Translated from Greek: https://www.digitallife.gr/kapios-agorase-ena-spiti-me-bitcoin-ke-egine-kata-13-ekatommiria-dolaria-plousioteros-85176

Quote
Although Bitcoin has often been the focus of recent stories relating to cases where truly whole fortunes have been lost because of the unpredictable, a man from California was very fortunate in buying a home and all that, thanks to the familiar digital currency . In a recent interview Markets Bloomberg, the CCO Bitpay, Sonny Singh , said the volatility of the currency helped the acquirer to make a profit by buying it in the order of $ 1.3 million during the Bitcoin exchange with US dollars .

The Singh and his company recently approached by a manufacturer that operates in the field of real estate and who said that was interested buyer for a house, just like the transaction to be done with Bitcoin . Having settled all pending issues related to this transaction, the two sides reached a price which at the time stood at $ 4 million approximately.

And while the value of Bitcoin was $ 750 in the early stages of the transaction by the end of the transfer the value of Bitcoin had risen to $ 1,000 , creating profit to the new owner amounting to over one million dollars, and bought a house at 25% cheaper !

Even in Greece, one can't differentiate between a profit of $1.3M and saving $1.3M. It's almost like these publishers have a Leroy Fodor math book at their ready for easy reference when espousing rudimentary functions.

Q. If a farmer had one cow and bought another cow, how many ...
A. Chicken!
Test giver: Close enough. You won a Lamborghini.
Q. What's a Lamborghini?
A. It's like a chicken but with wheels and is more profitable.
Test taker: Can we go outside and play now? Sally wants me to park my chicken in her garage.

And you can't have a home purchased via bitcoins without some mortgage-based rag making mention of it, but first about the periodical in question: http://nationalmortgageprofessional.com/about-us

Quote
National Mortgage Professional Magazine has become "The Source for Top Originators" - that connects the mortgage professional community under various media formats.  Our exceptional team of industry-seasoned monthly contributors combined with our knowledgeable editorial staff, all with meaningful expertise in their respectful disciplines, provide the most up-to-date news, insight and advice for today's mortgage professional. Now onto the BULLSHIT they're feeding their user base, NMP citing a venerable trade rag in the cryptocurrency space - CoinTelegraph:

http://nationalmortgageprofessional.com/news/61947/homebuyer-makes-profit-using-bitcoin

Quote
According to a report in The Coin Telegraph, an individual seeking to purchase a $4 million residence in California contacted BitPay, an Atlanta-based Bitcoin payment service, to coordinate the transaction entirely in Bitcoin. The buyer secured $4 million in Bitcoin at a time when the digital currency was worth approximately $750 on the global Bitcoin exchange market.

But at the time the buyer initiated the final payment, Bitcoin’s value skyrocketed to $1,160—an increase that was fueled, in large part, by the devaluation of the Chinese yuan and the December rate hike by the Federal Reserve [prior to the markets correcting themselves, one first, then a second, ... mostly due to structural failure because the fire was just too intense]. Thus, the buyer—who was not publicly identified—wound up with a $1.3 million profit in the currency exchange rate.

“The buyer actually ended up making about 25 percent in the currency exchange rate, essentially, in the appreciation,” said Sonny Singh, chief commercial officer at BitPay. “He got a house for pretty much 25 percent cheaper.”

To recap:

Sonny Singh clearly states on a broadcast that a real estate developer initiated the conversation with Bitpay.

The story was first picked up by Bitcoin Magazine.

A couple other rags followed suit, basically rehashing the same story.

Some rags have the seller making the profit, not the buyer, in spite of there not being any profit.

CoinTelegraph then published the same account adding their facts to the article.

A real estate trade rag opted to quote CoinTelegraph because they are <see the content gleaned from their About page above>.

Meanwhile, this thread tries to present the truth of the matter, yet crickets from any rag.

And we wonder why crypto is having a hard time gaining cred in spite of some homeless dude finding a laptop loaded with 30,000 bitcoins whose name has never been indexed by Google et al. prior to the find - Carl Pattersfield. I guess that goes hand-in-hand with this space having a Bitcoin Jesus; a Christian dude vouching for BFL on April Fools Day; a lead dev vouching for Craig Steven Wright as being Satoshi Nakamoto; a Chinese relic collector who hacks an exchange but returns the bitcoins, later put on another exchange in Japan that goes belly-up thanks to a dude who left France to avoid prosecution but was vetted to run Mt Gox under the auspices of an entity named after his cat across the street from Bitcoin Jesus who once went on the air ...; a stolen valor dude who just so happened to work across the street from a Section 8 housing project where the office of his future boss was located, later it - BFL - fucking over thousands of its users while said employee was later able to purchase a half-million-dollar home via bitcoins on a $50K-a-year salary; need I continue?

On 3 October DASH were 0.019 BTC each. By the 31 October they were 0.012 BTC each. Is that what the receiver accomplished by closely monitoring the markets, and dumping at opportune moments in October 2016? An opportune moment for shorting DASH was immediately before he dumped.

I'm curious if a rogue receiver could've taken advantage of knowing that he'll soon dump alts on the market, thus allowing him to purchase select alts at some point prior, then selling them off for a profit when the market was favorable prior to dumping Cryptsy's altcoins in his control on the market allowing the chips to fall where they may since he had no financial interest in the latter, fully knowing that any substantial dump would lower the respective alts exchange rate. Conversely, repurchasing favorable alts at the lower price point knowing that most likely that his alts would recover, later dumping once again. In essence, not only profiting twice but getting paid from the courts for said activities. Remember, we're talkin' here about a receiver surrounding himself with a professional team with no mention if they're truly acting at all times in the best interests of those financially harmed, akin to billionaires taking a cut in pay to become cabinet members of a billionaire president under the auspices of serving, and looking out for the populace.

It's possible, but Hanlon's razor asserts "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity". If the receiver has no trading experience he should have delegated the job to an experienced trader instead of dumping (assuming he dumped).

It's a similar story for Ethereum Classic. On 01 October Ethereum Classic were 0.002 BTC each, and by 31 October they were 0.0012 BTC each.

Akin to Bitcoinica's assets parked on Mt Gox, simply put on the altcoins on some Romanian exchange that's controlled by some unknown CEO till some unclosed time waiting for the best. The best what, unknown, but the wait would be spectacular. If the receiver opts to continue controlling the alts, he's opening himself up for some Chinese relic collector who's buying his time to pounce.

Hahaha.  Funny.  I was actually just there but who needs to revolt in sub zero weather?  They're saying there in TV there was no violence which isn't true.  6 Jandarmi are in the hospital and some brought Molotov Cocktails.

I'm in my 4 star hotel now, eating me an apple and revolting by watching them revolt on the TV.  A least these guys have a reason to protest, unlike the Pussy Hatters in the USA.

The whole world is falling apart.  This is gonna get worse.  Much worse.

This is a really good apple.

Happy with the conclusion, as long as they keep going the truth will come out. I am only worried about the number of DASH found because I had much more in there alone  Cry

The reciver dumped all your DASH together with Cryptsy's Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Dodge, and Litecoin in October 2016. He got $330,000 for the lot.

Quote
I have analyzed with the assistance of my cryptocurrency forensics team which coins have a strong or high liquidation value, including, but not limited to, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Dash, Dodge, and Litecoin.

Quote
I have liquidated the majority of the high liquidity coins.

Quote
I accomplished this overall result by closely monitoring the different markets for each specific coin on a daily basis over a two to three week period in October 2016

I'm surprised he considers Dodge a high liquidity coin. I've heard of Doge, but never heard of Dodge.

i. Referring to Doge as Dodge as in Dodge City or Dodge the automobile maker because, quite frankly, we don't have a fuckin clue as to what the hell we're doin' akin to how Johann Gevers oversaw the liquidation of Sonny Vleisides' Laissez Faire City where to this very day nary an Investard has been returned one cent of their investment.

It's too optimistic. Possible for it to change dramatically in a day when something happens in China but a sustained climb like that everyday seem unlikely. My concern if that should happen is that might reduce the number of people that can actually buy bitcoins.

Sure it's too optimistic, hence converting the prediction into an equation in the OP to demonstrate how obscure the prediction truly is.

I see this as something positive. Everybody who has been around here long enough knows there is a multitude of scams going around, but new investors may still need to be warned.

The overall tone is also not negative about bitcoin itself, which is good.

Pakistani authorities launched an investigation accusing LEO Coin of Fraud and running an MLM scam.
They also froze their bank accounts
I found out today they had already done this before too..
I seen this.. Leocoin Office in Pakistan shut down by police

So.. go read the PDF.

Look at that one single scam coin of many.

Get it yet ?
That is not a sign of being legit.. that is a warning you will get ripped off and thrown in jail.
..and worse have your money seized.

3818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Funding Solar Energy with Bitcoin - a solid state & silicon based economy? on: February 01, 2017, 08:20:21 AM
Sorry I don't have time to talk to you any more, people are sending Bitcoin to me to buy solar cells so that they can earn inflation beating returns whilst electrifying Africa. It keeps me busy. It has been emotional.

no problem

if only your project wasnt just converting bitcoin instantly to fiat. i would have thrown a few in your direction..
but my spidey sense was tingling too much.

lets hope next year you make a subsidiary where the african community get bitcoin for doing some part of your projects to get bitcoin circulating in africa... then my interest would peak without the spidey senses tingling. and start to see something really inspiring

Well in all our projects, we pay out in Bitcoin to people that pay in ZAR, so we are kind of a hybrid Bitcoin Exchange. Some 8 year olds at the school used their pocket money to invest in their own schools solar plant and they are now earning bitcoin income for the next 20 years. They will grow up with and using Bitcoin. Maybe that is more in the direction you envisaged. Or Maybe not. Good night.

Quote
No bitcoins are held by The Sun Exchange, they are immediatly sold on digital currency exchanges and the fiat is used to buy physical solar cells.

I now get it! The banana company doesn't keep any bananas in its coffer, but accepts coconuts to pay out bananas (not kept in its coffer) to each and every banana company investor. How close and I? <forgive me if tires and strawberries would've been better examples>

The banana company wants to reduce its electricity running costs as it is paying Coal Power Inc. exorbitant amounts of money. Banana Company goes to The Sun Exchange and says:

'Hello The Sun Exchange! We are a banana company, we don't want to be generating our own electricity, we need to use our money to grow and store bananas, it is what we are really good at! Otherwise we would use our money to build a solar array to save on energy bills. Can you, The Sun Exchange, raise funds for our solar array, and then we will give the money that we would of given to Coal Fire Inc to the people that paid for our solar array, provided they can give us a discount compared to what we are paying now?'

To which the Sun Exchange replies 'Sure we can! That is what we do!'.

Sceptical bystander A says, 'Hang on a minute, if banana company is so great, why don't they just go to the bank and take out a loan'?

To which The Sun Exchange replied, 'Oh don't you know? Debt is really expensive in Africa, and although sustainable development for Africa is a top international priority, global development banks are not lending to small and medium sized businesses in Africa as the projects are too small and they are really just interested in helping multinational corporates set up shop here as they are all in each others pockets. So The Sun Exchange has been set up to fill in this missing funding gap.'

Kind of less Sceptical bystander A nodded in agreement and added 'So if I bought some solar panels for banana company, what would be my equivalent rate of return?'  '10% IRR.', The Sun Exchange answered.

'10%IRR?' No longer Sceptical bystander A said, 'Why that is better than keeping my fiat money in a bank! And less risky than keeping my money in this Bitcoin thing that I don't really understand that well, that is brilliant'

Scepitcal bystander B buts in and says, 'Woah woah woah... hang on....  The Sun Exchange, you call yourself a Bitcoin company but you are just using Bitcoin as a payment system! That is not revolutionary! I smell something really fishy here!'.

To which The Sun Exchange tuts, lets our a little sigh and says 'We have done everything we can to tailor the buying experience for people that use Bitcoin, and we are encouraging its use so that the bitcoin ecosystem grows which is good for you if you invest in bitcoin. We offer live BTC price tracking during our crowd-sales to make sure BTC bids are reflective of their true value and we are working on some pretty cool features to increase visibility and autonomy on rental payouts that would be impossible with fiat. We believe that bitcoin is to the world of money what solar energy is to the world of energy.... distributed & democratic and by merging these two radical technological inventions together, we think we can make the world better and less reliant on fossil fuels and conventional banking systems. We know there is some awesome things that can be done with things like 21Coin chips for mining with surplus solar power, and we will implement those kinds of things when we are ready to do so. No one built Rome in a day. Now stop getting so stroppy at strangers and let us get on with doing stuff we love.'

I think that my banana and coconut analogy confused you, bud. On one hand you stated that no bitcoins are held by The Sun Exchange, they are immediately sold on digital currency exchanges, then followed up we pay out in Bitcoin to people that pay in ZAR, we = The Sun Exchange. So, if The Sun Exchange liquidates all its bitcoins as soon as they get them, how the hell does The Sun Exchange pay out bitcoins dividends to those who paid in ZAR or bananas or coconuts.

Apologies for the analogy I put forth earlier, forgetting how hot it can get there in Africa sometimes affecting the brain.

Quote
Three years ago, Draper predicted the Bitcoin price to reach $10,000 by now. He remains optimistic regarding the increasing Bitcoin value and expects it to reach $10,000 in a year:

“I predicted a $10000 price on Bitcoin in three years about three years ago. Might take another year.”

That equates to 9,000/365 = $24.66 per day. Luckily, the blockchain is now able to handle all them transactions. It is able to ain't it? Surely, them behind-close-doors meetings were producing such solutions, attendees only taking breaks to advance a rumor or two as fodder for respective trade rags, eh?

We all so wish it increases by that margin on a daily basis but realistically and historically looking at the first month of the year it's been a forward and backward dance and so I don't really feel it will soar up by $25 daily but it can of course rise by that margin some days.

Bitcoin can be very volatile my friend. We have seen massive increases and decline in price, within a few hours. The smallest thing, sends the traders into a panic frenzy and then the bots kick in and everything goes to shit around here. A Chinese government official can only fart in his office, and it starts a ripple affect and eventually ends in a shit storm.

I do not think a increase like this will happen over a long period, it will happen in several days after a major announcement. ^smile^

Conversely, a third-party payment provider's CCO can leak info about one of it's well-to-do client's recent purchases, picked up by periodicals around the globe, to send exchange participates into a buying frenzy. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1767039.0 if not versed as to what I'm alluding to.
