What is the externality?  100% is the most you *should* be earning, so who's pocket are you taking the rest out of?

None of the above, but I'm always on the look out for decent books. Is Neuromancer worth reading?

And what does this have to do with speculation?
I think Neil Stephenson is much better than Gibson.  Snow Crash kicks ass.

It does when he is an avid preacher of how silky smooth and hot young Pattayan boys are and how you should tip them after screwing them.

"Sex trade" does not mean "adult entertainment industry". It means "prostitution".

This.

LOL, illuminati.  Conspiracy nuts GTFO.
346  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy will go into effect February 22, 2012. on: February 15, 2012, 09:39:08 PM
"Unless Mt. Gox gives it express prior consent, other websites may only link to the Platform by using the following address: https://mtgox.com/, to the exclusion of any deep link."

That's a weird rule.  It's under Intellectual Property and Linking on https: //mtgox.com/terms_of_service (space added so it is not a link Tongue)
347  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitscalper passwords have been leaked on: February 15, 2012, 09:34:46 PM
But wait, you're saying that there's a javascript performing the hash on the client? That's pretty much the equivalent of storing them as clear text.

This is how most modern websites work.  You have to hash your password somewhere, so you do it locally in your browser on your machine before transmitting it.  Take a deep breath, guys.

If plaintext passwords were stolen, either the attacker modified the code of the website to prevent pre-transmisssion hashing, or passwords were not salted before they were hashed, so the attackers just brute forced a rainbow table.

Mt. Gox got a National Security Letter. They can't tell anyone but they can hint at it. I'll let you figure out what it means.
Wandering Albatross is talking out of his ass and smearing FUD on the walls again. Do you have any supporting evidence whatsoever? Why you gotta be so paranoid, bro?

any idea about this? are there any changes in their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy?
Previously MtGox did not have a posted Terms of Service (and I don't think Privacy Policy either). They are informing their customers what the terms will be before they go into effect.  This is a reputable business practice.

Money transfer laws are very strict.  Bitcoins are not clearly defined as money yet, but the dollars that are exchanged for them are.  Therefore, to be a longstanding, stable pillar of the Bitcoin world, MtGox is being smart and complying with international banking regulations.

349  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Failure is likely on: February 15, 2012, 09:25:45 PM
See that other thread, Mastercard is forcing their customers to stop using BTC.  If Mastercard thought BTC was going to fail they wouldn't care about BTC.
INACCURATE
There is a mention of fraud concerns by "Mastercard and other banking affiliates" in the press release of why Paxum isn't dealing with BTC companies anymore.  Try not to be so alarmist and misleading.
350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bruce Wagner speaks about TradeHill on: February 15, 2012, 08:37:52 AM
And in that regard, I have faith in him to promote Bitcoin with all of our best interest in mind.
Someone who has been convicted of fraud and evangelizes the sex trade is not a good spokesperson for Bitcoin.  That is what he wants to be, and even if he is a complete angel now, he will hurt the brand.

He should be ostracized.

Distaste for watching videos isn't the problem, it's distaste for the truth for people.
Lol, irony.
354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bruce Wagner speaks about TradeHill on: February 14, 2012, 07:49:55 PM
Anything associated with Bruce Wagner I will avoid if possible.

Advertising on his show is a horrible branding move. "Endorsed by a convicted fraudster, so you know it's good!"

What a pompous schmuck.
355  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Intersango Exchange on: February 14, 2012, 07:23:20 PM
(Also: why not add live arbitrage calculation between your supported currencies? How's that for a USP?)

Or maintain a single order book across all currencies. You could do back end currency hedging to effectively denominate all of the trades in the currency of your choice. That would be very cool.

Plus you could add BTC trading with any Forex currency.
356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Numbers for a BTC gold standard on: February 14, 2012, 07:20:20 PM
Numbers for a cans of soda in my fridge BTC standard

I have 8 12 oz sodas in my fridge. (96 oz total)
There will be 2100000 BTC eventually
Each ounce of soda is worth 175K BTC!
Thats more than $0.5MM each!

My math made as much sense as yours did.  Want to buy a can of my soda for a steal at 10BTC?  Free shipping!

358  Economy / Economics / Re: 10 Things That Every American Should Know About The Federal Reserve on: February 13, 2012, 10:15:44 PM
It's a harsh reality to discover that pretty much everything you thought you knew turns out to be make believe.

The Chairman of the Fed, as well as every member of the board, is appointed by the President of the US.  I think you need to take your own advice here ^
Quote
As stipulated by the Banking Act of 1935, the President appoints the seven members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; they must then be confirmed by the Senate and serve for 4 years. Once appointed, Governors may not be removed from office for their policy views. The chairman and vice-chairman are chosen by the President from among the sitting Governors for four-year terms; these appointments are also subject to Senate confirmation.[1] By law, the chairman reports twice a year to Congress on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy objectives. He or she also testifies before Congress on numerous other issues and meets periodically with the Secretary of the Treasury.

The Fed sucks for a lot of reasons, but you haven't identified them.  Start with Quantitative Easing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTUY16CkS-k

This thread is full of derp.  No wonder Phinneas has 3k+ posts.

On a more serious note, have you ever tried triple sec straight up?  It is sickeningly sweet.  I don't think its going to catch on, man...
