361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Ethereum" founder warns cryptocurrencies ‘could drop to near-zero at any time’ on: February 19, 2018, 05:45:22 PM

Buterin is parroting almost the exact same thing that Gavin Andresen said about bitcoin 4-5 years ago. When lead devs start talking like that it always makes me a little nervous. What insider info do they have that I don’t have? Are they just trying to wash their conscience clean if something they see on the horizon actually happens? That kind of statement is just too valueless and convenient but it does provide a segue to the future statement of, “well, I did warn you people so you can’t blame me.”

Edit: Andresen was a cofounder of The Bitcoin Foundation with Mark Karpeles. Andresen made his statement to that effect shortly before we all found out that Karpeles was about to “lose” a half million bitcoins.

Bitcoin has sold itself as an "economic experiment" since the very beginning, so such statements are nothing new. In fact it is indeed something that needs repeating during times of overinflated expectations. Good observation though. I hope there's nothing bad waiting in the bushes for our fellow ETHers.

I hope there nothing major coming up too. I just find those kind of statements are usually very carefully timed.

I wonder if that was a part of the speech Buterin gave to Peter Thiel when he was sucking his ass for VC money?

Woww,I just now found this thread, and it is good to see the merits are awarded for the bitcoin discussions because most of the merits are only shared in between the meta and local section.

I invite you to review my post history,I don't say i am an expert here but I may contribute a little bit to the discussions over all the section and my posts will be helpful for some of the guys who are looking for suggestions.I hope I can fulfill your requirement and get the merit(s).

I have to say you’ve got the most interesting post history I’ve looked at so far. I would say that you bought your account at some point in 2017 except the language and knowledge base is very similar. You have damn near been here as long as I have except you took several major breaks from the forum. You’ve consistently been an altcoin person and have supported nearly every altcoin variant that’s existed, from ltc to doge and bcash. You're articulate and literate, so if you’ve read the OP and know the rules of the thread then you know I can’t give you merit. Good luck to you though.
364  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 19, 2018, 03:24:22 PM

I am new but here I am studying and following some bounty programs and I have got the token that goes into wallet, it is very meaningful for me join this bitcointalk forum
I want to raise my level so I can contribute in bitcointalk bounty program not just follow from twitter and facebook because now i am new so can not follow bounty bitcointalk program that must level up first.

Wow, now that’s a new approach. Here’s a paraphrase of your statement. “I’m everything you can’t stand about what’s happening to this forum. I need merit to help pollute it and make it usless for discussions because I only care about cryptocurrency as a temporary way to make money.”
365  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 19, 2018, 03:13:06 PM
Below is the link to post history for your reference and if it fits your criteria as mentioned. A stepping stone to success is to keep working towards your passion and keep learning to make progress for future. With this passion awaiting for the question if the need be.

I’m sorry, you don’t qualify according to the rules stated in the OP.

Thanks for stopping by.
366  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 18, 2018, 03:06:15 PM
This article is very helpful thanks. Which is still a question mark why sapai now I can not describe the merit to others? Time smerit me 0. how can i get smerit?

You post in this thread, “KOREKSI BITCOIN- KAPAN WAKTU TEPAT UNTUK INVESTASI”.  Take a look at your posts there. You see how someone likes your post? It says, “Merited by masfaii (1), lumokupong21 (1)”

That is how you get merit. Someone likes your post and gives merit to you. When someone gives you merit, like in that post of yours, then you have merit that you can give to someone that writes a post that you like. When you give away merit you do not lose the merit you have.

Time will not give you merit. Good posts give you merit.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: i hav 0.5 btc ... on: February 18, 2018, 02:57:16 PM
If you posted, “I have 0.5 extra btc that I’m willing to lose.” Then I would help you find somewhere to gamble it and maybe become a lucky winner. Any “investment” has the potential to take all of your btc away.

A sound investment for someone without much money is to hold what you have and add any extra fiat to that slowly as you earn it through a regular job. Take all the money that you would rot your teeth with every month (buying sweets and soft drinks) and add that to your btc holdings. Pick a thing that you spend money on every month that you don’t really need and buy bitcoin instead (I suggest dumping your girlfriend, you wouldn’t believe how much money you can save with that one alone). Bitcoin has the potential to increase by 100%, 200%, 300% or more in a short time. That’s the least risky investment you will find around here.

SCAM ALERT: Resisting Rickard’s Road to Ruin Gold Racket

An impending “government’s secret plan to freeze your money” is part of the same rant as Jim Rickard’s previous warnings about a ” 70% stock market crash”, “$100 trillion meltdown” and  A “coming catastrophe”.  None of these happened.   Yet, Jim Rickards continued to bombard consumers with spam in webpages and email with his doomaggedon rants.   But Rickards isn’t sharing his alarmist point of view out so that unsuspecting US citizens can protect themselves.   No, Mr. Rickards wants your money.   He’s selling you on his doom-saying book about how money is no longer safe as well as a site called “Money Morning” which houses other doom merchants and scaremongers.

Great catch! I really woudn't have believed it either way, but it's nice to have a peek on his motivations. He has already predicted the economy to fail quite a few times, so it only makes sense for him to jump on the bandwagon of crypto. He even (again) tied it to a global market collapse. Man this guy is hilarious.

I'm guessing he will release a book on crypto soon? I mean, he did single out Bitcoin, so he could advise his followers, if he even has any, to take shelter on other cryptos to avoid the inevitable collapse.

I think you’re spot on. He hasn’t been able to sell his books on the end of the world to mainstream investors so he’s going to try and milk the teat of the crypto world. Well Mr. Rickards, fuck off we ain’t buyin it.

You should have the time to read their OP or you really probably don't deserve their time or merit; would you say that's fair?

It is very clear what the rules/expectations are in the OP. I would answer more directly, but all I would do is quote OP entirely.

I already read the OP and here is his/her statement:
Quote
You will ask me to research your post history and direct me to 10-20 posts that you believe show you have a deep desire to learn about, use, and support bitcoin. I will then ask you a couple of questions about how bitcoin works and you will answer them. I don’t care if you take some time to research the answer if you come up with the correct answer.

From this I can understand that he will search our post history by himeself but most of the people are posting their links to their posts includes you thats why I asked like that bro.

You’re right, I do look at all of your post history. I ask you to list posts that you feel deserve merit because you may need help understanding what is valuable enough to receive merit. If you can’t figure out how to post effectively you will never receive any merit other than what I give you in this thread. I’m not giving away enough for anyone to rank up without additional work.

You are an example of this concept. Your posting style is either very fast and you don’t spend enough time reviewing or English is a second language for you. You will need your average post to become more intelligible in order to rank up.

You say repeatedly that bitcoin is the “king of crypto” so I know you appreciate bitcoin but you are very much an altcoin supporter. I believe you primarily came here to make money but are attempting to really participate in discussions, at least in the altcoin sections. I’m afraid I can’t award you merit right now. You’re going to need a little more history before I can help you.
Thank you for giving your worthy time to reviewing my posts. Smiley
Yeah english is not my native language but I can say that I am really good at speaking in english because I am an graduate from one of the top university in the world.Yeah,I agree that I am still rookie in the crypto world.
Yes,I know bitcoin is the king of crypto and it will be forever(in my opinion). But I support altcoins too because it is also important for the future of bitcoin,if bitcoin is the only crypto made then it will become unusable due to high demand, like what happend at end of 2017 high trnasaction fee and days to wait to get a confirmed transaction.
Yeah I will contribute all the way because I have more free time to spend on the forum than before and I am not really concentrating on getting merits. But I would like to participate in the Q/A,I hope I can answer it and get some merits. Smiley

Look at this douche nozzle:

He’s just pissed off because he hasn’t gotten laid since 1973. He missed the bitcoin boat and now he wants to buy in cheap so he’s talking a lot of shit about bitcoin. His predictions have been wrong about 80% of the time. I don’t know why anyone would buy one of his books because he’s a known scammer.

I don’t have much Merit to give but I’m going to give it up until it’s all gone. I’m not sure if this is the right section for this thread because I’m not really selling anything. It’s about accounts so I’ll just leave it here until someone decides to move it. I don’t know if this is wrong to do. I don’t care if I get negative trust for doing this because I don’t buy anything here, sell anything here, join signature campaigns or post routinely in threads that even show the trust rating. Essentially I don’t make money here so I don’t use trust anyway.

I felt sorry for SOME of the members that posted in the merit thread. They seemed to be fairly articulate, fairly knowledgeable, rational and really trying to be members of this group of dreamers (community).

Here’s how it’s going to work. You’re not just going to beg for merit and I give it. Do not PM me and offer to pay me for merit points. Your money means nothing to me. I have given away more bitcoin than you will likely earn while on this forum (just ask Gleb Gamow if you don’t believe me). I will report you to a mod that will give you negative trust for being a potential scammer. That just means I’ve made you learn more about bitcoin than you knew previously.

Bitcoin does not mean altcoin. I know altcoins are more popular on this forum than bitcoin. I don’t care. I will only help bitcoiners level up. If most of your post history is in altcoin threads I won’t help you. I do not consider Bitcoin Cash to be bitcoin. If you don’t know what the real bitcoin is then you haven’t been here long enough for me to help you. Which leads me to the group I’m willing to help.

New members, Newbies, Jr Members and Members don’t need any merit. They don’t have enough post history to judge so I won’t be helping them.

Full members, Sr. Members and Hero Members really got screwed with the merit system. Some of them were really close to leveling up and now have to wait until they’ve impressed the right person to probably get only one merit point from them. The most extreme case of this is Hero Member. They may need hundreds of merit points to level up which could take a very long time to get.

You will be working for 20 merit points. Good luck to all. I will announce when they’re gone and lock the thread.

If you don't care about the things i care about, just go away..
Wow! How..er..um..Legendary?
Sheesh.

I gave you a merit point.

I think you are correct .

I do not think the op is correct to exclude altcoin and reward bitcoin .  But I also think he is entitled to give his points anyway he wants since the points are his to give. Meanwhile enjoy the merit.

I’ve said before in this thread that I don’t know enough about altcoins to be able to judge the quality of their participation but you do. I would love to see one of these type threads start in the altcoin section and one in each local sub for non English speaking people.

Why don’t you start a thread in altcoin discussion since you’ve been a core altcoin person for a long time? It would be a great service to your community and it would help people become involved in altcoins. Or, if not you, maybe you know someone that could do it.

I gave you 1 point   as it is a good suggestion  and I will take you up on it.

You da man. Thanks

Edit: oh, let me know the link when you start it so I can put it in my OP.

It would be great if you can ask me some questions. I'd just like some Q/A session about bitcoin, which would atleast make me learn some new things.

That's really funny, because I'm interested in the same thing; I want to be challenged. Pugman, since OP only has so much time and there are so many other members that would benefit from their time, maybe you and I should start a thread where we ask members Q & A; this would mean we would have to do extensive research, but it might be fun for those that are actually interested in discussing bitcoin on a much more nuanced and informative level. We would have to think of the questions, maybe QuestionAuthority would throw us a bone now and then, but I'm not sure what our incentive would be to bring people into the thread other than stimulating conversation (which should be enough, anyways).

I think that’s an excellent idea. I’m really trying not to clutter this thread with too much unnecessary chatter for fear I will miss someone that’s here for merit.

I’ll throw you a bone. LOL  You could ask things like, “What is bitcoin’s Mempool? What does it do, what is held there and where is it’s physical location on the network?”

Maybe you could do something like give a merit for the first correct answer.

Same, I'm in..
I want the challenge myself and have a good bit of smerit to give away too...
PM if you want or drop a link if you get something rolling..

Thanks OP..

I’m not the one doing that. When pugman and bill gator send me the link I’ll post it here.

I don’t speak your language so it’s impossible for me to look at your entire post history. The posts you directed me to are broken English but I get the idea of what your trying to say. I appreciate your attempt to integrate into the larger forum by posting in English and that is a good way to learn a second language. I’m going to give you 5 because I don’t know how people in the local subs are ever going to rank up.
378  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 17, 2018, 02:23:24 PM
You say that a forum member needs to talk just about bitcoin. Yes, bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency and turned the world upside down. But all becomes outdated and there are new altcoins who are changing the world of cryptocurrency for the better. Bitcoin uses POW algorithm and a long transaction, it is now becoming unprofitable and many understand it.
About gaining merit. I believe that the main reason for the introduction of merit is the limitation of the number of participants in the bounty companies. Users want to increase their rank just to earn more than now and it's normal. The merit that will be presented by you will still be used for earnings on bounty companies, that is, for earnings on altcoins. I understand you were one of the first members who created and supported this forum and you certainly deserve respect, but the capitalization of altcoins is growing and more and more people trust them and want somehow to capitalize on this.

I agree with you about altcoins. I’ve said before that altcoins have a place and theymos rightly gave them a section to brainstorm and foster a sense of community. You have to understand I’m not this forum, I don’t work here, I’m not a moderator or administrator. I don’t make money here and I support bitcoin. The people in this thread are asking me for merit, they are not asking the forum for merit. There are people in the altcoin section giving out merit.

You don’t understand the issues concerning bitcoin or how to correct them. PoW does not make bitcoin unprofitable. PoW is simply a method of generating new coins and securing the network. PoS, while more environmentally friendly, allows a few empowered stakeholders to lord over the masses (even with randomization). Bitcoin’s blockchain doesn’t need to be as long and unwieldy as it is. SPV clients solve that issue as will eventual pruning. Bitcoin’s temporally high transaction fees and long block times will eventually be solved by increasing the block size or with a second layer solution. I suppose I’m the kind of person that would prefer to fix what’s already working and established rather than chucking it all out and starting over.

This thread is really cool; I've been doing something similar, but since I am not a source I've been pretty consistently low on merit since the start. It would be pretty cool to take part on your "game show" you've got running here.

I seem to have been spending a lot of my time recently in the Meta section, but I assure you I am very interested in becoming more informed about Bitcoin. In fact I gave dacoinminster a merit after reading through previous replies and doing some research on omni. Hadn't heard of that until reading through the thread, actually.

Your questions are good, the criteria are even better; I like what you're doing and wouldn't mind if it helped me to learn more and continue my similar thread.
