Vote proposal #2.
3762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][MEW]Discussion&Vote #1 - Communication Strategy - Members only on: October 12, 2014, 10:15:50 PM
Start of voting.

The discussion phase lasted for the 7 days. Now it is time to start the voting. It is possible to continue discussion also but the proposals are locked in (proposal texts in the end of the message).

Voting happens as follows:
- Write a post
- State your number of votes in the first line
- State which proposal you vote for in the second line ("1" and "2" identify proposals adequately).
- When either of the proposals reaches 50%+1 of all votes, it passes immediately. Otherwise the proposal with more votes passes after 168 hours from the timestamp of this post.

Proposal #1 ver 1

Whereas, BCT has been proven to be an energetic platform for discussion;

Whereas, almost all the members of the MEW are active in BCT already, making its use very convenient;

Whereas, the recent fall in BTC price and the decimation of altcoins has lead to our userbase and fiat resources shrinking considerably and they must be put to more important uses than setting up proprietary forums and communication tools;

Whereas, the current altcoinworld holds a great deal of people that over time could be persuaded of Monero's speciality (especially MEW, which they don't have);

Now, therefore, we decide that the MEW will base both its internal and external communication as much as is practical in BCT (not stopping the use of existing proprietary channels, however, but also not pushing the new members to use them).

Proposal #2 ver 3

Whereas, the Monero core team has just launched a new forum tailored for Monero users;

Whereas, the MEW can start using the new forum without further implementation;

Whereas, directing new people to BCT is a shame due to high FUD content and low S/N ratio almost throughout;

Whereas, BCT remains an important place to have discussion and information faucet among Cryptoworld;

Whereas, an online virtual world "Crypto Kingdom" with XMR as the ingame currency has been announced to be developed by MEW activists;

Now, therefore, we decide that:

1) the MEW will, as soon as is practical, move its internal official communication including votes and such, to dedicated forum Monero.cc;

2) the MEW will encourage Monero users to migrate to the new forum by adding content there;

3) the MEW will encourage its members to continue posting also in the quality threads in BCT;

4) the MEW will encourage the developers of Crypto Kingdom to hasten their efforts in making this world launch to the players as soon as possible.
3763  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 12, 2014, 08:21:38 PM
Now is the time to buy, considering that rumor says the webwallet is out in 2 weeks..
3764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(Town) on: October 12, 2014, 06:41:36 PM
The hype is building up quite quickly..

Can you give an estimated launch date of the game itself?

Well 3 weeks was indeed given as an estimate, from the time of spex availability ofcourse. You have to remember that the graphical side of things is pretty much nonexistent, so once I develop the concept and the mechanisms of the game economy (this work is still in progress very much), the competent developers can work amazingly fast to transform it to a playable thing because of the platforms available.

3766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 12, 2014, 02:08:38 PM
Bid side collapsed hard, volume too. market seems exhausted. where do we go?
Yea.. forum activity and participation of prominent members also on the decline. I think there is overall disappointment that the database and GUI, which were just around the corner two months ago are still not here. I guess the majority of investors are in the red, which doesn't add much to the enthusiasm..
I started developing a service based on XMR, but put it on hold until I see clear signs that things are going in the right direction.

Monero has something that no other coin (even BTC) has: Virtual World.
3767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(Town) on: October 12, 2014, 02:06:08 PM
A three week turnaround for coding all these ideas sounds pretty quick, how many people do you have working on this?

Am I right in saying there will almost be two games in this, a MMO game of civ that collectively all players play and then a meta game of managing the specific plot of land that you own?

Regarding theme, your game is called crypto kingdom, shouldn't there be more made of the the fact it is funded by a crypto currency. Because at the moment it's the equivalent of naming your game "Sid Miers Fiat World" just because of the way you buy the game.

If you want to increase the theme, you could add Millie farms into the game, or ask players to crack simple maths problems to access certain areas, or if you want to really push the envelope you could add a evil banking cartel to the game as a sort of antagonist.

Would you consider a way of tipping the owners of a house  with Millies if it is offering a good service to the community?

For coding all, certainly 3 weeks is not enough, except perhaps from a fully thought-out spex (developing of which takes a long time). For coding the initial features, 3 weeks is enough.

The facets of the game will be:

- Online MMORPG of interacting with other people via trollboxes, going to stores to conduct exchange, etc. The content will be largely developed by the players themselves.

- Resource management aspect of keeping your character in good shape. It is possible to participate in MMORPG as a "stranger" for free, and as "visiting merchant"/"visiting noble" against a fee. Ingame, you can also engage in industry and make your character raise in the levels, which makes upkeep higher but opens up new opportunities also. Then you can be a noble who owns so much land that he can play with his peers and earn $50 per month actual income (for example). Another one does not care about resource management and has to constantly fund the account to retain his lifestyle. Just like in real world.

- Civ-style aspect comes in both the city map (latest thought - consisting of 10x15 plot pages that can be accessed in a mobile screen), and the country map (consisting of farmland that has a certain production per plot). In the city, players compete for the location of taverns, pharmacies and other places that the characters must visit, in the countryside the grand scheme of things is constructing roads that the goods can flow to the city when it grows bigger and more food is needed. Therefore the Duchies far away are entirely speculative, and near the city they are very valuable productive assets.

There will be plenty of aspects that tie the game up with cryptotheme, for example the bot-weeding procedure of asking a character to visit a certain registry office, where Monero-goodnews is preached, also giveaways will be plentiful. The game is not intended to make money but to increase knowledge about Monero and its use.

A new type of social network will also be introduced for making ingame friends and communicating with them.

Tipping is enabled in every level.

To update an existing proposal.

The launch of the Monero forum (monero.cc) has made it necessary to rewrite the proposal to take into account that there IS a dedicated forum already, and it does not need to be coded from scratch anymore. I decided to change the proposal #2 to reflect the current reality.

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL GAME THREAD FOR CRYPTO KINGDOM 1.0 AND FURTHER VERSIONS UP TO 4.0.

CURRENTLY THE GAME IS BEING PLAYED AS CRYPTO KINGDOM 5.0 - INHERITANCE IN KINGLI PLATFORM.

Also, freeciv is a open sauce project that could be incorporated somehow?

if this ends up incorporating civ-like features that would be awesome! Smiley

The first version that we use for lifting up Monero from the abyss needs to get out asap. As well as Civilization, whose 6th incarnation is soon coming, this can be revised and new features added, or add the features to the old design if possible.

What I say now will probably not be the v1, but will show the extent of my current design (quite CIV-like don't you think Smiley ) :

- Gameworld has capacity for 100,000 players under one King, also 1 million serfs will be there, non-playable but as workforce to be contracted;

- In the center there is the city, composed of 500x500 plots that can be used to build buildings. Buildings contain all features, businesses, warehouses and of course residences. A small building "hut" takes up 1 lot, a large one "Malla castle" takes 27 lots + park. One rental block can accommodate 12 people in one space, likewise there is no limit how many spacious palaces one person can own without using them. ("City view" in CIV1 although much enhanced because every building is functional! Looks like the "Main map" a bit). The city will be opened piecewise, in 25 arrondissements, to make sure that the buildings are reasonably close to each other and it works nicely from a casual player's pov who always starts journeys from the main square (residents start from their home);

- The countryside consists of different size farms and estates ("Global map"), new Earldoms will be opened when there are enough funds to build a road to them (for goods transport to the city), so that there is about as many square kilometres of land as there are players, until all land is taken. This land is capable to support not only the serfs but also the city dwellers. The land owners receive all the various goods automatically to their city warehouses with some possibility to tailor and develop the production ("City mgmt view" in CIV1);

- Both the plots in the city and the provinces in the countryside offer speculation opportunities. The Earldoms (1000 sq.km of land - huge resources since there is only 1 sq.km per player on average) may be able to be bought for cheap in the early stages of the game (for the title Wink ), but their value only comes later when the road is constructed, and it is not economically sensible until the city is big enough so that the new products coming to the market would not crash prices;

- The player need not care about anything until he gets to a higher level, it is "type URL and GO" -game.

- In the higher level the player is asked of his age (20-50) and gender. The game time progresses 24:1 to the normal time, so one character can only live typically a year of real life time, or a little more. Before dying, characters always become sick so they have the opportunity to move the lands, titles and good to the new character;

- The sustenance of a character is residence (buy or rent, maintain), food (visit taverns, autovisit when not online), drink (same), clothes (buy from tailors, then they wear down and must be replaced), driver (only peasants walk), servants (if you have a large house). This happens in "character maintenance view" which is also your profile page so that everyone can see if you actually eat Foie Gras every day like you boast to) Once you get to higher level of play, the social requirements of living standard go higher, so that people declining becoming Duke "for financial reasons" under Churchill becomes understandable Wink ;

- The income for Nobles is the resources their lands produce, the others receive profits from actual business conducted within the game world, also virtual businesses (Caviar expedition), then there is a selector: "Spend time on" which determined how to spend the majority of character time which is not spent online. The options include several "work pools" which means that all money spent in the city towards a certain kind of work is divided to people doing it. Higher "skill" in something gives you a bigger dividend;

- To make ends meet, it is possible to eat and drink more cheaply, but that also makes you die younger. The staple drink, "mead", is actually no mead at all, it is distilled from potato peelings (the staple food for poor being potatoes) and then diluted with whatever water is available. It tastes between "almost nothing" to "disgustingly horrible", combining the long term dangers of bad alcohol and bad water, but neutralising the immediate concerns of infectious disease. It is the greatest disgrace of the city's living conditions to not have any potable non-alcoholic drinks available. Luckily both beer and wine can be had, and "you know that you have reached true financial indepencence when you never will touch that shit again". Most people remember their last encounter with mead, that being a planned event.

How do you interpret that bid megawalls of +30000 coins?
Risto giving liquidity to the market (also ask walls)

No not really that. My way to give liquidity has been small bids and asks near the market that gives several fills per day with just 2-3 % profit per hit.

Wallmaking currently has the issue that an ASK wall is 300% more likely to be filled than a BID wall in equal distance so it requires a different risk mgmt approach.

Also I don't want to be more than 35% of the orders in any range, or 5% of trades.

Do you have a design team working on this game already, if someone would like to join what kind of vacancies are available?

The team is currently not formed. I would be the "lead designer" (the "Sid Meier").

Even though it is no public knowledge, I have been designing games for over 25 years, mainly board/card/math games, and mainly for the joy of designing. I am very capable of designing the economic engine of the game. On the other hand, I know nothing about programming so some people will certainly be needed. There is also a project manager whose name is currently not public. I will answer the questions as much as I can.

What code are you planning to use to run this bad boy? HTML5 or something like C# so it can be easily ported to app in future. The reason I say this is that I feel apps are best for social interactions as they allow players to be highly mobile and not stuck at a PC while playing.

The idea is to allow for mobile playing.

Quote
Will it be a 2d map that allowed players to enter 3d rooms or will it be all 2d?

I am thinking the structure at least would be 2d. Perhaps 3d does not fit the style at all. I'd like to think of it as "demoscene" type game where you have to excel within the heavy limitations, so that every pixel counts.

Quote
I fear that your plan of offering in game money for time spent playing encourages bots and multi accounts to harvest gold. Instead have you considered a way of offering the players regular tasks to earn gold in the same way Moshi Monsters offers players simple Maths and English in exchange for their ingame currency.

I plan to implement an algorithm that spots the accounts that are played by bots and reduces their income to a minimum. Also an inactive account in a higher level will soon start to run a deficit due to lack of intelligent maintenance, keeping the bots from earning meaningful amounts.

Quote
Have you already mocked up this game in Excel? Is it functional or did you just do the hard math in it?

Initial mockup is done. Now I am trying to make a resource-based economic system which would be easy enough to implement without the feature creep postponing the project till 2016. Newbies would just explore the world without needing to care about clothing themselves. The economy would start to apply to the player stepwise from level 3 onwards (initially 10 levels).

Quote
What is the contingency for you being rendered unable to play the game by any means, this means that all the gold / XMR will be held by you and no one will be able to finance the development anymore.

The King has so many business going on that his account will be played by multiple players. Also the Town Council (that manages the game world) is a separate entity.

Quote
What is your preferred method of allowing new players (who understand that the XMR invested in this game is dead money) to purchase XMR, will there be a link to a XMR exchange or will you have your own USD / XMR website nearby where players can quickly convert?

I have several ideas, but this will be left to individual players to decide mostly. They have their shoprooms, linkspace, adspace etc.
3772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 11, 2014, 06:33:12 AM
#2 is waiting for necessary improvements for XMR to be able to be used by The Drooling Masses®.  Although I am one of The Drooling Masses I have been able to mine and use XMR due to motivation.

Well one such Mass-Appealing Thing® is the first ever virtual world that uses XMR (or any crypto btw.. Shocked) as the in-game transaction medium + accounting unit + way to load the balance.

Seriously, if it's a game, have some rules on how anyone can become a king based on game merit

Only one King can reign at a time, otherwise it would not count...

...but anything can happen.  Wink

And below King there are Dukes, Marquess, Earls and Barons. And Magnates, Professors, Knights, Master Artesans and Master Engineers. People have badges, medals, honors and orders. Everyone can make their own badge and award it as little or as much as they like. And do it in 5 classes: bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond.

For example "Social" badge is awarded from the total lines of chat written in the various trollboxes:
- bronze for 10 lines
- silver for 100 lines
- gold for 1,000 lines
- platinum for 10,000 lines
- diamond for 100,000 lines.

Experience is gained from the game, doing things. Hardly even the King has as much experience than the best players. And ranks lower in the ranking.

These are just examples that it is not unidirectional, but a plethora of possibilities.
3774  Other / Archival / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(Town) on: October 10, 2014, 09:36:08 PM
This sounded interesting until "I, as the king"..
By putting yourself in this position I think that you hurt Monero more than you help.
I believe many people don't want to touch Monero because of your vocal involvement, and this will only aggravate the problem.

LOL, everyone knows the lower classes have all the fun and freedom. Grin
The King has to stay pompous and above it all, while the peasants get to boogie out.
It isn't like they actually have to work or anything.
Because...
Its a game, its only a game, don't make it seem like it is something serious enough to get upset about.
Save the emotions for real things.
The king deleted my comment, the king don't like criticism..

Definitely not. If the intention is to criticize the King, you better pick another virtual town to live in, preferably before you get too much EXP, cause you lose it all by criticising the King in the wrong place  Shocked
3775  Other / Archival / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(Town) on: October 10, 2014, 09:15:18 PM
As as was telling you in Poloniex chat, if you need any beta testers let me know. Smiley

Our schedule is first to sell the initial stash of gold to willing buyers to 1)start the technical development and 2)gain the first userbase.

Then lock in the town map and zone the areas for public buildings, private houses, agora and King's castle, publish it.

Then auction out the plots that may be used for private houses. The currency to be used at this point is Gold, since no millies exist yet. Boys are busy coding the game meanwhile.

Make a static website that shows the current state of our town, with (hopefully) lots of preparation going on.

Now the Player mgmt system is ready, and all user data will be transferred to it from the various excelsheets.

"Room" functionality with trollbox and some command line tricks will be tried with the whole of the userbase at first.

"Facade" page and "Room" page layouts are finished and owners of land can design (or let design) their houses if they want to build them and other wallpapers (alpacas grazing eating boolberries from bushes) if they want to keep the land for speculation.

Deposit XMR/BTC is implemented and tested, so that the players can load their accounts with money.

The construction of a house is priced simply such that the maximum square meters one can build in one plot is 2,000sqm (requires a 6-storey building with no yard), although it is ok to build anything smaller. This is multiplied by the prestige of the building (millies/sqm) that does not have any limits. When the game starts, part of the construction costs are doled out to low-level players as windfall "rush job wages" encouraging rapid adoption of the game at that point.

All components of the basic game engine are in place.

Finishing: some storytelling aspects are added, bugs fixed, wallpapers added to every facade and room, data checked.

L A U N C H

Development continues... Smiley

Crypto Kingdom

Gameworld

Crypto Kingdom is a virtual world that uses Monero(XMR) as money. The "main screen" is a map of square plots with a similar look to the main map of Civilization 1 from 1991. The whole game is a tongue-in-cheek retro style with pixelated graphics and music of the era. By clicking to one of the several buildings or attractions, the player first arrived to a pixel-art "building facade view", and then gets to "rooms" where he can perform actions.

The main action in each room is Trollbox, where players can chat, tip money, drink various beverages, give reputation, play simple games etc. Some of the rooms have special features such as dice games, links to information resources or news, advertisements, faucets, businesses. Some are private houses of wealthy citizens, meeting places of guilds, and the King's castle is there also. The facade view and room view wallpapers are different for each house and room. New features will constantly be added with the focus on playability, not on graphics. Owners of buildings can also add functional features to their buildings, even make them income generating. Only rich people will own houses, it is also possible to rent, and even that is not a requirement. Markets are free and not regulated.

The land is a limited resource, giving rise to real estate speculation. The most prestigious lots may be valued very high in the initial auction and the aftermarket. New land will be claimed for the town according to the Town Council's decisions, zoned and auctioned, when it seems profitable to do it. There is an absolute cost that the game must pay to the Monero development donation address for each metre of new city wall constructed. This sets the minimum value for new land before it can be claimed.

Economy

The ingame currency is millies (0.001 XMR), and it's possible to play with only ingame faucets and giveaways, but to get something real going, the account needs to be funded. This is possible with BTC and XMR. Due to legal reasons, winnings cannot be paid out, but the town is full of people that can exchange ingame value for real life value, just as in other similar games such as EVE Online, and p2p exchange is the way to go and part of the thrill of the gameplay.

In addition to millies, there is a known quantity of Gold, partly even the owners are known. Gold represents the votepower and "ownership" of the Town Council, the game world, the "company" itself. When the Town Council runs a surplus (by zoning land, for example), the excess millies are distributed to the Gold owners as ingame dividends. Gold/millies market exists. New gold comes to the game constantly, diluting the ownership of the previous owners. This amount of new gold is tied to the total amount of time the players collectively play the game, and is randomly awarded to the players one coin at a time. Each hour played generates $0.xx worth of Gold. With 1,000 Gold, the player is eligible to take a seat in the Town Council and decide over matters of the gameworld. With 10,000 Gold, the King has no choice but to raise the player to Baronhood.

Character

Players have a character that, after the introductory levels, can take one of 5 career paths - Servants of the King (moderators and such), Engineers (game developers, also get a cut of ingame construction), Merchants (businessmen and people who want to pay to play), Scholars (wise people having an academic profession, and knowers of Bitcoin and Monero) and Artesans (handy townspeople who spend the time in taverns and earn when there is building going on in town). Each path has several levels with increasing perks and prestige.

The most advanced players in each path may be promoted to Nobility, again of different levels. Nobility owns large palaces in the most prestigious areas, and huge stashes of Gold. They may converse with the King, and when visiting drinkhouses, they always drink wine, which is 10 times more expensive than beer, and gives the tavernkeeper a good income. Or just entertain each other in their palaces and plan new businesses for Cryptocurrency's advancement.

Although there is no avatar, the profile page of a player can be accessed by clicking his name in the chat. That lists the picture, whatever the person wants to say, and his achievements in numeral lists, Badges, Medals, Honors, and Orders. The game has numerous ways to keep track of achievement, so each player may decide to excel in something, even if he lacks the resources to attain the cream of the society.

To Whom And Why

The game is directly playable in a browser and no questions are asked, also no deposit needs to be made. It can be started with never putting money in, and in fact 90% of the players are expected to do so, working from rags to... middle class, at least. 1% of the remaining 10% is expected to pay 90% of all income to the game. They also get promoted to the highest powers.

The game is developed especially to be a way to increase popular (small holder) interest towards Monero, but it will include many bonuses for MEW members joining. The ways how Monero (and any cryptocurrency whose holders gain presence in the game) can be promoted to the players are very many: information, chat, games, forum links, ways to invite other people in the game and give them a starting stash are just some.

Schedule

Estimate for a playable version consisting of basic functionality of Main map, Player mgmt, Funding the Acct, Wallpapers, Trollbox = 3 weeks from the start of coding. Estimate comes from the developer team.

Call To Crowdfunding Action

No companies or anything will be established, this is a virtual world, with account funded only by cryptocurrencies, and no official cashout possible. The initial quantity of Gold in the game is 1,000,000 Gold, and the amount will grow only very slowly until the game has thousands of players. As King, I will retain half of the gold, and half (500,000 Gold) will be sold to finance the development. The proceeds go to Town Council, which is owned in proportion to ownership of Gold. If - what is very much possible - the whole sum is not needed until the game turns profitable, it will be distributed as dividends, such as all profits.

Price of 1 Gold is 0.1 XMR, and the minimum quantity that can be purchased is 1,000 Gold = 100 XMR. Smaller quantities can be purchased ingame. This works out as 50,000 XMR crowdfunding round and 100,000 XMR valuation for the whole game.

If you are interested in crowdfunding-like exchanging totally immaterial and virtual and ridiculous and valueless XMR crypto"currency" (ever since 2014-4-18, almost half a year!) to totally immaterial and virtual and ridiculous and valueless Kingdom game ingame "Gold" (ever since next week) at a conversion rate above, indicate your interest below. (10,000 Gold gets you into Nobility as a Baron, more for higher.) Gold is sold while supplies last, and IF it is sold out fast, I will try to distribute it wider by cutting the subscriptions, but price will not be raised. If it sells a little only, so that I need to cut the price, the discount applies to all. Every right to do whatever else is retained as well.

I am happy to answer any questions! Smiley

Long term suggestion would be some kind of in-game crowdfunding (or economy) for new building new content, which would make the game self-sustaining and unlimited in scope.

The "building" typically consists only of "rooms" with similar functionality but different wallpaper. If the interface to make them consist of "anything" is easy enough, then there will spontaneously rise a class of Engineers (which is even mentioned in the intro). They are developers capable of plugging in the new stuff to people's houses and other places.

Crowdfunding and competition between guilds who has the biggest guildhouse with best goods is definitely part of the game!

So yes, great minds think alike Smiley

May I suggest that the probably be changed to never.

I don't consider being able to freely vote as being equal to big holders supporting the "hobby-participation" of the smaller ones.

One man's hobby is another man's life.

We are on the same page, but:

1) never say never

2) even if there says "never" in the Articles of Association, it only means "until 2/3 of the votes otherwise decide".

If any decision of the MEW CV is too much for any member or a group of them, the following will happen:

Quote from: MEW-AA
To give weight to the vote, it is possible to attach a conditional resignation to the vote. If the result comes against such voter, he is automatically resigned from MEW as a result and refunded. If the vote was concerning spending and the voter was against it, his refund is calculated prior to the spending takes place. It is not possible to revert such resignation except by applying membership anew.
- - -
The size of GF divided by the number of votes outstanding, gives the net asset value (NAV) per vote. In the event that a member's number of votes is reduced, the NAV for the votes surrendered is refunded to the member.

Discussion/interrupt

I have suddenly found me with an interesting project related to Monero. I also support a complete rewrite of the communications strategy, but do not have time to do it myself now. What this means (luckily!) is that it's time for anyone to write a communications strategy proposal that takes into account the emergence of a new forum. Just read the OP and all the thread and make use of the old ones as much as is good, and post it here as "New Proposal". That's the way it goes! Smiley

More than half of the Discussion period (of 168 hours) is still in front of us, the system is designed to handle quick turns... Grin
