Why would you support a complete ban on them? If people want to buy them, what's wrong with that?

It's a complete waste of energy. Better technology already exists, no reason to continue using them.

The alternative technology isn't there yet. That's why they have to ban them. By the time the alternative technologies are good enough, they would have been adopted anyway.

True.

And let's not forget that the incandescent bulb light is the most natural one that we can archive artificially.
3642  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why are people scared of taxes? on: October 16, 2012, 02:43:51 PM
I don't know why ppl are always scared of paying taxes.
taxes are actually a great thing but only if everyone pays them and if they are spend on useful things only. Just look out your window and you will see lots of things paid with your taxes you use everyday.

Taxes are no more a great thing than a band of thieves robbing a whole village and then using some of the loot to pay for a homeless family's dinner and shelter. It's still theft and it's still wrong.

Don't make the classic mistake of noting only what is seen and forgetting about what isn't. Taxes are theft of money, money that if left in their owner's hands could have been saved, could have been invested into a company and created some jobs, could have been spent much more efficiently and where the market regulated by strictly it's consumers i.e. the free market really wants it, and not where some bureaucrat thinks will earn him some points in the next election while stuffing his own pocket with a nice portion of it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sick and tired of being oppressed and robbed by this gang of thugs known as the government and without incriminating myself I'll say only this: If one should ever make a stand against theft - taxes, why not do it with Bitcoin?
What % do you pay of taxes over your net income? Here in Italy it's the 55%, plus "hidden" taxes, like the paper for being able to drive a car (1000€/year) etc.
3643  Other / Politics & Society / Re: EU cripples future graphics cards (by regulating max. energy consumption) on: October 16, 2012, 02:40:59 PM
here they already banned incandescent lamps.

I hope that by here you don't mean the EU but your country only. Because I can still buy incandescent lamps where I live...
But I would actually support a complete ban on them. Smiley

Well, partially. Only some of them, but its a process that will conclude soon.

3644  Other / Politics & Society / Re: EU cripples future graphics cards (by regulating max. energy consumption) on: October 16, 2012, 02:27:46 PM
I'm a conspirator but this time I don't think you to be right.
They should ban fpga too, and here they already banned incandescent lamps.

We can't buy them anymore.

It's like shooting yourself in the foot but we Europeans got used to it.

3646  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Giving Away a FREE 840Mh/s ModMiner Quad FPGA Miner Every Week in October! on: October 16, 2012, 01:46:19 PM
In.
2 weeks left, around 100 users per week, 1/50 odds of winning.

Seems legit.
3647  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 8MH OF GPU HASH RIGS FOR SALE! on: October 16, 2012, 01:42:24 PM
i think this is a good deal... not sure what people are selling for 30 odd btc... seems weird
Your title is simply unclear, you state the rate but not the rate of what. Giving the "bitcoin"talk.org website i (we) wrongly supposed you where talking about bitcoin, not litecoin.
3648  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 8MH OF GPU HASH RIGS FOR SALE! on: October 16, 2012, 12:51:26 PM
I'm selling a rig that does 16MH/s (16000 hashs/s) for 35BTC!

I think that we are all getting tired of the limits of SMF.

I think SMF works pretty well now. I fixed the most pressing issues. (This is one of the reasons I haven't been too motivated to get this job done.)

I respectfully suggest you should suspend and lock this thread. It's kinda unfair to waste professional developers (of which I am not one*) time and effort dangling 3000+ bitcoins out there when you're not serious about it.

(*Or rather I am not currently seeking contracts)
And remove it from the top banner rotation.

Anyway i would approve a great topic with a lot of great trailers!

The last 007 trailer is a masterpiece imo.

What's yours most liked trailer?

BTW, i have a playlist on yt called "well done trailers". While i don't agree with my choice anymore, this trailer was there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcKPi5DyGWs

NEVER EVER go with bluehost or dreamhost.
I agree Smiley

I'm a bit late too but I suggest the use of gigahost:
https://www.giga-international.com/?show=vserver

with 40€/month you get 4 cores, 12GB (!!) of ram, 600G of disk, and great support too!

I've been unable to find a better deal yet.

Please don't.

I know who they are, and how they operate.

If you want additional downtime go with them.

I also suggest the VM on a cloud environment idea.

AWS EC2 should do it. Take a east cost instance, so that you fit both US & EU. Their micro instance is also part of their free tier program, so you can have free hosting.
3656  Economy / Economics / Re: Are we genetically programmed for Bitcoin economics? on: October 11, 2012, 05:29:41 AM
Let's see, Americans are self-selected from those who traveled half way around the world, surviving with little or nothing, from both East and West.  Of course we're better at economics.
Best troll ever.

At least, I hope so.

PHP is Sooo outdated in 2012
^^ programs in PHP 4.3.

Why you code in a horror of a language?
I don''t. I code in PHP/5.3.10+.

You just listed as a requirements a release that only has one bugfix in it, no new features.
This proves me that you don't know php enought to blame it.

That being said, it's certainly not the best language of the world, as none is, but it does fit some requirements pretty well.
3659  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for someone to create/modify software for this forum [3600+ BTC] on: October 10, 2012, 07:47:17 AM
This is enough to hire a team to do it for you already, provided the timeframe is not too immense. You get what you paid for.

How about paying a team to do it open source?

And distributed! Smiley

There is such tech possible with current browsers with html5.
... and capable to go completely "darknet" route , if needed.
Also ( my intention is not to start holywar here ) PHP is Sooo outdated in 2012,
 like living dead walking alive.
Oh, please hire real coders to write it in any other modern and high quality language !

Lol.
3660  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much do you think a BTC can be worth in the future? on: October 09, 2012, 09:41:41 PM
50'000$ 10 years from now.

I will actually come back in ten years to check my guess.
