The next best thing to do is for high-ranking accounts to avoid commenting in the thread whatsoever. The accounts persistently commenting in the thread have only a handful of merits between them and hardly any bumping power. If everybody else refrained from commenting there, it would gradually fall into obscurity where it belongs.

I think that's the responsible thing to do for anyone who wants to minimize them without cutting them out completely. Just let them habitate their space here with their feverish walls of text and let them out themselves as the dishonest fools that they are...

What "happened to Trump" was that he lost the election, by several million votes and several dozen electoral college votes. That happened. Trump's election was a symptom of underlying problems that need to be addressed; mainly wealth inequality is rising at ever-increasing rates, and life is getting harder for the average U.S. citizen despite the fact that this is the wealthiest nation in the history of the planet... and this has a side effect of making people more mentally or emotionally susceptible to believing in whackjob conspiracies because it gives them an enemy to fight against, however invisible or fictional it may be.

But rather than working together to actually attempt to change the system, we fight among ourselves, ignoring the actual problems, to me the biggest of which is lobbyists and corporate influence in politics.
