Greetings all..

Newbie here learning tough lessons the hard way.  Off to a rough and costly start.  There are an awful lot of dealers on the web that are nothing but scam websites.  Almost all dealers only accept crypto and that alone is an invitation for fraud since nothing can easily be traced.  I have managed to find a couple scammers and have lost a nice chunk of change to them (will pursue legal recourse) but only one is here in the U.S.   I have also avoided a couple "dealers" due to bad reviews found on review sites.   Thank God for them.

I wondered where to find a list of reputable dealers which are legit, offer decent prices, and do what they say they will.  It's terrible to say, but the most honest dealer I've dealt with has been a Chinese dealer.  I'm amazed at the dishonesty and criminality of so many dealers.

So... trying to avoid risks and find a dealer with decent prices, quick delivery and response, and above all else, legitimacy.

If there is a thread... please point me to it.  If not anyone have recommendations.

You can try and check the Goods section here at bitcointalk and if you are able to find a great deal here then contact a few reputable people/users to holds funds or be the escrow ( just be ready to pay for there fees as escrow aren't free but you'll be sure that your funds will be safe in case of scam)

There are many scam dealers out there if you don't directly buy on manufacturer's you will be scam.
Sample, you want to buy Antminer, you should directly buy miner on their main shop which is https://shop.bitmain.com/
If you see some 3rd party sites offering lower than this there's a big chance that they are scam except for verified distributor(Never seen distributor selling less than the original price).

Here's the list of well-known manufacturer websites.

If your plan is to become a reseller try to contact them and ask if you can be a distributor(I think you can get a lesser price than the original price.)

There is no need to link dishonesty and scam to any nationality/race/religion.

Below is a list of "trusted" sellers, I will start with the U.S based sellers in no particular order

kaboomracks > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5042442.0
offordscott    > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5138318.0

China Based:

Miner Expert > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5260230.0

You are going to trade with these people at your own risk, I have traded bitmain coupons with kaboomracks and offordscott, and I have bought a truckload of mining gears from Miner Expert aka Grace, These 3 guys have been pretty active for years in the mining group on Telegram, so far they have not scammed anyone so I would label them "safe" but again DYOR.

I think it would be easier to deal with the guys based in the U.S even if their prices were a bit higher, as I think you will be able to pick up the gears personally or at worst case scenario you will have the guy's phone number and some information to use should things go south, not saying it will happen but you know.

I'm not making a nationalistic comment.  I'm just saying that experience has been better than my experience with American dealers/sellers.

I've dealt with a lot of different companies for a lot of different businesses over the years and have never encountered the scammers that exist in this "industry".   I've never really encountered any totally scam companies in the past... unlike the miner dealers where the majority I have found are scammers.  Pretty sad,

I've even found that manufacturer's sites can't even be trusted.  Looking for Obelisk's site I found another site with Obelisk as part of the domain name.  It even looked better than the official site.

Thanks for the tips.  I hadn't heard of any of  those so I will check them out.  I'd rather deal with someone here in the U.S. if at all possible.   And, yes... if something "goes wrong" with a dealer here in the U.S., depending on the amount of $$$ involved, 3,000 miles is a flight away and may be in driving distance if closer.   I may be making a trip to one CA based dealer that has $ 7K that has yet to deliver.   I'm going to call the DA/PA first and see if they can be of any help.  If not, I may get an attorney that will go after them.

I'm just not used to dealing wth irreputable dealers.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Thank you for the links.  I wasn't aware that manufacturers sell directly to end users but am glad to know.   I have thought about becoming a dealer simply because of the crappy experiences I've had and I have preliminary plans for solar electric to make electricity cost $ 0 in the long run.... enough to run at least a couple dozen miners to start with.   Elec cost is only $ .06/KWH here so it's going to take awhile to break even.

I am not an "American Dealer" so I don't know how that feels, but I am pretty sure some of them will be offended by this statement, but hey, this is a free forum, you can say whatever you want. Grin

I've dealt with a lot of different companies for a lot of different businesses over the years and have never encountered the scammers that exist in this "industry".

This is because Cryptocurrencies are not governed, it is way more convenient for scammers to receive a crypto coin rather than a wire transfer, so that's pretty normal.

Quote
I've even found that manufacturer's sites can't even be trusted.  Looking for Obelisk's site I found another site with Obelisk as part of the domain name.  It even looked better than the official site.

Google and all those domain providers are the once to blame, I have been sending complains to Godaddy to take down some of the domains they sold to scammers, I provided all evidence that those sites are fake, they haven't done anything about it.

Anyway, it's always best to come to this forum and ask for the official domain/website of any mining manufacture you want, you will find everything you need here, all you need to do is search this section and if you can't find an answer just make a new topic and you will get all the answers you need.

Good luck.

Be aware that there are many scammers in the goods section, the forum doesn't moderate scam and scam isn't against the rules here, you want to avoid

1- Topics that are self-moderated
2- Members who have negative feedback/flags
3- Newbies who refuse to use a trusted forum Escrow.

It's also worth mentioning that using escrow also carries some risk, there are many impostors and you must confirm that you are talking to the right person.

On a side note, posting twice in a row within 24 hours is against the forum rules, you have 3 consecutive posts which need to be combined in 1 and the other 2 should be deleted.
