3581  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: August 19, 2020, 12:18:46 AM
3 days of testing a mining gear are useless, also some parts of the tests are far from fair, like the temperature test, it's plain stupid, such a test must be done with all fans set to static speed because these gears deal with the relationship between temperature - fans in different manners, so S19pro's fans might go to higher RPMs when the highest chip temp is over 60c while Whatsminer M30S+ might only do that when temps are over 70c, the same thing goes to the sound test, the way these tests were conducted is fairly poor IMO.

Anyway, all the information in that article are widely known among the mining community, it has always been this way.

Efficiency > Bitmain.
Stability and Robustness > MicroBtc and others.

Bitmain USED to have the best delivery standards (Not anymore), MicroBT's distributors have a bad reputation in that regards, also Bitmain gears have "custom firmware" so those who like to overclock/underclock the gears will prefer Bitmain since these firmware devs don't seem to pay much attention to non-bitmain gears.

But all in all MicroBT IMO makes better gears, this has been true at least since after the making of the S11 onwards.
3582  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T9+ restarts every 3-7 min; Blank Miner status/Hardware ver/BMminer ver on: August 18, 2020, 06:44:29 PM
It's very unlikely that one of the chips or heatsinks will lose contact to the hash board just from shipping, if you don't see obvious physical damage caused by mishandling of the package then the seller has probably sent you a broken unit, it might have not been done intentionally because testing refurbished gears isn't simple, you can solder the chip, glue the heatsink, test it for a few minutes and it works perfectly, send it do the client and it longer works as it should, obviously if they ran the miner much longer before sending it out it would have had the same issue you have now.

With that being said, T9+ is a very old gear, despite coming from the S9 era it isn't as robust and it gets way too hot, it's overclocked by default and most importantly it isn't a gear you want to own today.
3583  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitmain Antminer U2 being detected as U3 on: August 18, 2020, 01:51:42 AM
This is the right board to your question as far as the forum rules are concerned, although I doubt that you will find answers here because the guys who know too well about these USB miners don't hang around here too much.

I would say the best guy for this would be sidehack, you could probably send him a PM since he isn't very active in this 'mining support' section, or you might try to ask in this topic.

Alternatively, wait and hope that someone here has had these little toys and can help you out, sadly I was not around when these pod miners were a thing.
3584  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need advice/ sent a crypto to wrong address on Coinbase. on: August 17, 2020, 10:33:41 PM
Your strongest hope is what o_e_l_e_o mentioned, your last resort is 'luck', WBTC is listed on some major exchanges such as Bittrex and Bitfinex, so who knows? maybe one day in the future Coinbase decides to list the coin and it would magically show up in your balance, 12k is a lot of money and if you make some noise about it across all different social media platforms - you might get lucky enough.

3585  Economy / Services / Pine Script Developer Needed. on: August 17, 2020, 09:33:09 PM
I need someone to write a small Pine Script, if you have not worked with any Pine Script projects before but know enough about any other scripting language you could probably get the job done.

For more details on what Pine Script is please refer to this link

Send me a PM if you are interested, in the PM briefly explain your skills and if I think you can do the job I will send you the requirements.

I will probably pick a few people and then decide whom to hire.

I will not pay you anything upfront, you will need to send the script, I will check and see if it fulfills the requirements, and only then I will send you the payment.
3586  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: s9 problem on: August 17, 2020, 09:20:37 PM
It looks like you got your network settings mixed up, you have to reset the miner to the default settings.

Holding the IP report button doesn't reset the miner, it simply sends a new request to the DHCP table to get another IP, it's pretty much useless, to reset the miner it has to be powered off, and then you hold the IP report button BEFORE powering the miner on, hold that for a few seconds until you see the led flashes and then let go ( you want to keep pressing down on the IP report button throughout the whole process).

If this doesn't fix your issue, there are many other things to troubleshoot but overall this is a simple problem and can be easily fixed.
3587  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: t17+ with framework asic.to on: August 17, 2020, 08:10:15 PM
What do you mean by resetting it manually?

At which point do you get this output?

Code:
[2020/08/17 17:53:09] WARN: chain[1] - 0 of 44 chips detected
[2020/08/17 17:53:10] INFO: chain[0] - 44 chips detected
[2020/08/17 17:53:18] WARN: chain[2] - 24 of 44 chips detected

Anyway, to answer your question, you need to go

Miner Configuration > Chain Frequency settings

Notice that there are two "Chain Frequency settings" tabs, you want the second to the left, scroll down and set the voltage and frequency you want.

Before you do that I suggest you go to

Miner Configuration > Profile Setting

Go to Preset and chose a low-profile, let it run for about an hour and then see if that fix anything if not then simply disable the profile and go to Chain Frequency settings and set low-frequency on your chain 1 and 2 ( 0 seems to be fine showing 44 asics as it should).

Please note that your chances are slim to nothing, but it still worth the try.
3588  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Restore Bitmain Orginal Firmware Using Sd-card on: August 17, 2020, 07:53:28 PM
No, I was unsure if this was just for upgrading to a new Hieveon Firmware, or for all types of Firmware.
The Gear was not locked as SSH was possible.

It is most likely the average upgrade we have on all firmware including the stock firmware which allows you to flash any other firmware, and since SSH was not locked it simply means they don't lock your miners, so as for now - no negative feedback is required.

The thing is you should avoid SDXC and SDHC. SDHC might or might not work, they don't say it this clearly, but that is the sole reason. Not all controllers are SDHC capable, and of course there are no SD beyond 4gb (2gb is the usual max).

That is a good point, I ,however, had some SD cards that failed to flash some miners while a flash went through with SDHC, I don't recall trying or even owning any SDXC but I would guess it might not work, so all in all it all boils down to this.

As you noticed not all SD cards work. It's not always the size but a lot of times the brand or just the card itself. I have found that for some reason some miners just don't like some SD cards. Even within the same batch, you occasionally need a different card even though that card worked fine on the miner next to it.

Thanks for the tips.  Yeah... escrow is really cheap insurance compared to the cost of hardware if you don't know who you're dealing with.  I'll check out the "goods" section.  I haven't seen it before.  I'll find it.

Be aware that there are many scammers in the goods section, the forum doesn't moderate scam and scam isn't against the rules here, you want to avoid

1- Topics that are self-moderated
2- Members who have negative feedback/flags
3- Newbies who refuse to use a trusted forum Escrow.

It's also worth mentioning that using escrow also carries some risk, there are many impostors and you must confirm that you are talking to the right person.

On a side note, posting twice in a row within 24 hours is against the forum rules, you have 3 consecutive posts which need to be combined in 1 and the other 2 should be deleted.

3590  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: هل موقع Youteme.com نصاب ام يدفع on: August 17, 2020, 01:18:26 AM

I'm not making a nationalistic comment.  I'm just saying that experience has been better than my experience with American dealers/sellers.

I am not an "American Dealer" so I don't know how that feels, but I am pretty sure some of them will be offended by this statement, but hey, this is a free forum, you can say whatever you want. Grin

I've dealt with a lot of different companies for a lot of different businesses over the years and have never encountered the scammers that exist in this "industry".

This is because Cryptocurrencies are not governed, it is way more convenient for scammers to receive a crypto coin rather than a wire transfer, so that's pretty normal.

Quote
I've even found that manufacturer's sites can't even be trusted.  Looking for Obelisk's site I found another site with Obelisk as part of the domain name.  It even looked better than the official site.

Google and all those domain providers are the once to blame, I have been sending complains to Godaddy to take down some of the domains they sold to scammers, I provided all evidence that those sites are fake, they haven't done anything about it.

Anyway, it's always best to come to this forum and ask for the official domain/website of any mining manufacture you want, you will find everything you need here, all you need to do is search this section and if you can't find an answer just make a new topic and you will get all the answers you need.

Good luck.

3592  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to eliminate Large mining pools on: August 17, 2020, 12:17:36 AM
That's a great effort you put there, but I have to sadly inform you that this isn't going to work IMO at least.

You are trying to solve an economical issue rather than a technical issue, this whole "one-cpu-one-vote" is highly misunderstood and I am having a very hard time believing that Satoshi didn't see large pools coming, according to Satoshi:

Quote
Only people trying to create new coins would need to run
network nodes.  At first, most users would run network nodes, but as the
network grows beyond a certain point, it would be left more and more to
specialists with server farms of specialized hardware
https://www.mail-archive.com/cryptography@metzdowd.com/msg09964.html

Everything that has to do "money" will always end up in the hands of a few players, this is just how the universe works, bitcoin mining has even a worse issue where the less profitable it becomes to mine -  the less "decentralized" it gets, and as block rewards keep going down, it only gets worse.

Mining is pretty fair the way it is now, it doesn't favor anybody and nobody has any patented/exclusive methods that give them any advantages over other miners.

Another thing that many people seem to be missing is that running your own node is freaking difficult and cost a lot of money despite of the small block size, let alone having to run a dozen of them.

Forcing miners to run their own nodes will only lead to fewer miners (as people) and eventually, mining will not only be "pool" centralized, the hashpower itself will be centralized, that is an issue that we currently don't have and it would be best not to create.

I don't want to hijack this thread with my own "proposal" to solve this economical problem, but as the old saying goes "if you can't beat them, join them", and to do that, we should push for a "community mining pool" that is competitive enough as a way of protection against large pools.

Facts:

1- The majority of individual miners want to make the most money most simply and cheaply. (current plug-n-play system works perfectly)
2- The majority of individual miners DON'T want luck to be in their way and they want steady and stable payouts. (PPS pools do the job perfectly)

You take that away from them, and they will be gone.

There is, however, a large portion of miners who would be willing to shift their hashrate to a "trusted" pool in order to give it more power to compete against all other "untrusted" pools given that the "trusted" pool works exactly as the other pools, the majority of them are NOT willing to set up their own node/s and go through all the trouble, a good percentage of them don't know how to do it in the first place, but you know who has the money, skills and skin to do all that? large cooperations and farms, so your proposal might just be a great push towards more centralization.

3593  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Good Reliable and Reputable dealers ??? on: August 16, 2020, 11:19:07 PM
It's terrible to say, but the most honest dealer I've dealt with has been a Chinese dealer.  I'm amazed at the dishonesty and criminality of so many dealers.
If there is a thread... please point me to it.  If not anyone have recommendations.

There is no need to link dishonesty and scam to any nationality/race/religion.

Below is a list of "trusted" sellers, I will start with the U.S based sellers in no particular order

kaboomracks > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5042442.0
offordscott    > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5138318.0

China Based:

Miner Expert > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5260230.0

You are going to trade with these people at your own risk, I have traded bitmain coupons with kaboomracks and offordscott, and I have bought a truckload of mining gears from Miner Expert aka Grace, These 3 guys have been pretty active for years in the mining group on Telegram, so far they have not scammed anyone so I would label them "safe" but again DYOR.

I think it would be easier to deal with the guys based in the U.S even if their prices were a bit higher, as I think you will be able to pick up the gears personally or at worst case scenario you will have the guy's phone number and some information to use should things go south, not saying it will happen but you know.
3594  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ new PSU low voltage - help on: August 16, 2020, 10:03:42 PM
The S17 pro doesn't use the 6pin wires terminal, it uses busbar set up and they are pretty robust, such a scenario is almost impossible as the hashboards are fed directly from the PSU and only the fans and control board are connected to the PSU through wires, and those two draw a tiny amount of power and highly unlikely to cause such damage.

However, this can easily happen on all older models so it's always worth checking.
3595  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Restore Bitmain Orginal Firmware Using Sd-card on: August 16, 2020, 09:28:40 PM
I did isolate the miner in a vlan as a precaution, and I had to use wireshark to find the fixed IP the miner was set to...

The seller must be new to this, usually, when you want to sell a mining gear the first thing to do is to reset the network settings to DHCP, anyway after finding the IP address to the miner, did you attempt to change the firmware from the GUI by going to "upgrade" tab? this should work unless:

1- The is a signature-lock like most recent Bitmain firmware.
2- The miner is infected.

I hope I get an answer to this question because I will very likely tag HiveOs if it turns out that they lock the firmware upgrade from the GUI on purpose.
3596  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: August 16, 2020, 08:55:04 PM
How are they going to import say a 25M worth of mining gears that are made in China and avoid paying import taxes? I do understand that if it's a personal business and you are buying 10-20 gears that might work, I know Bitmain ships "some" of their miner from Malaysia, but such a huge order will most likey come from Shenzen, even if it was shipped to Malayisia and then to the U.S.

If I understand what you wrote correctly it means mining for individuals is better than holding because import tax can be avoided, but for business it isn't as good, can you do the same math with the tariffs added to the equation for 2 scnerios?

1: Btc from 10k to 7k.
2: Btc from 10k to 13k.
3597  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Restore S9 control board with "Hiveon Asic" back to original firmware on: August 16, 2020, 07:06:50 PM
... Instructions on how to uninstall that was nearly zero.

This is probably because HiveON is relatively new and not enough people know about it anyway, also the search keywords could be focused on how to restore stock firmware rather than how to remove HiveOn, any way you made this guide so it's no longer zero.

Well, I bought that miner via ebay from a unknown source, I would not trust anything wich is on the miner itself because it is not locked.

Most certainly, I always tell people to Sdcard the heck of any used mining gear they buy as many of them come infected, you have another option which is flashing Bitmain stock firmware via the web GUI but the miner needs to be on a quarantined LAN/VLAN, in most cases going with an Sdcard flash is easier.

I did use a 16GB sd-card at first, but it won't work (ultra sd sandisk), so I took an old 4GB former used on my raspberry pi and geparted it to fat32 and all went well.

Been there done that, every time I try to flash a miner using an Sdcard I have to try a few of them to get one to work, and then I lose it, a few months later I go through the same shit again, but based on my experience the size isn't the issue, it's just some Sdcards don't work for this thing, so when you find a Sdcard that works please hold on to it.

... what titel would you suggest?

Maybe something like "Restore Bitmain Orginal Firmware Using Sd-card"?

Quote

3599  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ new PSU low voltage - help on: August 16, 2020, 06:53:50 AM
2020-08-15 18:14:48 driver-btm-api.c:222:set_miner_status: ERROR_POWER_LOST

The first PSU failed, the brand new one is not passing enough DC power, this whole thing points to low/high AC voltage.

... (and like I said I know my electricity setup works fine because this test would pass on the old PSU).

This isn't necessarily valid, when the PSU doesn't get enough power, it doesn't come out with the same results, your old PSU was a faulty one and thus it's not a good reference, could you measure the AC voltage coming out from the outlet? if it is not dead stable between 200v and 240v then this new PSU will toast soon, so be careful.
3600  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The second biggest mistake I made in mining. on: August 16, 2020, 05:11:47 AM
Any reputable shippers or shipping services you recommend for this? And special packing needs?

This depends on the buyer, in my case as long as they are packed with some good protection like how you got them from China for an example, then I will be more than satisfied.

Also have to factor in the time = money thing for the seller (me).

If the buyer trusts you, they would pay you before you ship anything way.

Mail / UPS / FedEx Ground all I have to do it box it, put on a label and leave in in the front of the office and away it goes.

You will still use these guys in most cases, let me explain the process on how things work for me and I guess Artemis3 uses something similar, let's imagine a scenario where I want to buy your gears and ship them to the other side of the planet.

Since Air freight is so expensive and not everything can be shipped via air anyway, some local freight companies will have warehouses across major cities around the world, if I want to buy your miners, I will ask you to ship them to that warehouse in the U.S, it's up to you how you decide to get them there, you can use UPS/DHL or you can drop them off it doesn't matter, what matters is that you get me a receipt to prove that you have delivered say 10 boxes to the warehouse/company address.

At this point and assuming I trust you, you would have already gotten your money and you are not a part of what's going to happen next.

The warehouse/company have other clients who also buy all sort of different stuff and send them there, once they get the minimum quota to fill a 20F/40F container, they will load it on the back of a ship and off it goes. Grin

The buyer will, of course, have to wait for a much longer period, you (the seller) don't.

It may sound simple but it's a bit complicated as the buyer won't be able to test the gears until they arrive which could take a few months, also the seller isn't going to wait all that long to get paid even if escrow was used, so this needs mutual trust between both parties, I bought a ton of used gears mainly from China and shipped them this way, I was only able to test them MONTHS after they arrived, by that time I would have already paid the seller because I trust him, he also trusts that I will be honest after receiving the products, say I find 2 dead PSUs and 4 bad hash boards, knowing that I won't lie about it, the seller will return the money or send me the replacements on my next order.

So far no problems, but this way of doing things can be a little bit complicated, I would only make such a transaction with someone I highly trust.

Now since I do trust you, if you have a good amount of these old gears I might be able to take them, if they are just 5-10 miners then I can't do it because there is a minimum price I have to pay (Usually it's 1 cubic meter) so if I buy only 5 miners then the shipping cost of each miner will be beyond reasonable.

Hope by now you understand how many of these old gears get moved around the world and why the hashrate isn't dropping Cheesy.
