3601  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S3 B4/B3 on: July 15, 2014, 12:20:48 PM
Do any of you know when purchasing S3 late batch 3 or batch 4 will be available?

Thanks,

Antminer S3 Batched currently sold were having issues in achieving the hash rate specified.
So, they are issuing a refund in proportion to the amount of under spec.
Batch 1, 2 and 3 are now only having 441Ghs/340W against the original 478Ghs/366W (Earlier it was 504Ghs/390W).
During the mass production they found the DC-DC controller are not stable and that forced them to reduce it to 441Ghs/340W.
Since they are selling underclocked and they need some time in correcting and redesigning the Batch 4 S3 may be a little bit delayed.

Well summarized.  I'm hoping that the batch 4 units correct the initial problems we're seeing with the batch 1/2/3 units and they give the originally quoted 504GH/s @ 390W.  Honestly, I hope they could do a little better power-wise and get that 504GH/s @ 350W, but that's very unlikely to happen given the power requirements of the chip itself.

Over 1Ph/s!
We've been flirting with the 1PH/s rate over the past week.  I've seen it go up to 1.1PH/s, then down to 450TH/s.  Right now, I show 743TH/s.  What really needs to happen is that the pool rate drops to like 50TH/s... the share difficulty drops to like 250k... I get about 1000 shares... then we shoot up to 2PH/s and solve 10 blocks in a row Smiley
3603  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: how to mine bitcoin without a pool? on: July 15, 2014, 11:31:30 AM
If you solo mine with small amount of power, it would be like winning the lottery. Some people have turned old USB hardware thats not profitable as a miner, and turned them into a "lottery ticket". Its possible but not likely. You would be better off join a pool.
I'm one of those.  I have 5 Antminer U2 sticks that I use to solo mine.  I haven't solved a block yet, but the cost to run the things is minimal (they are controlled by a raspberry pi) so I keep it going.  Chances are exceedingly slim that I will solve a block, but why not let them hash away and try?  The earnings on a pool are dust anyway.
3604  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much GHs should I have? on: July 15, 2014, 11:26:12 AM
Hello!
I am thinking about mining in a p2pool node. I don't know how much GHs should I have to get a decent profit. Can you tell me? Is 180 GHs enough?

Kindly,
        MZ
Well, you need to decide what "decent profit" means to you.  Will 180GH/s get you payouts on p2pool?  Sure it will.  That being stated, at current difficulty ratings, you can expect that 180GH/s to find you a share about every 16.5 - 17 hours or so.

Realize that an S1 at current difficulty levels, in a perfect world, would earn you about 0.0052BTC a day.
3605  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New venture, lets talk profitability and ROI on: July 14, 2014, 10:37:05 PM
I convinced him on crypto currencies. It didn't take much as I've been pushing it for the past year now. After he was sold on the innovation aspect of it, we wanted to look into exploiting opportunities.
Interesting choice of phrases, "exploiting opportunities." This infers that you wish to get into mining for profit.  Understand that the markets are exceptionally volatile, and that there is no "get rich quick" scheme here... those days are long since over, and only a lucky few who jumped on the wagon early made out.

Mining is a very finicky business.  The hardware is just one of a dozen moving parts.  There's power and cooling.  There's difficulty increase.  There's fluctuation in coin value.  Alternative currencies come and go.

If this is a for-profit venture, you need to treat this like any other volatile market investment, with the added complexities of purchasing, managing, maintaining and reselling hardware.

I dont understand that can some one explain what im missing ? im clearly not seeing it

Cheers

Poor coding?  Obviously that user exploremore has not found those blocks, since blockchain.info reports those blocks being found by GHash.io.  My guess is that you're seeing information pulled from GHash about payouts and shares.
3607  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New venture, lets talk profitability and ROI on: July 14, 2014, 09:51:56 PM
Hello all, I recently joined and ended my bitcointalk surfing spree. Anyways, I was able to convince my father to mine crypto currencies. As an investment in mining hardware we need to find out if this will be worth our while. We have $30,000 USD to invest in the full setup (see post in hardware if you want to suggest types of mining bundles) and want to know what we can expect with a return on our investment and how profitable this could be.

I look forward to your help.
Alex
What are the reasons you want to get into mining?  You said you convinced your father to mine.  Why?  What are you looking to get out of this venture?
3608  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hopefully starting up, have questions about hardware. on: July 14, 2014, 09:03:49 PM
In a few months, once all of the planning is done and we're aimed and ready to fire at some alt coins.
Oh... alt coins.  Are you planning to stick to a particular algorithm (SHA-256, scrypt, X11, etc) or to mix and match?  Currently (and for the foreseeable future) only SHA-256 and scrypt algorithms have dedicated purpose-built hardware for mining.
3609  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Strange Problems on: July 14, 2014, 08:51:50 PM
Hadn't thought of trying via ssh

Just tried via putty, and no joy. It says that the connection is refused

How do you mean by hacked and power cycle?

I've rebooted at the PSU every time it goes idle now as I can't reboot via the web gui
Silly question: are you sure you used the correct port for the SSH connection when trying to hit it with putty?  It seems odd that you can't get to that miner by either the web UI or putty.

Do you have it set to DHCP?  Has it picked up a different IP address?

Well I've been in here since the beginning and I still don't know what the price is.. I know there was an email with speculation but i don't remember any solid pricing being discussed.
I've also been following this thread since the start.  Initially the post stated bitmadrid was aiming for a $4500 price point.  Obviously he's come down some since then, but there has been no definitive price point set yet.
3611  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Strange Problems on: July 14, 2014, 08:33:36 PM
Can you access it via SSH?

Since it appears to be hashing away happily, do you really have a need to actually access the web console?  Are you still experiencing the random "idle" periods?
3612  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hopefully starting up, have questions about hardware. on: July 14, 2014, 08:23:38 PM
Hello all, so I've created an account and ended my bitcointalk surfing. Anyways, my father is interested in mining from a investment standpoint. I will post in "Mining Speculation" about the ROI and profitability in our new side project so keep your comments hardware based please.

We are doing our research but I have always found the best answers are from those with the most experience. We want to create a revenue stream from mining with an initial investment of $30,000 USD. The parts need to be able to scale to a higher mining capacity once things start up and running with success. Of course, we need to be realistic here and make sure this will be worth our while.

I'd love to hear your perspective on the situation and any advice on different hardware we can use.

Thanks,
Alex
In addition to hardware, you need to think about power and cooling needs.  As RoadStress points out, ordering 6 of the SP30s will get you 36TH/s, but that burns your entire budget on hardware alone.

Are you looking to start immediately, or at some point in the future?  This will determine what hardware you have available to you.
3613  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: multiple devices on: July 14, 2014, 08:19:01 PM
The S1 is a stand-alone miner.  You could run the rockminer together with the USB one though.

You can certainly point all to the same pool.
3614  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [600 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: July 14, 2014, 07:40:45 PM
the pool average is 11.8%.. so 5% is wasted.  I didn't check, but it wouldn't surprise me if p2pool.org does have a 2% fee.

which goes back to Mike Hearn's post - people don't know how p2pool works so they'll just say "11.8% is wasted, lolz, [insert pool name here] is so much better and they charge a lower fee than p2pool charges" and they think p2pool.org is "The P2Pool."

It's unfortunate that p2pool.org doesn't present itself better.

M
That's the truth.  What's also unfortunate is that people automatically assume that node is "the" p2pool node - like whonesta claiming that all p2pool is bad because one node charges 2%.
3615  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Spondoolies-Tech SP30 - Specs: 6TH/s + 0.46W/GH on: July 14, 2014, 07:30:11 PM

This group buy of 1petaHash will raise diff by 5%. Crazy that a petahash is such a small percentage now...

isn't the hash rate over 100 PH/s, so 1 PH/s wouldn't even raise it by 1%

Oops, totally. I meant 0.5%. I figured by the time these were delivered we'd be around 200 PH. We are at 126PH.
Silly little decimal points Smiley

I, too, am looking forward to seeing what kind of a discount bitmadrid is able to secure with Guy and the SP-Tech folks.  Here's to hoping it's under $4000.
3616  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How high do you think the S3's will clock to? on: July 14, 2014, 07:17:00 PM
Well, with Bitmain coming out today and stating that the anticipated hashing rate of 478GH/s caused problems, I doubt there will be much success in over clocking these at all - at least batch 1/2/3.

I'm actually going to go the other route, as philipma1957 alluded to.  If these can be under clocked to get 400GH/s at about 275W, I'll throw 4 of them on and EVGA G2 1300.  Now, with Bitmain also offering coupons/discounts for those of us that ordered the first batch, I'll most likely grab a few more depending on the under clocking results.

Help me please, guys. My wallet sync is messed up,i downloaded bootstrap.dat but I dont know how to setup it to the bitcoin wallet, answer below or add me on skype - downloadas2 , thanks.
You never really explained what you meant with your statement that your sync is messed up.  From your statements, I can only assume that you've downloaded the Bitcoin-QT core software and have started it up.

Try this post here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145386.0

That should point you in the right direction.
3618  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for BTC Earning Game script, i wanna host gaming site.Anyone know ? on: July 14, 2014, 06:56:02 PM
But no casino pls, an earning game would be good

Have you tryed to think something about a MMORPG game where the user can use a money which you'll choice (MMORPGcoin for example)?

how should i create that, i am looking for a turnkey solution
There are plenty of services that will create coins for you.  That's not the challenge.  The challenge is to get people to accept the coin you've created.
3619  Other / Archival / Re: [help] how to get 1 btc in 1 week on: July 14, 2014, 06:49:04 PM
You have a few options:

1) Sell something you own
2) Perform a service

Writing a blog of your experiences in Palastine and asking for donations would be considered a service.  Do you own a camera?  Perhaps you could take some photos and sell them to news agencies.
3620  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I right...? on: July 14, 2014, 06:44:15 PM
I started using cpuminer with slush's pool. I have no external ASIC devices or anything, just my AMD processor, though the processor doesn't really matter to this question. I did the math, and here it is:

2 Mhash/s.
About 7GHash for 1 BTC I'm guessing. (this is all approximate)
7Ghash / 2 = 3.5Ghash. (2 is my Mhash/s)
That means it would take 3.5 million seconds to get 1 btc (Worth I think 600$ cad) with my comp running to get 1 BTC. I think.
Approximately.
So that's 40 days or 960 hours. I play minecraft a ton. No problem.  Wink

I just want to know if my calculations are correct, if I run this while playing minecraft for a total of approximately 1k hours I would get 600$?
I know there is tons of factors but just before this I got one (yay!!!) thing, which is feedback, and I checked Slush's pool (which I'm using) and it says Estimated Reward: 0.00000001 BTC.
Now I'm thinking...hmmmmmm..... one hundred millionth of a btc from...idk...
Can someone help me with my calculations? I'm still getting 2 MHash/s and idc if you say it isn't worth it, I play minecraft so much idc lol.
Also if anyone knows how to speed up my MHash I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to be getting more. AMD A6-3600 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.10Ghz. Latest SDK or whatever. Idk. I looked through a ton of tuts. My bat code I'm using is:
minerd.exe -o http://api.bitcoin.cz:8332 -u worker -p pass -a sha256d -R 2
It goes to stratum and gets some error unknown method getblocktemplate, It must be normal cuz I tried this on two computers same Mhash and same error. Anything I'm doing wrong or if my calculations are wrong then please say so. Any help appreciated. I want to make money for being on my computer, I use it a lot so might as well get some money X3
Thanks in advance  Smiley
The short answer: no, you are not right.  Check out DannyHamilton's explanation.  His math is based on things as they are right now.  Since things change, including rising difficulty and block rewards, you will never mine 1BTC with your CPU.

Of course, you could always try playing the lottery and solo-mine using that CPU.  Who knows... maybe you'll hit the jackpot and crack the block Smiley
