3803  Other / Meta / Re: Writing a welcome message on: September 23, 2018, 10:29:09 PM
I would add a reminder to read the stickies, as some sections have specific rules and regulations.

Actually, reading the pinned posts will give you all the initial information you would possibly need as a newbie.

Happy to see one more crossed out from the list with suggestions Smiley
3804  Other / Meta / Re: Most annoying word of forum on: September 23, 2018, 09:57:51 PM
Just a few days ago the most annoying word was "@theymos".
Even though I have used it a few times,  I still don't like it.

Maybe they are not so many now but a few days ago there were none. Now I find two pages (more than 100 hits) with Russian and hompgraphs.

Seems like the search engine does not return the all the results. Strange.

Hompgraphs are back again, I'm away for a few days and they started showing up again.

Yeah, they are visible to everyone, but if you make a self moderated thread you can delete them. I use a thread that I made for completly different purpose, but its only for testing.

It is working for me now.

Just to let you know that I'm trying to access the site (https://bpip.org) and I can't. It says: "problem when loading the page". I suppose this is temporary.

It's working fine with me.
3812  Other / Beginners & Help / What a newbie can do to popularize bitcoin? on: September 21, 2018, 10:51:19 PM
Got your attention? Great, keep reading then.

It's not much of a question but it's more like a task for newbies. You may get reward in form of merit at the end.Keep reading..

I'm tired to see all this bounty bullsh!t here in B&H section that's why I want to add a little "fresh air".

Strait to the point.

First:I want you to come with ideas what a newbie can do to help and popularize bitcoin.Use your imagination and don't copy the suggestions before your post.

Second:  In addition I want to know what is your mission here in the forum. Just a few words, but let them be honest.
That's all. Good luck.

Where is the catch??  It's simple, many people don't even read the posts, they just reply to the subject, let's see how many will be here,I'll make a list and quote them  before I delete their posts. Yes, this is self-modated thread, that's right. In addition, many people are lying, so if someone says that he is here mainly to learn  but his post history clearly shows that he's just an ordinary bounty hunter, then I could probably leave a comment on his trust page that he so not to be trusted, this is still under consideration.
I guess there will be also tl'dr folks and when they reach to the "rewarding merit" part will jump into writing "quality posts" for merit. This is just an experimental approach to reward some good posters and report some shitposters, I don't have quite a lot of merit but, we'll see how far we gonna go.
Let's the journey begins now. It'll be interesting to read your stories and suggestions Wink
3813  Other / Meta / Re: Can I hide my email addresses? on: September 21, 2018, 07:15:02 PM
wiser question though. but i think none can see the email only admin can
Mine is hidden too. I can see it's hidden if I open my profile in other browser.

How do I make sure it's hidden? Where is the settings?

Merge your posts into one, delete the second one and make sure to not do the same mistake again.
3814  Other / Meta / Re: Is it okay to go on as a member without caring so much about merits? on: September 21, 2018, 06:48:06 PM
Is it possible to continue as a bitcointalk member even without trying too hard to achieve a single merit?
This is what the forum is all about, I've said it many times. Don't chase the merit, just post when you feel you have something to say, not because you are pushed to post by the sig. campaign rules. Then you don't have to worry about the merit, and it will come eventually Smiley

Quote
Does the merit have anything to do with trust ratings?

No, trust is only market-related and you build it only based on your training history. There are some exceptions too, like bad behaviour not moderated by the forum staff sometimes lead to a negative trust from the Default Trust Member (DTs), those are scams, merit abuse, asking for loan without collateral, cheating on bounties with alt accounts, etc
3815  Other / Meta / Re: why shitposts? on: September 21, 2018, 12:46:15 PM
~

It's not about giving your own opinion.
Shitposters are those who try to fulfill the signature campaign requirements without effort, and most of the time they have nothing to say on the subject but post anyway.
All those trying to make a living out of the bounties turned this place into a shithole. Sorry to say that but it's true, where money and freedom are involved you will always find abusers, and here is almost no control and they become greedy and abuse the freedom more and more.
3816  Other / Meta / Re: Romanization of Russian in the English posts. on: September 21, 2018, 10:50:46 AM
Transliterated is nothing new, I'm using Cyrillic and often when I send SMS for example I use Latin the same way. It's just a bad habit.
Some /many/ years ago writing an SMS in Cyrillic was double charged so people begin to use the Latin instead.
When I use the phone I'm a bit lazy in switching in between languages but on the PC, always use the correct alphabet.

But this is quite strange situation here.
As I see it, it was fail automated translation attempt or attempt to hide plagiarism if you try to copy the sentence.

Example >
Quote
It zapatentovana proprietary technology used by the company. These are two important factor on which bitcoin is better.
So why would they write a quite OK English and suddenly they don't know a word, and put a Russian transliteration instead of search for translation.

I sometimes use Google translate for some things and often if you write a word that is spelled wrong it gets automatically transliterated in Latin, same thing happens if the word is not in the google dictionary and cannot translate it.

The other quote >
Quote
It is an excellent and very vdohnovljajuscaja history, but no) Personally, I have little money and I need to study at the Institute, poetomu I can't afford it.

"вдoxнoвляющaя" should be transliterated like vdokhnovlyayushchaya and not like vdohnovljajuscaja and it stands for inspiring.

I'm actually more to believe that they try to hide copy-pasting,plagiarism,translating comments from Russian to English instead of replacing the word they don't know transliterated one.

3817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Important is 100B MarketCap for BTC on: September 21, 2018, 08:18:19 AM
~

It's not so easy to integrate the bitcoin as a payment system when you have to pay taxes and your country has not defined rules and regulation on bitcoin, yet.
BTW I still own the shop but I'm not living in the country anymore, so it could be easier if I'm there on the spot to have a control on it.
3818  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: September 21, 2018, 07:49:04 AM
Normally I give a lot of merit to newbies, but these days after the change, the forum is like a street full of beggars. Everyone is trying to get merit in one way or another, begging, cursing the merit system, loving the merit system, just posting memes in hope to get some, etc. It's just crazy time now. I'll wait some time unlit things are a bit more settle down and the beggars are a bit discouraged then I'll start giving as before. I guess there are more people doing the same.
3819  Other / Meta / Re: [Beta] @mention notification bot open for testing on: September 21, 2018, 07:31:44 AM
Found maybe a bug in the bot.

I was quoted in a thread but the notification shows that the quote is in another thread.

This is the correct thread where I was quoted >

For Legendary we know already > Amph = 28889 posts but guess what, he got only 1 merit Cheesy

Interesting that for 28889 posts he only earned 1 merit. I was going through his posts and he is definitely no shit-poster. His posts are generally reasonably good but just really short so don't attract merit.

This is the notification from the bot leading to the missing quote :
iasenko, you have been quoted in the following messages:

I was thinking that, maybe xtraelv quoted me on a wrong thread and then deleted his comment but it this case I should have received a notification for both quotes. but...
Here is the topic and message IDs :

original quote.

3820  Other / Meta / Re: Campaign Managers and Bots. The main reason for the SPAM. Solutions? on: September 20, 2018, 04:56:28 PM
I decided to take the opportunity and test hilariousetc's idea for the DT's Team.

We /The Spambusters/ gonna try to analyze those who we report and collect some data for the bounties and the managers.
I'll make a list with the accused managers and will try to provide some proof for further consideration.

After the big change we have to wait the things to settle down for a while. Then we should focus on the campaign manager and see how they're doing their work.

I wrote a list with suggestions for short rules for conducting sig. campaigns but the draft got deleted due to the long time between edits, I'll write it again soon.
I think we need clear guidelines because now there are just a few stickies here and there but nothing concrete on one place.
