361  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Make the network stronger and more distributed on: October 06, 2012, 09:38:12 PM
ABCPool is another option ( abcpool.co ). It isn't a pool in its own right, instead it bounces between other pools as a proxy. One way to distribute network hashrate, since it points its power at several different pools throughout the day, from what I understand.
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miners operate the majority of Bitcoin nodes. on: October 06, 2012, 06:34:21 AM
A 51% attack would be fairly easy for anybody with the resources to do so(government) from what I understand..
Just take down Deepbit, BTCGuild, 50BTC, Eclipse, Ozcoin simultaneously.. All of a sudden 2-3 TH is all that's needed to gain 50.1%+ of the network.. am I wrong here?  Seems like the bigger pools need to distribute their hashrates, maybe to multiple Cloud EC2 instances?
363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FATCA on: October 06, 2012, 06:00:23 AM
The US just wants to squeeze as much money out of people as it can, even if it means spending federal money.
More incentive for people to dump fiat and go Bitcoin if you ask me. Bitcoin isn't a financial institution, unless Gavin fucked that one up for us with TBF.
364  Economy / Services / Re: Pay for your phone sex with bitcoin on: October 06, 2012, 05:53:37 AM
When I'm in the mood for this sort of service, I just call 9-11 and ask what the operator is wearing.

funny, but if someone is dying and needed help while you're taking the emergency operator's time then shame on you~
I now believe you are female.

hahaha i can also be cold and heartless though. and my voice sample is on my profile. hard to sound like that if you're a man.

how many BTC for you to write "penetration" on your face?

Jk, I would never pay for such a thing.

Suuuure you were joking...
Degeneracy still isn't funny.
Neither is illusory empowerment.

Where your credentials at? Did you receive your curse training at Online University of Voodoo Training? did they accept your Phoenix credits?

+1. Received order yesterday, quite pleased.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Quantum Computing mean for Bitcoin? on: October 06, 2012, 05:45:52 AM
Quantum computing makes me believe that in some alternate universe, I'm filthy fucking rich smoking blunts and surrounded by bitches all day every day. It also makes me believe that in another alternate universe, I've committed suicide by slitting my throat with a dull edgeless spoon.

Oh right, Bitcoin.
Bitcoin exists, is the global reserve currency, and hasn't been invented yet.
Bitcoin doesn't exist, Satoshi was declared dead upon childbirth, and the Bildeburgs are a homeless poor family of Ethiopians.
Pick one.

OP is FUD.
369  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ATI 5970???? on: October 06, 2012, 05:38:40 AM
7970 hashes almost as hard as a 5970, and does it at almost 2/3rd the watts. Also, 5970's tend to break very easily, rendering 1 of the 2 cores useless... Lots of people complain about one of the cores on their 5970 being bad.
370  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about my Mining Rig on: October 06, 2012, 05:30:43 AM
That PSU should definately do the trick. After doing the math on the 5830's, the 175watts they draw equates to just under 14.6 Amps each. That PSU has the ideal single 12V rail. You should be good to go with it.

375  Economy / Economics / Re: why does it matter who directly takes bitcoin? on: October 06, 2012, 05:08:05 AM
just need to shed the bad skin away from bitcoin, (scam, hacking, etc) for it to be an accepted form of currency in real world merchants eyes.

bitcoin is like US FIAT dollars bank notes.. but painted red to show they know it came from 'POSSIBLE' criminal activity

imagine if someone offered a business $10,000... the merchant would smile.. the second you show them the red bank notes. would they still take it with the same open arms and smiley faces knowing it will show on their books as funds from possible sources with bad reputation and criminal behavior.

we need to get bitcoin green..

"Green" Bitcoins would be worth much less. For now, the majority of Bitcoin's value stems from illegal and otherwise illicit transactions; they keep the value as high as it is. There is little-to-no incentive to purchase BTC right now unless you need them to purchase things that would otherwise be unobtainable with fiat currency, or if you want to make an internet purchase without leaving a paper trail. They can be used to store wealth and hide your financial assets from being taxed, at the cost of not having a bank to insure your assets and secure them as such. If merchants started paying employees in BTC it'd be mutually beneficial to the employer and the BTC market as a whole. The employer would be buying up sell orders on the exchanges, raising BTC's value, and he/she wouldn't have to pay taxes. It'd be the ultimate way to get paid "under the table".
376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [poll] What's your opinion on Bitcoin Foundation? on: October 06, 2012, 04:45:05 AM
The Foundation would've been much better received by the community if those who created it had been a little more transparent in the conception. People like to feel as though they are in control of their financial holdings, and to see something like TBF just pop up out of the blue is troubling to say the least. The implementation of the foundation could've been handled much, much better. It would be surrounded by positive vibes if everybody who contributes to the Bitcoin community had been able to give their 2 cents on the idea, what were essential bylaws for the organization, who should be CEO/board members, etc. What we got instead was an announcement, about an announcement, and a CEO that the majority of Bitcoin users had never even heard of; the implementation of the Foundation was/is laughable, and most likely why the site's been DDoS'd quite a few times since its existance was made public.

To give us a feeling of security, they've stated that any board member can be replaced after serving a multi-year term. What about impeachment? Is the community free to impeach a sitting board member? If not, TBF sucks donkey balls as an organization, and should be abolished immediately. I refuse to be falsely represented by an organization which doesn't even make itself public enough to be audited. It might be time for Gavin to hand the keys over to somebody more aligned with Satoshi's vision.
377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about my Mining Rig on: October 05, 2012, 01:42:07 AM
So I was looking up some geeky hardware stuff on overclock.net and came across some info on the 5830. At stock GPU/memory clocks, the max TDP for 5830 under 99% load is 175 watts. So...

1x Sempron 45w CPU
1x stick of RAM, maybe 2-3w?
1x USB stick, another 2-3w maybe
1x Motherboard power, maybe 20-30w?
3x Radeon 5830, 525w

You're probably fine with that 700w. How many amps on the 12Volt rail and how many seperate rails? Underclocking the memory should cancel out overclocking the GPU..? Your setup should be pulling around 600w from the wall.

379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about my Mining Rig on: October 04, 2012, 08:50:47 AM
The cards should fit fine, but it may be a tight squeeze, and this would lead to heating issues(middle card running especially high temps). If this is the case, get a riser/extender for the middle card, and the top/bottom cards will have ample breathing room.

700w *should* do it, but it's cutting it awfully close. Some of my cards are 5830's, and they draw right around 200w. Be sure to underclock the memory, as GPU memory clocks don't affect hashrate. If you can, run your OS off a thumb drive to give your 700w PSU a little more room to work with, last time I checked, mechanical spinup hard drives can draw about 40w. Avoid using an optical(dvd-rw rom) drive if you can, this will also save you power. You should be fine if you boot from flash/SSD, use a single stick of RAM, and underclock the memory on the cards. Will be close though. Also very important that the PSU has enough Amps running on the 12Volt rail to power the cards. Not sure what the minimum is, but 5830 will run just fine on 18 amps, and alot of PSU's will have multiple 12V rails with 18 amps.

Your cards should get detected fine without crossfiring them if you're using Linux, no special trickery needed. My rigs are running Winblows, and as of last year, I had to/still am make use of VGA "dummy plug"s where you trick your extra cards into thinking they have a display/monitor plugged into them. Involves plugging resisters into specific pins on a VGA adapter; process explained here:  http://www.overclock.net/t/384733/the-30-second-dummy-plug . Not sure if this is still necessary, but I'm still using them. Crossfire will gimp your hashrate by about 10% per card.

Good luck!
