3522  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin documentary is playing on international flights on: March 04, 2015, 05:11:25 PM
No kidding? Wow!

3523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cannot Succeed (heres why) on: March 04, 2015, 05:05:37 PM
It's funny to see a thread stating that bitcoin "cannot succeed" after it already has. Heck, I remember seeing threads saying "Bitcoin CAN NOT EVER be worth $1USD!".  Cheesy
3524  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scientific proof that God exists? on: March 04, 2015, 05:01:10 PM
For me, as long as ...

The word "evidence" comes from its base "evident."

If a proponent of one thought has one piece of evidence, and the proponent of the opposite thought has a thousand pieces of evidence, which one would seem to be the more correct thought?

Intentionally ignoring evidence isn't the same thing as there being no evidence.

The extreme numbers of evidences for God are found in nature all around us. They are found in the evidence that nature is a machine, that machines have makers, and that the machines of nature are way beyond us. These things show that God exists.

There are more ways to make the evidences more evident, but these are the only ones that are really needed. The only other possibility regarding scientific proof for God is ignorance. That's it. It is self-evident.

Smiley
But it is in no way evident to me? There is no logical inference in that argument. Because nature is a machine? Who says that and what about our ability to make machines, are we all Gods? As stated before in this thread if you have any logical evidence you can publish it and have it reviewed. That's how science works, you must show the evidence. Biologists have completed thousands and thousands of experiment to demonstrate the logic of evolution. But not one single experiment has ever demonstrated a contradiction.
3525  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fair Price of Bitcoin: $518? on: March 04, 2015, 04:48:10 PM
I don't quite understand how people think that Bitcoin is worth more than what you can buy it for at any given time.  I just think of say like a gas station, if they said, well actually the gas price is 3 dollars more than what is posted outside, we are going off speculation here, how many people would actually pay that?  They wouldn't, they would go to the next gas station forcing that gas station to lower its price.  Just like Bitcoins.  No one is going to buy for that much when they can buy for half the cost of it.  Thus the speculation will have to change.

You sir "get it". If you can't sell a bitcoin for $518 then it is not worth $518. Unless someone wants to prove me wrong and buy bitcoins from me at $518? I'll do up to a few hundred BTC if your interested?
3526  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scientific proof that God exists? on: March 04, 2015, 04:38:35 PM
For me, as long as the evidence for God is identical to the evidence for unicorns, mermaids, and leprechauns I see no reason to believe it. It may just be a difference in how we view the world. I don't believe in things on faith. It takes evidence to convince me. I also don't start with an assumption that must be true no matter what the facts say. An assumption like "My God simply has to exist".

This sort of thinking is called superstition. Facts challenge superstitions and force a decision. One can examine the facts and follow them to the truth, even if you don't like it. Or you can double down and ignore facts. Typically a threatened person will first attack the facts. When that becomes impossible the attacks switch to science itself. Weird considering we use science to solve almost all our problems today. No other philosophy has yielded so much fruit or changed the world more, yet for many recognizing Gods absence in the workings of the universe means considering that their entire concept of reality could be false.  Not everyone can be that honest with themselves.
3527  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC GOING UP WOT SHOULD I DO on: March 04, 2015, 02:50:53 PM
What you should do is stop asking other people who also have no idea. You may get a lot of confident answers, but these are guesses. There is no way to determine the future. The more important question is "What do you think?". If you think it's going to rise then buy some. It's a bet so don't sell your house, but try it out as a payment system and maybe you will be able to spend more value than you bought.

Asking the price next week is like asking if you will need an umbrella on a day 6 months from now.
3528  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fair Price of Bitcoin: $518? on: March 04, 2015, 02:44:29 PM
The market disagrees. And since only the market counts, the price is about $280 at this point.
3529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin In School Curriculum on: March 03, 2015, 09:25:11 PM
I have used it in lessons with my students. It was not hard for the kids, they never say the computer is hard to understand.

That is very cool.

So, where did you start in your lesson?

Bitcoin History?
Bitcoin Concept?
what?

I did a thing on how supply and demand works. It was not so much a bitcoin lesson but used bitcoin as an example. The kids tracked prices and did math based on that. They may be asked to "determine what percentage change has taken place this week?" Or "what is the ratio of buyers to seller right now?"

They loved it. Next time I'm going to give them some and do something with smart spending. Maybe even divide the money among them based on their test scores. (I'm still on the fence about this, I don't really like tests or even grades.)
3530  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scientific proof that God exists? on: March 03, 2015, 09:13:43 PM
Which god did science prove exists?

SPOILER ALERT:
The one you happen to believe in. What luck!  Roll Eyes
3531  Economy / Speculation / Re: dump is happening on: March 03, 2015, 08:57:34 PM

3532  Other / Off-topic / Re: Reads to me like an inside job to steal $4.8M in gold. on: March 03, 2015, 08:46:25 PM
Yeah, something is very fishy about the fact that they had "mechanical problems". The detectives are going to want to know a lot more about that.
3533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Third Auction For Ulbricht’s Coins, Scheduled on: March 03, 2015, 08:40:58 PM
This is going to crash the price hard...
Oh, I'm not so sure. That has not been the pattern with other sales. It does make sense because you are increasing supply, however it may be that the buyers at the auction are different than exchange buyers. I think these auctions appeal to a buyer who wants a lot of coins and has no patients for the risk and complexity of exchanges.
3534  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin price is going up now. Why? what going on? i need 411 please. on: March 03, 2015, 08:34:29 PM
Maybe China un-banned bitcoin.  Cheesy
3535  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think Buffett was right? on: March 03, 2015, 08:30:58 PM
He also said it could not be trusted because "this Satoshi guy" could have hidden something in the code to steal your coins. Warren Buffet does not know dick about bitcoin. Why would he?
3536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin v. Bitcoin on: March 03, 2015, 08:25:58 PM
There is only bitcoin. 99% of alt coins are pointless and sometimes outright scams. Litecoin is one of the only alts with any merit. I did not predict it, but it has caught on to some extent.
3537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin on wall street journal font page on: March 03, 2015, 06:57:03 PM
... and then you win.  Wink
3538  Economy / Speculation / Re: dump is happening on: March 03, 2015, 06:55:28 PM
Maybe he means that people are dumping fiat? That is what I see today at the exchanges. Huh
3539  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Putin Critic Shot Dead at Kremlin on: March 03, 2015, 06:45:57 PM

Now back to facts.

Spokesperson for the Investigation committee, Markin, said that investigation is made difficult by all the info-war desinformation floating around. He further said that any official information regarding this case will come from the Investigation Committee, the rest is hearsay.
http://ria.ru/incidents/20150303/1050701302.html

That is what you call a fact in Russia? An official told you that only the official facts are true and everyone else must be lying? Dude you live in a dictatorship.
3540  Economy / Speculation / Re: The train is leaving... to the MooOoOooOoOOOONnn on: March 03, 2015, 06:38:34 PM
Just as the "Price is going to zero!!!" threads are ill advised, so are these "Mo0N!!" threads.
