Space pool is back online.  http://pool.midnightminer.net

The pool wallet corrupted it's copy of the blockchain when it ran out of disk space.  It is re-sync'd and back online.

pool.midnightminer.net/ does not work? I have a miner does not start

Good catch!  Appears the disk was full.  We are good now!

EDIT: mining pool is down again.  working on the issue.  I will post when we are running again.

On Yobit - Wallet status: Maintenance

Not again!!!

Our blockchain is healthy, and I have not heard from YObit if there are issues with the wallet code.

Looks like Space will be on NovaExchange soon.  This is a new exchange with small volume, but it is an alternative until we see listings on other exchanges.

Is anyone else trading on Cryptopia or Bleutrade?  Or any other suggestions?

We still have more growth ahead of us before we see listings on Bitrex or Poloniex.

I asked Yobit about this yesterday and they said:

"The solution to this cryptocurrency will take some time, need to update the wallet.
We apologize for any inconvenience."

I wonder what's taking them so long because the wallet has been in maintenance since last sunday maybe even earlier.
I'll see if I can post a ticket again tomorrow, maybe others from the space coin community could do so too.

I also put in a ticket at YObit with a link to my GitHub link with the last few patches I added to the wallet.

We'll see how long this takes...

Don't forget to vote at Cryptopia to add SPACE.  https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Vote

I need some input from community members more literate in Chinese than I am...

Looking a for a good translation of Spacecoin to Chinese (Traditional and Simplified).

My thoughts on the ideal name was:

太空币 = 'outer space coin'  but this is already listed as SpaceCredits (TPC) http://www.xnbzg.com/market.html?symbol=17

So far I have found coins already listed in either Japanese or Chinese with the following names:

宇宙币 CosmosCoin  (CMC) http://www.btc38.com/altcoin/general/90.html

恒星币 Stellar Coin (XLM)

I did not find anything listed with the following name:

深空币 = universe coin / deep space credits / Space Coin?

So anyone with a better understanding of Chineses, Japanese, etc. that could give an opinion if the following name works in Asian cultures, and I am not going to insult or say something stupid?

深空币 Space Coin (SPACE)

Thank you.  谢谢  ありがとう

A quick update on the upcoming Twitter Campaign.

We haven't started the campaign yet, as I am setting up an Electrum wallet for those that want to participate and collect Space Coins without installing a full wallet and waiting for the blockchain to sync.

How does the Electrum wallet work?
Here is the documentation for the Bitcoin version on the wallet.
http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/

I will post the documentation for the Space Coin version soon on http://spacecoin.info as soon as the service is ready.

Does staking also work with the Electrum wallet?

Typically no, they do not stake.  In the roadmap we can add a staking pool if an existing staking pools does not support SpaceCoin, or I can look into added staking payout rewards to the Electrum wallet in the future.

Space Coin Twitter Campaign

We are putting the final touches on the the Twitter Campaign.

To prepare for the campaign make sure you are following @space_coin on your Twitter account so that you do not miss out on any of the ReTweets.
https://twitter.com/space_coin

The Rules and Regulations, guidelines... will be posted at the start on http://spacecoin.info before the start of the campaign.  To make the tracking easier for the rewards, you will need to register your Twitter account name and you Space Address on our website.

Basically the campaign will reward you for retweeting @space_coin tweets and a reward for you original tweets about SpaceCoin based on content and not more that one original tweet in 7 days.  We don't want to see a bunch of Twitter spam.

Let's have some fun!

DO NOT POST YOUR SPACE ADDRESS IN THIS FORUM!!!
It is against the BitCoinTalk forum posting rules.

Hello Dev(s)

I have an performance issue with the Windows wallet. At first I thought it was because the wallet needed to sync. But with a fully synced wallet the wallet uses a lot of CPU.
I believe this is because of the staking mechanism.
When staking is enabled the wallet uses a lot of CPU. It doesn't matter how many cores I assign to the VM it always is above 70%.
With staking turned off it behaves like any other coin.
I don't have this problem with other POS or Hybrid coins on Windows and when I'm running the wallet on Ubuntu 14.04.
Is there anything I can do to reduce the CPU usage on Windows with staking turned on?

I have witnessed similar on SPACE and other PoS wallets.  It is one of the issues I am looking into to fix in a future release.
I have a wallet running on Windows that was used for mining payouts, the wallet had over 15000 entries in the Receive Address.  The wallet was completely unusable because of the Qt wallet was always unresponsive.  I managed to get the address down to 3000 entries and it is still most of the time unresponsive, and the cpu usage as much as is available (but appears to be a single thread, so only one cpu is used).

My ideas or fix options are:
 - include in the wallet a utility to manage the coinbase entries per address (merge, split, move, etc).
 - find the code in the wallet causing the heavy usage (suspect most of it is Qt related).
 - switch to Offline PoS (would require Masternodes)
 - new form of staking.

Thanks for replying midnight_miner. Is POS on or off on that Windows wallet?
I wonder if the wallet would become responsive if POS is turned off.
I have less than 3000 entries in one wallet and with POS turned on the wallet itself wasn't unresponsive. Sometimes it took a bit longer to go to a specific section (+/- 30 sec.) but never unresponsive, just CPU usage of 70% or above.

This is with PoS enabled, however I am doing tests with this wallet to track performance issues, PoS, non-Pos, Qt wallet and daemon only.  So more details as the test and development continues.

Update: I just looked over Vcash, and its very messy and confusing. The dev hardly posts. He has a horrible trust rating. This is an idea, and simply an idea, rebrand to "Vegas coin". I would promote to the gambling sites that I do not own or control to adopt the coin. I simply update the coin and promote it, but would not ever have a gambling site that I own. If you guys like this idea, then I would begin talks again with the original starter of Vegas coin. What do you guys think?

Vegas

... SNIP ...
Multi-mining pool, probably not a good idea either.
As most miners want cash, and or BTC for their mining effort. The only ones that would want Fly for their effort. Would come only
from this small community. From active members from above poll, maybe 30+? And some of us are not miners. If we were a
larger community, then that would be more feasibly. At least we would get more trading volume, and increase the price.
I have thought of a really unique concept, that no other crypto coin has, but need to think it through more. Before presenting this idea
to the community.

Peace, Dennis

You make a very good point about the Multi-Pool.  Unless Vegas/Griffith plans a Multi-pool with other coin options.  Building a Multi-pool that only pays out in one coin is definitely limiting your market.  Also takes time to build a large enough mining pool to generate blocks on popular coins, unless you go p2pool.  This make offers attractive pay-out options key.

... SNIP ...

But, I look over the past few days and there is no vol on Yobit. NOT 1 COIN traded!! I thought for sure when I went to extreme lengths to prove the integrity of fly that we would have a big and active community, and this is not the case. So, Ive done the right thing over and over and over again, and 1 year later, there is no movement on the exchange. So, Ill be honest, I dont know why. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to explain why. In my mind, there is no safer place to put your money.

Vegas

Sorry Vegas & Team FLY, I was one of the ones helping to keep the volume moving on YObit, but I got annoyed with the troll coins crap going on, on YObit and lost interest trading on the site, and pretty much used up my float buying up FLY.

YObit finally put there foot down on the troll / spam coins, so I may head back to YObit for trading.

We hope to have the Twitter campaign ready for the coming week.

You will be rewarded with Space Coins for re-Tweeting SpaceCoin Tweets and Tweeting about Space Coin.

More details when the campaign is near ready.

Also working on the website to fill in information on SPACE and where we plan on going with the coin.  Community suggestions are welcome as always.
WE will post some bounties for translation of the website and the BCT forum soon.

I didn't create a full worksheet like the DASH Masternode ROI calculation but here is a quick model for FLY:

From the Top 100 List I took the balances above 1000 FLY.
  • Potentially 179 Masternodes could be afforded
  • I am assuming a 50% adoption rate at start = 88 Masternodes

Total Coin Supply:    217759.5572
Minus Masternodes:   88000.0000
--------------------------------------
Avail. Staking Coins:129759.5572

If Staking perfectly at 35%,
total staking coin (not compounded):        45415.8500 FLY per annum
If 40% distributed among Masternodes:        206.4357 FLY per annum

Staking the 1000 FLY (not compounded):       350.0000 FLY  per annum

There are two important multipliers not included:

1) Wallet Staking Success: My guess about 75%
So real return for average wallet is 35% * 0.75 = 26.25%
That will trikle down to the Masternodes and reduce their payouts as well.

2) Number of Staking Wallets (at any given time): Probably 80-90% but never 100%

Conclusion:
Everyone and their dog who can afford a Masternode will try to run one in the beginning, but over the course of a couple months the number will be around 20 Masternodes.  At that small number the Masternode owners will make slightly better than staking, but hardly enough to cover the extra cost and time of running one.  The two factors that help make FLY what it is today, is what hinders it in expanding into the more fluid market.  FLY is a long term holding coin with a low coin supply.  Masternodes operate better in a larger coin supply with coins moving to market, be it trade purchases or exchange markets.

But this just means that the Masternodes you create today will operate in a smaller market, and it will take time for FLY to monetize itself on the markets to its true value.  The value of FLY will be based on its strength as a long term coin, and to be successful long term, you need a solid network of wallets, and Masternodes help solidify the network.  So Masternodes are not a bad move at this point, they will add value to the future of FLY.

are you original dev of space ? or why you are so interested in reborn of this project?

Original dev long gone... about 3 weeks after the coin launch.

We are a group of coin holders that for whatever reason, have or are trying to revived the coin.  The coin has survived almost a year with no dev, so why not keep it going!

It has a theme that can have a lot of different roads of development.

Join the fun!

As stated in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1316737.msg15763854#msg15763854

The cost of a Masternode and the compensation for running a Masternode is require some modeling and forcasting to be planned properly.

Waiting for some more information on the plan and for some numbers to be laid out, to see if this will scale proportionally (Masternodes vs. regular wallets).

With Masternodes Fly has the potential to become a decentralized PoSP based on the number of staking nodes compared to the amount of money supply held in staking wallets to control the staking returns.

The Masternodes could modulate the returns to promote better returns on a more active coin rather than a coin with a money supply held in ~100 staking wallets.

Currently:

PoW rewards are 16 per block

PoS rewards are 32 per block, this will drop to 16 at the end of August.

Finally!

Wallet is back online on YObit.  You can now deposit and withdraw your SPACE coins.

I am hoping to see the coin recover to a proper stable price above 200 sats for sure.  There is no reason why this coin should not grow over 1000 sats and higher in the future as the new updates come out.  But, I am biased, I like this coin. Smiley

We hope that ppl continue to submit votes on NovaExchange https://novaexchange.com/addcoin/  and Cryptopia: https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Vote

Having more than one exchange for the coin is better than relying on a single exchange to set the price/value of the coin.

In 3 - 6 months as the promoting efforts of the coin grow we can look at listing on the bigger exchanges.

the project should continued as soon as possible. i have currently one (1) connection on my full node

My block explorer shows 5-6 connections.  Just need a couple more to keep the network stable.

Add this to your Cygnus.conf (in %appdata% directory windows / .Cygnus on Linux)
Code:
addnode=cyg.midnightminer.net
