no admin ever said "forbidden".

I don't know how many time it's been said, and how many more time it will take before you understand: Scams are not moderated, and neither are reviews.  Administration will not ban a signature just because some of us (or all of us) feel it's a scam.  It's up to us, the community to protect ourselves from scams.

The only reason theymos banned the Yobit signature earlier in 2019 is because it was not managed, and resulted in endless spam.  That created a lot of work for the mods, which was not fair to the forum staff.

Administration will not step in and prevent you from being red-tagged if you keep promoting them.  If you keep waiting for the admin to make your decisions for you, you'll be waiting a long time.  Like maybe, for ever.
3542  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk.org is DEATH on: January 03, 2020, 05:26:24 PM
Yobit is a scam exchange.
Is that what all this is really about?  I think I recall something about this whole drama starting because of Yobit's campaign, but it got so out of hand so quickly that I almost forgot about that aspect of it completely.  And by the way, I've always said Yobit wasn't a scam exchange, but I'm starting to see things a bit differently after their whole "investbox" push.  That thing looks sketchy as hell.

I wouldn't say that's all it's about.  Wolwoo drew attention to himself with his trust list by including members who have legitimate red-tags, and by being very nationalistic with his inclusions.  Then he applied to become a merit source, and seemed to become frustrated with the lack of support for his application.  He was also one of the very few to apply the InvestBox signature to this profile.  Whenever he was criticized he lashed back with anger and insults.  I'd say this is a culmination of all of those things.
3543  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum online or offline? on: January 03, 2020, 04:45:29 PM
Now I currently testing it by sending a small about to another wallet. I should know within a couple hours if it worked.

You should know within a few seconds.  Once a transaciton has been signed (sent) Electrum will display the transaction ID for you.  On the history tab you'll see the transaction and it's progress.  You can also right-click on the transaction in the history tab, and select "view on block explorer."

1. Does it matter weather or not we leave our wallets from Electrum open after downloading, or should they remain closed when not in use?

Electrum is a client that reads, displays, and communicates with the blockchain.  The blockchain is the actual ledger that confirms coins and transactions.  Your wallet addresses can accept funds at anytime, regardless of whether your wallet software is running or not.  Once your software has signed a transaction, the blockchain handles the rest.  You don't need the software to continue running for the transaction to confirm.

2. I know it recommends storing Electrum on another device not connecting on-line...But until I'm able to get another device to put in on, is it still ok to use going on and off line?

I have my "Hot" wallet installed on a PC that's always online.  If you are confident your computer isn't compromised by malware or viruses, and safe from intruders, you'll be fine.  If you want to set up a "cold" wallet, I suggest you use a computer that's had a fresh OS installed, and only Electrum installed and nothing else.  Once updated and secure, disconnect the computer from the internet, create your cold wallet seed, copy the extended master public key so you can use it to create a watch-only wallet, then digitally shred the hard-drive.

3. Lastly, if I'm sending bitcoin to an onion site through (tor) instead, should I or do I need to do anything differently?

You don't send bitcoin to a website, you send it to a bitcoin address.  Bitcoin addresses are bitcoin addresses, regardless of where they came from.  Tor or clearnet have nothing to do with it.
3544  Economy / Reputation / Re: Outdated token, Escrow faking - Telegram awareness on: January 03, 2020, 04:19:40 PM
Looks like except him (his message) the other messages from other users are working. I can see their userID and stuffs but for this scammer it always returns my information.

Can anyone confirm that they are also facing this experience?

I get the same results.  It returns my information when I forward this accounts messages to the bot.  I tried to forward archived messages from deleted accounts, and I get the same results.  It might be that he has us blocked, and that's a privacy feature the bot uses to prevent abuse or stalking.
3545  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk.org is DEATH on: January 03, 2020, 03:47:14 PM
Stop trying to defend it, it's not helping you.  You need to accept it for what it is.  Yobit is a scam exchange.  They are the worst kind of scam exchange because we don't have sufficient irrefutable evidence to prove it, but they are trying real hard to provide it.  It's just a matter of time before they pull an exit scam, but in the mean time they'll use their "InvestBox" to dupe as many suckers as they can.  They are not good for the crypto economy, and I refuse to support them.  Many people who'be been here a lot longer than me have similar opinions, because they've seen it before.  You're not going to convince anyone otherwise.

As for you wearing the signature, I don't care.  Obviously your income is important to you, more so than preventing a shitty exchange from scamming people.  That's your prerogative.  You can wear bitconnect's signature for all I care.  But don't expect me to value your judgement if you continue to do so.
3546  Other / Meta / Re: IS GIVING RED-TRUST THAT NON-EXPLANATORY ? on: January 03, 2020, 03:33:34 PM
Want to know how I can tell that your arguments are breaking down?  It's easy; you start to sound a lot like cryptohunter.

You never answered my question. If I am to perform what is arguably a public service of dispute mediation, exactly what do I need to meet your fine and arbitrary standards

I acknowledge that my standards are mine and mine alone, they do not necessarily reflect the position of the forum, forum administration, forum staff, moderators, any other DT1 members.  Hell, they don't reflect the thoughts of anyone but me.  Got it?  Good.

1. Don't be a dick.
2. Don't pad your trust list to boost your own trust score.
3. Don't expect trust list reciprocation.
4. Don't use the trust list for retaliation.

And finally; the only one that really matters:
5. Demonstrate good judgement, good character, and restraint.
3547  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk.org is DEATH on: January 03, 2020, 03:18:00 PM
@wolwoo, I understand your frustration, and being forced to make these arguments in English is probably adding to your frustration.  But anger isn't going to help you convince anyone that you are right.  In fact most will likely see it as immature, and choose to side against you as a result.  It's unappealing, and won't convince anyone.

I tend to agree that tagging someone for wearing Yobit's current signature isn't a good use of the trust system.  But I also understand why YOU were tagged and not others.  When Yobit tried to peddle their "InvestBox" pump and dump scheme using the forum's members, you defended them.  You tried to convince everyone that it's okay to promote what is an obvious scam, designed to look like an investment.  By doing so you lost credibility with me, and probably anyone who's seen this type of scam attempt before.

3548  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum online or offline? on: January 03, 2020, 02:51:27 AM
Only download Electrum from this site: https://electrum.org/#download

You should also download the corresponding signature file, and verify it.  Instruction on how to do that can be found here: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/

After installing and while creating a new wallet, make sure to carefully write down your recovery phrase, and store it in a safe place.  For "off-line" storage you'll want to use an air-gapped computer, and reformat it when your done.
3549  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Brand New Electrum Wallet is empty on: January 03, 2020, 01:32:39 AM
He probably sent the BCH to his bitcoin address, but once sent Coinbase translates the address to the BCH standard.  That address also looks like it received a little BSV on December 12.
3550  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Brand New Electrum Wallet is empty on: January 03, 2020, 01:20:09 AM
When I open up the transaction in coinbase, the "To" address looks nothing like the one I sent it to.

But, if I click on it (it's a link), it opens up blockchain.com and then displays the exact same address as my Electrum address.

FYI - I copy/pasted when I was transferring the bitcoins to be sure.

I am using Electrum version 3.3.8 downloaded from https://electrum.org/#download.

What's different about the addresses?  What do the addresses in your electrum wallet look like, do they start with a bc1, a 3 or a 1?

The link provided by Coinbase will send you to a block explorer, does it show the transaction has confirmations?

To be sure, do you want my Electrum "To" address?

I don't know the harm in sharing it.  Someone accidentally sending me money?

The only harm is disclosing how much coin you have.

belief is the adversary of knowledge.

Wow, the irony is thick in this post, I'm going to read it to my anemic neighbor.

Call in the clowns. Don't forget your red nose DireWolfM14.

Any chance of having a constructive discussion without stooping to CH level ad hominem attacks?  I would actually like to resolve all the DT1 infighting, but this type of discourse isn't helpful.

The accusation you are referring to here is first of all made by Nutilduhh who has a very long standing gripe stemming from their interactions with me not only involving the trust system but from discussions in Politics & Society.

Whether nutildah's post predated my conclusions or not is irrelevant.  I know it doesn't suit your argument, but I am capable of critical thought despite the influence of others.  Regardless of the chronology it's my opinion that nutildah has made a valid point.  You are manipulating and using the Turkish member to further your DT1 agenda and expand your influence.

Coincidentally, I have no issues with nutildah, and as far as I know he has none with me, despite the two of us being on opposite sides of the political spectrum.  Maybe your issues with nutildah aren't so much your politics, but how you debate them?  But I digress.

I am trying to help build a culture of restorative not punitive justice

This is a philosophy that I can totally stand behind when it comes to limiting governing power.  As a conservative minded person, the last thing I want to see is a Minority Report type of punitive system in place.  But this isn't Philadelphia in the late 1700's, and we're not the Constitutional Congress.  This is an internet forum with many successfully anonymous members, some of whom are scammers.

There isn't going to be any real justice if a guy shows up and makes wild claims of exorbitant ROIs if you invest in his cloud mining ponzi.  There is no "Justice System" in place here that can recoup the losses of the victims of such scammers.  How can there be a "restorative" system in these cases?  There's the old adage; an ounce of prevention...  That's the best we can do on this forum.

I'd like to believe I'm restrained when handing out negative reviews, and I hope all who are in the DT system also demonstrate thoughtful and cautious restraint.  There have been instances where the evidence was incomplete, yet I felt a warning to the community was warranted.  Those situations have been few.  If someone within the system doesn't show restraint I'll make a voting decision based on the value vs. detriment of allowing that person to remain on DT.  It's a difficult decision to make, and shouldn't be taken lightly.

To address the "punitive" part of your statement, what can possibly be done to someone on the internet that would be considered "punitive?"  There's no forum jail, or court system.  Most criminal scams that happen here aren't going to garner much attention from real-life law enforcement.  No one is going to jail for promoting LiveCoin, Yobit, or any other scammy exchange or ICO.  The only thing that's going to happen is a little red number shows up next to the scammer's (or "scammer's") name.  If you consider that punitive, well then, okay, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Why do I get the feeling like the OP is just shilling for IPFS and their shit-file-coin?

Am I being overly cynical, is it just me?  I did have to go back to work today after two weeks off, so maybe it's just me.

Yeah.  There's a connection.  So what

ROFLMAO!  So what, he says.  Would that be your (or CNN's) reaction if there was a "connection" between corrupt foreign energy companies and Don Jr.?

Your double standards are showing.
3555  Other / Meta / Re: My topic is not showing up on the Announcements thread. Why? Is it a bug ? on: January 02, 2020, 07:53:18 PM
Just FYI i think wee all remember a time when the post with the latest comment showed up first.

Just an FYI, I know I remember when the first pages of the affected boards were full of spam and scam attempts like yours.  For one, I'm glad your self-moderated scammy thread is buried on the third page, but I'd be happier if it never got posted at all.

I get your point, and understand your outrage.  But, I don't think that all the threads about CSW would be on topic if they were moved to the altcoin board.  Some are specific to reputation, and most are better kept in the scam accusations board.  Because BSV is a scam, and CSW is a lying POS scammer.

You'll find the British do not have an accent.

If that were true Greenwich wouldn't sound like grenich, Worcestershire wouldn't sound like worstasher, and I still don't how the fuck to pronounce Leicester...
3558  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Random Thoughts on: January 02, 2020, 06:40:01 PM
Quite an interesting discussion, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned the obvious;  As an American, my data is protected from unwarranted search and seizure by the 4th amendment, and as far as I know the Bill of Rights applies to everybody in the US, not just citizens.  Unless you've been placed on a watch-list, or provided some other "just cause" to be searched, I don't think anyone would blink an eye over a hard drive or a USB stick.

I rarely leave the country, but interestingly enough, I did travel to Thailand for a vacation last March.  I took my work laptop so I could support my company if they needed me for something, and in order to avoid huge downloads using slow hotel wifi, and even slower company VPN, I prepared an encrypted USB stick with my project files.  Nothing crazy, some CAD files and product specs for some new products we're making.  Some of the information qualifies as trade secrets, and since it's new products that haven't been released it was worth keeping the information secret.  Which is why I didn't want it on the laptop's drive, in case it got jacked.  I kept the USB stick in my pocket the whole time, and never even thought to disclose to TSA or customs that it was encrypted.

I had a layover in Taiwan on both legs of the trip, went through four customs checks, and never had anyone ask me what was on the disk.

It's also worth noting that my name probably draws attention (when airlines are concerned) and I do have copious amounts of facial hair.  I don't wear funny hats, so maybe that's why I was able to get away with it.
3559  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The Essential NFL Thread 🏈🏈 - new poll every week on: January 01, 2020, 07:31:29 PM
Happy New Year Essential NFL Thread Posters!

Happy new year to you and yours.

Here's the schedule / lines for the wildcard games:

Here are my predictions to cover, in bold:

BUFFALO
@HOUSTON -3
(Buffalo to cover, Houston to win.)

TENNESSEE
@NEW ENGLAND -5
(Tennessee to cover, Pats to win.)

MINNESOTA
@NEW ORLEANS -8

SEATTLE
@PHILADELPHIA +1
(Seattle to win)

For the poll I chose Seahawks/Eagles because its the closest matchup, with some books listing Philadelphia at -1. I haven't voted yet, gonna do a bit of research first. I'm leaning toward voting for the Seahawks but my mind is open to being changed.

I'm picking Seattle, but rooting for the Eagles.   Grin

I would rather see the Eagles in Santa Clara than Seattle AGAIN.  Unless Minnesota can pull off a miracle, that's what I see happening.

He's on a roll.  Now it's @whatsup221.

I reported the username to @NoToScam.  I don't know how, when, or if they'll do anything, but it's worth a shot.
