Hi everyone. I have a question regarding NAV Coin. I read the whitepapers of both NAV Coin and DASH, but I don't seem to figure out what is the difference between both. They are both doin anonymous transactions based on mixing. At least that is my interpretation of it. Did I miss out on something important ? If so, could someone please explain this to me ? And if there is a difference, then it might be a good idea to put it on the website and even to publish this comparison on crypto site and make a youtube video about it so people are aware of it.

NAV is TRUE and 100% anonymity,  DASH not  Smiley

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I heard about this. But I want to know why. Why is NAV 100 % anonymous and DASH not ? I am not asking this question to be anti-NAV. If NAV reaches the level of DASH I will jump through my roof out of pure joy because I bought some decent amount of NAV last week. But I am not able to understand why NAV is more anonymous than DASH so if someone could explain this to me, I would be extremely thankful :-)

Jugelio got it right.

The main point of difference is that our system uses 2 block chains, which permanently disconnects the transactions and makes it impossible to prove beyond reasonable doubt that User A sent coins to User B. As far as I understand, Dash uses a single block chain and essentially just mixes the coins through their system prior to you sending them which given enough time and effort can be untangled or relies on insecure architecture such as SQL databases. We also encrypt the destination address from inside your wallet and then re-encrypt it before sending it to the outgoing server via the sub-chain to further break the connection between sender and receiver. Your intended destination is never broadcast from your computer, not even via HTTPS, only ever as an encrypted argument attached to your transaction to our sever on the block chain.

Also, have you actually tried to use Dash for anonymous sending? From my testing their coin mixing protocol doesn't even work. I had my wallet open for 3 weeks trying to successfully mix just 14 DASH into "DRK" or whatever they call it and it failed every time.

Our system doesn't require any pre-mxing of coins. You just tick the "Send NAV Anonymously" box and it sends your regular NAV through our Anonymous Transaction Network instantly. Transactions are received within 5 minutes of sending. Transactions are broadcast from incoming to outgoing servers via a separate block chain (nav sub chain) and not managed by something exploitable and centralised like MySQL.

I am working towards finishing the new Anonymous Transaction Network scripts over this weekend which will enable us to bring the system back online and closer to being able to decentralise the system. More to be revealed in my weekly update on Monday once I have more info for the progress report.

The team, can you give an approximate date for the introduction of decentralization?

We look forward to 20k-30k sat

Thank you for your good work  Smiley

Hi plastcom, it's hard to say. I try to update on particular phases of the project and overall percentages rather than delivery dates. This work is quite experimental and can take longer than expected to figure out.

Right now I am close to finishing the new version of the receiving and sending server scripts.

After that, I need to finish off the wallet integration of the new system including the removal of the reliance on the API server list and ability for the user to set their prefs.

Then we need to thoroughly test and setup counter measures to prevent a malicious person setting up a compromised server set which steals peoples coins in transit.

A lot of the work is already in the rear view mirror and I believe we can have the system operational in the near future Smiley

how many total coins will be available? and inflation?

There are currently ~60 Million NAV created. The inflation was 20% for the first year, 10% for the second year and a flat 5% per every year after. This means there is no maximum amount of coins like with Bitcoin. We created Nav Coin in July 2014 so we are in our 3rd year now, the inflation rate is at 5%.

Keep in mind, the 5% figure is the maximum amount, not everyone stakes their coins and the network only creates mining rewards in proportion to each users stake not against the total number of coins in existence. Historically the year on year increase in total coins has been a lot less than the maximum. In fact, we have only staked 20% new coins since July 2014.

Hello, I'm having an issue with receiving a deposit from Poloniex. It has been confirmed on Poloniex's end but when I look at the block chain explorer, it is showing my deposit as:

"Not yet redeemed"

I am running wallet 3.6.0. I have also been getting an unusually large amount of stakes that I haven't been getting until recently that are also not showing up on the explorer.

http://imgur.com/H1xMOPI

I feel like i need this stapled to my forehead. Perhaps i should make it my forum signature lol.

All jokes aside, please follow these instructions to load the latest block chain. You will see your coins arrive when you take these steps and resync your wallet

Jus ta repost to all that have problems with changing amounts or whatever. This will make you a clean wallet to stake and that is on the correct chain:

1. Delete all files instead wallet.dat and navcoin.conf from the working directory.
2. Load the latest Blockchain data (I just made an update) from www.navcoin.conf/files/Nav-Blockchain.zip
3. Unpack this zip into your working directory
4. Update the navcoin.conf :

Use this:

rpcuser=username
rpcpassword=password
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=44444
port=44440
listen=1
daemon=1
server=1
txindex=1
staking=0
maxorphanblocks = 10000

5. get addnodes from here: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/nav/#!network  (klick on "node list" from 3.6 wallet)  add this list to you navcoin.conf.
6. You have already the Wallet 3.6 ? Otherwise Download from our website please. Please do not use 3.5 anymore.
7. Start the Navcoin-qt.exe
8. make a "checkwallet" on the debug window
9. close Navcoin Wallet again
10. open CMD and go to the Navcoin wallet folder where your exe is in.
11. start your wallet with: navcoin-qt.exe -rescan

Hey Nav Coiners!

It's time for this weeks update from the dev team.

I've been busy continuing with my work porting the Anonymous Transaction Network to NodeJS. I've made good progress this week and am looking to get this new source running on our test network over the next few days. We will have a better idea of the launch date of the new software once I have run the first round of security and performance tests.

Strugg has been working with a graphic designer to customize the Nav Coin Mobile wallet layout to be in line with the Nav Coin branding. So far its looking good and we hope to have this update to the wallet pushed out soon.

Shahim has been helping me with the Anonymous Transaction Network testing and setup as well as working towards finishing the Web Wallet.

Soopy is has been busy adding the finishing touches to the Thin Client for Desktop. More information from him on that shortly.

Mark and Sophia have had a productive planning session over the weekend to formalize the marketing strategy moving forward. Mark has also completed his first article for the team which you can view here: Nav Coin Attains Dedicated TorŪ Nodes

We will be pushing this out to some News sites in the coming days.

All systems are go and we are steadily moving forward. Exciting times for Nav Coin as we start to wrap up our next few projects and head towards the ultimate goal of decentralising the Anonymous Transaction Network!

Talk soon,
Craig.

Nav Coin TOR Network

Dear NAV Community

We are pleased to announce that user BitcoinFX has been so kind as to setup some dedicated TOR nodes for Nav Coin.

If you're unsure what TOR is, please head over to their website to learn all about their great service: https://www.torproject.org/about/overview.html.en

In basic terms, the TOR network is robust method of hiding your IP address from unwanted third parties.

Currently Nav Coin is secure, but just like any other Crypto Currencies because it is a public network, it is possible for third parties to see which IP addresses are connected at any given time. This does mean users lose an amount of anonymity because with some effort, it could be possible to trace a transaction back to an IP address and potentially infer who owns a wallet, or at least where they were broadcasting from.

Connecting your Nav Coin wallet through the TOR network, hides your IP address from the public record and stops this meta data inference from occuring. With this configuration you would be syncing the block chain, sending and receiving coins all through the TOR network rather than over the regular internet.

If you want to give it a try, first thing to do is to download and install TOR Browser

Once installed, open the TOR browser and allow it to connect to the TOR network.

Go to you Nav Coin config file which is located in %AppData%/navcoin2/navcoin.conf and add the following settings:

Code:
listen=0
port=8443
proxy=127.0.0.1:9150
onion=127.0.0.1:9150
onlynet=tor
maxconnections=8
addnode=navfxoktwa7zu3m2.onion:8443
addnode=navfx2yawr6eb4fp.onion:8443
addnode=navfxfkchwclvpbj.onion:8443
addnode=navfxujp7ninsup6.onion:8443
addnode=navcavlevqgjzozx.onion:8443
addnode=navcaqr6y4yfvei4.onion:8443
addnode=navcavq6roeray7h.onion:8443
addnode=navcajegwg62zecy.onion:8443
addnode=navfxkdrgk2oo3ja.onion:8443
addnode=navfxu6w2iptaj3m.onion:8443
addnode=navfxjtmt42smvcj.onion:8443
addnode=navfxosoed7hd4db.onion:8443

Save the navcoin.conf file and restart or open your Nav Coin wallet. You should now see in the bottom right corner of the status bar it now says TOR, indicating you're connected to the TOR network!

You can now continue to use the wallet as per normal with the knowledge that your IP address is hidden from public view. Simple as that!

Some extra notes from BitcoinFX:

It is advisable to add regular IP addnodes at the base of this .conf for 'failover', which will enable your client to also exit connections via Tor.

hidden_service connections (.onion) never leave the Tor network.

Remember that less connections are preferable over more connections, in terms of anonymity and privacy. 6 to 8 connections are probably optimal for broadcasting transactions.

Port 8443 has been selected as it is a common Tor Exit port - see: https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/ReducedExitPolicy - whereas the 'default' Navcoin port 44440 is not.

This really is a great service the BitcoinFX has setup for us all to use. It provides an extremely high level of anonymity even when just performing regular Nav Coin transactions.

Please be so kind as to donate to BitcoinFX to help keep this service running: NWeyG7jpQm1wWeYeV7tnNuYLUHmW4FMAr8

It's users like BitcoinFX who make these communities great.

Warmest regards,
The Nav Team

is a Navcoin ChromeOS wallet possible? KryptoKit has a bitcoin wallet google chrome Extension, maybe you can modify there code slightly.

Hi Nav Coiners,

Weekly update time from me. Now that the commotion of the mobile wallet launch has settled down a bit I've been able to spend some time back on the decentralisation project. I've had some good break throughs this week which i think will help speed up the process and get the work finished sooner than I expected. I still can't give an accurate ETA on the completion of decentralisation, but rest assured it is my top priority right now.

The stage of the anon decentralisation I've been working towards finishing recently is porting the server side scripts to NodeJS. Having them run on NodeJS allows the servers to be run with relative ease by someone who wants to configure their own anon server pair. There's no need to configure apache, php, mysql or any of those things. It should be able to be installed with a simple npm command when I'm finished.

I've got the RSA Key generation, encryption and decryption all working with the new setup and am just integrating it with a test version of the wallet and running some tests with it now.

You can see my progress with the anon-test branch of the navcoin2 wallet here: https://github.com/navcoindev/navcoin2/commits/anon-test

You won't be able to see the NodeJS stuff, because it is kept in a private repository until we are ready to release it as the decentralised system.

I had previously written a chunk of the incoming server scripts, so finishing that will be my next priority after this testing is complete. Then I will port that work over to the outgoing script and make the necessary modifications.

All said and done, I am hoping to finish the new scripts this week and get them into testing next week. Once we're happy that the scripts are working as intended with no exposed attack vectors or bugs we will re-launch the Anonymous Transaction Network using these NodeJS Scripts!

This is one of the important steps towards decentralisation and will mark a major milestone for the project. I've bumped the completion percentage up to 65% which means we're over 2/3 of the way there people!

As for the rest of the team;

Soopy has been working hard on the thin client for desktop, he informs me that he is already about 75% of the way finished! I have moved this project into the in progress category on the projects page: http://navcoin.org/projects

Shahim is working on getting the web wallet and the raspberry pi working with our new code base. We will have more details to fill you in on those in this week I hope.

Sophia, Mark and Strugg are all working hard on our marketing strategy. The new Marketing team has their first official meeting tomorrow night from which we will kick start a raft of content creation for Nav Coin.

Busy as always. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates and articles out soon!

Talk soon,
Craig.

To those complaining about the price:

A few months ago NAV had fallen to 600. It spent the second half of 2015 mostly below 1000 and indeed most of 2016 as well.
Right now price is very high by historical standards (not ATH obviously).

Just accept the fact that NAV price is volatile. Old investors like myself already know that.

If you bought at 3000+, you'll get your investment back, even if it takes a while.

I'm waiting for price 1500- to start buying again. I've seen enough price movement over the years to believe it will get there again. But it will also go back to around 5000 at some point when more features arrive.

Meanwhile, staking works well.

NAV is the best crypto investment I have made. I went almost all in 2 years ago, have already made a lot of profit and we are not even done yet.
But it requires patience and self control.

I have said this earlier in the thread and on our slack channel #trading; from a Trade Analysis perspective, I think we might end up going down to around 2400 SAT which is the 0.236 Fibonacci retracement level which also mirrors the dip on the first spike upwards.

Then, off the back of our next feature release we will resume another leg up which will likely reach the 1.618 Fibonacci extension level of around 7800 SAT.

Still lots of room to make profit, even if you bought at 4000, just have a little patience while we organise our next round of releases.

If I've learned anything from trading crypto its that profits are made over weeks or months by choosing good entry points based on fundamentals and solid Trade Analysis. If you try to get rich overnight you will lose a lot of money. The markets are so volatile its almost impossible to get the short term trends right unless you spend 24/7 glued to the charts and have some kind of trading degree. I know from personal experience and have lost a lot of bitcoin attempting to day trade.

No, he's right, the Nav is dead.

Shahim, you know this better than anyone else.
Thou hast turned off its blockchain.

I do not blame you Shahim, that is clear.
After all it was a fact that had been previously announced.
We knew that for Nav 1.0 soon his time would come.

So let my express my personal condolence at DevTeam &
