Ah one of those "I have nothing to hide".
Ive heard of your kind, you guys are very dangerous.

I don't have any child porn to hide. I use torbrower for other things.

This community is a lot like an MMO. The people who have been playing for years, get mad at the newer guys, for not automatically knowing everything there is to know, about it.

Are you the new guy? You have over 2000 posts...

New to this aspect. I'm pretty knowledgeable in the Alt Coin area, and coin developement. This area is new to me. Again, castrated for not knowing EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING Roll Eyes

You didn't have to know everything to see an obvious scam. Even if you didn't know it was joey, the post was very suspicious.

Plus, I think it has to do with you being an enabler and more that you did a quick loan for rep. That is not looked kindly upon.
363  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WTF is wrong with America? on: August 09, 2013, 01:52:27 PM
Utter tosh fallacy.

1) Nukes, big bombs, tanks, and rocket launchers do not operate themselves, and the humans operating them are vulnerable to small arms, so they carry their own small arms 2) Nukes, big bombs, tanks, and rocket launchers are crew-served and nearly always collateral damage-causing weapons, which means they are not covered by the 2A for individual keep and bear. However, when the government takes the cold civil war hot, the 2A will no longer matter as a legal defense against categorical infringements against the right to self-defense. People will either use whatever weapon they have or can loot to defend innocent lives (regardless of whether it is crew-served or not), or evil will win.

Please please tell me that's a joke and that you really do understand the blaring fallacy with that argument.

Oh, you're right, nukes, big bombs, tanks, and rocket launchers are all fucking controlled by Skynet, not humans. Nevermind! /ignore

You are not shooting down an ICBM with small arms. You are not shooting down a cruise missile with small arms. You cannot destroy an M1 Abrams with small arms. In fact, good luck destroying an Abrams with anything but another Abrams. And yes, you could kill the operators... If they open up the door and let you in. Otherwise they'll just laugh at your second amendment and tear you apart.

The only heavy weapon you could take would be a rocket launcher. But that's useless against any of the other things listed.

Many seem to be implying all military and government and private contractors are traitors who will commit genocide without question, and that you can't get inside things from the outside.

Wrong, and wrong.

When did I imply that there would be a genocide? If there was a revolution, of course the government is going to fight back... It wouldn't be genocide, but they aren't going to send the rebels flowers and cookies.

And I assume that by the "inside things from the outside" you're talking about buying from contractors? Because contractors don't have access to the plans of the weapons they build most of the time. Instead each section of the factory has access to a small piece, and together they build the weapons or vehicles without knowing the entire blueprint.

And Tormail taken down too:
http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/08/freedom-hosting/
This is becoming crazy.

So the government went after a hosting service that hosts child porn? Oh no!

LOL, thats all i got to say.

Quote
Freedom Hosting has long been notorious for allowing child porn to live on its servers. In 2011, the hactivist collective Anonymous singled out Freedom Hosting for denial-of-service attacks after allegedly finding the firm hosted 95 percent of the child porn hidden services on the Tor network

That's from the article you posted.

Think it out.  What does this actually mean?  That Tor actually is effective in hiding the identity of the surfers?  Seems like otherwise, they would have wanted the site left open as a honeypot.

There's a story here, and it's not just a shrug and a laugh and....

So the government went after a hosting service that hosts child porn? Oh no!

It is a shrug and a laugh. I don't have to worry about my identity being compromised because I don't go to those kinds of sites... Yes, I suppose that now technically we are all at risk for our identities to be exposed. But the thing is, the government isn't doing one massive attack on every tor user. They're going after people associated with child porn, which is not something I disagree with. I don't have anything to worry about, so I am just going to shrug it off and laugh.

Besides, at the rate the world is going, eventually stuff like food and air may need to be bought and sold on the black market.

Yeah, that's why I've been hording air right now. My entire house is filled to the brim with it. I even filled my car with it, and I have a secret compartment within my lungs (don't tell anyone!)

I thought we were talking about modern times. And eight years before that the Iranians supported the Nazis, so who started the aggression?

Quote
Did I say the money comes from defense or did I say our largest export after garbage is defense? While clearly we don't profit from exporting garbage, no one would deny a lot of it leaves US borders. The same goes for defense SPENDING, not sales. Remember it doesn't have to be profitable if they can spend into endless debt tacked onto tax payers who can never repay. The bankers still get their cut from the volume of money flow and various investment instruments. I suggest you look at US military and economic aid, both forms of spending, you will see military aid alone outpaces your soybean export figure. Don't forget that does not include commercial defense sales exports.

http://breakingdefense.com/2012/03/16/the-military-imbalance-how-the-u-s-outspends-the-world/

Wait, so first it was about profit, but now it doesn't matter if the US profits? I showed that soybeans and Walmart are bigger industries domestic and foreign and you say that doesn't matter?

You said:

Quote
It is a fact war is profitable

But then you turned your argument around:

Quote
Remember it doesn't have to be profitable

If war is not profitable, why do it? Who wins exactly? I thought that the government wanted money. Seems like the best option would be to build Walmarts, not bombs.

After all, Walmart is more profitable. Weapons manufacturers can't compare.

Yes, our spending is high, but that's because we have more than double the gdp of any other country on the planet. Our % spending is more reasonable. It's about the same as Russia (4.7% and 4.4% respectively), another major country. If we compare to the middle east, we spend less money on defense than some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Jordan, and Israel. Syria and Yemen are also very close at 4.0% and 3.9%.

In case you're wondering, Iran does spend much less than us at 1.8%

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures

It would appear that the US does not spend an unreasonable amount on defense in terms of percentage.

In fact, the highest country is Eritrea at 20.9%. Eritrea, oppressor of all of humanity.

Hi, Hydro, I am a newbie trying to get into crypto. Can you help me out bud?

4 posts and you already have the scammer tag? You're a professional.
376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 0.5btc to loan to you. on: August 08, 2013, 07:31:07 PM
Don't give loans to new members I guess you already know that. If you really want to give out a loan, then give it some member with atleast 150 activity. That way the chances of you getting scammed are minimised because who would throw away an account like that for some 0.5 BTC  Huh

Best of luck

Activity and post count are meaningless.

Rep is a better indicator, but you should look at the size of transactions. Some people will do tiny loans or exchanges to build up rep so they can scam a larger amount.

You should always ask for collateral or go through an escrow if it's an amount you're not willing to lose.
377  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Socialism on: August 08, 2013, 07:28:21 PM
Oh my god you're a fucking idiot trying to find something wrong with material you have no understanding of.

Hey, I'm not the one who said that removing one of the components of the trophic cascade removes the whole cascade itself.

You're an idiot because:

1. You think you have a point, but don't.
2. You're actually wrong about the specific complaint you have.
3. You're the one who didn't know about any of this stuff until I pointed it out, but you try and act like you did.

Read my long post again, and try to comprehend it - I know it must be hard for you. And read the recent link I provided so won't keep acting like an idiot.

There was civilized discussion until you guys posted this (although it was Rassah's fault, he came out of nowhere). Go argue somewhere else, or contribute. Calling each other names does nothing.
378  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Socialism on: August 08, 2013, 07:27:18 PM
We are missing the excluded middle (where the state does nothing).  It is less a matter of whether the majority or minority "get their way" and more a matter of whether some percentage of the population gets to use the power of law (guns and jails) to do something.  If so, what that percentage should be.

But there is no middle. If a vote is made for whether marijuana is legalized, for instance, you can either have it (support one side) or make it illegal (support the other). Same goes for guns, civil rights, abortions, etc.

Quote
We get bad law when we act too fast.

Agreed. I don't want votes to happen in a day. There would have to be televised debates showing both sides.

Quote
The "mob rule" of satisfying a simple majority who elect to kill or steal from others for their benefit or satisfaction does not sit well with me at all.
It does not make it any better that >50% will be angry for failing to kill or steal, it still ought not be done just to satisfy a majority (of those who voted).
Even if 60% are upset at not using the law to steal or kill, that might still be right and just, given the ethical breach for using the law against their fellow country people for that purpose.

This assumes that the 51% is more prone to bad decisions than the 49%. Why is this so?

Quote
There are even likely some things that are simply wrong to do even in cases where 99% vote that it should be done (Stupid Talk Show Host example).  The greater harm of murder over the harm of frustration with what STSH said on air doesn't provide sufficient justification.  The lynch mob should not have their way just because they show up with pitchforks and torches.

Same thing I said before: why is the 51% more rash and prone to violence than the 49%. The Westboro church is a very small percentage of people yet they're one of the loudest. If anything, the majority of people are more rational.

Quote
Voting may also be done under non-factual information, prevalent media spending, emotionalism, or all sorts of situations that may skew an outcome.  Upholding a simple majority as the arbitrator of justice and source of law has dangers and unforeseen consequences enough that we have "a republic, if we can keep it".

Same thing I said before. Why is the majority prone to bad decisions but the minority isn't? For example, what about gay rights right now? I think that we can agree that no harm can come from letting them marry. But even if the majority of people want rights, it doesn't matter because it takes more than a simple majority... And in that case the minority would be wrong.

Quote
For civil matters it may be ok to have one level of majority, but for criminal (where life and livelihood are at issue) there is a higher bar in court cases.  But we do not extend this to our legislative effort.  We create new crime definitions and criminality through a simple majority of 51%, and often bundle much new legislation within a single measure.

I think that the amount of time spent on an issue will determine the accuracy of the decision. But why go with the minority's decision, if we can't reach a consensus?

Quote
The result being that we have ever-greater legal restraints and ever-greater judicial authority in a one direction path toward statism and socialism through democratic incremental addition.  The question is: at what rate do we proceed?

I really don't know at rate we should proceed. I guess we should put it to a vote  Wink.
379  Economy / Economics / Re: The very sad truth about Bitcoin : It might die to gambling on: August 08, 2013, 07:15:41 PM
There's that bitcoinstore.com that is supposed to do $800,000 in sales every quarter. And it's not fair if you don't count exchanges because that's how many bitcoins are bought and/or sold. There are like at least 10 major bitcoin exchanges starting with Mt. Gox.

The volume on gambling sites can also be misleading because that's the same coin being regurgitated over and over as people bet again and again, the same coins they used at the start of playing.

There are about 11 million coins now. Maybe 5 million of them move around on a regular basis. 40,000 coins for one or two gambling sites isn't big compared to all the rest.

SD this month (after it's sale) is showing negative right now. Just look at it's own analysis thread.

$800,000 every quarter? That means that SR sees more in a month than that site in a quarter (1.22 million pounds).

Truly we have a marijuana based economy, so the casinos have no chance.

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-02/01/silk-road-crackdown

On a side note: If I have 4 bitcoins currently (and I'm buying more), does that mean that some day I'll have 4/21000000 of the entire economy's wealth? What about people who have large amounts? At that amount of money I could buy a country some day if bitcoin becomes a huge world currency.
