3421  Other / Beginners & Help / SegWit balance checker?? Mobile app? on: November 14, 2018, 03:38:38 PM
Wonder if there is a way to check the balance in a given SegWit wallet address, mobile app will be the best option, but I can bookmark a link too.
I found one mobile app that adds widget for every address, very cool but of course it doesn't work with SegWit addresses.
3422  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Full Guide to BitcoinTalk on: November 14, 2018, 03:25:59 PM
There are many guides like your already.
I made one a year ago, and i'm trying to keep it updated >
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2534500.0

I'm not sure that we need one more... really.
3423  Other / Meta / Re: I put the meriters and the OP on ignore for this thread. on: November 14, 2018, 03:16:59 PM
Just wondering is this considered as a merit begging ??

~
I will be grateful for merit  Wink

and if it is, will be there any consequences or not?
There were some discussions about the giving red trust for merit abuse, but I don't know what happen at the end.

3425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To new users, What are you struggling to learn? on: November 14, 2018, 08:01:52 AM
This is the real problem, for technical documents and whitepapers in general the reader needs a little fluent English, many translations to other languages make mistakes in real ideas and purpose of these, changing complete sentences in some cases. It is preferable to learn English rather than read in secondary languages since many terms are only used in English or don't have real translations into other languages.

Sure this is not only crypto related, it's with everything. One stupid example is that I cannot use my phone/computer when I change the UI to my native language, it's just a mess, the translation of thinks like "gateway" or "mask", the explanation of the errors in the error logs it's just meaningless.

Interesting. Trying it now, looks like fun game Cheesy
I entered the wrong room, i'm in trial (bot fight) but it goes well Wink
3427  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion]To draw more attention to the rules! on: November 13, 2018, 08:53:59 AM
Not sure what is your real problem, but I guess (only my guess) that you got trouble with normal link (I don't remember what its name truly is, I will update the post later when I am on computer); then all thing was fine when you used Direct Link.
Personally, I always use Direct Links on imgur to show attached images inside my posts.
Do I guess right, @iasenko?

When I open the thread for the first time there was an error on the image and I thought that it may be the German server he is uploading the picture to.
That's why I uploaded it on imgur but when I posted the new image, I saw that his link is also working just fine and  left a note that it's working now.
That's all.
3428  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin discussion on: November 13, 2018, 08:47:07 AM
Altcoin discussion as the Bitcoin discussion is just a section for the sig. spammers to gain their weakly post counts. Very few legit users post there.

If the campaigns are still relaying on the post counts and not the earned merit, the things will be like this for a very long time.
3429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To new users, What are you struggling to learn? on: November 13, 2018, 08:42:01 AM
Do you think users struggle to understand the basics because the information isn't readily available to them in their language? Do you believe users would benefit from informative guides on the basics and main information guides out there but in their particular languages?
To understand something you need to have a proper information. If you are not fluent in English and you try to find this information in your native language you have to be sure that it's a credible source. In this sea of information you need to find the right sources.

Quote
What types of languages do you see most often requested or lacking translation of crypto basics?
For example, Bulgarian. Even tho the bitcon is very popular in Bulgaria, to find detailed/technical info is almost impossible, most of the links redirect you to external English sources.

Quote
So you don't see users that may be english natives, or know english fluently, having issues learning about crypto in general? What would you say english users have problems learning understanding?
I say that English speakers have a higher change to get quality information in wider specter then the other.
Remember that the Bitcoin Whiter paper was written in English.

Quote
If you can remember distinct moments in when you began to learn crypto, what were some of the first things that you really got stuck on/ were hard to understand? What did you do to fix those things? What would have made it easier for you at the time?
It was back in 2009, when the bitcoin hit the first news, a buddy of mine came to me and said, there's a new digital currency and sounds interesting. I just quick looked at it, but it looked too complicated, so I just gave it up until 2013, when another friend stated mining, then I joined too, and then I stated reading.
3430  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 13, 2018, 08:21:31 AM
...
This 3d should definetely be locked so instead of 300 more pages of the same questions and answers, people will be forced to read it.
It’s a good english comprehension exercise indeed.
Answer to this question is few comments before your. And in the op. And in every page of the 3d.

They don't want to read the rules after they got banned, and you suggest to you lock the thread and force them to read it. HOW???  No chance, it's just causa perduta.
3431  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 13, 2018, 07:47:06 AM
Am still trying to figure out this merit, it's requirement and it's source also, However i still believe one knows if he/she is a merit source? As far as i understand, everyone who currently has merit, is able to give out a part of his merit in the form of sMerit. for example if you have 94sMerit, does this makes you a "source"

Or do sources have unlimited amounts of sMerit to give out, as opposed to 'anyone having higher or lower amount?

Not everyone with airdropped Merit have sMerit, only those who have been active the past year.
Merit sources get additional sMerit amount which replenish 30 days after it's been used.
Merit Sources are aware of their status.

Merit is required only for to rank up, no additional benefits. The side effect is that the more merit you earn the better reputation you have here.
3432  Other / Meta / Re: Reporter Statistics on: November 13, 2018, 07:17:11 AM

 Tongue

Cool, this report link in the menu, is this how you see the incoming reports in the section you are moderating?
3433  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion]To draw more attention to the rules! on: November 12, 2018, 02:56:11 PM
To be honest, from the moment you enforce rules they do become OFFICIAL, no matter how you name them.

Keep in mind the word unofficial only applies to the list and not to the rules themselves.

However an official LIST would also be great.

Yes, you are correct, it applies only for the list, but I read it so many times that only the word Unofficial stuck in my head.
Anyway I support the suggestion with 2 hands, I even suggested it myself some months ago, that the rules have to be more visible.
3434  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion]To draw more attention to the rules! on: November 12, 2018, 02:02:38 PM
They are still Unofficial rules but we enforce them quite heavily.
Isn't it time now to make the Official /complete/ Forum Rules, then this suggestion will be perfectly logical.
We need some cases/scenarios to be cleared out so we know how to react in a particular case when is't not covered by the rules.
3435  Other / Meta / Re: What are the forum Administrators doing about Scam projects (Bounties) on: November 12, 2018, 01:38:27 PM
There is no way to tell which project is scam and which is not.
The most perfect example is MagicalTux. One of the most reputable users of the forum turned out to be a large scale scammer /Mt.Gox/
But he did quite a lot for the forum and the bitcoin development and was respected user with perfect reputation.
Then you gonna understand why Theymos has trust issues...

~

Mine got hacked to.

Vod and lauda did help me actually. So props to them.

Sorry for the off-topic but how did you got it back??
3438  Other / Meta / Re: Encouraging users to lock threads on: November 09, 2018, 10:49:25 PM
...

What I think should be standard is that a topic should get locked automatically after a certain period of time of inactivity.  Since necrobumping isn't allowed, dead threads ought to be locked to prevent people from bumping them.
...

I also like this idea (see my topic from june https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4467305.0) but in the end, the conclusion is the same, nothing will change...
Let spammers to spam and let reporters to report, that's all...

If it is added to the community suggestions thread, it might get the needed attention.
3439  Other / Meta / Re: Stake your Bitcoin address here on: November 09, 2018, 09:58:32 PM
Sorry, I just now understand how it works. In the first post I mistakenly indicated the address from the exchange. Now I specify my wallet with blockchain.com

1H2xqn3VT4RNt8yUCFat8kvrPg7Tg1SYCv
You need to sign a message with your address, it's not possible to do it from a exchange wallet.
Read this thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0
It will be helpful.
3440  Other / Meta / Re: Encouraging users to lock threads on: November 09, 2018, 09:54:35 PM
I wonder if we check there last 100 threads in the Bitcoin Discussion, how many posts the thread-starters have in their own threads.
I'm pretty sure more than the have will have only 1 post (the OP).
