361  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Up Like Trump on: September 13, 2015, 04:26:51 PM
I can't find any politician worth voting for, and Trump is certainly not one of them. This is just another "big persona" that does viral things, just a joke of a guy wanting fame because he already got enough money. So he'll do is fair share of fucking around and doing" Non politically correct "shit to entertain the masses, then retire with his new found fame and keep enjoying his millions. This idiot isn't capable of solving shit or expressing any creative thoughts.
362  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why bitcoin is going nowhere (too hard to buy bitcoin) on: September 13, 2015, 04:25:03 PM
Buying Bitcoin is pretty annoying. The best is getting on Bitcoin. Make jobs being on Bitcoin a common thing and Bitcoin will start raising. People just don't care enough to go through buying to use it, they will buy only if they want to treat it like gold, not like an actual currency. It defeats the purpose if everytime you want to buy something you have to first buy Bitcoin and then buy whatever when you could just buy directly with fiat. In most cases you aren't getting any advantages out of doing that. So in my opinion the success of Bitcoin can't come from expecting people is going to exchange their fiat for BTC to buy stuff.
363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dr Adam Back and Gavin Andresen discuss a block size increase on: September 13, 2015, 04:02:51 PM
This podcast certainly makes me feel optimistic that a solution will be found.  For all the posts currently flooding onto the forum portraying Adam and Gavin as polar opposites with no common ground, it's clear from this discussion that such views are false and manipulative.  They can still have cordial and civilised discourse and both clearly agree larger blocks are required.  The only issue remaining is finding the right balance.
I think Hearn is the most controversial figure and not Gavin, Gavin seems more reasonable but he has had some pretty dodgy behavior as well (look for the logs of some irc chats). I think Carlton Banks (not the Belair prince brother I mean the poster above) might be onto something. Gavin is seeing that XT has at this point pretty much failed to gain any relevant traction, which translates into basically backpedaling.
364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nick Szabo's Remarks about Bitcoin XT on: September 13, 2015, 03:58:33 PM
It's nice to see Nick Szabo becoming more active, he was always super secretive. I think I have never heard his voice before this podcast. This man is nothing less of a genius, it makes me think he might as well be Satoshi in the way he addresses stuff. I guess he isn't attending the scaling bitcoin meeting if he did this tho, I had some small hopes of seeing a live debate with him and the rest of experts.
365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elliptic Curves subject to Quantum Computer attacks, ramifications for Bitcoin? on: September 13, 2015, 03:31:47 PM
None. Worrying about SHA256 being broken in our lifetimes is a waste of time. Also, if SHA256 gets broken it will mean the entire society of information is done since most of the encryption behind all kind of infrastructures including traditional banking are backed by SHA256 so it would be game over for everyone not only Bitcoin.
366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best block size limit? on: September 13, 2015, 03:04:26 PM
Any Idea on what is the best number? or a dynamic one will do.

please share your Idea. Thanks
I think a dynamic one is fine. We can use data such as addresses used within last n blocks (i.e. popularity of BTC that time).
However, the current 1MB limit is fine for the current popularity. When BTC get more popularity, then 2MB would be fine that time, etc.
Yeah but the thing is
1) You have to have your block size ready BEFORE the surge in popularity happens to avoid the network being bloated.
2) If a dynamic solution was that easy it would already been implemented, I think there are some serious difficulties behind this method. I would like some experts to address this more technically. It obviously sounds like the most logical answer, but I don't know the details and cons of actually implementing it.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitTorrent Creator Weighs in on Bitcoin-XT on: September 13, 2015, 03:02:16 PM
I do not understand how his credentials (i.e. creator of BitTorrent) are relevant to this at all? His opinion should be valued just as much as the opinion of any random (legit) account here. The war between Core and XT (and everyone pitching in) needs to stop. This is not beneficial for either party.

It is beneficial I think, different opinions are unavoidable and there will always be unsolved tensions, so whoever wins the war will be the one that survives, which I hope is Core and at this point it's safe to say that no one really cares about XT and the problem will be solved within core through a BIP and implementation of the lightning network.
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you spread the word about Bitcoin? on: September 13, 2015, 02:59:02 PM
I don't really, everytime I have tried to talk about Bitcoin they make weird faces and look me strange as if I was talking complete nonsense. I tell them why it would be worth it to own some even if its a small fraction, but they just don't care unless you mention you can make money with it- I have given up on trying to make people aware on Bitcoin anymore, I just don't care and only worry about me. Most people aren't simply mentally ready for what a decentralized p2p currency constitutes.
369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATMs spreading very slowly it seems... on: September 07, 2015, 03:27:17 AM
I think when people saw that Tested documentary (the Tested YouTube channel gets millions of view) of the video called"we buy our first Bitcoin" it was a terrible hit on Bitcoin's popularity when it basically showcased an archaic way to deal with the ATM machines requiring ridiculous levels of ID to get some Bitcoin out of it.
370  Economy / Economics / Re: can gold be a short-term investment ? on: September 07, 2015, 03:21:50 AM
Precious metals are definitely long term you should also use them as an inflation hedge to protect yourself in a crisis, if paper money ends you'll want to have a stash of silver to trade with.
Well, if paper money ends that would basically mean tons of purchasing power flowing into Bitcoin and metals, so anyone holding a decent amount would automatically be rich, you would be able to choose what to use to trade with at that point.
371  Economy / Economics / Re: Tell me your predictions about Bitcoin on: September 07, 2015, 03:02:11 AM
Everybody seems to think that Bitcoin will just keep growing in value over time....I'm not so sure of that prediction.  Are new technologies being considered?  Yes, I loved my old Commodore 64....but it just can't do what my laptop does....right?

but heres the difference though, bitcoin is the only thing thats really unable to duplicate.

unless you find another satoshi nakamoto and recreate it for something else or a similay system. this technology itself is rare.

Are you sure? I think that in future bitcoin can easily be duplicated and have a very similar system, an exact replica of the technology too maybe, but that would be similar to someone creating an exact replica of facebook. Will people give it a look? Yes. Will people migrate to facebook or stop using facebook? No. Facebook will always have a giant monopoly in social media largely because they are able to maintain and control the market.

The Facebook analogy is nice!  Here's a twist on it: The myspace fan base moved on to a more reliable venue, facebook...and the bitcoin fan base will also migrate to a more advanced system, (NEXT GENERATION)....it's the law of entropy....smile....Hint:  Keep an eye on the work of Sunny King...or the Ethereum team!

Myspace fan base evolved when there was another service which was unable to provide the quality of features, myspace couldn't keep up with the needs of its markets, so facebook conquered their market. The only way bitcoin could fail in such a scenario would be a much more advanced coin is born and makes bitcoin look like a technology which is lightyears behind. If a similar scenario takes place, I'll be damned.

Hint:  Keep an eye on the work of Sunny King...or the Ethereum team!

Sunny King is the magician who with its touch will became everything he will touch in gold. He has the help of Ethereum team with which are creating the most awesome coin which will get down bitcoin and all other coins. Remain to see for which purpose this coin will be used.

who the f is Sunny King and Ethereum team, you've peaked my interest. Some links and info please Cheesy

Why Sunny King, the king of Alabama car dealers, of course-

http://www.sunnyking.com/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peercoin

Not saying the NBT/NSR/PPC system will over take BTC....but the thinking and reasoning is solid.

All of those are just nice experiments, and once side chains kick in we will not need altcoins to experiments, experiments will be able to be ran under the blockchain, which means altcoins will lose value since who needs alts when you can reinvent and develop things within the bitcoin ecosystem.
372  Economy / Economics / Re: They want my dna, urine samples to buy Bitcoins In the USA on: September 07, 2015, 02:15:50 AM
I'm thinking of buying a few bitcoin by sending it through moneygram. There are a few people in LocalBitcoin.com that accept it as a form of payment, and they don't over-charge too much. They're usually selling at a 2% above market rates. For me, it's the most convenient way to do it (anonymous, too) as the fees on the exchange I have available to me are above the fees of the moneygram transfer. I would suggest that route for you too.
Is the 2% cheaper than the Virwox route? I guess it is, but Virwox was one of the fastest ways, but had the biggest fees.
Anyway, I think its a real problem, in USA its getting more and more annoying to buy BTC with all the regulations, so you are stuck with LocalBitcoins where you can't do trading (if you are into that).
If you want to hold long term just buy there.
373  Economy / Economics / Re: Google Ad Revenue on: September 07, 2015, 01:48:53 AM
AdSense probably pays the best rates but limits content creation a lot, you can only upload certain things and your content must be 100% original (and yeah unoriginal gameplay of copyright-free games count hence why Youtube is flooded with all those shitty gamers uploading videos daily)
374  Economy / Economics / Re: If Greece defaults on: September 07, 2015, 01:43:34 AM
It's funny how lately now media doesn't talk about Greece anymore and Greece has disappeared from most people's mind already. Just like Ebola etc. Next will be the Syria thing, after a couple of weeks we'll forget. I think next thing to be all over the media will be other countries of the EU going Greece and maybe China keeps crashing as well.

What did you expect? Mass media is always excited about chaos and mayhem. Currently our islands are tormented by Syrian refugees and Greek coastguards save the lives of thousands of people fleeing from Syria through turkey each week and nobody bats an eye. When Greece was "on the verge of defaulting" a 300b debt cameras were rolling 24/7 from Athens.

I am surprised that Tsipras is still commanding that sort of support. He double-crossed the Greek people, despite the fact that the latter voted overwhelmingly against the bailout terms being set by the troika. But that said, I have to agree that Tsipras seems less demonic, when compared to the pro-oligarch moron Vangelis Meimarakis.

I think that ND make some great points as opposition while parts of Syriza are falling apart. Meimakakis probably isn't the most influential figure New Democracy ever had as a party leader but he's a well known politician and I think the current situation justifies the rise of the party.

Yeah it's unfair that they got all the bad press, and now most mainstream media is not informing on the fact they are getting tons of refugees on their really bad economic situation. It's the most rich countries that should be getting the refugees not the most fucked ones. Coming soon I think Spain is going to get some of them too and their economic situation is similar to Greece in the future if im not mistaken.
375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Promoting Bitcoin on Agar.io like a true hero! on: September 07, 2015, 01:30:00 AM
Nice one Smiley I think this actually works... It's like one of those things you constantly see... And then you have to search about it to see what it's about.

They could have simply implemented a BTC symbol skin, as they did with doge.

As for agar.io, it's simple, but certainly not dumb. It's a reference to the Agar plate (it's a bacteria growth medium)... So the "background" where you move in the game is Agar, and the "balls" are all bacteria Smiley

Isn't there an actual BTC skin already? I think when I played back in the day I saw an orange BTC logo. Maybe someone managed to write the B unicode symbol thing as a nickname? weird. I think it's a good idea to promote the coin. Tons and tons of people play the game and you always pay attention to who is 1º.
376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I've been scammed 5.5BTC. What will you do when your Bitcoin get scammed? on: September 07, 2015, 01:26:44 AM
if you're trying a site for the first time, why would you deposit 5.5btc into it? makes no sense
Because a fool and his money are quickly parted. Just because they have a lot of money does not mean they are smart.
There are a lot of not quite bright folks holding tons and tons of money from back in the day because they forgot the access to their wallets, and all they did to get those bitcoins was buying some when it was cheap as hell to get some weed in the original Silk Road back in the day.
377  Other / Off-topic / Re: I'm New To This PGP Program That I Keep Seeing. on: September 07, 2015, 01:24:06 AM
I have been trying to learn how to digitally sign for example a post or an email or something for a while but I still haven't gotten my mind around it. It should be way easier than it is now, its kind of alienating and you have to take a lot of steps to get it done, can't they just make it a click and go thing for the non geeks?
378  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you wish you could buy with btc ? on: September 07, 2015, 01:22:06 AM
I'm not sure if anyone said this already but I'd like to be able to purchase apps/music and movies anything offered in the Google Playstore would be nice. Also, being able to pay my netflix subscription on a monthly basis would be real nice too.

I think it would be cool to have a decentralized equivalent of Google Playstore for Bitcoin only rather than waiting for Google to start accepting payments, it would probably be the best solution. Creating alternatives of what is already there but with Bitcoin in mind so we don't have to wait for them to make a move.
379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin is not mainstream yet & my suggestions! on: September 05, 2015, 04:39:27 PM
You can't go big promoting Bitcoin to mainstream while network can't handle a significant amount of users. Apart from that Bitcoin imo is working flawlessly.

Then we need to resolve the blocksize debate ASAP.

But even after that, new users won't just spawn out of nowhere and make bitcoin a global currency overnight. They will join us slowly, but for bitcoin to really kickoff we need my issues to be resolved too.

Especially point 2) that i made, that one is very critical.

Most guys are for-profit here, and not everyone is a speculator/investor, most people join from poor places and want to earn bitcoin by their labour & skills, and not by buying/investing it.

I think the adoption should happen naturally. I am a proposal of bigger blocks but not at the expense of losing the possibility of decentralized nodes. Even with millions of people using Bitcoin, if Bitcoin's nodes can only be run in specialized servers and people at home can't run a node, that would mean the original idea of Bitcoin as p2p money failed, so we must know what we are doing before putting it in practice.
380  Other / Politics & Society / Re: MARS one on 2025 on: September 05, 2015, 04:35:36 PM
Sounds cool, but what matters to me is the state of Bitcoin in 2025. I hope that by then we are all retired due holding Bitcoin for 10+ years and can see the show nicely on our sofas without having to go to work. If im still working by 2025 and Bitcoin hasn't retired me i'll probably jump off a bridge or something.

ps: Joking (I hope)
