341  Economy / Reputation / Re: Get 201 merits in 2 months from a farm on: April 03, 2024, 04:30:53 PM
The number of merits distributed by merit source monthly continues to drop, if you check the DdmrDdmr merit dashboard which is a clear fact that most merit source don't even use much of their allocated Merits because of low quality post and issues like this.
If merit sources are unable to empty their monthly allocation due not enough quality posts, isn't that another argument for reducing the amount of merit that is generated each month?
Yes it may be reduced base on this reason and not the other. To be frank while others may need this reduction some actually deserves more  especially in the LB or maybe what they may need will be a new merit source but I doubt Theymos might consider this especially with issues relating to this going on.

Quote

Last time theymos did a big merit readjustment was ~July 2021 and since then number of posts dropped by 40-50% while amount of merit shared didn't drop that much, which then brings us to these kind of situations.
Oh to be frank I was not aware of this since I joined the forum  around September 2022 but became active 2023
342  Economy / Reputation / Re: Get 201 merits in 2 months from a farm on: April 03, 2024, 03:46:35 PM
In that case, the system should be modified to complicate such merit abuse as much as possible
The easiest way possible I can think of is to reduce the overall amount of merit that merit sources get each month.

I didn't think that I will ever say this, but maybe we reach the point where there's too much merit going around for this amount of quality posts, which then makes it very easy for shitposters like the one mentioned in OP to advance through ranks.
I don't really think this would actually help because  majority of these merits were not distributed by merit source and so it doesn't really solve the problem.

The number of merits distributed by merit source monthly continues to drop, if you check the DdmrDdmr merit dashboard which is a clear fact that most merit source don't even use much of their allocated Merits because of low quality post and issues like this.

While some of these Merit source may actually just store them others in the WO, just spend it on those who they know won't abuse there and it's quite annoying when I see post about criticism about how spent their sMerits where as most of the merit sources there are still actively distributing merit across each boards to quality posts.

344  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Is this the beginning of crude oil by-products price dropping? on: April 03, 2024, 03:00:46 PM
If the price of PMS and AGO starts to decrease, it is possible for default to occur as the price of goods and services may start decreasing. But other areas like increase in minimum wage and others also still need to be considered which can make me not to be accurately correct but I think that the price if goods and services may reduce.
Yes agree with you but the fact that the minimum wage will be actually known this month ending is something to be weary about since nothing goes for nothing in this country, the government are too manipulative, while also this may increase inflation rate.

Though the minimum wage is probably going to be between 100k to 150k which likely Labour may consider though it's far from what some were asking for but I guessed they will have to accept this, the price of goods haven't reduced even after the appreciation of our naira against dollar and the PMS and AGO price decrease and I don't really know if the marketers should be blamed with the government for this.

Ironically while the PMS and AGO have started to decrease, the cooking gas continues to raise and this is another call for alarm because there is no better alternative for it except one is opting to using fire wood or charcoal which is quite stressful to use and many living in the cities can't use it and can't even opt for electric cookers because of light bill and low power supply.

Yes we can, but we "don't modify a post such that it changes the meaning of the post."
Usually a mark is left after editing the post. This can be red or in a small font (Edit: reason..), but it's not mandatory. Moderators are not restricted in this regard.

About the post you showed as an example only Xal0lex, who made the edit, can answer though. I don't know what changes he made in the post.
If a moderator edits a post, a note like this can be used.
I believe the Moderator may likely send this as a pm to the user, after all when post merged is done, the Moderator send a pm to the user

Base on my research to be frank i don`t really like LN though I have not tried it since there have not been any opportunity for me to test it, though I hate it when fee go extremely and more frustrating when I can`t my tx to ViaBTC free transaction accelerator last year but still opt to pay some reasonable amount of sat for my transactions that will accepted by miners in later hours.

Actually I don`t see LN as the actual way to solve Bitcoin Scaling issues in the long run especially from the cons in it but I think it will continue to grow as bitcoin adoption rate increase  and significantly when there is an extremely high tx fee because outside this majority of bitcoiners do not really see the reason to use it.

349  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: More than 10 phishing wallets detected on the Snap Store, be careful on: April 02, 2024, 10:25:09 PM
Should we use our funds to test for fake or malicious wallet? The points you stated above may be right to some extent but to be frank, you have to make sure you are downloading these wallets apps from the right source, which everyone knows as their official web. Play store, can no longer be trusted so even if you are downloading from Google Play store or other official stores, you should make sure that the website redirects you there. Don't click unknown links to download so as to avoid downloading Trojans or malicious apps.
This way, you don't have to test the authenticity of the wallet with your funds or having to try a decoy just as you stated in your op.
As I said, if you are willing to lose an amount that is negligible for you, like US$3 - 5, after all, this is the best way to know if the application is malicious once and for all, unless be more complex malware waiting for you to raise a considerable sum to run the scan. GPG signature, source on github and official website checks are essential forms of verification, in addition to a brief search on Google, forums and other communities for the wallet name.

To be frank Hackers are creative and decoy wallet seems good but don't forget when you using a decoy wallet, you have to keep it secure as if its your main wallet because if it's pretty easy for them to get this wallet, they will have a feeling that it's just decoy wallet and start chasing the main wallet while you already spoken of the chance of were this malicious attack may not occur early or wait till some certain amount of funds is in the wallets before the attack launched I believe this is mainly be for closed source wallets because others may likely be able to identify such malicious attacks on open source wallets early.

This guide:Protect yourself from fake wallet software (guide) is actually the best way to avoid all these though it's just for desktop wallets but it as always been said not to store your coins on your mobile wallet and also it is recommended to use open source wallet always.
In fact if there are any open source software which can be used as an alternative to any software you're using then go for it instead and this is among the main reasons Linux is more secured than Windows

What I don't understand is why invest so much and still yet no results to count for it? I mean it's really annoying because I know about Manchester city transition when they came out with a new owner, I mean the fellow invested a lot of money in that club and now it's paying off and in the case of Manchester city I think it all clicked right away from the onset, I don't know maybe because of the coaches that were lead to manage the club.
Most times, new management do have effect on team’s performance be it positive or negative; the Manchester City new management came with positive impact and add more value to the team towards buying quality players that will be beneficial to the team. When Pep came to the club, their style of play and the team’s profile rise above expectations to the extent that they are now the best team in the world.

On Chelsea’s issue, the new management tried to make decisions by themselves without consulting the coach the employed, and they sack coaches that might reshape the team to a standard team: but the owners try using money to get expensive players from different teams just to make their team better, but unfortunately, it is becoming worse since they are yet to deliver the result of a team that have so many money spent on.

I think changing another coach will be better for Chelsea because Pochettihnho has failed.
To be frank this is what is actually expected to a team who spent much on signing players and staff while Todd was busy going for lower club staffs, Man city went for a manager among the top including staffs.

Though Chelsea has spent alot of money on players with talents while some have failed to do well, I don't really blame Todd for sacking Tuchel for he did make some bad decisions of selling Tomori and then signing a koulibaly for £33 million who was having just a year left in his contract with Napoli and to me that was a bad bargain, also I never why he opt for Lukaku and then they started having issues in end.

While the biggest issue is Todd who took the acting role of sporting director did the worst with his bad bargain in these players and if only he spent such amounts on getting a better staff and coach it would be better.

Chelsea current form is a living proof of how quality back room staff and coaches are important and Poch has already failed and to be frank i currently don't know the right coach for Chelsea now but Poch should be sack there are better options I will think of later

352  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: April 01, 2024, 09:57:09 PM
However, my prediction is that if Arsenal is able to win head to head against Bayern Munich in the UCL league then Arsenal's mentality will improve, but if they lose, the percentage of Arsenal without a trophy will be higher this season. On the other hand, Liverpool vs Man United will determine where Liverpool will go in the race for the EPL League title this season. Man City seems to be more relaxed about retaining the championship title, if they could become champions of course they would be happy but even if not, that's okay, just think of Pep Guardiola as giving a farewell gift to the toughest rival in his coaching career.
The chances of Arsenal winning is lower than the chances of them winning Epl and we saw how they fair against FC Porto in the round of 16 but let's how they fair against Bayern Munich who are having their worst season in over a decade in their domestic league.
While Liverpool as  a difficult game against Manchester united this weekend I think they might actually win though Manchester united was actually the better team in their last meeting beating them 4 goals to 3 but also don't forget Arsenal still has a game against Manchester united. Let's see how these 2 team fighting for the EPL title fair against the red devils who is currently doing better now
353  Other / Off-topic / Re: No interest in gambling if there is no profit or fun to be accountable. on: April 01, 2024, 06:14:46 PM
To me if profits and funs are not featured in gambling then I don't find any Interest in it
To be sincere if I ever find a game that I don't enjoy but keep winning I wouldn't stop gambling there. I will constantly use such platforms and keep making money even if I don't enjoy the game. This is because gambling is all about first the money and the next one is the fun. For me to enjoy gambling I will simply use part of my wins to gamble in games which I enjoy playing.
I bet you will still later find fun in it even if you don't like the platform at first but as long as you continue to use it, what attract you to use the platform/gamble on that will bring the fun. I can also sooner or later it will become your favorite and that which you enjoying gambling on will be less attracting to you

Bro it's very common among we humans, we mostly do things with interest, when their is nothing to be interested in again in gambling I don't really think it's necessary to continue,  I know that most gamblers always lie to people that they are gambling for fun, which is not true, it's only like 5% of gamblers that gambles for fun,  the remaining 95% of gamblers gambles for the benefits attached to it if it goes their  way, almost all the gamblers I know are gambling with the hope of hitting a jackpot one day, very few are for fun purpose, so if that dream is being removed from the equation, I really don't think anyone would gambles again, so i think that we as humans always goes for things that interest us, if their is no interest, their is no point gambling.
Most gamblers who gamble only because of fun are those who are rich. The majority people who are struggling to make ends meet gamble because they expect to make money from it and I don't think it is wrong to have such a perception. However, it becomes a problem when gamblers depend on gambling as a source of income. Gambling should be seen as a game of chance which means we cannot predict when we might win.
Gambling for fun for the rich doesn't mean that you are not hoping to hit the jackpot some day like we see with Drake who gambled with a million dollar already knows if he lost the money it won't weigh him down while if he wins it definitely gone be big.
Also it depends on what we consider as fun while some will be ready to throw all they have in a game in order to hit the jackpot and we know how it mostly ends regrets. In the end it's just what we consider has fun and not trying to push our luck
354  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: April 01, 2024, 05:41:00 PM

Yes Arsenal was more of defensive because they can't play an attacking football with Manchester City because that would have cost them the game since City has more possession of the ball, one important thing i noticed about Arsenal in the game is that they allowed City to have more control of the ball but they kept them away from their post because City did not have the opportunity to shoot shots like they used to do when they play against other teams. The game wasn't that boring just that most people expected to see goals in the match but when they were not seeing goal attempts they became angry watching the game.

They knew their priorities and they must have realized that they wouldn't be able to do much if Manchester City were already very superior to their midfield so inevitably they had to do a defensive scheme so that the conditions didn't cost them and it worked.
Even if 3 points cannot be secured in this match but at least one point is very good when facing Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.

Conversely, this actually makes Manchester City get a loss because after all, with their conditions that should allow them to be at the top comfortably, it must be disturbed by 2 results against Arsenal and Liverpool but even so at this time the chance is still there but depending on the performance of Manchester City as well whether they can or not and of course the performance of 2 other clubs, Arsenal and Liverpool, which must be glimpsed because the change of position depends on the final results for the rest of the season.

I guessed we can say Arteta really went for the best strategy, the match wasn't any kind of match they could risk losing and they know if City was given space at the defense it will really not tell we'll since both team were looking for a win or at least a draw while the draw is what Liverpool really wanted.

Let's see how the remaining games goes though Arsenal has more tougher fixtures remaining than City  and Liverpool with fixtures including Chelsea and Man United though Liverpool still have Man united while the 3 has Spurs in their coming fixtures
355  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin mining, waiting be the way forward? on: April 01, 2024, 08:10:20 AM
To be frank bitcoin miners will increase after this halving, just like previous halving and while miners in the US or some other countries might be tempted to move to this countries with low cost electricity another thing they will have to look unto is the fact that in the US it seems like they are paying 30% of electricity they use  for mining as tax while some of these countries are task free.

African countries are also among the countries increasing with miners, Morocco was among the top mining countries by ChainAnalysis last year while also Ethiopia is turning to a mining hub

According to data from Bitcoin mining services company Luxor Technologies, in 2023, Ethiopia ranked fourth behind the USA, Hong Kong, and Asia as one of the top destinations for Bitcoin mining rigs. Russian bitcoin mining company Bitcluster has already built the first 120 MW bitcoin mining facility, and companies such as Hashlabs Mining have started building bitcoin mines in Ethiopia for their global clients.

but we don't how the government may react on this in the long run while this will boost the economy of Ethiopia or any other African countries that may be implement this if they have  low energy consumption. While country like ours(Nigeria) though we have few miners but our low power supply and even the electricity fee has been a discouraging factor

358  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: March 31, 2024, 10:31:08 PM
Biggest flex today was Liverpool winning, taking all 3 points and going on top of the table while City and Arsenal both lost 2 potential points. With only 9 matches left to be played, it means that every single game from now to the end of the season is crucial and a MUST WIN for all teams involved. This has to be one of the best title race in recent years with 3 teams fighting for it compared to the usual Liverpool vs City title rivalry we have had in recent years.
Literally its been long the EPL was this competitive, how I miss those moments but Thank God we have it this season. Man City vs Arsenal game ended in the least I expected,  I thought would have won the game  since the title race was fierce but more now. LIverpool benefited from this draw more. I guess I can say outside the injury crisis matches has really been going well for their favour.

I was very skeptical about yesterday game between Manchester united and brenthford, brenthford are very good having a hot matches when it comes to big teams,

When I saw the first half o ..o draw I knew is never going to end well oh no Manchester united disappointed me not even when they could not hold the goal they scored at the extra time where brenthford had to equalized just after three minutes, thou it didn't hurts me that much because I already knew that is not going to an easy ride for Manchester united.

When I saw the 2.02 odd given to Manchester United, I had some doubts but I still went ahead and included it my bet. Sometimes, I ask myself if bookies do have foreknowledge about some games, because the big odd given to United could be to deceive bettors. Imagine after Mount had scored in the 96th mins, you'd think the game has ended, only for Brentford to pull one back two minutes later to make sure the match ends in a stalemate.
This is among the amazing/unexpected moment in football that makes it more fun though I did not follow up the match but everything about this game was shocking especially from the fact that Mount got his first ever EPL  of the season yesterday and the game still ending in a tie even when yhis goal came by 96mins of the game but base on stat Brentford were pretty wasteful though I`m curious of what will be the turn of event for Mason Mount  in their next game against childhood club definitely he will be booed by fans

I'm not sure what's annoying about a civil discussion on a forum - if I understand well, the primary aim of the thread is to check person profiles and provide your opinion without giving merit?
