Anyone?
342  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: July 22, 2017, 09:40:56 AM
five year yield and three year yield of gold has been quite bad. Why would gold still be a good investment?

In fact, I love gold charts

They are nice looking and they are good at showing what gold is and what it is not. If you also took the charts of the USDX (the US dollar index which basically shows the strength of the dollar against major fiat currencies), you would see tight correlation between the price of gold denominated in dollars and the value of the dollar itself. That essentially means that the value of gold doesn't change much over time. And this tells us that gold is a special type of investment, an investment which is not about earning profits and multiplying your capital but rather a tool for preserving the value of this capital in various financial as well as economic storms and tempests

I am a little dense. If "tight correlation between gold price denominated in dollars" doesn't it then be very flattish and grows slight ly uptrend according to USD money supply and inflation?
343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any new airdrop coins? on: July 22, 2017, 08:59:28 AM
i basically agree with you--most Stellar Lumens will probably be unclaimed in the upcoming airdrop.. which means they will be donating a lot to themselves which is debatably questionable..  Roll Eyes

Wow that's a little too cheeky!

They said the foundation takes only 5%, but indirectly claims 10+% (even that's a very conservative number) each distribution! Which means their holding would go sky high to 30-40% or more.

344  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: If Segwit2x gains 90% support before Aug 1st, will BIP148 still go live? on: July 22, 2017, 08:55:52 AM
But I've read about miners which signaling on bit 1 has been declined after BIP91 locked-in, maybe you can see it on bitcoin core wallet or it just fud news?
That is completely incorrect. Signaling on bit 1 has significantly increased after BIP 91 locked in. You can clearly see the increase in signaling of bit 1 over the past day in this graph:

The yellow line is segwit signaling over the last 144 blocks. As you can see, it has sharply increased today as BIP 91 locked in.

I'm wondering too, what's going on. If they don't use bit 1 or BTC1 (v1.14.4) software, is it matter? As segwit2x should be activated in 2 weeks, right?
No. BIP 91 (aka the first half of segwit2x) requires that all blocks after activation must signal for segwit on bit 1. Segwit2x is not a different implementation of segwit. Rather it is a plan to activate segwit via BIP 91 (and BIP 91 activates segwit by requiring all blocks signal for segwit) and then to hard fork later.

I'm waiting for BIP148 which is on mooting right now, whether it still necessary or whatever it could be.
Right now, BIP 148 is theoretically pointless as miners should be enforcing BIP 91. If they do not, then BIP 148 will have an effect as then BIP 148's rules activate on August 1st. However I am told that most miners are running either btc1 (aka the segwit2x client) or segsignal (aka a BIP 91 patch on top of Core) so they will be enforcing BIP 91.

Encapsulated means another way, a secret path to activate segwit Cheesy
BIP91 includes a hard forking, about 2Mb hard fork, right?
No, BIP 91 does not include a hard fork. That is segwit2x. Segwit2x contains BIP 91, but BIP 91 is not segwit2x.

Does hard fork even really necessary? Does bitcoin need 2Mb blocksize?
Calling it a 2 MB block size is actually completely wrong. The maximum block size would be 8 MB. It does represent a capacity increase, but it may be one that is unnecessary with all of the things that segwit brings us. In fact, such a hard fork could be harmful.

I heard somewhere else it's 10mb, can you show me the code?
345  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: If Segwit2x gains 90% support before Aug 1st, will BIP148 still go live? on: July 22, 2017, 08:54:32 AM
BIP148 is the forceful way to start Segwit by allowing BIP148 voters to reject non Segwit-supporting blocks.

It's like a pre announced coup in favor of Team-A in the middle of an election.

Segwit2X is Team-A and Segwit is the presidential candidate and 2X his running mate.

Hi guys, some doubts regarding the lumens giveaway. The % of lumens given away to an individual is the % of bitcoin he/she holds. So take Rachel for example below:

Doesn't that mean that only if every bitcoin owner claims the lumens, the vast majority will be given back to Stellar. If 1% of bitcoin holders claim it then they will give out 1% of the 16% (16 is the percentage giveaway of total Stellar) which means they will be giving 0.16% to the public in this snapshot.

Which by my case is fine but it feel like playing-with-words when they know that they can get the vast majority of the giveaway back. Unless I am understanding it wrong.

Please enlighten if this is what they meant.

This September the City Awards will be announced. Digibyte is nominated. This coin will raise to the moon and if it wont win an award you will still make a big profit I think.

Is this what you are talking about?

That sucks, I know a friend lost 147 ETH from the Parity hacks Sad

Did they promise a refund or something?

350  Economy / Economics / Re: Do we have enough support for Segwit? on: July 22, 2017, 07:43:41 AM
There is an argument that even with 2-4mb block there isn't enough space/time to do fast enough transaction. The new bitcore stated 20mb block as their advantage against bitcoin. Can someone technical enough enlighten on the technicalities?

Hi guys,

Am thinking of taking a sabbatical year or two off to travel Europe and maybe even study a Masters degree.

Does anyone have any MBA programs to recommend in Europe.

Especially one that is cheap or with scholarship?

My background is technical with personal interest in history/economics.

I am planing to put in some investment into either one. Can someone give some advice? Smiley

Do you own BTC?  You can get GBYTE for free with the Airdrop

Yes, and it's yielding slightly over 1% Smiley
354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers steal $32 Million Worth of Ethereum From 3 Multisig Wallets on: July 20, 2017, 11:43:07 AM
good thing myetherwallet is immune from these threat.  its like blockchain.info wallet of bitcoin.  just that myetherwallet is a little harder to use for newbies.

Oh I hope you are correct...
Wrong, myetherwallet still not safe when they not have 2FA for security wallet, example hacker attack your PC and know your private key, they can withdraw your coin anytime on myetherwallet. I had mail to devs myether about this issue but still not have reply Sad

Iirc they started implementing 2FA a week or two ago. Let's pray.
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers steal $32 Million Worth of Ethereum From 3 Multisig Wallets on: July 20, 2017, 11:41:10 AM
May I just ask what a multisig wallet is? This is a huge amount I must say.

Multi signature. Several people need so sign with their own private key for the tokens to be used.

Someone must have figured how to cheat the opposite to thinking he has signed maybe
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IOTA and GBYTE on: July 20, 2017, 11:37:47 AM
I like Gbyte for its well maintained community (small but fine) and fair distribution.

GByte took a page from IOTA whitepaper, so I wonder how is IOTA doing.

Btw how is IOTA distributed. I see fair distribution as crucial.

If the ICO guys can stop dumping ether then the price could stable and go up, else we are in for a roller coaster ride.

It's not just any hack, it's a parity hack

- The client with the fastest block speed, least footprint, and touting other technical prowess.
- The founder is the cofounder of ethereum blockchain. Other core members are from ethcore.

Bad day for ethereum.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum Virtual Machine questions by five year old on: July 20, 2017, 05:06:14 AM
Hi guys,

Can someone explain to "a five year old" why EVM can be 256bit when Java Virtual Machine is only 32 bit. How can EVM  "calculate" or "compute" so much faster than other virtual machines?

There is a JIT interpreter in EVM, is it to convert from bytecode to machine code? How does contract ABI code and creation code fall into the puzzle?

Thanks!
