You really think bitcoins will be worth more than gold in a year? Well, I sure as hell hope you are right.

Infinite - Infinite is undefinable.

Google for several proofs of this (or proofs that it is either 0, combined with a proof that it is Infinity, proving that it's neither or both at once, blablabla, undefinable)

Well yeah, definitely. However, there is different ways of approaching infinity in these manners.
For example- I have an infinite amount of marbles, I give you all of them, and now I have 0. infinity-infinity=0
I have an infinite amount of marbles, and I give you all of them except for 2. Infinity-infinity=7
I have an infinite amount of marbles and give you every other one. infinity-infinity=infinity.

"There is no single answer to this, as infinity is not a number in the strictest sense.
Infinity is a "limit".  It is something you can get closer and closer to, but you never
quite reach it.  What matters is how fast you approach the first infinity (call it
infinity01) versus how fast you approach the second infinity (call it infinity02).  If
you approach both at exactly the same speed, always the same distance from each, then
infinity01-infinity02=0.  If you are always a little closer to infinity01, then
infinity01-infinity02 is a positive number.  If you move toward infinity01 twice as
fast as how you approach infinity02, then infinity01-infinity02=infinity.  The behavior
of limits is not quite the same as the behavior of numbers.

Dr. Ken Mellendorf"

So although there is no concrete 'proof' within it, given the nature of infinity...it seems 'possible' that in a never-ending martingale with infinite bankroll, you may be able to bust and end up with a 0 bankroll.

364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Play or Invest : 1% House Edge : Banter++ on: August 11, 2013, 07:22:39 PM
I was contemplating something earlier. Touches more on the theoretical than anything, but may shed some light.

If you had an infinite bankroll, and let a martingale run, is it possible to end up at 0? Or maybe inevitable? Or would you always come out +EV?

If you had an infinite bankroll, then your martingale, in theory, can go on infinitely. This brings out a few possibilities. If truly infinite, you would encounter an infinite cycle of losses, and an infinite cycle of wins.

If you actually ended up with an infinite amount of losses would you end up with a 0 bankroll? Since we are talking about a set, theoretical amount of infinity, would infinity-infinity=0 in this situation? Or would, in this situation infinity-infinity=infinity, since the bankroll x, which = infinity constantly fluctuates with wins and losses? If it's the latter than the martingale would always yield +EV, but if the former, it may be inevitable to end up with 0.

"I can't gamble so you shouldn't either, instead do this other form of gambling."

I think most people that gamble are aware of the house edge and the idea that house always wins..overall.
However, let people do what they want to. It's their money and their lives. Perhaps someone doesn't like the idea of trading shady alt coins.

I don't care who you are, that's still a form of gambling, and i'm pretty damn sure that wagering 1btc for double profit and winning is a lot more profitable than trading alt coins.

To each their own.

After testing for a few minutes just a bit of feedback,

"Becouse fairness is a good thing"
You have a pretty big spelling error at the top of your page. Tongue

The results of the roll should update as fast as you can make it- I notice the balance changes after a second, but then 2 or 3 seconds after the results actually show up.
From my experience, and understanding a site like this success is weighed heavily on features such as instant results showing up. Like on Just-dice, the results are displayed nearly instantaneous and I think people generally appreciate and like that, and if it didn't have it, it's success may be a bit different.

Apart from that, another feature I think people would like would be a way to input the exact bet they wish to wager, rather than using the slider to pick a bet. Perhaps I wish to only bet 39 satoshis instead of 40? Just a thought there.

Otherwise, I like the site and I enjoy seeing a physical die on the screen. Smiley

HollowIP, account funded.
dice64, I have already implemented this. You can check client/server seed of roll by clicking "i" button on rolls history.

Quote
How is this provably fair when the mt_srand and mt_rand are pseudo-random and not guaranteed to give the same output on every system?
mt_rand will use seed provided using mt_srand. This is system-independed and will always return the same result.

Thanks- I enjoy trying out new games Smiley

Everything on the site was loading and working properly until I received the credits. However, after I saw them in my account, the stats portion of the site stopped loading properly, and i bet 40 satoshis, 4 different times, each came up rolled as a 1, and nothing was ever subtracted from my funds. Upon trying to reload the webpage after this- the site no longer loads at all.
Could be down temp for something but just letting you be aware of that issue.
Hope to continue testing this soon Smiley

[edit: working properly again for now Smiley]

The only concerns are really taxes and *maybe* gambling.

Otherwise, it's in the damn constitution that the people can make their own currencies if they so choose to.

[Edit: and even still, fuck that. Half these taxes they throw on us are illegal on their end anyways. Labor is not supposed to be taxed, and what I do with another person is my damn business, not theirs.]
373  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Which is better? A martingale or a single bet. on: August 09, 2013, 08:20:39 PM
So the martingale has a better probability for turning 1000 into 1010, but how does the math change if you were to try to go from 1000 to 2000? I wonder if the martingale would still have a higher chance of winning than a single bet?

Yes.  No matter what you're trying to do, two bets are better than one.  I posted previously about how to turn 1 BTC into 2 BTC, and have modified the quote here, multiplying everything by 1000:

If you want to double your money, you have a higher chance if you place multiple bets than if you place a single bet.  You have to pick the right multiple bets of course.

It's really quite easy to demonstrate:

If you place a single bet, then the chance of doubling your money is 49.5%.

Now consider this 2 bet sequence:

1. bet 414.21356 BTC with payout 3.41421356x and chance 28.99642866% to win 1414.21356 BTC for a profit of 1000 BTC
2. if you lose, bet 585.78644 BTC at the same payout and chance to win 2000 BTC for a net profit of 1000 BTC.

Your overall chance of success is 49.58492857%.  That is higher than 49.5%.

(Note that those bets aren't exactly available on Just-Dice, since chance is only available to 4 significant figures, but that's just a nit-pick.  It's still possible to double your money with a higher than 49.5% chance using 2 bets, and not using 1 bet).

In both cases you're going to run into the 'max profit' limit on Just-Dice, but we can ignore that for the purposes of this discussion.

Ah, I see and understand more clearly now. Thanks for putting it that way, and I apologize for missing it previously.

Now speaking just about martingales, eliminating the all-in, 1 bet approach. Is it more profitable to have a shorter martingale such as the 2 bet sequence, or say have a 10 bet sequence? Logic is telling me that perhaps the 2 bet sequence is better than the 10 bet sequence, but I could just be misled. For all I know, they have the same probability factor.

It's over guys, I win. Wink (assuming the OP actually read the entries from the past 1-2 days, and noted that I DO NOT WANT THE FREE 0.01 UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE)

Congrats! I know what you did, and I'm jealous I didn't have the bankroll or balls to do such.
377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Which is better? A martingale or a single bet. on: August 09, 2013, 04:42:34 PM
Does the martingale sequence give you a better chance of winning than a single bet?

I just ran a Monte Carlo simulation.

starting bank = 1000
firstBet = 1
probability of win, each single bet = 0.5
house edge = 0.01
Amount to win = 1.01 * starting bank

Martingale rules:
  Bet firstBet
  If win bet firstBet
If lose bet enough to win back previous losses.
If balance = 0 then stop
If balance = Amount to win then stop
  bet again

This sequence will continue until you have turned 1000 bitcoins into either > 1010 bitcoin or 0 bitcoins.

I ran this 1 million times and got the following results:

Number of wins (>1010 bitcoins) = 988311
Number of loses (0 bitcoins) = 11689
Probability of a win = 0.988311
Mean return of all sequences = 998.627
The mean of all the wins = 1010.43799

If you bet 1000 bitcoins in a single bet at probability of 0.979773138 you would also win 1010.43799, if you win.

So: With the martingale you have a 0.988311000 chance of winning.
With the single bet you have a 0.979773138 chance of winning.

Martingale wins by a p = 0.008537862.

Important to note: the mean of all the sequence is less than the amount wagered.  If you do this over and over again you will be lose.

So the martingale has a better probability for turning 1000 into 1010, but how does the math change if you were to try to go from 1000 to 2000? I wonder if the martingale would still have a higher chance of winning than a single bet?

Infinity isn't a problem, it's awesome! Although if I'd invented it I would have called it something way cooler.

Infinity is cool as it is!  Cool

By the way, I wonder which "discovery" is the greatest of all time in maths: mankind's awareness of the 0 (zero), so as the vacuum and the idea of complete absence as well, or the notion of infinity...  Roll Eyes

I would strongly argue that 0 is the greatest mathematical (and philosophical) discovery.
I mean 0 even creates the circle shape, and no one can argue how badass a circle is.

Or perhaps this: e^{i \pi} + 1 = 0   <such a beautiful equation.

Or, Or, perhaps 'barel'y related to numbers at all, but Godel's Incompleteness Theorem?

I may be somewhat bad with numbers, but the philosophy behind math is widely fascinating to me.

I am actually Hollowinfinity. My account was hacked in the middle of July, so my backup account (this) became my primary account.

I've pmd BitVegas about the situation and hope I am still eligible for the win. (since my entry was kinda overlapped between 2 profiles now)
However, Hollowinfinity's profile retained the signature the entirety of july and the payment address and everything is still the same, so I hope that works out.

Thank you either way for doing this contest, and to extend generosity (and to make up for confusion with overlapping profiles, considering the now-hacked profile)

The next person in this thread to post their address, with the BitVegas signature I will send 0.15 of the prize your way if and when I receive said prize. Smiley
I haven't received the prize money yet- Idk if they were holding off sending it or something for whatever reasons there may be.

Anyways,
Thanks for the understanding.
