3501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you received a call/text recently from a friend/fam asking about Bitcoin? on: November 06, 2020, 07:48:06 AM
I don't and I prefer not to.

To be honest, in our family I'm the only one who knows Bitcoin and I don't like to share it to them for some reasons. One is that instead of learning it, they will just ask Bitcoins to me so in short they will ask money for me instead of learning it themselves which is for me I don't like the most. Another one is that most of my family members aren't that literate in financial things and I don't have capability to teach them and last is they are not interested into investments and assets base on my experience.
I had the same conversation with my parents back then, they discouraged any financial endeavors I want to take. If they ever ask about bitcoin though, I will just tell them what I know and refer them to the resources that I have used to grow my knowledge about bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general.
3502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Recommend some books about investing please! on: November 06, 2020, 07:13:43 AM
There isn't a lot of book or virtually none yet but books about investing will help you the same way, do not go too far on books published by successful people though, it might work different for you. Consider their advice not follow them. You can learn a lot with books about the technicalities of investing more than testimonials in my opinion. While you are at it, buy a book about financial literacy, it will help you in the long run.
3503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: State-Issued Digital Currencies - Why do you need to sell all your bitcoin on: November 06, 2020, 06:31:18 AM
Like all the others have already said, CBDC will not kill bitcoin. It is just a way to make the inflation go at a normal pace, CBDC is a solution to inflation because of money printing and the expense of money printing, it is not advertised to kill crypto or bitcoin for that matter. It might be an experiment on the side but it will not kill bitcoin in my opinion. There must be articles circulating about CBDC's to provide more information.

Not all of these examples are bad. Trust fund is a good idea, donating money to a serious cause is also something that deserves appreciation. As for the family, I think I'd share some money with the closest relatives, but giving it all to people with their loans does not make sense. I'd buy a flat (I'm currently renting, I don't have my own apartment) and maybe one more for lease, save about 10% of the money for studying and travelling, put about 50% into a scholarship for bright students from my country who are admitted to top universities abroad and require small additional financial assistance to go there (I was in this situation, so I want to help out those who'd also be in it), give about 30% to my relatives who could use this money. This is a plan for about $1 million. If it's more than that, I'd spend the first million as mentioned above, and put the rest of the money into opening a good private university in my country (with scholarships for the smartest and those who need them most, of course). I don't want to be rich per se, so in case I get lots of money, I want to spend it on something that matters (for me it's education).
Well, I said in my post that we could learn something from them too. I do agree that they did good with some of their money but the tragedy and misery that follow except for the Canadian outweighs the good things that they did to their winnings. In my opinion, I will not help anyone at first because it will be a slippery slope, I would first organize the money and then allot some of it to what is essential for me, then give 30% of the remaining to charity and family and closest friends, I do not care if they call me greedy, where were they when I was in need.
3505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An Indian boy committed suicide after losing money by Betting in IPL on: November 06, 2020, 03:36:42 AM
I felt bad for that boy. Honestly gambling should be just for entertainment and shouldn't be use in hopes to get a good profit for a living, I hope this should raise an awareness to all gamblers that don't gamble if you cannot afford to lose your money.
I do not think gambling is the sole reason that the kid committed suicide, this might have been the catalyst for that. A public advisory to everyone feeling depression or generally loneliness, seek your local psychiatrist or talk to someone you can trust, do not do activities that elicit negative emotions like gambling where a loss can trigger regret. Your future may look bleak but if you talk to the right person, perspective will change.
3506  Other / Off-topic / Re: Space Debris: A Subtle Way to Doom Humanity on: November 06, 2020, 02:55:57 AM
I doubt space debris can doom humanity, it's not like we have an urgency to leave this planet, nor we have the technology to actually do so. At worst, this problem will set back our space exploration and technologies that rely on satellites. But we'll also probably figure something out, I know there already are some proposals how can we clear these debris from the orbit. Or maybe new materials will allow spacecrafts easily withstand impact of space debris.
Okay, it may not be the one that will cause the doom of humanity, it will be a catalyst though, you see if the LEO is completely impenetrable to do deep space missions, the prospect of space mining will be forgotten and the depleting resources on Earth will be subjected to disputes between that will inevitably cause a war, the wars might be small but it will slowly doom us when it becomes a war for resources. New materials are very expensive, in my opinion, it is better if they create a solution of clearing it.
3507  Economy / Economics / Re: Pandemic: good for the bitcoin market or bad? on: November 05, 2020, 09:39:16 AM
This pandemic is very good for the bitcoin market, it is proven that currently, the price is rising so fast I think the current market is in a positive condition and the volume is getting higher. Not only that, the attractiveness of investors is getting bigger at this time of the pandemic, bitcoin is increasingly known and is the center of attention today.
If you were to ask the right person in regards to topic, they will say that it depends. The quote above shows that the person might already have a bitcoin hold and the prices rising right now is a good thing for that person. If you are new and it is your first time in buying bitcoin then this is not the good time for you. The second statement might be half truth though because you might hitch right now and luckily you have gained a profit because the market is volatile, we will never know when will it go up or down. The final decision is up to you, it is your money that you are going to invest after all.
3508  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] xlux is planning to launch an HYIP soon on: November 05, 2020, 08:14:45 AM
Flag supported, lets hope that no newbie falls for this scam and ends up sending their entire ethereum stash to the accused hoping to generate free money on the go by doing nothing.

For any bamboozled newbie reading this - If it was so easy to get 8ETH by depositing 10ETH there would no longer be any poverty in this world. But that is not happening, so use your common sense here to know what is true and what is not.
Saw this kinds of scam flying around the forum. Saw many have fallen for this kind of scheme although not crypto related, the business or should I say scam model is the same as any of this. If someone ever falls for this because this is obvious then I do not know what to say but this should be a lesson and suck it up.
3509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Negative House Edge Crypto Casino on: November 05, 2020, 06:43:46 AM
The offer is too good to be true for a negative house edge to maintain a profit. How do you plan to create a profit when the games at your casino are in favor of the players. That is opposite what a businessman should do, thinking about favoring the interest of their customers. The business model that you are proposing will be unsavory to your investors, and in my opinion, it will not work unless you do some questionable underhanded tactics. If you say that you will put negative house edge and then putting it back to a positive house edge, then as a gambler, I would just wait it out. If that exploit is done by a lot of the players, it will break the business within months.
3510  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: TOP 10 Lottery Winner Losers on: November 05, 2020, 06:02:44 AM
I have a neighbor that has same faith with these winners,Back in 2006 when they won a local lottery in which valuing about 400k dollars now(in which Huge Money in my country) .

What the family Did is bought a luxurious House and cars,Live in very High End style of living.

After 4 years they end up going back to where they started and now?stays here again n our place with really burden living.

Opportunity only knock once same as Luck so better live a better or else this will gone.
This is not uncommon occurence with lottery winners, in fact there is a book that documents the life of the people after winning the lottery. There is a research that also shows that most interviewed lottery winners felt miserable after their win. I feel bad for them but most of the time, their actions are kind of their fault too.
3511  Economy / Economics / Re: Working plans for uneducated unemplyement people in USA on: November 05, 2020, 05:24:06 AM
The problem with the current situation in US in regards to unemployment is that most jobs are outsourced by companies in other countries that pays lower wages, if they make a move about that then I think they could arrive in an answer. They also should address their problems with the pandemic as this is the biggest factor right now that causes the spike in unemployment rates in their country. They also should increase minimum wages so workers can be motivated to work to their best of abilities which yields better results in product produced by the workers.
3512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: my situation with bitcoin how it helped me real use case today on: November 05, 2020, 04:35:15 AM
Good for you experiencing the wnders of decentralized currency. I had mine a while back, really needed the money to buy some necessity, banks are intimidating for a student like me. The wonders of bitcoin never stops to amaze me, I am currently saving to have funds for trading and investing. There are transaction fees though, but this is not an inconvenience as the fees in my country is minimal and not that eyebrow raising because they are transparent with their transaction.
3513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think is the biggest disadvantage of bitcoin? on: November 05, 2020, 03:53:18 AM
The biggest problem for me is the volatility of the bitcoin prices. The fees could be the second but it can be regulated. Volatility on the other hand is the biggest disadvantage because it can discourage potential investors when they look at the prices all through the years. We can control this although, it takes a whale to do that kind of control which is close to impossible.
3514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I accept Bitcoin for payments on my online store? on: November 05, 2020, 03:08:45 AM
The more payment methods, the better. Although, I don't think that anyone is going to buy with bitcoin currently. You realize that he/she has to pay product's price + ~$7 in order to get the transaction quickly confirmed. If the fee was much lower I would suggest adding it.
It will help the business if there are more payment options. I do think that even if no one takes a look at it, you still need to add it in because you might never know when it will come handy. You will also feel good that you are contributing to the adoption of cryptocurrency in the mainstream market.
3515  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: TOP 10 Lottery Winner Losers on: November 05, 2020, 01:13:07 AM
what a tragedy. some(maybe all) of these people probably thought they have finally got out of the hard life but then ending up getting killed or sued or being used by someone.
sometimes it is hard to argue with the logic of "money is the root of all evil"

It's not clear for me why some on the list become loser while they are just being misfortune on there life like being murdered or being charge for false accusation. The word "Unfortunate" is more appropriate than losers because they didn't waste there money when they are alive.
-snip
I thought so too. some of this is just tragedy and out of the winner's control.
I did not make the list. Maybe if I have the time someday, I will do a more in depth searching regarding this lottery winners that blew all their money within their control. That was my thought too when I saw the list for the first time, I think it is appropriate word for them because it contradicts the word winner.
3516  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why most of us are losing money in sports betting? on: November 04, 2020, 11:18:44 AM
managing your bankroll well would be really helpful if you want to minimize your losses try just to bet with small amount the risk is low but also the profit is small but at least you still have a profit.
I would like to add that you also should bet on the teams where you know the performance of each player and its coach. You also should know that odds will not be on your favor unless you are a bookie. Do not bet a lot in games, remember that once you lose, the money that comes with it will also lose, this helps you to psychologically trick your mind to regret spending that amount of money in betting which could result in you minimizing the amount you are betting. If avoidable, try to go to for physical sports betting instead of online, assuming that you also gamble with fiat, this helps you to also mitigate the money that you will lose because you will see the physical manifestation of your bet via cash instead of numbers in a website.
3517  Other / Off-topic / Re: Space Debris: A Subtle Way to Doom Humanity on: November 04, 2020, 10:10:36 AM
And with the Starlink deployment on low-earth orbit, Kessler syndrome might proved to be true although several self-navigational instruments are surely inside every one of these satellites to ensure that no such collisions will happen--or at least minimize the risk of it from happening. This is actually one facet in the economy that is almost often looked over. With the advancement of humanity towards digitalization of almost everything, people would need to be connected to the internet at all times and as such, low-earth orbit satellites providing internet connectivity on rural areas is a growing industry, spearheaded mostly by Elon Musk and his company Starlink.
Low Earth Orbit(LEO) space debris are the most problematic because they are nearest which means most booster and defunct space parts are thrown around this orbit which if not addressed immediately will eventually become a virtual prison that will block possible space mission past the LEO. If the problem is not addressed, Starlink will be a disaster in epic proportions. Good thing is they are formulating solution to specifically address this subtle problem.
3518  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: TOP 10 Lottery Winner Losers on: November 04, 2020, 08:33:26 AM
This is what happens when you earned a sudden wealth without having knowledge or experience of handling a huge amount of money properly. You could give someone a million dollars and watch it be gone in a few days, but give some who knows how to manage money properly and watch it grow to millions in a few years. Sometimes earning a sudden wealth can lead to your demise, there was once an incident in our country where a lottery winner got murdered the next day when he claimed his prize.
There is an actual term for this called Sudden Wealth Syndrome and yes it is pretty debilitating if you do not know what to do with all this money. There are a lot of documented cases about this spanning from lottery winners to investors around the world. Your story just proves that greed can take you a long way and make you do things even if the consequences outweigh the reward at hand. As long as humans do not learn of contentment, greed will forever be present.
3519  Other / Meta / Re: Should confirmed scammers lose the ability to send PM? on: November 04, 2020, 07:54:07 AM
Yeah it might be a good idea if a user has a trust flag and at least 10 more supporters than opposers on it...

But can't newbies pm newbies so they could just make a new account?
It will definitely create an influx of newbie accounts. I do not think that this is the cure-all solution, my solution would be IP banning if that is possible. Most games that I play do this when they detect cheaters in their game, it is pretty effective because the rate of cheater drastically gone down. Although in this case, it will be different, I do not know much about the administrative functions in this forum so I do not know if it is entirely possible at all.
3520  Other / Off-topic / Space Debris: A Subtle Way to Doom Humanity on: November 04, 2020, 07:24:47 AM
Space debris by Wikipedia definition are defunct human-made objects in space—principally in Earth orbit—which no longer serve a useful function. This is not something that anyone should worry about but this problem could affect everyone around the world. A lot of projects are created to solve this problem specifically and hopefully we can solve this subtle problem with catastrophic effects. There are a lot of sectors that will be affected if this problem if we just let space debris accumulate in our orbit but for the sake of the board I am posting we are focusing on economic repercussions. Most of the repercussions listed are indirects effects.

  • Space debris move at orbital speed which means that a fleck of paint can destroy an entire satellite which in turn creates another space debris, this is known as Kessler Syndrome. This will cause for the increase of spending of a nation towards its space program or the other way, closing other space programs which will lead to unemployment and a halt to research in regards to cosmos.
  • With satellites being destroyed by space debris, communications will be damaged. As we all know in business, information is the key. With a lot of delayed calls or failure in connection establishment. I can’t imagine the money that will be lost but if this problem is not solved, this could set us back to radio and telephone tower era where the speed is a little slower than what businesses are used to.
  • Most advances in military technology pretty much uses the cosmos to their advantage, with a totally destroyed space due to space debris, this technology will be obsolete resulting into a waste of funds and resources.
  • The growth of space industry will be the most affected which was projected to grow to a trillion dollar industry, this could spell bad for investors and the country with their funds blown in the air because of space debris
  • If the nation chose to protect the satellites from space debris then this could set them back to because it is expensive

This list might not be an accurate effects of space debris in economy as they are my own words and most of it is formulated from what I have read and watched about the implications of space debris. Here are some of the articles that I have read about the topic. This problem is not that scary if you see that space agencies of different countries are proactively searching for a solution that is both effective and economical.
