Installing new card drivers now. Tense moment as I see whether my PSU can handle two high powered cards.  Undecided

I'm trying to get a new gpu aswell to help with the hash rate, don't know if I should get a 7950, a 280x or a 290, kind of tight on money right now and although it's an investiment with return so I don't know how should I handle this ..

Well, I have it working alongside my GTX 670 now.

The R9 280x provides nice bang for buck, but it runs pretty hot. It's fine though, as they can take the heat, but when it gets to max temp I drop from 700mhash/sec to 635mhash/sec, so realistically to get max performance I'll need to watercool it. It's a bit annoying that I bought the best performing/cheapest R9 280x that I could find, because I'll have to buy a Universal GPU waterblock to cool it now, as it's a non-reference board. Oh well. It'll still be way better than the stock air cooler. A decent 240 radiator should keep it running at 700mhash.  Smiley

The water cooling should pay itself off over time via increased lifespan and possible overclocking, a little risky for long term use though.

I've got some watercooling experience. I'll be fine. I won't be overclocking. It's just to keep the card cool. I'm going to need it for when the summer comes along. I should be able to fit a 50mm thick dual radiator in the top of the case and mount the fans on top of the case. Probably wire them up to a fan controller and rev it up when I'm mining. Get some SP120 performance fans, aka Jet engines.  Wink

what you think of col ? Dead ? Anny chances? :what points it has so it maybe succeeds?

PoS apparantly doesn't work anymore, and if true, makes the coin worthless.

Should I be getting more Khash with Scrypt Jane than Scrypt? I can't tell if I'm using both or one of my GPUs here.

Can't get the microCoin miner to mine. It gives me the same error message I get in CGminer because I have two different cards. Tried adding --gpu-platform 1, but nothing.

Yep. Appears to be bug. I can't actually mine because I have two cards. In CG miner it would default to 0, or with --gpu-platform I can set which card to use, but that doesn't work in microCoin miner. It just stays on the start screen;

Any ideas?

Fair launch and decent coin specs.

Going to be big this one. I can feel it.

Grain WILL go up in value. It's a coin better held right now than sold.

If it's cheap, like I said before I will buy it in bulk.

R9 280x has arrived. Tonight we mine in hell.

-snip-

Nice. I'm not sure if I should grab a 280x myself when I save up enough BTC from all this trading or if I should just keep trading up. If I keep it then I'll keep gaining funds pretty fast, and a single 280x probably isn't even that big a deal for mining anyway. I'd probably want at least two, but that's nearly a full $1000 here.

I already have a GPU for mining, but it's Nvidea. This 280x will pay for itself in a few weeks from altcoin trading. Then I'll buy a second one.

So with the two cards I have now I should get close to a Megahash, which isn't bad.

I gave the dev 200 coins the other day and didn't even get a thanks or anything in return for it.
I created a thread in the other forum saying that I would giveaway 1000 CAT if we broke 45000.
I gave skillface 20 cat because he made a dumb move and I felt bad lol.
I have created multiple threads on other forums promoting CAT and received a ton of views but very little feedback.
And last but not least, I've been trying over and over to drive the price up by buying but no one backs me up so I have taken consistent losses.
I may have the cash but I'm not stupid. If I see a dead end I'll cut my losses. Luckily I have faith that we will recover Cheesy

The market is very thin, if we get 30 people with 1 BTC each we could double our price per coin easily. And that isn't unreasonable, look at the volume on cryptsy.

I barely have half a Bitcoin to my name, and believe me, it's all tied up in Catcoin. It's basically everything I've made in the last two weeks. It may not be a lot, but it's a lot to me. Every bit of BTC I make seems to somehow end up going into this coin. I can't do any more than that, really. I need a small float of BTC to speculate to make more BTC, but until my mining rig is upgraded I'm not making enough to make a decent investment. Hopefully I'll finally have a decent solo mining rig to get some decent altcoin trades done this weekend.

I do worry about the Moon. It seems to have a lot of coins heading for it lately. No wonder it's so pot-marked.

I hope we're actually going to find out what, and how the fork is going to work. I also hope the pools and exchanges are notified as well. Forking is seriously risky business. Could make or break any coin.

I think it would be great to have an Android GrainCoin wallet. That way you wouldn't have to worry about your wallet on your PC being open all the time. Your phone is on all the time anyway Smiley

Well, shouldn't be a CPU issue for any relatively modern android phone. Would be pretty awesome if there were an Android wallet, but it sounds like a lot of work.

48    Catcoin   $ 333,193   $ 0.32   1,040,400 CAT   $ 15,499   +4.12 %

Sad. So undervalued. From experience in the stock market, we determined risk/reward ratio based on the market capitalization.
This is 5th most watched and 3rd most replied altcoin thread in this entire subforum. And we are at a measly $333k market cap!
This is what drives me to buy this coin. And I will keep buying it until it's true value is realized.
For now my job is to scare weak hands into selling to me for cheaper Smiley

Look at the top 5 most viewed altcoin threads and their market caps and tell me what you see wrong with the picture.

#1 NXT           $ 44,948,819      17013    219488
#2 DOGE           $ 5,874,966      10120    641777
#3 CAT                  $ 333,193        7147    146108
#4 EAC             $ 1,229,524       5032    132705
#5 QRK            $ 20,473,676      4718    272113

Don't know what we'd do without ya Leo. We need some money behind this coin.

I should (hopefully) have my new graphics card tomorrow. I'm thinking of mining Cat full time as an investment. At the very least I can throw 740khash at it while I continue to use my other card for other coins.

I'm starting to come around to the idea of coming up with a difficulty adjustment algorithm that will stop getting this cat strangled by the multipools. I'm concerned we'll end up rushing like we did last time and end up in an even worse state. The readjustment time is perfectly fine, the difficulty swings need to go. I'm sure if we put our heads together we can come up with the best difficulty adjustment algorithm to fix this. I don't think setting caps will work. If the swings are small, we've just made the coin more stable, but it won't increase in value because the difficulty will still keep wavering. Perhaps a cap, and with every swing up an additional 0.1% difficulty increase on top of the base difficulty level. The coin would swing, but it would slowly swing upwards (hypothetically). This 0.1% would only be added per upswing, so if the coin's difficulty did get too high a couple of downswings would correct it, but more upswings than downswings would cause the difficulty to slowly go up. 0.1% Maybe up a little conservative, but the idea is for it to be a cumulative and gradual affect.

Coupled with this would have to be a cap on the downswing, so it doesn't drop too low. In theory, with the caps as well it should encourage difficulty growth if the difficulty isn't allowed to drop too much in one downswing.

Just throwing ideas out there at this stage.
3419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRA] Grain - New PoW/PoS coin | Fast, secure | Version 1.3 Released! on: January 10, 2014, 12:09:25 AM
It's good to see that everyone is waiting for the returning of PoS block generations. I hope everything will be smooth when we pass through the switchover block at 92000 in a day or two (pretty sure it will, as it worked fine in my tests).

Now I want to give you an overview of the issues with PoW/PoS so we will have a realistic expectations on the PoS.

From my experiences and my observations of many other PoW/PoS coins, the PoW/PoS coins are far less stable than the PoW only coins. The commonly observed problems are:
(1). PoW gets jammed (happened to many coins). Many fixed the issue by forking a new blockchain (including GRA), some did not bother to fix (or dev vanished?), like ADT and COL are still in PoS only mode.
(2). PoS stopped, like what happened to Grain, this is due to the out of sequence in time stamps.
(3). Lots of PoS generation affecting PoW block generation.

The issue (3) can be an annoying one. According to current algorithm, the PoW block time can be extended up to 12X the normal time, if there are a lot PoS generated in-between. This is a normal behavior to maintain the overall block time. And we don't expect PoS always generate a lot all the time (it's controlled by its own diff adjusting). Another possible issue with a lot PoS generation is that it might affect PoW diff, and cause orphans (and I still need to check the code to see why - my understanding is that the two diffs are separated). I saw this issue occurred with Lucky7Coin end of last year, it caused a lot of issues in mining (virtually all the mining pools are stopped as 90% are orphans), and most blocks generated were PoS blocks, with some PoW in-between (the PoW generated time increased between 2X to 12X). The problem is gone now after the PoS generation subsides in Lucky7coin.

The Grain is based on Lucky7Coin code (mainly to use its superblock generation algorithm), which in turn based on Novacoin/PPCoin. We adjusted many parameters and hopefully the same issue will not occur here. We also have all the fixes from PoW/PoS (like the fix from Balthazar on self-forking). For now we still allow the max PoW generation block time be 12X the normal one if needed. We could change it to less multiples such as 3X used (fixed by a patch in) Novacoin codebase, so it could make the mining of PoW less disruptive.

Anyway, just want the community knows the status of PoW/PoS coin in general, and let's hope the Grain will work great Wink

Well, it does sound rather technical, but I'm glad Grain has an active dev who has an interest in maintaining his coin, so I will continue to show my support for Grain.

I'm going to have a wallet on a 24/7 server and send my coins periodically there. Unless I can somehow get the wallet running on my Rasberry Pi, it's not practical for me to have this PC running 24/7.

Looks half-decent.

As long as my wallet doesn't get probed, I'm in.
