After I make this post, I am going dark on anything bitcoin related. I am not in a panic, just a little annoyed about seeing the price go down constantly. Hopefully by the time I come back, we will be on our way to the moon. C ya later boys.

Guys really now, do you really think that all those investors which put millions of dollars into the infrastructure, hired developers and sponsored start ups will let bitcoin die and go to 0 just because China banned it ?

it's precisely them who are pulling the price down. need to stack more cheap cash Wink

this is quite possible
3764  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 10, 2014, 08:48:35 PM
hm why is btc-e going full retard

traders on btc-e are a little more emotional and have more happy trigger fingers than on bitstamp/bitfinex.

I BEGGED you assholes to dump on the dead cat bounce and buy back when $400 was retested. You could have increased your BTC holdings without spending an extra dime.

Says the asshole who was insulting other people's mums when everybody with half brain could saw it's going below 600$.

Fuck off you moron, don't play the smart arse game here..

I'm gonna fuck off with the thousands of dollars I saved today by going full fiat. Jesus, you're still sore about that? Let it go, Man. I gave you credit for your good call, now give me credit for mine. Or give me your mom's number (I think I lost it).

I'm not really 100% sure, but personal empirical evidence suggests that starting out a conversation with "you assholes" usually doesn't lead to fruitful outcomes in the short, medium or long term.

EDIT: so yeah, fuck off, billyjoeallen.

Ouch. How much have you lost so far?

You don't make a loss until you realize it. I long recovered my initial investment and then some. So just don't worry about me.

Re math and ancient skills...

True story. When my son was about 13 I bought him a pair of hiking boots. He never wore them even though he was at the store and picked them out, tried them on unlaced and walked around. When I asked why, he laughed and said he doesn't know how to tie the laces right. I thought he was joking but nope, he wasn't. It might sound like parental fail but it's not...I bought him velcro style shoes from the first time I put him in real shoes (not baby shoes) and he just kept getting those kind every time we went shoe shopping. I know tying shoe laces is just a given for everyone it never occurred to me he didn't know how....but when I stopped and reflected, there was never any opportunity we'd needed to teach him. All his shoes had velcro straps for his entire life.

Mind blown. He could tie ties and rope and all but shoe laces were an unknown. Fortunately it only took a few minutes to show him but still...it's kind of awkward to know my own child couldn't tie his own shoelaces til he was a tween and never said a word... Shocked

The NXT guys effectively prevented clone-takeover by releasing binaries first and only older versions of source-code. What is æthereum going to do to prevent such counter-attack?
3770  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: April 09, 2014, 06:05:09 AM
This is VERY interesting.
But I don't think:
If there is any value in Ethereum (and I'm doubtful that Turing completeness is anything other than problematic) then it is in the code.  But the code is freely available.
Is necessarily true. Value can come from developpers too. Ethereum team said that everyone can fork the code but it's the devs who bring the value, and the devs cannot be forked. And Ethereum guys plan to keep improving Ethereum with release of new versions: Etherium 2, 3 ,etc.

I actually think the most important aspect that brings value to a coin is its users. Of course also the developers and the code, but the usage of the coin is what makes it valuable.

shit.

In what way would a bitcoind be vulnerable? Does it use ssl vor transport security?

Besides falsifying their BTC holdings, the exchange can falsify the other half of the "audit", too.  Suppose the exchange is short of 100,000 coins, but the owner has a cat named Tibonne and client TibonneTheCat has 100,000 BTC in its account.

Then either TibonneTheCat is collaborating in the fraud and also lending 100,000 BTC to the exchange knowing full well it doesn't have it (so basically making a very risky investment) or the exchange runs the risk of TibonneTheCat discovering his balance not being included and making an effective fuzz about it.

3773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: April 08, 2014, 06:37:37 AM
Also, the phone wallets are very important. Ideally all major handsets should be supported so that as many people as possible can transact easily.

I agree. Ideally receiving the airdrop would've been integrated into the wallet app, too. That's not a must, though, but it would make Icelanders carry around at least some of their AUR "by default".
3774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: April 08, 2014, 06:11:21 AM
We'll have to give this experiment more time. Nothing is decided and the coin is not "dying".

Yes, the exchange rate is dropping. Not surprising... the hype is over and huge amounts have been airdropped. Profiteers have left ship.

I would love to be able to have a feel how Auroracoin (and crypto in general) is seen and used (or not) in Iceland... the experiment is to see wether an airdrop style distribution method would work to get a population to use a coin as money in their daily lives. At least that's what it is about for me. So far that goal has not been reached to any meaningful extent as far as I can tell (someone from Iceland draw a picture, please).

The android app just came out a couple of days ago (I've always thought that would be very important because it allows easy person-to-person transactions on the street to settle small debts, buy/sell stuff and whatnot.

Yes, probably many Icelanders who took part in this experiment so far are disillusioned... maybe they feel that they didn't get those 100s of dollars worth they were "promised", maybe they expected many merchants to accept Auroracoin and now there's only a couple of them, maybe they feel sad that the experiment failed like the posters above. Maybe they feel that AUR is a crappy store of wealth. Maybe they think it'll never go anywhere.

Maybe at one point some (a large enough number?) will realize that it's really up to them wether or not crypto "goes anywhere" and becomes a good store of value.

One thing is for sure: many Icelanders got in touch with crypto. It's sinking into their minds now. Many probably traded AUR on the market for BTC or fiat. Maybe some realize they can just ignore the warnings of the central banks and use private money as they see fit. Maybe some start to realize the power they really have.

There will be another airdrop and many years for Auroracoin to exist and "be an option".

If you're in AUR for a quick profit you should probably move on to other things (should've done so long ago, in fact). If you're in Auroracoin for the people (yes, it sound cheesy), for fundamental change and for giving options to people and putting some pressure towards the powers that be, then by all means, stay. The real fun is yet to come (or not).

Auroracoin Android wallet RC2, feel free to test. Soon to be announced on playstore!

Thanks 1000!

This is much appreciated. Great work.

Can you provide download/usage statistics on some kind of regular basis. That would be very interesting.
3776  Economy / Speculation / Re: URGENT, Bitcoin is on the verge of collapse !!! on: April 07, 2014, 06:15:09 AM
URGENT, this thread maybe be deleted,
This is my thread which administrators constantly erased, without any explanation !!!

Only $ 15 million to total collapse

Igorr, you're quite full of shit.

There will be no "total collapse".

Let's say it's true: miners sell all the mined coins to cover cost.

Obviously most of these coins are being absorbed by buyers, otherwise price would tank (I mean tank, not downtrend)

What happens if price gets lower, let's say $350? Well, the buyers gain strength, because for the same amount of fiat, they can buy more coins. In other words: everything else equal, an equilibrium will be reached at some price. Quite honestly it looks right now that price is $450ish.

What happens when miners mine below cost? Well: some, like BitcoinXPress, will bravely (and stupidly from an individual profit perspective) mine on to "secure the network" or due to some kind of stubborness, but most will rationally switch off their miners and if they want to acquire more coins, they will... low on behold: buy bitcoins on the market. What will that do to price?

On the upside I see that you dropped your misguided notion (uttered in wall thread) that volume on chinese exchanges is somehow meaningful. Bobby Lee nicely explained at coinsummit what's going on with that.

To wrap it up: please quit your stupid misguided FUD. It's pathetic and you know it.

Everyone is expecting a big move up or down. I think it's just as likely that we'll go largely sideways for a painful amount of time. That would be the worst possible scenario for me personally so of course i think it'll prolly happen.

market moving in direction of most pain? quite possible.
3778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 06, 2014, 12:24:27 PM
I dont see down trend. I see a $700 correction.

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uhh, your opinion, man.

It's shared by quite a few people.

Im still suprised. Seem to have chosen a quite good line. This one is on the 1m chart.

you call that a line, bro? It's all jiggly and shit.
3780  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: DarkWallet + Trezor = couple of the year? on: April 05, 2014, 04:34:00 PM
DarkWallet dev here,

Regarding securing your keys with trezor, this comes to using the darkwallet without the private keys in your machine (or browser, depending what you consider a safe environment), or as a multisig wallet. This is going to be totally supported, but it's kind of feature we will put in place for the beta, not alpha (wait a couple weeks).

We will love to include trezor support, either by integrating someone's work or doing it ourselves, we also think the following ways to secure your wallet will be available:

* Sign from trezor or similar devices
* Sign with airgapped device (2 way scanning of qr's)
* Sign with android or desktop 2fa component (just asks to sign the tx's so you can confirm somewhere out of your browser or your machine)

We can use "no keys" approach, or "multisig" approach, we will see. Anyways I hope you get the picture of where we are going.

Ie, it's not "use trezor or your keys are doomed". We will support, even recommend and possibly enforce proper securing of the keys.

The dark wallet is designed with offline signing of transactions (and gathering any amount of extra signatures) in mind, in a way that supports read only wallets, multisigs or coinjoins with similar mechanics (still working to have all features available in the frontend but the dw wallet design supports that).

cheers!

This is awesome to read. Thanks!

Of course I wasn't trying to say that "your keys are doomed" with DarkWallet. Your plans regarding keys sound great to me and I'm glad I supported you guys back then.

I'm excited about both these projects, because both bring something to Bitcoin that is (and has been) needed for a long time: privacy and security.

Of course those aren't the only projects / ways to solve these problems, but they are very promising ones.
