxt will be launched earlier than on the 3rd of January, right after the final test.
3. New Nxt users r supposed to be attracted by selling NXT and distributing via Nxt Faucet.
4. Messaging feature will be released later to avoid situation when somebody attempts to bloat the blockchain making it too huge for newcomers.

BTW we need one more bootstrapping server, coz 2 servers is not enough.
So, if I understand this correctly:

1) the main dev (BCNext) no longer posts directly to this thread but you purport to communicate with him and speak for him about the project, something we can't confirm,
2) the deadline for contributing BTC to acquire Nxt, which was originally described as being open until the genesis block was approved by the community sometimes at least a month from now, is now suddenly declared over with no advance warning; and
3) the BTC that were already sent to acquire Nxt, which the main dev (BCNext) promised earlier in this thread not to touch until the genesis block was generated, have now been moved.

About a week later, NXT was being sold at a 4762% markup at .000001 BTC/NXT over the original average pre-sale price of 0.000000021 BTC/NXT, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345336.0;topicseen .

I would have preferred premine and presale. This is simple and easiest to invest in, like Mastercoin, and raises money for development. Now it sounds like this coin will become a hobby. Nice idea, hope it succeeds, but I won't hold my breath.

Has anyone installed Skycoin on Windows? If so, how?

If Skycoin is not installed on a local machine, is there another way to get a Skycoin address, like a web wallet somewhere?
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MasterCoin: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: March 17, 2014, 12:02:07 AM
I just tried to install Skycoin, says to use MinGW shell in Windows. I'm quickly losing interest in it due to lack of documentation and an unanswered question in Skycoin thread. I service computers as my main business, so, like Herp, I can attest that most users have a very low tolerance threshold for having to tinker with things to get them to work.

The Protoshares client (now Bitshares-PTS) was a very good example on how a desktop client should easily download, install, and just work.
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SKY] Skycoin Launch Announcement on: March 16, 2014, 06:44:03 AM
Trying to install and run client on windows. I've installed mingw basic package on Windows in c:\minGW directory and downloaded and extracted the skycoin-master.zip file from github. Skycoin instructions sayto use universal instructions in mingw shell, but I can't find any instructions anywhere on how to launch mingw shell, no mingw entry under start/programs, and no program under c:\mingw like "mingw.exe" or "mingwshell.exe" - just a bunch of executables for specific tasks.

Are there any clearer instructions anywhere?

The snapshot of PTS ownership for receiving Bitshares was on 2/28, so there was a run-up in price during the week or so before. After this was over, on 3/1 there was a big sell off, and some drifting downward in price since. I just picked some more up yesterday to take advantage of the low price, since it will be used for more genesis blocks for Invictus created and other Decentralized Autonomous Corporations (DACs).

nice one. might pick up some then myself. Do you think there is also more downside in XCP? ( I only ask because I know you are watching the same next gen cryptos)

XCP seems to have support around .0065-.007 BTC. I still expect it to go up to .05 in the next few months, with a gui coming out and new assets being added to its DEX. I was expecting it to reach .05 earlier, a couple of weeks from now, but it's had a few bumps along the way with a bug and problems at the exchange it trades on, Poloniex.

PTS seems to have bottomed out around .009-.0095, starting to rise slightly. It seems like the nex gen sector is range trading at the moment, with a bump up here and there, like MSC now, and XCP a few days ago.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I'm dumping Nxt and here's why you should too on: March 06, 2014, 06:47:51 PM
Actually, 74 people were interested in NXT during the pre-sale, but the 74th was not allowed to invest and had the door slammed in his face while waiting to hear back from the founder for clarification on the deadline. About a week after the pre-sale was abruptly terminated with no advance warning and while someone was interested in participating, NXT was being sold at blablabla...

Too late is too late that's it.
Whatever if one guy wanted to buy at the last minute.
This happened to XCP (counterpartyprotocol), one sender was just-on-time and two others where too late and lost their Bitcoins.
One of the guy lost 1 full BTC and will never get it back, it has been burned (=lost).

The guy that wanted to buy Nxt at the last minutes did not lose any Bitcoin. Instead, he and all the haters had the opportunity to buy Nxt just after on the exchange for a price 8 to 80 times cheaper than now.

I know the problem here and it is not a problem about Nxt.

I am going to be hard but if this few lines wake you up and change the course of your life, it is worst listening...
A loser is a loser. No matter hard he try, a loser keeps failing and never face the reasons why he fails. It is always the fault of the others he says.
If you didn't invest in Nxt is it not about IPO or price or anything. Stop trying to find excuses. It is because you are acting like a loser.
Now get over it and live in the present moment. Stop crying and move on. Stop being a loser

I've moved on, but I will not allow the statement that everyone who wanted to invest in NXT was allowed to to go unchallenged. No problem with XCP, it had a clearly defined set of rules for the pre-sale and followed through with them. Same with Mastercoin. NXT was different in that it's pre-sale was arbitrarily handled by the founder with no set deadline or cap on investment, and abruptly terminated without advance notice while someone was interested in investing and asking when the deadline was. Claims that everyone who wanted to invest in NXT was allowed to are not true.

Just like NEM - make a thread, let people pay some coins (not too many), let it run for few weeks and the divide the NXTs between everyone who has take a part in an IPO.

Guess you weren't into NXT during the original thread release? Since that is exactly how it went.

NXT's investment timeframe was run for 6 weeks (lateSept - early Nov). Only 73 people were interested in it, which is why there was only 73 original stakeholders with amounts invested between .00000001-1 BTC. The rest of the posters called scam or didn't believe in it. BCNext called it off early at 21 BTC for who knows why... might have been the "21" type of feeling aka 21=21,000,000(total ever BTC created) type of look. Or maybe BCNext worrying about too many multiple buy-ins, or something else.

The only people that call it unfair now is those that missed out on it. Especially when the price was still 1BTC = 1M NXT during the first 1-2 weeks AFTER NXT was released.

You can have fun reading the original thread if you want: Smiley https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.0

I know, it's frustrating to watch crap like Dogecoin, Aurora, and Maza zoom into the top 10 when they really offer nothing new, but I'm confident our sector, the next gen coins, will grow a lot in the long run.

Still waiting for the slightest shred of proof.  If you don't have any proof you'll keep posting stupid "teaser" postings, probably in reply to this message too.  Attention whore much?

Hey, cocksucker! I'm typing it, you SOB. So chill!

From this post forward, please add to the conversation or either enjoy it, learn from it, or ignore it.

Exactly, you have zero proof.  You're just posting random junk mashed together.  /unsubscribed and I suggest everyone do that so as not to reward OP's trolling.

Your last warning! Post anything not related to this thread, and I will exercise, for the very first time, notifying/reporting your post to get it deleted. Seriously, I have never done such before, of which all the mods here can easily confirm.

You have made it quite clear that this thread serves no interest to you, thus go play somewhere else. This is a serious issue and I don't have time to play with you.

That said, you're free to ask me anything, or point out errors, of which I will kindly reply to them, in spite of your sentiment.

Why don't you just come out and present the opinion or information instead of making a stupid game out of it. This reminds me of the news on TV announcing an upcoming story and then delaying it until near the end of the news cast.

WTB 10,000 CGB for 5 BTC. Escrow OK or do trade in parts, seller of CGB goes first. Please PM if interested to fill order, in part or full, .5 BTC minimum order.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptogenic Bullion | The Gold Standard Virtual Precious Metal | CGB on: March 02, 2014, 08:28:13 PM
I think CGB has very strong fundamentals with the limited supply and deflationary aspects that encourage savings.

Leadership is essential to the success of any business, and that was clearly demonstrated yesterday.  Instead of panic, elambert took the high road, found a new developer, and restored confidence to the community.

Thank you my friend.

Additionally I would like to mention that I have been away at a friends wedding this weekend. I think I have shown that I am dedicated despite hardships and can be counted on to make sure the interests of the community are attended to. I will let my actions speak for me.

I would recommend replacing the image of a baby with something a lot more professional to promote the project. Also, you should consider removing the references to your personal life in your bio on the CGB website (i.e. being married and having a child) and avoid references to your personal life in the discussion (like going to weddings or being involved with family and not having time to work on CGB).

After my experience with Mastercoin and the personal life of the founder (very similar to this here) interfering with his work on the project at a very critical time in its development, this is a BIG, BIG red flag to my investing in it. I am very tempted by the low prices to take the plunge, but am sitting on the sidelines, mainly over this issue.

This coin introduces no new features. Its name and three letter identifier infringes on an already established project which is in alpha. It appears to be an attempt to leech off the interest in and success of an existing project, like what happened with Mastercoin. Please rename or remove this project.
