A c t u a l l y . . . it seems silly not to mention it: The first Dnotes trade was made on our in-house exchange on Saturday. Tee Gee is tracking this.

"2015-03-21   cragv   BTC   0.1   Y   IMZ   NOTE   2200   Y   Complete   Reserved for trade per Mar 17 discussion"

While I don't agree with much of this article, it does raise some interesting points for thought and implications for DNotes.

CAN BITCOIN’S REPUTATION BE SAVED?

What do you guys think?

"Bitcoin ecosystem is being built almost exclusively by third parties who believe that it is a good business opportunity for their investment."

Tee hee.

My favourite gripe on this is 'How did we shift so fast from staunchly-libertarian-geeks-with-laptops-meeting-in-cafes-to-trade-coin to Omni Exchange Inc.?" (though I do actually know the answer)

Mark

I think there would be quite a few answers to that question Mark. I have noticed that recent surveys have shown that in the year to 2014, the percentage of crypto holders who identify as 'libertarian' or 'anarcho-capitalist' (like myself) has decreased from ~42% to roughly 22% (using memory for figures here) in one year. This growth, I would mostly attribute to the incredible success of the crypto industry, the attraction of getting in on the super profits that have been reported in media, and the broad support for getting the financial system and mechanics for money creation out of the control of private bankers that exists in almost all areas of the philosophical spectrum. The libertarians and 'ancaps' played an important part in the nascent crypto industry to 'get the ball moving' with moderate influxes of capital. The particular aforementioned philosophical adherents also tend to be, as you termed it 'quite geeky', and also exhibit tendencies to take interest in all topics pertaining to decentralised financial systems outside the reach of central planners. It has been very enjoyable to watch other groups slowly enter the crypto-sphere and see the benefits of decentralised currency. Now DNotes is in place to ameliorate the few important deficiencies found in the original bitcoin concept - stability, trust, engaged community and focus on the actual 'functions of money' that will allow DNotes to be used as a viable competitor to fiat currency before any other, while many other coins get lost in the myriad of 'features', 'bells', and 'gimmicks' that lead to initial price appreciation and then rapid corrections (DarkCoin, Auroracoin, XCurrency to name a few). You strike me as a very intelligent and observant player in this game IMZ - Mark, so i'm sure I have shared with you nothing new.

The DNotes CRISP programs work to provide one of the key elements that is required for any successful currency to act in line with the 'functions of money' without wild price vicissitudes - savings.

My next post will be about the CRISP for students, and other CRISPS and how they will behave to allow DNotes to become a true competitor with fiat currency in the future through an initial economic base in savings, as opposed to debt. I must for now, disappear for a few hours.

My CRISP post is still on it's way (being written in my head), perhaps scheduled for tomorrow. Something just came across my mind though... do we need a wikipedia entry for DNotes, given all the extra PR attention we are getting / due to get?

That sounds like a great idea. Are you an editor there? We also have this one for reference:
http://coinwik.org/DNotes

I'm not an 'official editor' or anything, but I'm pretty sure anybody can modify / create articles. I think using the coinwik.org article as an information base, and writing about the previous year of DNotes history, backed up with a list of press releases and milestones is a great idea. The wikipedia entry will likely be the first entry to come up on google for any search for "DNotes", so it will be a great advertising tool, I believe.

I'm more than happy to do this, I can do the research through the forum history, check press releases, and remember most of the milestones DNotes has met and goals set.

Here is a publicly available Google Drive document that I'll share, for anybody here to add milestones, press release links (prefer by largest, most reputable news networks like CNBC, bloomberg, yahoo where possible) etc. I need to write my CRISP post before I get onto the wikipedia entry.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eyA5pDfviQdw9V-8rYZSOiFzUpEjRnudsTvf00VF2-M/edit?usp=sharing

Update as you see fit, and when I've got through some other things I'll begin a write up.

Thank you TeeGee, that would be excellent.

How about CRISP for Vacation? Could be fun, pay for your vacation in the Bahamas with DNotes Smiley

That's awesome! How about a lottery CRISP for Vacation too? People enter by throwing in say 2000 DNotes, and the moment the vacation lottery fund reaches say $5000 USD, whether by price appreciation, or more DNotes triggering the 5k limit - contributors are given a chance to win based on their proportion of the vacation fund they put in. Could be an interesting 'third party' CRISP that a private individual could run as a sort of promotional lottery for DNotes or something.

A CRISP generator that can be customized by the user would solve all these equations and give the user whatever they want, within reason and a set of rules of course.

True, that is a really good idea.

Do you think this is fraud protection or something resembling Big Brother?

"Visa's new fraud protection software will track customers' smartphones"

Tracking your location by your cell phone to prevent fraud does seem a bit too intrusive. It will be interesting to see how fraud protection evolves, it is such a huge issue.

Just catching up a little on what's happening in the DNOTES world Smiley

The community here never ceases to amaze me. So much amazing community interaction here. Love it.

Hi, Octoparty. We are always happy to see you here. I know that you have devoted much time and resources to help smooth out some challenging situations in our industry, which we never seem to be lacking. We certainly wish you well. Visit us often, share your observations on the "state of the crypto world" as you see it, and let us know if there is anything we can be helpful.

Thanks Dyna. Always a pleasure. And yes, I have been a busy, busy man lately. I should be attending my first Bitcoin Meetup here in Florida this month. I'm hoping to make some good contacts and get some things started down here. I also will be hiring out some jobs soon, which should free up some of my time. But, even when busy, I always check in here and catch up Smiley

Good to hear Octoparty, let us know how you did at your bitcoin meetup.

There is still 3 full days left in the CRISP Word Contest.  I am going to collect them all tomorrow night and again when the contest ends into one post.   Once they are collected tomorrow, I would appreciate  if everyone can start commenting on a favorite or two to make it easier for grandmama and myself to judge.  You can post as many entries as you want in each category for the remainder of the contest.  Please feel free to contribute even if you don't want to take part in the prizes.

I have one for the non-competitive "Customized CRISP":

CRISP For Customer Loyalty:  This would work better, at least at first, on larger purchases like vehicles, appliances, furniture, equipment, etc.  Because you are already sitting down filling out the paperwork on such sales, setting up a CRISP would be simple.  As an incentive to remain loyal to a specific retailer, a small percentage of the sale would go towards establishing, or further contributing to, a CRISP for the customer.  It could evolve to include a point system (which could include major retailers) where a certain amount of points allows you to purchase one DNote.

                              Smiley

Great, I will blast that out on social media. Maybe it will get us a few more entries.

I just made the following post on CryptoMoms and was wondering if a Thunderclap campaign is anything that could help the CRISP For Students?  I am so far down the scale on social media awareness, I don't even register!

**************************************

"I came across this today and was so impressed, I don't even remember what I was searching for.  They are having a Thunderclap campaign to raise awareness for WeSpeakCode in Asia Pacific.  They have met their target and there is only 5 days left, but if you have a chance to show support with Facebook or Twitter, it's a great cause.

https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/21629-wespeakcode-in-asia-pacific?locale=en

Microsoft YouthSpark

"Microsoft YouthSpark is a global, company-wide initiative to empower young people to do more and achieve more in their lives – by providing access to technology skills and a better education, inspiring youth to imagine and realize a better future, and helping them find jobs or to start their own businesses."

WeSpeakCode

"In today’s world, we are surrounded by technology. Information, commerce, communication and entertainment all rely on computers. Unfortunately, only a tiny fraction of students in Asia Pacific learn the basics of how computers work, much less how to create apps or websites.

The good news is that we’re on our way to change this. Last year Microsoft Asia Pacific launched the successful YouthSpark #WeSpeakCode campaign saw thousands of enthusiastic young people across the region getting their first taste of learning basic coding skills, while many others took up more advanced challenges through hackathons and coding for social good.

This year we are working with even more partners across the region who also believe code is a language everyone should learn and computational thinking is a skill which should be taught in all schools. That is why during 23-29 March 2015 together we will be once again saying #WeSpeakCode.

We want to encourage everyone – whether you are a student, teacher or parent – to take your first steps into coding and discover just how easy and fun it can be.

What are you waiting for? Start learning how to code today."

http://www.wespeakcode.net/default.aspx

What thunderclap does is organize people to send a message on social media at the same time. You have to promote your thunderclap to get people to join in, opposed to just asking them to retweet or share. It's an interesting concept, but I would think it would work better for charities and events.

Its threads like this that really makes it even worth logging in anymore, these days... I can mine Dnotes and trade and have fun and make a little money and all, but it always nicer when you know the people behind the coin and what they stand for and where your "2 cents" matters.

Welcome back! Glad to see you're back in action.

Just saw some statistics on the news.. 53% of women have some sort of savings for retirement, while 65% of men do.  The average savings for women is $34,900 while men save almost 3 times as much, at $76,800.  68% or two-thirds of the money that women save is in the form of cash, which means it is earning no interest, no dividends. We found this to be true with an elderly woman, she just turned 81, we have been helping out since her husband passed away. The majority of her money was sitting in a checking account gaining her nothing. First thing we did was get her an attorney the second thing we did was get her an appointment with some financial advisors. She now has money that is working for her.  She was part of the statistic of women who did save and was also the part of the 68% of women who had all her money in the form of cash. We have a ways to go to educated women on how to save and that savings needs to be working for them not just sitting in an account where it is not working for them.

Great post grandmama!  "The average savings for women is $34,900" - This is scary when you consider the poverty line is around $20,000 (single) in Canada.  It is probably similar in the U.S. depending where you live.  If that $34,000 is all you have for retirement, you are covered for less than 2 years!!  Canada has Old Age Security (if you qualify) and guaranteed income supplement that may stretch out your $34,900 for a few extra years.  Big sarcastic wow!!  No wonder some women are planning on working forever.

I agree that women need to be educated on how to save.  They also need to learn the truth about risk and how to make it work for them.

That is a much larger gap than I would have guessed. A financial education course could be a great way help this problem and to reach out and get people involved in the CRISP for Retirement program.

Excellent work Dyna! Wish I had your resources back in the day...  Smiley

WE wish we had Dyna's recourses from years ago. Our own PR staff? Nice. Lawyers on staff? Priceless. Top two floors of a Chicago skyscraper? Would be awesome!!

Smokey

Don't forget that it is not where we are now but where we are going from here that matters. By doing many good things others would not do, we will be in the position to do things that others could not do. I seldom worry about not having the resources. Being on the right path will get you the resources.

Yes it takes the right people, product and processes to make it work. If you acquire and surround yourself with the right people all pulling on the rope in the same direction you will go far. The right product which appeals to the masses and can be utilized by many. Processes which when put in place do exactly what they are meant to do to achieve the intended goals.  That is when you will go far and are poised for success.  A shout out to all who are making DNotes successful.  Although there may be struggles along the way if you have the product, people and processes put in place the struggles can be overcome.

That's absolutely right grandmama, there will be and have been many struggles, but none we can't overcome with the community's support.

Amidst all chaos and misdirection, DNotes has been establishing itself as an industry leader. Seeing as how there is virtually no rules, or regulation, would it be advantageous for us to draft up a set of rules and regulations? I'd assume it's too soon to undertake such a project, seeing as how there are still many misconceptions about cryptocurrency in general. When would be the ideal time?

Here is some information on how a bill becomes a law, and how citizens can propose an idea to their representative;

Thanks CryptoBroker79, that is excellent forward thinking for our industry. The link lays it out very simply. I'll have to look into it a bit further before I can give you a serious answer.

The potencial work made by a comunity is exponential than individual work. Step by step all days are new game.

should be good mark defined objetives-targets, if not dnotes still growing but not feel it or enjoy it, like this when make the target its party and congratulations day for active comunity  Grin and this is transmited to pasive comunity.

and maybe is good make an standard Dnotes comunity web for each country, with a person exposing his identity to help newbies of each country to trust dnotes proyect.

Thanks infovortice2013, expanding our web presence to other countries and languages is critical to our long term growth. The platform and representatives are yet to be determined. In shorter term we will focus on securing the local interest then expanding globally.
