Empathy is a weakness ?
Correct. Rationality beats empathy any day.

Without empathy human would not have live so long time, it's the base of our society/family/clan !
Appeal to tradition. Just because we might have needed empathy before in order to survive, that doesn't mean that we need it today. Furthermore, just because it might have been useful before that doesn't mean that it is useful today.

...I won't forget that he took on his own time to help with empathy someone he didn't know.
I have helped thousands of users here over the years, and felt no empathy towards any case. You do not need empathy to help someone. You were saying?

Tl;dr: actmyname is a good user. /thread
3802  Other / Meta / Re: Why is account selling allowed? on: February 09, 2018, 07:40:09 AM
Forum policy: "We can't stop everyone from doing it, so we won't disallow it."
I guess we can't stop everyone from murdering others, so we won't disallow that either. Oh wait.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For the administration, >90% of account sales would be trivial to catch and could done with somewhat simple scripts.
3803  Economy / Reputation / Re: The balls of a moron: adekpulpen. on: February 09, 2018, 07:37:36 AM
There are different cases for this. IMO, people shouldn't:
a) Outright beg for merit.
b) Outright beg for post reviews via PM.

I do not think that we should instantly tag people who fall under the category 'b' (which is not the case with OP). However, if the user displays a pattern of asking several members for this, we should tag them IMO. What do you think?
3804  Economy / Reputation / Re: Don't trust LAUDA on: February 09, 2018, 07:35:20 AM
Don't trust Lauda.

Abusing the trust system and destroying competitor with fake scam accusation.
Laura was accused for scam and was kicked out of staff as a result.

DO NOT TRUST THEM

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1938190
Who's laura? LOL.
Some people occasionally call me Laura. In most cases, it's unintentional. Some have, however, done it intentionally. Is it a fitting name to call me? Well, I can't neither confirm nor deny that. Let your imagination do its thing. Wink
3805  Economy / Reputation / Re: Quickseller’s Rumour-Mongering on: February 09, 2018, 07:32:21 AM
Usually, I would agree with you.  But in this context, “everyone” is necessarily limited to those who are familiar with the situation.  Surely, that must be a minority of forum members; what about the rest?  That means not only readers but also potential customers, insofar as Lauda does business on the forum.

I think that Quickseller is trying to seriously damage Lauda here.  (Punitive damages terms such as “actual malice” come to mind.  That’s the worst; selling a DT account to a scammer only seems like “wanton and willful disregard” to me.)  I think the attempt will fail; but it could succeed, if rumour-mongering were to be left unanswered.  The key is to pay just the right amount of attention, not too much (amplifying it) and not too little (letting baseless accusations take root as rumours).
This is not limited to me, but has rather started with OP attacking tspacepilot who ended up exposing his schemes and lies. OP has been badgering him for months about CoinChat incident (see doogluses rating on tspacepilot). Then he proceeded to attack Dooglus, then Vod, then me and he ended up sticking with me. All of his attacks on those people were baseless and never got him anywhere, but as you've said, it only didn't have any real effect because people stood up with it. There are a lot of people that aren't familiar with any of this and could easily believe him.
There's also his thread "List of users that condone violence - avoid doing business with anyone listed", where he attacked several people for not obeying to his wishes (that being, either removing or neg. rating Vod IIRC).

(On a related note, there should be a FAQ somewhere with an entry, “Why is Quickseller the single most distrusted active user on the forum?”)
That's a very good idea; the thread would deserve a lot of merit.

That's the ultimate honor that one can attain here; being accused of being a cat Tongue

“Posts like a lion.  +50”

3806  Other / Meta / Re: Should the lowest merit spenders among us be known? on: February 08, 2018, 10:58:41 AM
If we want the merit system to be used as intended the people who are hoarding their merit should be made public.
<- Technically I'm not a person, but this cat does send very little merit.

There is nothing wrong with that. You are assuming that I'm not sending merit to people because I do not want to. The problem is that there is a very little number posts actually worth meriting. I am not going to:
a) Find a good user and go through his/her post history and merit their posts (see the recent abuse report against Xandry).
b) Waste countless hours digging through garbage in order to find something that is worth meriting[1].

Once the problem of garbage-quality posting is alleviated to some degree, then I will likely be sending out more merit points. The intended functionality of the system is as follows: You continue to use the forum as you have until its introduction. If you see something that seems constructive (to you) and you feel like it deserves points, then you give it points. You should not be forced to find posts that are worth meriting.

Nothing against the OP, but posts like these and especially threads where shitposters/farmers (et. al.) complain about the system are just further enforcing my conservative stance. There is no, and there should be no, obligation to do anything[2].

[1] I'm aware of the generosity of some users, but not everyone is like that and not everyone has time to open *giveaway* threads and not everyone agrees with those either.
[2] I wonder if it would be *right* to, e.g. pay someone to spend time finding posts that are constructive and should be merited. Either, a user with a lot of merit points paying someone to find posts that should be merited, or paying a user that has a lot of merit points to spend time (working) finding constructive posts and meriting them.
This system has raised a lot of *unique edge cases* and thus also questions.
3807  Other / Meta / Re: Competition, need sponsors Legendary, Heroes, Sr., Fully on: February 08, 2018, 10:51:42 AM
If you send people merit for promoting or solely for posting about (or suggesting) certain ICOs or *campaigns*, it is very likely that both you and the participating users will be neg. rated. This is not the way that the system was meant to be used.

Your idea is not only stupid, it's fucking retarded.
A post worth meriting.
3808  Other / Meta / Re: Rejoice! Actmyname is soon to be demoted on: February 08, 2018, 08:26:11 AM
KWH, I know you were being sardonic, but I got PMs like this when I was tagging shitposters:
-snip-
And I found it extremely sad, but the fact is that these people are ruining their "workplace" and should be "fired".  At the very least they should exercise some family planning judgement and only have kids when they can afford them.  Relying on a sig campaign is just plain wrong to my eyes.
A few remarks:
a) Any story like that can be trivially made up.
b) The odds that it is made up are very high.
c) It is not your fault that people are irresponsible with their lives.
d) Empathy is a weakness. All it does is cloud your judgement, thus severely impacting your ability to think rationally.

-snip-
Drop it, the lot of you. This is childish.
There are primarily two individuals being childish here, the rest are not.
3809  Other / Meta / Re: Who wields the Banhammers? Do we have enough? on: February 08, 2018, 08:21:37 AM
1) Merit system will make the work easier for mods. This is because a lot of shit posters will just leave the forum as they know that they cannot rank up now just with activity.
It is not so simple, and we are far from that scenario. Merit is being abused left and right, especially in local sections. Account farmers and shitposters are essentially that, pest. From experience, one should know that exterminating pests isn't easy.

3) They might have to handle the additional work related to merit but we can make things easier for them.
I don't see any extra work for moderators that is a direct consequence of the merit system.

The answer is: No, we do not. This place has gotten considerably worse since BadBear departed.
3810  Economy / Reputation / Re: Quickseller’s Rumour-Mongering on: February 08, 2018, 08:13:14 AM
Being new here

... are you sure you're new?  Huh
That’s not a new question to me.
Well, your posting is unexceptionally well for this place. This is not something that users are used to given the state that the forum is in. I like your posts, regardless of their content.

That being said, in a section so oft subjected to crazy x=y accusations, I wonder which of you I’ll be accused of being someday.  I will know that I’ve achieved true forum greatness if I’m accused of being resident crackpot theory target Lauda—in which case, my only response to Quickseller is that his accusations are baseless and so outrageous I will not dignify them with a reply, save to make fun of his basement-dwelling ways.
That's the ultimate honor that one can attain here; being accused of being a cat Tongue

As for the question of whether I’m really new, I don’t deny it; therefore by QS logic, I must be.  Q.E.D.
I don't deny [insertCrimesXYZ], thus I must be guilty of it. Sounds plausible.
3811  Other / Meta / Re: Rejoice! Actmyname is soon to be demoted on: February 07, 2018, 06:32:53 PM
maybe because the neg you got doesnt effect your account whatsoever since youre not in the red...
Of course it does.

what are you even talking about lol??? you just seem like a power hungry person , laughing at somebodys misfortune for entertainment with 0 horse in the race and you dont even care at all.......
Are you really trying to insinuate that I care enough about some random to laugh at their misfortune? Classic humans.

when ive been negged for trying to get 1 merit for a good post negged for life
Said who? I've told you that I might reconsider after I've been forgiven. However, that makes no assurance that anyone else is going to forgive you and that you won't receive more ratings in the meantime.

By doing that, aren't you basically agreeing with Shorena's actions against you?
I am not.
3812  Other / Meta / Re: Rejoice! Actmyname is soon to be demoted on: February 07, 2018, 06:22:49 PM
It's been 1+ year since *my mistake*, and the rating is still here. Therefore, after shorena removes mine and the same amount of time passes for yours, I *might* remove it. Equality, I guess. Cheesy
If you feel you are being punished, why would you use that as an excuse to punish others?   Undecided
The case is exactly the opposite of that. If I am not being forgiven after X amount of time, why should I forgive someone else after 1/4 of the time? :thinks: Equality, to some degree. You might be a rather forgiving God in comparison to the Cat. Wink

Senselessly insulting others and leaving fake retaliatory negative trust ratings will surely help you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, not smart asapjoshyy...  :/
I never understood why people just stoop to that after you tell them no. The more intriguing cases are those that act very nicely and then make a complete turn after you reject their requests.
3813  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit questions on: February 07, 2018, 06:19:31 PM
Merit given recently.  No way I can catch up to QuestionAuthority - how did he get so much sMerit?

Quote
738: QuestionAuthority
334: TMAN
303: Vod
Different sources have different amounts per month. I assume he got a very high amount (several hundred) + the initial sMerit he got for his rank.

how about we compromise.. ive been around 6 months

give me 3 months ,  0 mistakes with good posts
if i pass this i will be trusted again?

when im literally asking what can i do to prove im a trustworthy person...... im trying to say i messed up and what can i do to make this right??
I would suggest asking shorena after 1 year after your *mistake*. Grin
3817  Other / Meta / Re: Rejoice! Actmyname is soon to be demoted on: February 07, 2018, 06:01:04 PM
i understand .... but this one 15 year old kid who distrusts me without even knowing anything about me ruined my entire account...
With nullius and me, that makes three  15 year old kids. Thanks for pointing out your case to me; missed that one.

I honestly think the 7 day ban was right..
7 days bans are useless and worth nothing. Wake me up when you are banned for at least 60 days.
3818  Economy / Reputation / Re: Former Staff member Lauda has a pill addiction - *not disputed by lauda* on: February 07, 2018, 05:31:01 PM
And take no further action?
I generally take action when I feel it is necessary.  Cheesy
Assuming the 24 hours have already passed, would you feel that action was necessary?

(Next standard twist:  Classic “begging the question”.  “Lauda, when did you stop leaving negative trust tags while in drug-fuelled rages?”)
Does waking up and being extremely grumpy because you haven't had coffee yet count?

Lauda, in the absence of evidence, you are under no obligation whatsoever to deny, to explain why you won’t deny, or to do anything other than ridicule Quickseller as the obscene buffoon he is.
Thanks.

Those evidentiary photographs posted upthread by minerjones don’t look so good, Lauda.  Do you deny doing lines of catnip with your kitties while sitting atop a huge pile of Bitcoins and laughing maniacally?  Do you deny it?  Very interesting, you don’t deny it...
Guilty as charged. I just can't resist my nip. Purr.. Embarrassed

LAUDA, I dreamed that you were the space alien creature that the Six Million Dollar Man fought back in 1977.
-snip-
Since I have never seen you once deny this, I will assume Quickseller is the pedophile everyone talks about.
I can neither confirm nor deny this accusation. I'm guessing that means that I am the creature Huh
3819  Economy / Reputation / Re: I Got hacked?? Someone used my all sMerit on: February 07, 2018, 04:35:58 PM
Very flimsy proof though, isn't it?
We are at:
  • Reasonable (articulable) suspicion:  You have a suspicion which can be clearly explained in reasonable terms.  More than a mere hunch; much more than a guess.  But still no more than a suspicion.
  • Probable cause:  On the face of things (at first sight, “prima facie”), the accused probably did it.
  • Preponderance of the evidence:  Evidence of guilt outweighs evidence of innocence.  Implemented via those balance scales you see carved into statues of blindfolded ladies.  Note:  This requires reasonable thoroughness in loading both sides of the scale, not just stuffing one side and jumping to a conclusion.
  • Clear and convincing evidence:  Evidence of guilt is strong.  Evidence of innocence is weak or nonexistent.
  • Moral certainty, beyond a reasonable doubt:  The only way he didn’t do it is if space aliens did it instead.

How did the "hacker" use the account unnoticed while the OP was still posting? Over the course of a week.
How would you notice this without checking your merit points? You wouldn't.

If I send merits to Lauda and Quickseller and claim I was hacked... that would make you two alts of each other.
Not necessarily.

This needs more evidence I think.
Sure, and/or xandry needs to get fired and the Russian section killed. Simpler solution.
