I joined up over here in 2012-13. At the time it seemed like a way to make a quick buck. Overtime as i read about it more and more, i became interested in the freedom it provides. As time has went on however, my interest and belief in bitcoin have waned. I won't get into the details of why, but i'm wondering what your honest opinion of bitcoin is, with a simple vote, and possibly an explanation.

I joined about the same time. At the time I was very interested in Bitcoin from a technical point of view, and I'm still interested just as much. Starting with the first bubble of 2013 (i.e. April), 90%+ of the people seemingly "interested" in Bitcoin were just circle jerking in their greed.

Don't get me wrong: I'm cool with greed, but people that were just hanging around because, you know, get rich quick 'n all, they bring nothing, nada, zip, nil to the community. Go watch your ticker, feed another trollbox and stop making noise.

And I won't even get into details about the horrible shitcoin spree all over the place at the same time.

Then it started deflating, and my hopes were that it would weed out the noise (on this forum and in general).

I don't know if it actually happened. At least the developments on max block size extensions are interesting to follow.
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis-mining.com || World's leading hashpower provider! on: January 13, 2016, 10:07:43 PM
Short update for everyone! The site is planned for relaunch tomorrow. You will get more info in an official announcement by email.

Thanks for the info.

My last payout from a few minutes ago is marked as non-standard transaction that should not be trusted and doesn't appear on blockchain.info.

Any ideas?

A video would be very nice indeed.

The construction is simple enough, but I was wondering about the impact on board temperatures, even with a two-holes construction with pull/push air configuration. I had experimented a bit with S1 and S3 before and always found open air to be the most reasonable configuration.

how i can disable 2fa? i have tried it, but i am not able

As you can see you aren't the only one around having problems with Google Auth at HASHNEST Sad

If you have carefully synchronized your clock already and still can't withdraw you should open a ticket, support can be slow but they do respond eventually. Personally I have been able to withdraw, even though the form takes a lot of time (>1 minute) to process, it worked.

Why not give it a shot over here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=250249.0 ?

If only their hardware could be bought at ROI-able price...

They do really great ASICs, but mostly for themselves.

As for this miner, with such generic information and at 5 months of halving, it's dubious IMHO and I would not risk any preorder...

OK, so it wasn't just my coding ineptitude that prevented me from getting the block data? Ha!

No, it wasn't Wink

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can get done.

Check out my new public AntPool block data API, hopefully you will be able to extract some nice pools stats from here and integrate them with your global pool surveys. With about 25% of the global hashrate, I guess it can improve stats quality.

Now everyone can scrape block data easily and without the hassle of authentication.
393  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: MAAAPI - Matt's Alternative AntPool API on: January 08, 2016, 02:50:20 PM
Public AntPool block data API has been added!

The current official AntPool API does not provide any block history, although it is publicly available on the web from the official AntPool website. From now on, MAAPI provides a JSON REST API to this data to the public, though its own API.

394  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: January 08, 2016, 06:33:36 AM
hey, thanks for responding Matt. I'll check it out when I get home, hopefully I can write a new script to access it. How many of the past blocks does it record?

EDIT: just read https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1309787.msg13407296#msg13407296

It seems that I'd still need to write some script to generate the signature required - any way around that?

I'm updating my code to add a public block API that was always missing from the original API.

It will be derived from the publicly accessible data on their website, for some reason this data cannot be queried from their API at all, so I will be adding this in a few hours. Additionally it's currently script-inaccessible because of the same CF issue.

Stay tuned...
395  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: MAAAPI - Matt's Alternative AntPool API on: January 07, 2016, 10:53:47 AM
Actually, the problem is not that the official AntPool API is overloaded, but it can no longer be used a side effect of the CloudFlare DDoS protection that they switched on about 4 weeks ago.

Since then, it is impossible to access the API using a regular REST HTTP client like curl, because any request to the API will result in a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable response code by the CloudFlare filter. In a regular browser, some JavaScript code would execute and then redirect to the requested page, but it doesn't work for the API.

In order to get through the CloudFlare filter, it is necessary to use a headless browser to evaluate and solve the CloudFlare challenge, then get the clearance cookie, and send it with the request. It's exactly what the proxy (MAAAPI) does.

This way, it's not necessary to modify existing clients to add a complicated system to get through the CloudFlare filter as described above.

800E for it ! And 75E SHIP TO all Eu

800€ is a plain ripoff. Better try on eBay for that sort of thing Roll Eyes
397  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling 1TH/s AntMiner S2 1000GH/s BITCOIN on: January 06, 2016, 08:16:33 PM
I don't think the S2 comes with a RPi controller.

Yes he probably meant BBB
398  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: January 06, 2016, 06:45:11 PM
What do u guys think about S7 prices? How is that going to look in the future?

I tend to believe the difficulty will not skyrocket as much as others think until the halving, because I estimate there are still about 200PHS (25% current total) running above 0.5 J/GH on the network that will have to be shut down / replaced as newer, more efficient hashrate is added.

That's why I think S7 prices are a bit undervalued right now and it's a bargain for both traders and "hashers".
399  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: January 06, 2016, 06:35:17 PM
24 Hours  3 Day 1 Week 2 Weeks 1 Month  3 Months  All
80.00%  98.00%  99.00%  96.00%  96.00%  97.00%  99.00%

I've got my own miners on Antpool using PPS and my Hashnest hashrate is obviously PPLNS. After scaling both hashrate/payout and comparing them, they are very, very close in December, PPS is actually even higher. I prefer PPS for my peace of mind...

@BITMAIN

Now you're using cloudflare I can't scrape your block data anymore, and your API is opaque and unnecessarily complicated (ie I can't get it to work) for your block data API. Can't you open up either your pool stats page or make the API more user friendly? I dont think a signature and nonce should be required to view the pool stats API.

I've made an alternative API here because of this issue, although I guess it's useless to you as you were doing it through their website and not their API.

About scraping their blocks, their guide doesn't even document this AFAIK. That's too bad Sad

These are only useful as smart heaters or someone with "free" power.

How much is a good price for you given the above statement? I guess about 0.25BTC at best? (not a bid)
