361  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Starting a Bitcoin Node using a VPS on: February 06, 2024, 06:38:42 AM
I do not believe that Contabo sets up a bitcoin node for you though - I think you have to do that yourself, and that they only supply suitable hardware for it.
Why don't you believe? It's already shown that an image is already prepared for launch. I think it would be setup already, probably have to add something before it starts, maybe the blockchain is downloaded or something once they have launched your VPS.

It probs includes the bitcoin core daemon and client themselves, but I have never seen a VPS host automatically run software on your box when you boot it. The exception is Docker containers, but these are not Docker containers.

You would have to do that yourself. Ergo, that means you have you manually start Bitcoind to sync the node, which means that the nodes are not fully synced at boot if at all (besides do you really think the images are kept up to date with the current blocks and chainstate? That would be expensive for them to store that AND keep backups/snapshots of all the images daily.)
I understand where you are coming from. It definitely needs to be updated or launched then sync it manually. I'm just curious if somebody else here has done this. I might get some more information or something with this.

Since the cost does not include enough space for a full node how much does it cost to go to 1TB for storage?
It's not much work to do a quick pre-install of BTC and then bill you at a profit for bandwidth overages and storage overages.

Remember, most if not all hosts give you X bandwidth and even if you are doing your initial sync from a local node to your local node and never touching the internet that bandwidth still counts against your monthly total.

If you have the bandwidth at home or wherever, I have been doing these for people:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7GKG3PZ/ref=syn_sd_onsite_desktop_0?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_plhdr=t&aref=akpWrBFv5f&th=1
take out the 512GB drive that comes with it and put in a 1TB. For under $250 you have a NEW machine that does not pull too much power that can more then then run a node + electrum server and a LN server if you want.

-Dave
It adds another $32, so it's going to be every month. I think it's better to have your route and have a mini PC instead. I haven't thought about that approach and planning to do a node and that LN server.

Is the mini PC you linked enough already? The 12th gen of Intel Alder Lake N100 is good already, right? What else can you do with it aside from being a node, electrum server, and LN server?

Those are some really cheap VPS, is the first time i read about Contabo, they have nice reviews in trust pilot, and I'm tempted now to get one VPS with them. I'm not sure if i will use it for running a BTC node, but other coins node could be a good option.
What type of nodes do you plan to run with this? I'm looking for something to do as well if ever I plan to run on a mini PC or VPS.
362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dead Coins: Over 50% of Cryptocurrencies Have Failed on: February 06, 2024, 06:10:07 AM
Thanks for giving this reference OP. It's a great thing to ponder about and it just shows how much a lot of people have rode the hype and probably made a plan to create something that hopefully would stick. It's just that all around the world, the ones that would stay are the ones who have a lot of backing and maybe the most unique way. I do hope that there will be a way to determine what cryptocurrency will stay.

It's important to note as well that a coin could have failed but it might not be a scam it is still important to be vigilant

TBH, I thought that the percentage might be higher, but that's still a lot. Not every coin that died is a scam, that's for sure, but in the end, it doesn't really matter.
I think at the rate that we are seeing or the number of negative outcomes of different cryptocurrency projects that surround us, here in the forum, it's likely become anchored to that because of the part where we see so much here that didn't work versus that worked. It can be higher too with all the negativity and possible scams that are happening around us.
363  Economy / Economics / Re: Carbon markets and climate change mitigation, Are we in the right direction? on: February 05, 2024, 03:59:08 PM
In my experience in the field of work, I try to research how to mitigate that and I think a lot of people and students as well are focusing on these types of problems. I do hope that somehow there will be a game changer with a product that could alleviate all the problems. It's definitely affecting everyone if we don't do something about those carbon emissions that makes the world even warmer.

In terms of the carbon market, we are definitely in a weird part where it can affect climate change but not to the point of really mitigating it because of the verifying factor if it is really being protected and offsetting their carbon foot print in the communities most affected. That's probably why there are people who think it is a scam or something. It's an initiative but there can be a more quality project that might be really effective.

364  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Management on: February 05, 2024, 03:30:51 PM
How did it become indiscriminate? Is it because you lack care about your habits? I think it's the person's responsibility to know and have self-control with what you are doing in your life. You need to be aware of what strategy you are trying to do. It's best that you have a strategy for handling how you are going to use it in gambling. The limits you put yourself is the important thing.
365  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The "loaded slots" scam on: February 04, 2024, 04:17:00 PM
Those "believers" that make things to make it bearable to continue to gamble? Those are just things that make up the gambling world with deceit and make you feel like you have a chance. I think the modern world needs to have an understanding of how they could be done but in general, there's no such thing as just the edge of the casino. Maybe they just want the feel of winning and that they have somehow a chance for it.

367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: KuCoin Spot Grid Bot on: February 04, 2024, 03:32:31 AM
Grid bot is more on the active side in bots, you need to determine the range, grid levels, etc. You need to set it up depending on the market volatility. You need to decide how you are going to handle Bullish or Bearish trends. I don't think it can be a long-term or a set-and-forget type. You need a different strategy or a more robust bot like Gunbot
368  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: February 04, 2024, 03:26:12 AM
Sainz and Hamilton will give a hard time for the team but I guess in this case they can have penalties on their salary and they can be benched for the 3rd driver.
This will only be bad if they take it personally, but the Mercedes team and Lewis have definitely a professional relationship and I don't think they will have a hard time. It's just that their contract and loyalty to Lewis weren't any more up to par with Mercedes that's why he wanted to be in a team that actually wants him, and yearly contracts for Lewis aren't gonna cut it. I think I understand why Lewis decided that.
369  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Investment in gambling on: February 03, 2024, 08:06:40 AM
I believe that in any investment, there are risks involved that you can never really eliminate. The best way is to make it really low and have that possibility of earning. Ponzi schemes have been rampant because of the wants or greediness of individuals activating their inner greediness to invest in that Ponzi scheme. I think investing in a Ponzi definitely is a bad idea because it's clearly a marketing ploy, but making sure that it's legal is the important thing.

Risk in investments and risk in gambling is quite different but tied up to luck I guess as well.
370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be stolen? on: February 03, 2024, 07:36:59 AM
It turns out that Bitcoin stealers target not only big companies but individual users with modest amounts in their crypto wallets.
I think Zhong had the advantage of being in early and having the opportunity to be part of the space and try out different stuff. It's probably a lucky coincidence that he had to double-click the withdraw button and just took advantage of it.

It's definitely different from the story you are posting about actual hackers who hack people to get their money. Finding a flaw in a website versus actually brute-forcing or getting someone's seed phrases is different.
371  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: February 03, 2024, 06:48:06 AM
The name didn't come out on that discussion but I found this one post.

In 2020-2022 he was contacted by Toto for test day but his not available. The reason, he is busy. Now, he is coming out to talk. That one comment there though was hilarious. Grin
Oh that is a funny post but might be an interesting discussion lol. Grosjean has been out for a while, right? He is in IndyCar right now? Maybe he can go back now but it might be a terrifying thing for him remembering the Bahrain GP in 2020.  Shocked

Who do you think it will be? Wild guess? It would be fun if there's a line in sportsbet about this. The odds input though will be difficult.
Definitely a hard thing to bet on but it can be a fun and interesting one to participate in. Maybe Sainz or Albon? Since he will be likely exchanging seats. He has had a strong performance in Ferrari, why not move that performance to Mercedes? Or Albon, maybe he could have a great duo with Russells, since close age right? We will see. That's just my opinion.
372  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Learning comes before earning on: February 03, 2024, 06:40:47 AM
I like how you said "newborns". Are you a newborn baby? Lol.

Anyway, I get your logic in that people are just trying to make money and discovering that trading is one of them. I believe that in the right ways you can. Learning trading with the right references, tools, and peers would help you achieve the right mindset in order to make money. It's really that point in our lives to focus and be patient with it.

That's one of the main focuses that it's not easy money and fast money that would be helpful for us in the long term. The attitude is really important.
373  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [New Trading Pair] Automated Trading Challenge - Starting out at $1000 on: February 02, 2024, 03:42:01 PM
How is your trading experience with that KuCoin bot? I haven't tried it. I agree that it's a good move because I don't think it can be a good long-term HODL for XRP. I remember the higher-ups there, who holds a lot, sold so many times and I don't think it's ok as an investor to invest in something the devs are selling to.
It is okay. I dont have any problem with the platform so far. Not really successful but it is mostly because i am still learning, finding what coin will better used by which bot. Also i dont use future and leverage so it is more challenging to get profit. But i do get some useful knowledge.

Planning to put some into rebalance bot to cash them in when btc break ath. And their newest bot, trend bot which is just moving average bot would be my favorite if it use more than half of the capital. It only use half of the capital which is limiting the profit. Martingale bot no idea as i heard it has bug. Grid bot probably great if used for semi stable big cap coin. Tried with high volatility coin as the guide said and it is my biggest mistake. Or maybe i setup it in wrong market condition as i created it in the beginning of bear market lol
Probably a lot of things can be done in that bot as well but you probably can't take advantage of specific and minute parameters that you can change in terms of the possible indicators that you could edit. For Gunbot, you can be precise in what you are trying to trade and the specific type of strategy you are planning to do.
374  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Starting a Bitcoin Node using a VPS on: February 02, 2024, 03:36:12 PM
Whilst it is great that they're able to include a container image for this, it isn't difficult to run a few commands to download Bitcoin Core. If you have to update Bitcoin Core in the near future, you would also have to do it yourself.
I agree that it's going to be easy but at least they could set it up for you if that's the goal of your VPS.

400gb disk capacity should not be enough for a full btc node now.
It is not enough, you can see the right side on the screenshot that it recommends to add more storage.

375  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Rigging in sports:My Personal Perspective and discussion finding sus. sports on: February 02, 2024, 03:25:58 PM
I think it's really evident that there is money, especially big money, involved in traditional sports and even esports today. I remember someone being accused in the Dota 2 eSports scene where the coach bet on his team to lose and made a bunch of money. It's definitely one way to really be an asshole to the game you are playing for your personal benefit. The integrity is lost and the competitive edge is lost.

Definitely deserve some imprisonment or something severe as punishment.
376  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: February 02, 2024, 12:15:28 AM
Andretti weren't accepted just because other teams don't want to get another competitor and share prize money with them. After all, this team have long history in multiple racing series and they would come to F1 with bigger ambitions than Haas for example.
Isn't it because it wouldn't be that much of a competition for them? As a whole? Like not so much experience and wouldn't add value to the F1 since they are more into the IndyCar series and races? The drivers are particularly supportive of adding more competitors but maybe the F1 management is not agreeing with it. Maybe in the 2028 season?
377  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: If Someone Sends Funds to a Previously-Used Address, Will I Still Receive it? on: February 01, 2024, 04:44:49 PM
Usually, the automated new wallets are for the following things:
  • Enhanced Security
  • Increeased Privacy

I could only think of a few reasons why you would use previously used addresses:
  • Preventing errors (no sending to wrong addresses)
  • Organizing the addresses with how you are receiving them and assign applications (savings, business, etc)

As long as you follow all the members who have posted before me, you could be safe in terms of reusing your address. Make sure you are in control.
378  Economy / Economics / Re: Quitting Smoking Has Two Big Benefits. on: February 01, 2024, 04:33:20 PM
Imagine having that much expense in a month and it's making it worse for yourself. It's really hard to stop if you are really used to something but the best thing is to really know that you should be focusing on making yourself better. So it's a win-win for you, save money and health expenses. I hope you stay motivated and take care of the people around you as well.
379  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: February 01, 2024, 04:28:05 PM
There is some huge news circulating like Hamilton is going to sign for Ferrari for 2025 season.  Shocked
Ending his career in a Ferrari might be nice. I think I'm just not used to seeing him in red. Maybe those few years are his last years and he wants to end his career in that team. I'm not sure how he will fare well with LeClerc but it can be interesting to watch. I hope they can really fight for the top spot. Excited for the next year.  Roll Eyes
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Binary Trade Better or Better to Buy and Hold Bitcoin? on: February 01, 2024, 03:28:27 PM
It depends on what you are trying to do, if you want to earn you can trade. If you want to be sure, you could hold.

The best thing you could do is to automatically trade and have a strategy for HODL-ing, Dumping, and just swinging and making sure you profit. I have been doing this using my Gunbot so I'm currently happy with this. Just make sure you don't put all your eggs in one basket.
