The essence why people buy Bitcoin is for profit maximization, that is the primary reason of every Bitcoin investor. Even if they are not investing to enjoy the profit themselves, they may invest so that their children can harvest the investment in the future. It could be that they have make a decision to sell their Bitcoin when the price have reach all time high so that they can invest in another project.
If not for the profit I don't think people will have much interest in bitcoin if not for that profit. They won't give much value as a currency. A lot of investors invest to make money for them self and only few have there kids in mind. I will admit that I'm a gambler, but I never went to far as to sell my property just continue with my gambling addiction. But at that time their judges is really clouded and we might say that they really don't know what they are doing. It has always been advised not to hold your assets in exchanges. it is a very risky venture to do so.
As for metamask, I have been using it for years and I have had no security isssues using them. I speak for myself though, someone might have a contrary opinion.
I keep most of my assets on exchanges and a small part in my personal wallet, but so far I haven't encountered any significant problems either. If you save it on an exchange, save your password carefully and use all the double security features, if you save it in a personal wallet, save your recovery password carefully and don't connect your wallet to any site. This has been tackled up in a lot of discussion that its never good to store your asset on exchange since there might issue to rise and your asset will be in trouble if scam happens. For now you might not experience yet those issue but remember that FTX is a reputable exchange before but unfortunately they became scam and put a lot of their platform user in trouble, That's why its important to know about Not your keys not your coins keyword so that you will always be aware on this matter and move on possibly your funds to exchange then locate those wallets that you can truly trust the more. In my case, I have a very close friend who used to post here (I convinced him to come here) back in 2017-2018. Merit system discouraged him and stopped posting (he was about to rank up when the new policy came into force). In fact, it also happened to me, at a lower degree.
I've been recently insisting him to come back, but he works many hours and the little time he has left he needs to rest, apart from the fact that here in Spain people don't often communicate in English so his level is quite low, which makes it even harder for him to participate in any discussions here apart from the ones held in our local board.
Merit system expose lazy people and their intention since they will not last long here since they might find it hard and state a lot of reason then quit. For me they should be compensated according to the stress they got from the incident and FTX management done wrong so its really good to give something more to those depositor so that they will be happy with refund plan to be executed by them. We can't bring the conspiracy theory here that is happening mostly on sports. Maybe sports could be rig, but this election? Even if LL is away, AFAIK there is the team that works for bitvest to process payments and its operations.
And as you create a ticket, you have to wait again until a rep looks at it to do the process for you. But, you should have made one before when it took more than 6-12 hours up to a day.
