3461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think quantum computers would break Bitcoin's security? on: April 16, 2015, 02:11:50 PM
SHA256 will never be cracked during our lifetime and beyond, this is a non issue. Efforts should be put instead in what to do with the blocksize limit.
3462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Explorer with Euro Values? on: April 15, 2015, 02:45:16 PM
I would recommend http://btc.blockr.io/ it shows both values in dollars or euro.

Where can i change the currency shown? So far the website looks interesting because i need something like a stat showing the incoming money.

https://blockchain.info can show both as well.

Blockchain.info, like i wrote, shows all other addresses in transactions too. It becomes confusing. I liked blockchain.info more before they starting plastering the whole site with addresses i dont care about. At least it would be good if they could be switched away.

I don't know how to set it up to EUR, but if you click above any of the BTC transactions (the green squares) it turns it into USD (im talking blockchain.info)
3463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Dash realistically compete with bitcoin on: April 15, 2015, 02:30:34 PM
Of course the creators are going to think it can. The question is, why would someone use Dash when there is Monero?
3464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Losses on: April 15, 2015, 02:27:22 PM

3465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is this not Bitcoinland on: April 15, 2015, 02:18:35 PM

This micronation seems more advanced (they even have their own football association):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Sealand

They could declare Bitcoin as official currency, it would be a good move and will suit their image. Or at least accept BTC in their online store:
http://www.sealandgov.org/shop

"Become a Lord, Lady, Baron or Baroness - from £29.99" tempting offer  Smiley
Probably no one that wants to be on there even knows what Bitcoin is. We should aware them and make it the official currency for the place.
3466  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good time to invest in btc? on: April 15, 2015, 02:17:04 PM
If I had the funds, I would rack up as much bitcoins as I could. Bitcoin is still at an infant stage, more and more companies and individuals will be slowly attracted towards the decentralised currency. Which means things can only get better henceforth

Bitcoin has been a steal since we started getting really cheap (sub 5XX). Been buying monthly since them, not a single regret, it will all pay off, hard work and dedication and a long term vision, that's how you make it.
3467  Economy / Speculation / Re: 3 billion market cap for this tech... on: April 15, 2015, 02:13:12 PM
I agree with you OP. $3bn is so ridiculously tiny. Buying bitcoins feels like buying winning lottery tickets.

Think about how many thousands of companies there are that you've never heard of which have a market cap above this. They are all valued above a currency that has a very real chance of becoming the most used currency of the planet AND as a store of value on par with gold.

As a completely arbitrary example, Severn Trent is a water company that serves a small area in England. It is valued at approx 2x the market cap of bitcoin. It has 8000 employees. Yet the market thinks this dinky little company has just as much future value as bitcoin? Wtf m8.

"Buying bitcoins feels like buying winning lottery tickets. " That's is exactly what is is, a perfect analogy to explain how does it feel buying sub 1XXX BTC right now. Too bad (for them) that most people don't have the vision.
3468  Economy / Speculation / Re: On a positive note... on: April 15, 2015, 02:11:39 PM
If it stays over 200$ we are on the latest "normal" 200-300$ area, which is actually OK. Under that value.. it may be rather chaotic and more will lose faith into Bitcoin.
But I don't think that's gonna happen.

All the crying is done by traders that want to earn a few more bucks on the panicking ones.
It's going to be fun seeing all the weak hands having strokes as soon as we test 1xx$, but im here for long term so that is only good news for anyone like me.
3469  Economy / Economics / Yanis Varoufakis speaks about Bitcoin in new short-documentary on: April 14, 2015, 04:01:20 PM

Don't know if this has been posted, I think not (or I couldn't find it). Definitely worth checking out. I really like the girl that became a BTCpreneur as well Smiley.
3470  Economy / Speculation / Re: A bet on: April 14, 2015, 03:54:11 PM
I`ll take that bet.  Cheesy jk. I dont gamble. But 2020 is 5 years from now lol.

If you really think a bunch of multimillionaires and billionaires going to let this coin drop, you are naive. They can buy up all the debt to fixate the price value if they really wanted it to, so when you see those facebook twins pumping more money.. it aint going to single digits.
They could make the coin 4 digits NOW. If they are letting it bet his low its on purpose. People should see it as a gift for us plebs to amass as much as possible. Don't cry later when you realize you missed this chance.
3471  Economy / Speculation / Re: 3 billion market cap for this tech... on: April 14, 2015, 03:43:57 PM
Its a shame though, cause despite the tech which I also appreciate and another reason I invested.

People are selling their coins left and right, due to the recent prices rumoring double digits. I think if anything, the blockchain is more valuable since its been a public ledger if a company can do this in their own version then I understand.
It's just the whales wanting to eat tons of BTC because they got left over (when I say whales I say traditional tech industries and wall street, not necessarly individual BTC whales). The manipulation these days is insane.
3472  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece's own bitcoin-like money on: April 14, 2015, 03:41:32 PM
My wishful thinking also. The time to set the hook may be only 72 hours. When Tsipras goes back with nothing and tells the German bankers, see I told you so, our last offer was the best offer, not this POS you are using for cover.
3473  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of CoinBase on: April 14, 2015, 03:38:50 PM
Coinbase basically has a monopoly over the US bitcoin market. There may be 1 or 2 other options like Circle and CampBX but their volume is limited to a fraction of Coinbase volume. I wonder if an antitrust lawsuit could be filed against them, why is there no real competition in the US?

Circle will catch up.

I call bullshit. That's a completely trivial statement that does not respond in any meaningful way to my claim that Coinbase IS a monopoly. I'm not claiming that they'll be a monopoly for all future time. In any case, what makes you think Circle will catch up? Their $2500 per week limit has not changed for a very long time (in crypto time) and as far as I know there is no indication that it will be changing. Do you have some info that you're basing your claim on or are you just pulling it out of your ass?

I'm saying that (right now) Coinbase has a de facto monopoly over the US bitcoin market. Maybe that will change in the future, I don't know, but I'm talking about the present. I'm citing facts to back my claim, everyone who has disagreed with me in this thread has either mentioned non-entity exchanges or said something nonsensical.

Can you sue Google for having De-facto monopoly over US search market ?
Exactly. Whats the point of complaining about that?
Solve it by providing a better service, or better yet, use other ways if you don't like Coinbase. The beauty of Bitcoin is there is always other ways to do things, and no one has a monopoly on BTC thyself.
3474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Losses on: April 14, 2015, 03:37:05 PM
1 Bitcoin in Paycoin Scam
Must suck lossing a whole Bitcoin, it's really hard to obtain an entire Bitcoin for most of us out there.
I've lost about 0.1 something and that sucked big time alone.
3475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mainstream on: April 14, 2015, 03:35:34 PM
Which App/Company can bring massive BTC adoption to the world?

I think messaging apps with new features including BTC of course, can do it.

Official twitter tipping can singlehandedly make BTC explode to unprecedented highs. Imagine celebs using it to tip fans and stuff.
3476  Economy / Speculation / Re: I have USD 2000 to invest. Should I buy Bitcoins or gold? on: April 13, 2015, 05:11:30 PM
For a stable investment, gold is the way to go. You're looking at a very risky investment with Bitcoin if your goal is to cash out in a year. It could be half it's price, it could be double the price. Gold retains its value more over time, so it's definitely a safer investment. In my opinion, I would go with the gold. I feel like the risk that Bitcoin inherits in terms of investment is too great. With gold, you're not going to bust completely.
Life is about time and money. With gold, you aren't beating time. To beat time, you need risk. With Bitcoin, you take a risk, but a reasonable amount of success is on the pipeline.
3477  Economy / Speculation / Re: Support is holding! on: April 13, 2015, 05:10:31 PM
Yeah, we're pretty much on paper-thin ice these days, I agree. But we're yet to cross the $200 line, in order for that super-bearish prediction to come true. Oh, wait - that one only lasted till last Friday Smiley
200 will resist, and if it doesn't who cares, anyone with half a brain knows the bitcoin protocol is solid as hell and time will give long term holders the reason,.
3478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kaspersky and INTERPOL Say Blockchain is Vulnerable on: April 13, 2015, 03:38:19 PM
What they are basically saying is that viruses can use the Bitcoin blockchain to communicate with their authors. So for example the virus author could put code into the blockchain and the infected computers would all get that code from the blockchain and run it.

This is a concern to kaspersky because normally the viruses would connect to a server, called a command and control server, to receive new instructions from the virus' author and send back stolen data etc. So all law enforcement would have to do is shut down the command and control server and they can cut the virus authors access to the infected computers. However, if the virus was using a blockchain, there would be no central point of failure and cutting the authors access would be non-trivial.

Other security researchers also had concerns about the website pastebin.com for similar reasons, that it could be used for botnet communication: http://blog.spywareguide.com/2009/06/pastebin-botnets.html

Most people are going to read this article and take it to mean that computers can be infected via the blockchain. This is not true. What they are talking about is using the blockchain as a way for hackers to send instructions to infected computers.

Anyone that is into Bitcoin should have decent, solid knowledge of how to keep a computer clean. If you are infected you are already screwed up.
I still don't get how the blockchain is going to be able to execute "code". All the blockchain does is verify hashes, given you aren't using some weird non common wallet.
3479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eBay and PayPal Confirm Upcoming Separation, Support for Bitcoin Payments on: April 13, 2015, 03:29:38 PM
too bad i can't see how bitcoin will take advantage of this, with high fees and chargeback still there, i hope it boost the price at least
Well, it doesnt stop people using paypal all the time. I myself use it for ebay and basically everywhere.
I would buy with BTC over ebay if I could, directly without paypal. But if paypal allows ebay use (since ebay for now hasn't said anything on getting BTC accepted) I would still use it.
3480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin? on: April 13, 2015, 03:24:47 PM
You could ask the same with facebook, why should someone use it instead of a different social network. The answer is simple facebook is the biggest social network with the most support worldwide. Bitcoin is like this the biggest crypto currency in the world, until a new crypto currency comes wich will have more support and more users than bitcoin we will still prefer bitcoin.
It's not exactly comparable, the analogy of the "first this or that". It will never be the same after Bitcoin, it solved too many unseen things and the protocol can and will adapt anything as needed. No coin will ever surpass BTC, it is what it is.
