Hey arklan; we all set for shipping tomorrow?
342  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: September 02, 2013, 06:36:22 PM
I vote for refund. I think, guys who want to wait for shipment would be better off taking refund and buying Avalon chips at a discount, better chances at ROI that way.

If there were Avalon chips available for a discount I'd be all for it.  I just haven't seen that option aside from one or two offers from group buyers.  That's why I said earlier that it would be nice to see what compensation options Yifu mentioned might be available.

Yifu mentioned only one option. That was a refund now, with the possibility of re-purchasing at a discount later. All other options were suggested by others, and rejected by Yifu.

While I have no problems issue refunds, compensating for delay and such, I got no patience for people complaining when their orders are not late. Not too surprisingly, the people complaining the loudest are people whose order are not late yet(so more people refund and they can get their chips earlier maybe?), and people who have no orders(standard trolls of bitcointalk).

Most people who have chip orders are much more understanding to the situation, whom are either taking refunds, or working out some sort of compensation model.

Emphasis mine.

Do a bit of research before accusing others of trolling.   Track the actual shipment.   The chips WERE in china and they were sent to a freight forwarder in Hong Kong.   Get the information available first, then your stories might have some credibility.    Until you go back in the threads and read where the chips are made, where Zhang and Yifu assemble the boards, WHY avalon sends product OUT of china through hong kong and WHAT WAS POSTED in chinese along with supporting pictures, and finally where those chips ended up, you are just spreading more BS.

I didn't accuse anyone of trolling, nor did I claim anything I said was a credible or actual story.  Is English your second language?  I'm not SPREADING anything.  I'm just saying don't make up stories to fit the evidence if you don't know the whole story.  Do I have to fucking mime it?

Actually, quite a bit is known about where the groupbuyers stand in line....

Spreadsheet derived from BTC movement to Avalon
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiLYkKIHJaIsdHpIaGdUOWRYVUdncTNpNlVKbVhCbEE#gid=0

I guess the one payment address is the only one available, considering everyone knows payment is public, and no one would ever want to protect their privacy.  Right?  I mean, Right?  There's no possible way other deals were being made in private with different addresses.  No way.  Right?  Right?!

Come on, quit having me come up with scenarios where your theories are wrong; there are a ton of them.  Until we have proof one way or the other, this is a silly game and I don't want to play anymore.
346  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: September 02, 2013, 03:15:39 PM
you can buy overpriced chips "in stock" at chinese market, chips pre-funded by bitcointalk community.
we have no chips, meanwhile chinese resellers have chips in stock with production date corelating with our orders.
troll harder

Yea, because it's impossible that those chips were ordered by a Chinese reseller whose interested in bitcoin and got there before the group buys did.  Right?  There's no way that could possibly happen, right?
Ben, If they were ordered by a chinese reseller, he WOULD NOT have shipped them out of the country (track the chips) just to REIMPORT back into china.   It is hard to get stuff out of china but harder and more expensive to get stuff in.   I think your theory is weak.

First, wasn't the import from TSMC in Taiwan?  So wouldn't they have to import them to China anyway?

Second, not all chip purchases were represented in that photo.

Third, not all chip purchases were part of the public domain.

Fourth, I'm throwing out possible scenarios to point out that when all information is not known, jumping to conclusions can have disastrous consequences.  My main thesis is to act on the information available, and not to speculate and come up with conspiracy theories.

Hey wrenchmonkey; I agree that some of the investment may be emotional, but it could be hobbyist as well, and there's value in that too.

Bitsyncom mentioned some other kinds of compensation.  It may be nice to hear what's on the table.

I would say that all this talk about PS4 game pre-orders etc. is what Yifu considers noise.

I don't really care what the Prima Donna considers noise.  A civil discussion is taking place, sure it's OT to this thread but this thread is way past being anywhere near on topic or relevant to the OP anyways.  If he, you or anyone else can't handle a civil conversation, feel free to ignore it, its not that difficult.

I prefer to stay on topic and create a new topic to discuss game pre-orders.

Otherwise we might just create 1 BIG topic for everything!

This is a discussion on the fact that Yifu's model is not normal.  Pre-orders aren't generally used to fund development.  How is this OT?  It's a comparison of Yifu's business model, and Yifu's business is the topic of this thread.
349  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 31, 2013, 11:20:02 AM
I often pre-order games from developers online. In BFL's case they are the retailer.

My point was that in the mature video game market, the one producing the product doesn't sell it to the retailer until they can ship it.  The retailer is the one who collects and holds your money.
350  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Incoming Avalon News 8/9/2013 on: August 31, 2013, 10:29:29 AM
Nah, there is gaping flaws. eg. BFL were not a startup, they were selling FPGA hardware well before ASIC, secondly pre-orders are common, just look at the PS4 for example, or many game titles.

Yea BFL is shit.  But PS4 and most game titles don't use pre-orders to fund their development.  In fact, I was under the impression that the pre-orders are generally run by the retailers, and not the manufacturer/developer at all.

If I read steamboats post right, refunds for parts will not be offered -- but will attempt to be resold?  Why wouldn't the parts be shipped to whoever purchased them if there is no refund?  Customer pays for parts that the supplier keeps?

First, steamboat hasn't finalized anything right?

Second, I think this would be optional; obviously some people are still going to want chips & boards.
352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: August 31, 2013, 10:23:56 AM
Bkkcoins...After you finalize the current K16 design, do you plan to do any additional work on the project or pass on the torch to the open source community?  The last I read, the Avalon gen2 chip just sounded like a die shrink with the same physical size and pin out configuration.

I guess what I am really asking is; will you still be involved in the project or do you have different plans for the future?  I've really enjoyed watching this thread over the past few months. Seeing all of your hard work coming together,  along with all of the community input and support has been really exciting.  I was just wondering if you could share with us any future plans or new projects you might be involved with going forward.  I'm sure many of us would love to read some type of miniblog on any of your future ventures, even if they happen to be outside the bitcoin environment.

Thanks for all of your hard work and contributions!

Chad

Seconded.  Thanks for allowing as a window into your creative process.  Please keep us informed of your future projects; you've developed quite a following. Smiley

I'm with ecliptic here.  The money I invested here was earmarked for mining.  If I have to I'll find somewhere else to park it, but like you said wrenchmonkey, I don't think anyone here asked for investment advice. Smiley
354  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Liquid Synergy Designs Inc. -ASIC mining hardware on: August 31, 2013, 12:48:09 AM
If you have 200 chips, you'll roi faster than 16 chips.

How do you figure?  16 chips mines at proportionally the same rate as 200 chips.  The only difference is less power supplies per 16.
355  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner USB group buy- orders closed, pay for extra! on: August 31, 2013, 12:07:37 AM
Miners in hand. I'm packing them individually now, and will ship them tomorrow for sure.

Shipped?

Never say for sure. I couldn't, for the life of me, get my pc to work with fedex website last night or today. And couldn't get access to anyone else's system either cause I've been sick at work. And of course, now it's labor day weekend... I got timing!

I'll get my pc fixed and labels sorted out asap. I have all weekend to work on it, which is rare these days... Working 6 days a week at my  friends shop to earn the roof over my head.

If anyone feels slighted out whatever, i'll upgrade to overnight Or refund partial. Mind you I have almost no btc right now since I've pulled it to fiat to pay shipping.

What's overnight cost for me?  I got six, feel free to put them in the same box.  If you don't go upside down for overnight shipping, I'd like it.  I still want you to pocket a little for doing this group buy.

Never mind arklan.  I can wait two or three days.  Don't worry about overnighting it.  Excuse my lapse in judgement.

I just found this in another thread.  It seems to document that one batch of Avalon chips was actually in customs for 60 days or so.

Ok everybody, as promised, I have an update on the Avalon chips shipment status. I just got off the phone with Gary, the account manager for this particular case and this is exactly what he told me:

This shipment has been on hold by US Customs in New York since June 12th. He said that these are extremely extenuating circumstances because the most shipments ever get held up by Customs is about 30 days, so this is WAY past that. He also mentioned that US Customs has been non-cooperative when it comes to conveying any communication on the status of this case. So Gary and his company, they're all having a special meeting next Wednesday together with the Director of the US Customs of New York.

So we should have more information late Wednesday night. I will update you as soon as I get briefed on the matter.

Hope this helps shed a little more light on this unfortunate incident.

This is ragingazn628's group buy.  The chips in question are sample chips.  And they were held up in NY customs.  And we still don't have those chips.

Agreed.  Shit sucks.  I just don't see the point of all the anger and beating of chests and knashing of teeth.  We're still playing this out; it's not over yet.
Part of the point is that it only appears that when people start to get really pissed off here does Yifu sign on and start to do something. It has happened twice now. His MO is the same: offer a bone to people (in the last case Avalon 3 refunds which he "thought" were already given) or some false glimmer of hope that orders are about to ship, then he disappears into the wilderness again and waits for the pot to boil over before coming back. He needs to get his shit together, and he needs to do it fast. We are all sick and tired of it and I think he underestimates what he is against here. He didn't just scam someone on ebay out of few hundred dollars here. This is hundreds of people and millions of dollars. There *will be* repercussions, and the longer he waits the more severe they will be. Those are the facts.

This I can agree with.

I've only got 20 chips worth of say.  Do what you will.   Cry
