The main problem with them is finding a tidy place to put the fan, and keeping them cool.
S_Natural gave some good tips, also adding another fan to make it push+pull radiator helps.

What I would suggest though is to install water cooling. Temps are easily down 10-30 celsius depending on your setup, gpu is fanless so it is silent and as a special bonus it becomes a one slot card, block+card+backplate is only 21mm thick.

They pull almost nothing from pcie slot so no need for risers. Add long tubing + radiators outside and you have a dirty powerful rig without heat/ noise problems.

Also avoid automated driver updates at all cost, as some of the more modern drivers will break your cards.

Easiest workaround for this is to roll back drivers in device manager, windows will ask reason for this and stops autoupdating.

Cards use bfr memory, modding straps gives a nice boost to equihash, from 660 closer to 800. Cryptonight gets some boost too, last time I tried dagger was unaffected. But that was many many dags ago so things could have changed.

To sum it up, if power is no problem and you have enough psu's and quality power cables+connectors, 295x2 is still a really nice toy to play with.

edit: It isn't a 8GB card, it is a 2 x 4GB card. So two turkeys doesn't make an eagle there...

Some of us run both, and know the strengths AND WEAKNESSES of both.

Agree +++

Adaseb really should at least touch one green gpu. They are not that bad.

There really is something wrong with the wallet/ daemon, both linux/ windows. No time to dig in right now but there is something.

Possible first aid for solo miners, try to run wallet on a rig with a powerful cpu. OC one or two cores if possible. Getting less stale shares?

i3-4130 , + CFLAGS solved all my issues except memory leaks. (I restart manually once in 24h)

If I had to guess it is qt.
Both cryptonited and qt crashes at least twice per 24h for me. And ever time the database gets corrupted so I have to keep an updated backup on another PC.

Qt has been crashing on me. I will let cryptonited run, so far it looks good. Linux/ windows.

If solo mining, do NOT run qt. Better?

<antantti out for a couple of days>

edit: After couple of hours of testing, cryptonited does it, minor cpu usage. Qt sucks windows/ linux.

Darkweb everywhere. Game over.

Have you guys been watching markets for the last 5 hours?
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monero CPU mining speed on: July 14, 2017, 02:57:07 PM
8M Cache, 2.93 GHz

Let me guess, 8M/2 --> 4 threads 55h/s each so 220.

389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What should be the plan after ETH mining dies ? on: July 14, 2017, 01:25:34 PM
Ropecoin.  Wink

Yep, Ropecoin is a safe bet. And never underestimate that rising star, Coffincoin. Honorable mention to Denialcoin, too.
390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Difficulty +11% in less than 24 hours. on: July 14, 2017, 11:15:35 AM
1080ti will do fine. When bought at $500.

it is a great vga card. I have tested one and it is running very well. 31 Mhs and a good cooling.

Great it is, hands down the best there is.

It has one problem though, mining performance. 31MH is so 2015, price tag is 2017.
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ccminer 2.0 - opensource - GPL (tpruvot) on: July 14, 2017, 11:04:59 AM
strange discussion here ... 1080ti is doing 1gh skein easily with alexis miner - no need of high power up.

When bensam gets to that mode there is nothing you can do (-:

392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any word on amd vega hash rates? on: July 14, 2017, 01:02:30 AM

And the profit will still be garbage, too many botnets on monero.

If I had to guess, all this gpu mining shit levels to xmr.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: July 14, 2017, 12:31:32 AM
print it out, frame it and put over your bed, then you will always remember Smiley

I will haha!!!

Promise... ahh, forget.

Mining is working my friend

MAGA!!!

Hash by hash.

who doesn't invest some time in research has to mine coins with shit profit - but tell me some business where you make money without any work?
also for trading you need to do research or you can lose a hell of money very fast Wink

btw. i just plan another new rig - this time with 1080ti due to more density than the existing 1070 rigs Smiley

For the record
396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: July 13, 2017, 11:06:31 PM
Right now...

It was never about marketcaps.

397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: July 13, 2017, 10:16:56 PM

Adaseb, you are too red. You missed some good (haha) mining years only because you were not looking to the green side.

That said, red or green, DO NOT BUY GPU's right now.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Home server for multiple coin staking on: July 13, 2017, 09:52:26 PM
If I had to put $2200 in crypto right now I would buy dcr and then pos mine it. But that is just me.

mmh not sure it is a good thing, but in the past with decred it was possible to do 0.5 btc/month with just 1k decree now you can only do 0.3 btc/month with 2k decree

by the time you reach 1/4 or half of your roi time you will do much less than that, at some point you will be forced to sell your decred, hoping that they are not undervalued...
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: July 13, 2017, 08:35:46 PM
Yes, you can read, congratulation Smiley

I still have some hope left!!!

Haha, not really, buying more 1080 Ti.   Grin

Brave trooper you must be.
400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: July 13, 2017, 08:25:06 PM
5000 thousand pounds, that is too bloody expensive. I doubt even a mindless troll would buy that computer hehe
never think that there is not somewhere an idiot who would do it Wink

you have 1070s on ebay sold for $ 600 and more, in regular shop you got the same card for $ 450.

So, 1070 for $600 is expensive and ETH for $200 is cheap?
