3441  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 10, 2014, 11:06:00 AM
Bought one yesterday, waiting for it to arrive.  Wink

I've read through the FAQ and the manuals on the website but there are still some parts that I don't really understand...

Does the Trezor hold your coins? or are they on the Trezor web wallet (or whatever wallet you're using)?
Isn't it still possible for hackers to create malware and upload it onto a trezor through the "update" function?

I'm sorry if these questions have already been answered in this thread but as you can see, the thread is almost as long as a book.

Technically wallets do not contain any coins, they hold private keys that can prove which ones you own on the blockchain.

These private keys are protected by the trezor. It only accepts valid updates not any update so you should be able to safely use it on an infested computer.

From the original list published in 2012, how many turned out to be rip-offs?

I don't think many at all. John went mia for a bit but paid people back. We're pretty old members that were around when Bitcoin was worthless and had no incentive to steal. We were here for more altruistic reasons.

But didnt you say before somewhere  that you lost all your coins somehow, so there may always be an incentive for some escrowers (though not saying that you would run off with people's money, but safety is never guranteed).

Yeah my coins. I wouldn't steal though, I've had plenty of chances over the years. I got enough problems and people wishing me dead is the last thing I need.

I'm here to change the world not make money.

For your convenient wallet use blockchain, for savings use armory which needs qt.

Is there any security lost by restoring your Trezor using the recovery seed? I ask this because you have to type in the recovery seed on the computer. I know it is in a different order, but say if you had a keylogger, how much would this increase the chance of someone guessing your recovery seed, since they would know the words?

Yes definitely recover, move then wipe

Yes I'm not a developer. There's many new inventions coming and being the first to implement one would be great. I wonder if any of the developers want to test something like tree chains with BitpopCoin
I am wondering since you a not a develper, how did BCP come out?
BPC is the first community coin,if I am right.Really wish somebody can make it a good example in this market full of scams and shitcoins.

loljosh helped me

If you mean blockchain .info then no, this is in a different location, very secure. You can't even screw it up. Unless you share your secret words or lose them.

Get Trezor, no one can steal from you again.

Are they safe enough to secure the blockchain, I will not fall for BIPS/Kris's scam again. Next time is only to very safe. Else it does not matter. How to order?

They can only secure your Bitcoin but not the blockchain

Okay, so it was most likely a problem on my system with USB 3 drivers. Hmm, maybe I should figure out what it was, but I use USB so seldom...

Yes. Probably using USB hub downgraded the connection from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 and this started to work.

Trezor would do the same thing though

On the computer that did not work did you try all the different USB ports?  Just curious.

Yes, also 3-4 USB cables. Also on the laptop the same thing. Only my brothers PC was working, and his PC is nearly identical to mine.
I had similar problems with one of my machines. The problem was with USB3 port, when I plugged Trezor to USB2 it worked perfectly.

I tried that too. But the only USB2 I had was in my keyboard, so maybe that is why it didn't work. If this is true, you should fix the USB3 issue.

Usb 3 is buggy shit. Try to find updated drivers
