3681  Other / Meta / Re: Requesting a requirement to read the stickies in Lending to be added on: December 05, 2016, 11:40:59 AM
I don't think I'd be against blocking newbies from posting in there but it's hard to force people to read rules. The Lending section is pretty much pointless now anyway. The only people who get loans are those who have the same amount in collateral but if they've got sufficient funds why do they need it in the first place? Most of the time people are probably just taking loans to quickly build up rep which in the long run is likely going to lead to a scam.

hmm, Maybe create a quiz that the users need to pass to prove they indeed read the threads. I dunno but there might be another way too.

Or maybe create some rules for the lending section and we could just report the threads that don't follow them.

It's definitely possible to do something against that but that may require some time to implement and resources and It's not a priority in

It would be a waste of time. If there's a stock set of questions people will just google the answers and someone will just write a guide on how to pass them. People should probably just ignore newbie loan requests because they're obviously not going to get filled so they're just wasting their time.

An admin will have to look into it that so contact cyrus about it. Accounts could have been sold or changed hands etc.

3685  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMERS ALLOWED TO CONTINOUSLY CON WITH NOTHING DONE ABOUT IT on: December 03, 2016, 06:46:06 AM
Lutpin thanks for your input and yes you are right and I understand that .

BUT having said that is it right for scammers to scam people 50 times when myself and lots more have reported them and nothings done ?

Im sure someone that CAN do something about it has either seen the reports or told about them and nothings been done .

Is that right ?  I dont want to get into a big argument with anyone but if they act like an idiot I will reply to them with nothing held back .

If we were going to ban people for scamming then in my opinion you would be banned for trying to extort people. You also knowingly buy stolen/fraudulently obtained goods which is a crime and makes you as bad as the scammers yourself so under your very rules and my interpretation of them you would be banned. And that's why moderators don't deal with scams. You could buy something say it doesn't work then cry that person is a scammer just to get them banned or your money back. Oh wait, that's exactly what you do do. As I and others have said multiple times it is forum policy not to get involved with scams because of the sheer amount of time and effort that would be wasted on it not to mention what happens when we get it wrong or ban the wrong person because we've been given dodgy or fabricated evidence? Users will just try wipe out their competition and we are left to try decide who is the bad guy here. Staff are not here to babysit you and you are responsible for your own money not anyone else so that's why the community policies itself on these matters. If you don't like it then you're free to leave.

How do we know these are legit?

You don't. Most of these sellers using autobuy links are scammers trying to fleece the greedy.

Will you give us more information about this OP? It's the first time I heard about this.

They were websites that sold hundreds of hacked accounts to services like Netflix and Spotify etc and were removed for such so that's why you can't find them.

3691  Other / Meta / Re: what is post quality should be? on: December 01, 2016, 12:42:37 PM
Just because they have a 75 minimum character requirement doesn't mean that's all you should do. If they had a two or three character minimum would all your posts just be yes or no answers because that's all you needed to say to get paid? Maybe a yes or no answer is all that is required sometimes but because you're forced to make it longer to earn you'll add a load of nonsense on to the end. If someone asks "Does 2+2 = 4?" a simple yes would suffice. Not "Yes. Two plus two equals four. I know this because I just used a calculator I own to check it and I can confirm this is correct". Everything else other than yes is unnecessary and is blatantly added just to pad their character count. The character count implemented by bitmixer was their attempt to not pay for short spam posts etc but it obviously doesn't work if you don't have someone actively moderating the post quality which they didn't. Otherwise you can and would get paid for just typing jhhhjk bvhgghb bbbbbb jvbhghhbvv ghbvghb ggvghh gvvvhhvv. Gggggvbb fffvvg vvhbbbbhhh tgyhjj if moderators weren't looking out for it and that was the problem with bitmixer. They were paying hundreds of people to spam whatever rubbish they could be bothered to write with no quality control just as long as it was more than 75 characters and staff were left to deal with the mess.

3693  Other / Meta / Re: what is post quality should be? on: December 01, 2016, 08:01:33 AM
Read this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1684035.0

Just put some effort and thought into your posts like you did this one. Making sure a post is 75 characters long doesn't magically make a post constructive though. In fact, just trying to hit the 75 character count usually has the opposite effect because people tend to stretch out their answers unnecessarily. Also, when all of your posts are around 75+ characters or one or two lines it's very easy to spot a pattern. There's no good reason why any users posts should follow a pattern or all be one or two sentences but this seems to be a habbit of Sig spammers because they somehow seem to think that two sentences is the magic number that suddenly makes a post constructive or not spam which isn't the case.
3694  Economy / Reputation / Re: B1tUnl0ck3r account sold or hacked? on: December 01, 2016, 07:46:53 AM
I gave him a warning about the spam. Most of his posts don't make any sense. A similar user was doing the same a couple of weeks ago but stopped after a warning and I wonder if they're related: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=848341 Masha Sha

Mostly posted in the Alt coin section until he started seriously spamming Politics.
3695  Other / Meta / Re: did you agree moderator need to controlling signature managers on: November 30, 2016, 12:35:16 PM
I think you guys missed the point of this guys post? I feel like he is talking about our SMAS team and we need our opinions moderated. If thats the case i think hes wrong obv. We are not just adding ppl to the list for the hell of it. We are actually adding the ppl who need to be added. Will we stop all the spam? No, but we will stop hundreds of accounts from being able to spam. And we will continue our efforts and try to help the forum be a more enjoyable place for ppl to come to
Im sure the user is speaking directly at Lauda

It's hard to understand quite what his point or proposition is here. I'm not sure whether he's for or against moderator involvement. I think it's lack of staff involvement that has lead to the current situation and the laissez faire attitude to sig campaigners doing whatever they want can't continue. People will cry and complain when they get kicked off a campaign or invent conspiracies about conflict of interest etc but I haven't seen a staff member who didn't have the best interests of the forum at heart. Either way we can't really win. We do nothing and the forum gets spammed massively and people complain about that. We crack down on it in an attempt to clean up the forum and people still complain. Can't really have it both ways.

Theymos doesn't want to disable the signatures because the traffic to the forum will start to dry up when everyone has realized they can't earn Bitcoin any more by posting. Less traffic will lead to less paid advertisements and less profit for the staff. How many will continue to post after there is no more cash? Less than 50% I would guess.

Whilst the first part of this is likely the reason, if signature campaigns were banned more people would advertise here via the ads so therefore more money for staff. There's no doubt that traffic would drop drastically but at least it would be quality discussion then but this forum would still be the biggest and best place to advertise so many sig campaign operators would just advertise that way instead. I think it's about finding a balance. If all campaigns are run strictly and only accept and pay for quality posters then that should solve the problem but only if all campaigns are on board.  The [SMAS] thread is just those managers trying to do their part but of course people who are affected by not being able to get paid by spamming the forum with poor posts on multiple accounts are going to whinge about it. Their easy source of income has been affected and they don't like it. Well good. If every campaign did this the forum would be cleaned up significantly because they would have to improve or their accounts here are worthless.

Disabling signatures is a measure which has a lot of room for adjustment. In this way, there is absolutely no need to disable all signatures at once. I don't think there are a lot spammers roaming the forum who are Heroes or Legendary members (due to "natural selection" of sorts), and their signatures could be left enabled. In fact, I don't think that any enabled signatures should be disabled at all. Just disabling signatures for new comers will do wonders in due course

But this would also have negative consequences. It's true most of the spam comes from newer members and I wouldn't be against some of the lower ranks having their signatures removed completely, but then this just makes farming more lucrative and more people spamming to hit the desired rank and more threads in Meta asking why their activity isn't going up and when will they be a Hero member etc. It's seems to be swings and roundabouts whatever we do.
