So, you're not a big fan of accountability at it's most primal levels ?

Was Darwin wrong ? Do the most cowardly really get to continue in life, unopposed ?

Aren't we all simply animals anyways ?

Theres a difference between accountability and unwarranted forced identification, If someone has two accounts, and one of them gets in a bit of trouble for having an unpopular idea, the accountability is right toward that account, its not towards their other account, which may or may not be their "main" account, but if I created an account named ASDFGHJKL, and I say something offensive on that account, ASDFGHJKL is still in trouble, and so am I. This account (Saltyspitoon) may not be effected, but since ASDFGHJKL is still my account, I'm still accountable. So if I decided that I was going to start up some controversial yet allowed topics on the forums, I might not want my name associated with it, for example, if I started talking politics, and stated my opinion on abortion, or something like that, those people that disagree with me strongly may never work with me again, because of my opinion there. If I wanted to start a business, or work on a project, I could have screwed myself over with that one statement.

Yes, in a society, Darwin is wrong. We are animals, but we aren't animals that need to survive based on our strengths and valor. If I wanted to be an IT Tech or a software engineer, can't I be an introvert? Or will I not be able to survive because I'm not outgoing and brave?

Until the forum requires your real name, your real address, and all of you credentials/papers, we get to maintain some level on anonymity. Now, if you cheat someone out of some money or something like that, someone will do research into you, and put pressure on you that way, but Bitcoins are supposed to be anonymous, forcing rules like no alternate accounts is asinine. I say feel free to change your Username from Bitlane, and use your real name, and make sure you have your address listed, all confirmed with bills and gov ID, but I doubt there is anyone on the forum who would volunteer to do that.
3704  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 01:48:49 AM
Yup Here it is

Direct from IRC

[19:54] <@pirateat40> As much as I've tried to meet the deadlines within the community, there're conditions beyond my control which have escalated the process to the point it is today.

[19:55] <@pirateat40> Bitcoin Savings & Trust has hereby given notice of default to it's account holders.

Damn I know I should have bet Matthew

So am I crazy, or would the logical thing to do if he was honest, be return what $ he has left from the fund proportionately back to their owners? If he had 500k BTC, and only has 400K left, why not just pay 4/5th of what you owe? At least that way, people aren't entirely screwed.
3705  Other / Meta / Re: theymos, please BAN all common IP sockpuppet accounts on: August 29, 2012, 01:43:59 AM
I don't see how having more than one account, besides the possibility for misuse such as creating fake investments and fake credibility, can be a bannable offense. If I wanted to have another account, as long as that account isn't doing anything wrong, and my other account isn't doing anything wrong, whats the problem? If someone is making 500 accounts so that they can scam people, sure, ban them. But what if I wanted an account to represent my honest beliefs, and then another account to relax and mess around a bit more on. I've been known to kid/mess with people, but if I ever wanted to maintain a serious status for whatever reason, I would have a hard time doing that, because of my tendency to heckle. So again, explain to me what is wrong about having one account to be a bit less uptight, and another one to keep a professional stature with as long as I'm not being abusive on either account?
3706  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is more secure than Bitcoin, lower hashrate is nearly irrelevant on: August 28, 2012, 10:10:39 PM
A govt (NSA, CIA, etc) couldn't rent the services of a botnet through a third party and smash Litecoin with hundreds of thousands of nodes?  Why build a warehouse of rigs when you can simply rent more far more hashing power as the entire Litecoin network has on demand.    Also how many CPU do you think the a major government or bank has?  They wouldn't need to build some ASIC chips, Litecoin provided a back door using hardware they already have sitting idle for 16 hours a day.

The cost to 51% attack Litecoin is negligible and could be done for free by a botnet operator who is just bored and curious if he can accomplish it.  Making CPU more competitive (i.e. crippling more efficient hardware) would only make Litecoin even more at risk to operators with huge numbers of botnets.

Both BTC/LTC are vulnerable to such attack. Any gov has access to much more hashing power than both of the networks combined. The U.S gov as it is now has millions of ASIC devices, used for encryption. It wouldn't be to hard or even that expensive for them to decide to make BTC mining ASICs, and then crush the network.

Really, the only thing that keeps either coin safe, is its lack of recognition and underestimation. I would guarantee though, if Bitcoin, or litecoin for that matter ever got to the point where it could replace fiat (like many people seem to think it would) there will be at least one of the 196 countries governments successfully attacking Bitcoin/Litecoin.

When people talk about the evil gov interfering, they seem to automatically think of the U.S Gov, there are far more unstable/corrupt govs out there that wouldn't feel too bad about destroying BTC/LTC given a reason.

Thanks, enjoy the little bonus cartoons/videos that came with it when I bought it. They are kind of strange.

3712  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Selling phsyical bitcoins on: August 27, 2012, 02:49:47 AM
This had been brought up hundreds of times before. There are Cas coins, those aren't paper, but they are physical Bitcoins with a very nice design/system. Then there were BitBills which were preloaded Bitcoins onto pieces of paper that you could use, then there were 10 offshoots of Bitbills, and there are also various Bitcoin checks.

If you are talking about Bitcoin preloaded "gift cards" like you see in 7-11, that has not been done yet, and you do not need to pay tax on them. 1. They are bitcoins, 2. they aren't real. You don't have to pay taxes on any giftcards you buy at that as well.

So you have the 2BTC, you just can't get to it right now, so even if you lose the Poker game, you can still pay back correct?

*edit* Never mind, loan was fulfilled while I was typing.
3716  Other / Off-topic / Re: Matthew, I kindly ask you to stop your trollfest or remove "Editor-in-Chief"... on: August 25, 2012, 10:23:23 PM
Although I understand half of his replies to things are sarcastic and joking because of half of the crap he has to listen to, but some times he does come across as a jackass. But, I think the warning in his sig is fitting (Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this post are strictly those of the author. The contents of this post have not been reviewed nor approved by Bitcoin Magazine), and I don't really see why you would fire a guy because of his own personal beliefs or tendencies to mess with people. If he starts officially representing Bitcoin Mag and makes a fool of himself, fine. But it would really suck to not ever be able to speak your mind just because you are affiliated with a project.

Yes he acts like a jackass and has been promoting his threads everywhere, but read over half of these stupid posts that people are making. MNW is actually a time traveler, and he has seen the future so his bets are unfair! Or, MNW is actually pirate and he is making these bets because its a sure win! Stupid posts like that don't really deserve a valid answer.

3718  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: If I win the 10,000BTC, I have an idea for what to do with the money... on: August 25, 2012, 06:18:33 AM
ORRR, you could invest it in my friend who out of the blue asked me earlier today if I wanted to invest with him, and buy land in Nevada to build a Solar Farm and eventually a power company. BTW, we aren't Bitcoin millionaires, more like Bitcoin hundredaires, we are in Maryland, and probably have about $500 in $ to invest between the pair of us. We may need another one or two hundred to buy the land, solar panels, and setup wiring equipment if you are feeling generous  Grin

But then again, if I were you, Id go with the porn option.

Edit* Or then again, better yet, why not do it all?

It's generous of you Matthew - but I think if you want to be generous with that bet, there are other projects which would be more beneficial to the btc economy.

Here's an idea... make a high profile campaign to get some well-known charity/foundation/organization to accept Bitcoin. If you offer them $100k, they'll listen, no matter what currency it's in.

If I could pick any organization to whom you should make this offer, it would be A) Mises Institute or B) Cato Institute.

Or, if you want to REALLY pour some fuel on the Bitcoin economy, set it up as a bounty for a massive porn website to accept BTC. Basically, meeting with someone from Kink.com or Brazzers and tell them you'll donate $100k if they accept Bitcoin. You can do it in an epic creative way, like I know you're good at Smiley

Instead of paying them off, threaten to give their "actresses (or actors, I don't know you and I'm not one to judge)" STDs, making them no longer useable for the industry.

And then find something fun and reckless to blow the $100K on. A new sports car? A modest house in a decent area? A very nice house in a ghetto? Or a solar farm in Nevada.

If you do this, for the $100K demand that you be in one of the videos too.
3720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Litecoin be the first ASIC-proof alt-coin? on: August 25, 2012, 05:44:59 AM
I'm still trying to figure out if LTC is FPGA proof? I hear some people say yes, FPGAs don't have the ram necessary for Scrypt. I then hear others say, the ram could be added to FPGAs, its just a matter of time until someone makes a miner that supports FPGAs.
