Does somebody change thermal paste on chips ?
How work after do it ?
 Wink

mixed results at best.

if you read this thread and others you can find info on it.

the biggest heatsink issue is 2 screws not 4

the repasting of the chips does not help much.

I would think really good pads are better.

but frankly underclock the gear to 1250gh solves over heating pretty much every time

Still waiting on my order.

Put in a batch 2 order on the 29th of sept

I got pillaged by them on this.

I had 2 batch ones and they went from 4850 to 4400.  So I delayed the batch 2 order.

I spent 2 days fixing the error.  Posted a detailed fix on site that helped dozens of miners with the issue.

I asked them to give me back my coupon on the batch 2 as the order was not paid.  I wanted to switch to batch three.

They said no they won't issue a new coupon.

But that I could buy the batch 2.

I did.  They have not shipped the batch 2 and have shipped dozens of batch 3's out.

To make things worse coins shifted.  So I could have had a batch 3 cheaper then I paid the batch 2.

So I lost over .9btc on the price shift  and  they have yet to ship.

All because I spent the time to fix my gear and post a how to.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1196671.0

For the rest of us.  I don't mind the price shift it happens.  I do mind they refused to issue a replacement coupon that would have allow me to switch to batch three.

Now to be fair they did give me a review s-5 last year. So I  guess its a push.

I am disappointed with the lack of respect shown to me in this case.

I think we had a survey of failed SP-tech kit that showed failures were extremely rare. They occur, sure but its not like you can just say the above dogie without a caveat.
That wasn't a real survey or any measure of failed equipment, that was Guy paying for a list of frilly questions like:
  • Is the most trusted?
  • Has the best firmware?
  • Has the best support?
  • Cares most about its customers? [lol]
  • Is the most professional and pays its debts?
  • Would you buy from next
  • Gives value for money
  • Hardware performs to your satisfaction

Other reasons why don't get as many failed reports as you otherwise would:
  • When you have a problem you email Zvi, who emails internally to order a replacement. There is just no fixing those things once they go bad so no point posting.
  • 20-40x less individual customers than Bitmain (which you're comparing them to) so even with the same failure rate you get 20-40x fewer reports.

Who did Guy pay for this?

He gave a 2 btc gift to wiki in my name for the survey Dogie mentioned.

I did do a few failed equipment surveys later (my dime my time)   and sp-tech  440 sp20's was about  working and under 20 failed .  corrected below

I could find that link to it:

this is the follow up survey final numbers

"so of the 313  looks like 291 still run  and 22 needed parts from sp-tech or run a bit less then then should or are dead"

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1106042.msg11769009#msg11769009

My opinion of the sp20 is it was okay it was really a 900 to 1300 gh miner.

It should of had a controller save.  The s-5 could double up and do 4 boards.

The s-7 can do 9 boards.

My biggest fear of an sp50 is a dead controller = 110th offline = bad

I am usa based.    the server psu does 2 s-3's easy

I got it for free so I can sell it at a low cost  the seller sold them out.  he charged 110 on sale 130 not on sale.

you need to be usa based.

10-19-2015   167 blocks made    +23         so + 33 blocks

10-20-2015   127 blocks made     -17.  so + 16  blocks

sorry, went to beijing to meet avalon and bitmain for 3 days and donot visit forum during this time
...

Hi pcfli,

what news do you have from Avalon?

Regards.

spiccioli

As a matter of fact, i have ordered 3P hashrate from avalon, they told me they will ship them to me on 31th Oct. but i think it is hard for them to keep the word, as their chip still on the way to factory until yesterday.
however, it is not easy to sell avalon miner to your guys because they use one raspberrypi to control 60 unit miner=60*3.5=210T. so i prefer to sell those avalon as cloud mining hashrate.

I would be interested in this.

BTW if you wanted to you could split them and add the raspberrypi as an extra cost.  But it would mean a lot more wires and switches.

I ran 3x   4.1's   on one rasp pi worked out well for me.

You would need to do 3 units or more   maybe 5 units or more.
34689  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] mmpool.org - 1.5% fee DGM/PPS - tx fees/vardiff/merge mine/tor on: October 25, 2015, 01:14:51 AM
What a nice pool is MMPOOL.org merge mining six other major coins ... I wonder why is not more popular : ))

It's unpopular because if you own expensive mining gear you cannot take the chance of joining a pool which only finds a block once in a few weeks, or in severe cases even longer. It's all about variance, so if MMpool had 10 times its current hash rate, it would still be too small for big miners.

it did a lot better until it was subject to ddos for months causing a lot of stability issues.

we were doing 300th which was fine. now we do under 50th and up to 100th
34690  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Should websites refuse to send coins to an already used address? on: October 25, 2015, 12:44:04 AM
I think most of us know that address reuse is a bad idea and it's better to use a unique one for every transactions to avoid security and privacy issues. If a website owner accepts bitcoin deposits and a user wants to withdraw coins to an address which was already used in the past, should there be a warning or even an error message or would that be too annoying for the user?

I'm curious about your opinions!

I don't want to be anonymous so I use the same address. Over and over and over.

Can you explain to me how this is harmful?

Don't tell me if everyone did this no one would be anonymous as that is not particularly harmful.  IMO

I want  a public repeatable addy.

I realize I can have a wallet with hundreds of addy's if I want or I can use one over and over and over if I want.

I suppose some people want to remain hidden via changing of addresses so let them change every time.  Or let them have a common address that repeats over and over and over plus a set of hidden multi addresses.
34691  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Running a 16 Pins S5 blade in a 18 Pins controller? on: October 24, 2015, 11:28:21 PM
So i asked previously in the S5 thread but received no replies. I am wondering i anyone knows the answer to this?;

Quote
So, i'm wondering, is the 16 pins pinout otherwise the same as the 18 pins. In short i'm wondering about running a 16pins blade into a 18pins controller safely. I'm pretty sure i read somewhere that it was done, can't find it now, so i'm wondering on how to do it safely.

Anyone knows?

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Smiley

I seem to recall a post saying it works. As to finding it I think it is on the big s-5 thread.

34693  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Free electricity on: October 24, 2015, 05:20:21 PM
Hello

I know a bit about bitcoin
I have free electricity. So is it worth mining ? if yes how should I start ?
Thank you

free power = faster return on investment.

An s-3 doing 480 gh at free power earns close to 30 usd a month.

So if you buy 2 you earn close to 60 usd a month.  coins are up so they cost more then last month

the cheapest I see on on ebay is 110 with shipping

so 2 plus a power supply = about 300

and you would have your money back in 5 months.

34697  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: October 24, 2015, 01:28:01 PM
70db is dissapointing . when i get one i will see if i can tweak it.

i am willing to try 3000gh rather then 3600 my hope would be to get better hash per watt.

if i get it do 800 watts and 55db i would be happy with it.
most of the noise is caused by the server PSU if you use say corsair gold series type it would be much quitter Wink no need to tweek :p

"tweak I must" said phil to the blockhunter " for tweaking be in my genes".

Got to toy with the gear.
Exactly, fan modding is honestly a passion mixing that with under clocking I love (and need) to get all my miners quiet or my wife will kill me.

my one s-7 is well controlled sound wise.

I can run 3 s-7's with good sound control.

especially with a slight underclock freq 581 and fans at 30

How long does it take to buy BTC on coinbase?
Looked like a week.

I have a 1000 usd instant purchase

and a 50000 usd 3 business day wait

so I buy the 1000 instant and then buy   the slower coin.  The 1000 instant once used rebuilds from 0 to 1000 in 7 days.

I have been with coinbase for 20 months maybe 22 months
