3821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin protocol be changed to allow for a larger supply? on: February 02, 2020, 05:12:13 AM
I think alot of new people are confused and don't realise that "You don't need to buy a full Bitcoin", and they have no idea you can buy it in partial amounts. Most likely the reason for this is how the stock market operates. The price for Amazon stock is currently $2000, so you need to have at least $2000 to buy one share. If you have $1000 you can't own any Amazon stock. Hence why sometimes there are stock splits where the supply goes up 10x but the price goes down 0.1 so the stock price becomes $200 and more affordable.

With bitcoin this isn't needed since the units are down to a Satoshi and this is what most people don't understand. If the supply is increased or even possible to adjust then what is the point of Bitcoin really? It will be like fiat which had bad inflation and loses massive value overtime.

Currently 21 Million BTC  with satoshi units is enough for the entire planet to use.

Well.. this is another important issue that has been ignored by the core team for quite a long time. A huge number of people believe that in order to purchase Bitcoin, you need to buy one full BTC. A lot of awareness campaigns were taken out, with limited outcome. I had proposed to redenominate the BTC some years back. Each of the existing (old) Bitcoins should be replaced with 1,000 new coins. The total circulating supply will increase to 21 billion from 21 million. A lot of people argued that Satoshi is already there and we don't need redenomication. But the issue is that Satoshi is too small to be used as an unit. As of now the price of one Satoshi is just $0.000094 and it is very difficult to use that unit.
3822  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: February 02, 2020, 05:07:09 AM
Selector has given him a chance because India already won the t20 series so wanted to test the alternatives for openers but it seems he missed it and may never get an opportunity in future since IPL is on the way which is the place India finding new talents for shorter format of cricket.

He may get another chance today, as India is already up by 4-0 and the outcome of the final match is insignificant. But if he fails this time also, then I don't think that the selectors will retain him in the squad. The IPL 2020 will be starting next month, and Samson may be asked to prove his worth in the tournament before getting a slot in the national squad.

BTW, I heard that Kane Williamson may skip the 5th match, due to shoulder injury. That would mean that there will be more pressure on the other players, such as Tim Seifert.
3823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How diversified are you in Altcoins in Q1 2020? on: February 02, 2020, 04:55:14 AM
Here is my portfolio:

Bitcoin: 93.92%
Bitcoin Cash: 5.13%
Ethereum: 0.58%
Other altcoins: 0.37%

There was a time when altcoins composed almost 30% of my portfolio. But I reduced the proportion in 2018, when it looked as if the Bitcoin dominance was increasing. I sold most of my altcoins and tokens, except BCH and ETH. And it looks as if I did the right thing. If I had held on to my altcoins, then my net worth would have been much lower.
3824  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin protocol be changed to allow for a larger supply? on: February 02, 2020, 04:41:38 AM
I first registered to this forum almost 8 years back. Ever since then I am seeing threads like this one, which makes little sense. Why don't people understand that one of the key strengths of Bitcoin is the controlled supply principle? People like me invested in Bitcoin, because it is protected from inflation as a result of the controlled supply algorithm. You mess up with this, and Bitcoin will become similar to fiat currency. I understand that the miners would be happy to get an increased block reward, but my opinion is that they need to look for other options.
3825  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Super League (ISL) Football match updates, predictions and discussions on: February 02, 2020, 04:17:05 AM
If I'm not wrong, the match played between Chennai and Kerala seems to be the biggest match of this league. In terms of the game statistics Kerala leads in each and everything, starting from the ball possession, passes, accuracy and in all other match elements. Chennai looks to be strong in making the chances as a goal. This has made them win the fourth match continuously beating 6-3.

Yeah.. I watched the highlights. It was crazy, with 9 goals being scored in 90 minutes. This is the 3rd consecutive defeat for the Kerala Blasters and apart from Bartholomew Ogbeche, none of their players performed well during yesterday's match. On the other hand, the Chennaiyin FC performed as a team to demolish the Keralites in their turf. Rafael Crivellaro, Nerijus Valskis and Lallianzuala Chhangte were impressive. Chennaiyin are now 5th in the points table, and they have won all four out of their last matches.
3826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Okay. What is the main factor that boosts Altcoin value? Popularity or Tech? on: February 02, 2020, 04:00:18 AM
Altcoin value, popularity, acceptability and adoption is difficult to predict. Because I have seen shitcoins having market capitalization over $100 million and having millions of users (such as Dogecoin). But at the same time, I have seen technologically advanced coins such as Cardano, NEO and EOS going down in the market. So I would say that more than any other factor, it is pure speculation which is driving the prices. And it is not very surprising, because very few altcoins are used for purposes other than speculative investment.
3827  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-16] Chainalysis traced $2.8 billion crime bitcoin sent to Binance Huobi on: February 02, 2020, 03:35:59 AM
@bryant.coleman. I do not understand why listing some cryptocoins in the Nasdaq would stop scammers from scamming.

Also, do you support strict KYC on users? Exchanges that make it very hard on users to buy and sell coins might slow down adoption.

It won't stop the scammers from scamming. But if that occurs in NASDAQ, then the authorities can't give the usual excuse of not taking action against the criminals (the incident occurred at a jurisdiction, which is outside their area of operations). Scams would still occur, but the scammers won't be able to go scot free.

And secondly, as I pointed out I don't support KYC for exchange users. I have faced a lot of difficulty due to this. A few years back, I used to own several smaller altcoins and tokens and many of these tokens were listed only in one or two minor exchanges. I had to undergo KYC process at least a dozen times for several exchanges. In the end, I made the decision that enough is enough, and I should refuse KYC if any exchange demands it.

It is neither safe nor convenient to undergo the KYC process, just for selling your $10 worth of bounty. But I want the ICO promoters to undergo KYC.
3828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee called BITCOIN as a Shitcoin! on: February 02, 2020, 03:08:23 AM

The same goes with his McAfee exchange too, it is shit from the very beginning.
Look like he has missed the bitcoin bull run and getting very salty.

Are you talking about Mcafeedex, the decentralized exchange that was setup by this scammer? I didn't even tried creating an account, as I am sure that this guy only care about making profits and nothing else. Anyway, it is a DEX exchange and he may not be able to steal anyone's tokens. But be careful about order book rigging. I know that the chances are very remote, but since we can't trust this guy I am looking at all the possibilities. For my part, I am keeping a comfortable distance from Mcafeedex.
3829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pet shop want to become a bitcoin exchange? on: February 01, 2020, 06:15:16 AM
I’ve got a pet shop and I wanted to accept bitcoin and alt coins then I was reading about becoming a bitcoin exchange ... is this possible? I understand it’s worth goes up and down.

First check whether the usage of cryptocurrency as a payment is allowed in your country. If there are no legal issues, then you can accept Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency as a payment - either directly, or using a payment processor (such as Bitpay or BIPS). I would advise you to go for a payment processor. Because it will immediately convert your crypto to fiat currency, and you no longer have to worry about the volatility (BTC can go up or down by as much as 10% in a single day, and this is a major issue while accepting payments with crypto).
3830  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What if Ethereum replaces Bitcoin someday? on: February 01, 2020, 05:52:06 AM
I am hearing this ever since 2014, when they conducted the Ethereum ICO. Back then, I decided against participating in the ICO, because I believed that ETH had no chance of offering any competition to BTC. Earlier (in 2013) I had invested in coins such as LTC and NMC. These coins gave me good returns, but in 2014 they went down and the future prospects were not looking great. Anyway, it was a bad decision to not invest in ETH back then. But that said, I expect the market share of Ethereum to go further down in the coming years. There are better platforms out there if someone want to go for smart contracts. And the smart contract sector has not really taken off, as much as some of us would have liked.

A few months back Craig Wright created a pump-and-dump cycle for his shitcoin and ended up with a profit amounting to a few hundred million USD (I am talking about all the drama surrounding the defamation lawsuit against twitter handle Hodlonaut and the patent filing with the U.S. Copyright Office for the ownership of the Bitcoin white paper and the code). I strongly suspect that he is attempting another pump and dump cycle right now, by claiming that he has the private keys to Satoshi's coins.
3832  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: February 01, 2020, 05:11:51 AM
I was following the U19 World Cup for the past few days and things are going to get really exciting now. India and Pakistan will be taking on each other (on 4th February) in the cricketing field after almost 8 months (the last match was during 2019 Cricket World Cup, in which India defeated the Pakistanis by 89 runs). I have a feeling that the winner of this semi-final may become the champions as well. The other semi-final is between New Zealand and Bangladesh and it is going to be very closely contested.
3833  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investing in multiple altcoins on: February 01, 2020, 04:57:06 AM
At one point, I had close to 4 dozen different cryptocurrencies in my wallets. Sometime back in 2018, I decided to convert most of them to either Bitcoin or Ethereum. There were multiple reasons behind taking that decision. First of all, it was difficult to track all these different cryptocurrencies and store them securely. And secondly, many of them had become overpriced, as a result of the 2017 bull run. I reduced the number from 4 dozen to around a dozen and now I am happy that things turned out well. There are too many altcoins out there and we need to restrict our investment to a select few.
3834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Many big powers agains crypto on: February 01, 2020, 04:45:32 AM
I am not surprised. If Bitcoin gets worldwide acceptability, then the role of the middlemen in the financial sector will come to an end. When I mean middlemen, I am talking about the bankers, hedge fund managers, and those who operate money transfer and remittance services. Now Bitcoin is a direct competitor to these people and it pose an existential threat for them. Who will pay 10% for remittance service, if the same can be done with a Bitcoin-based system with just 1% fee? Also, who will keep the money in a bank account, if Bitcoin allows you to create your own wallet and store the money all by yourself?
3835  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: February 01, 2020, 04:34:47 AM
After a long time, I watched a T20 match for the entire duration yesterday. It was an exciting match, and India once again kept their cool to defeat New Zealand. One thing that I noticed immediately was that the New Zealand bowling attack was looking extremely weak. This was perhaps the weakest NZ bowling lineup that I watched for the last two decades. This is the same side that had tearaway pace bowlers such as Shane Bond. Now they are struggling to keep teams like India to a total of less than 200.
3836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Ethereum set new High in this Year on: February 01, 2020, 04:05:04 AM
The ATH level of Ethereum was achieved almost 2 years back and then it was the ICO hype which propelled the currency to such a high valuation. But the ICO bubble burst after a few months and Ethereum came back to the previous levels. And I don't tjink that this cycle is going to repeat again. What happened in 2017 was a once in a blue moon event. Those who invested in Ethereum back then got 120x returns, which would look unbelievable if we compare other mainstream investment options such as stocks and bullion.
3837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin a Safe Haven for Your Money? on: February 01, 2020, 03:40:49 AM
Bitcoin isn't absolutely safe haven for money because of its price volatility. But can anyone know what is 100% save for investment?

Each and every asset out there is volatile. If you want to go for a stable asset, then you need to invest in treasury bonds. Everything else, including gold, real estate, stocks and even antiques are volatile. But the level of volatility vary from one asset to another. Cryptocurrencies are a bit more volatile compared to the others, because the market has not matured yet. On top of that, the daily trade volumes are quite high when compared to the total market capitalizations. For assets such as gold, the daily trade volumes are less than 1% of the total market cap, and this keeps the volatility in check. But with Bitcoin and the other cryptocurrencies, it is not possible.
3838  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: February 01, 2020, 03:26:07 AM
Cricket coming back in Pakistan  Smiley Smiley

Good news for them, and it will help the PCB to balance their budget. But as long as the BCCI refuses to send the Indian team for a bilateral tour, they will continue to face difficulties with finances. The Pakistani players are already in a very disadvantaged position, as they are not allowed to participate in the IPL. BTW, I think that this is the perfect time for an Indian bilateral tour against Pakistan, since the Indians are performing exceptionally well in all the formats. If they don't want to have the matches in Pakistan, then they can play them at a neutral venue (such as the United Arab Emirates or SIngapore).
3839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is BCH, BSV more profitable than Ethereum? on: February 01, 2020, 03:16:11 AM
but for the price of Ethereum it hasn't been able to be good for 2 years, rest assured someday Ethereum can recover
how about other altcoins too? They are also struggling right?

All of the altcoins are affected, but when we ask which is more profitable among the 3, obviously it's BSV for now.
However, if we computed its ATH profit, I think ETH would win in the competition.

I have an information here computing their starting price against their ATH when they first listed in CMC.

BCH - started $540 and ATH was $3400
BSV - Started $53 and ATH was $340
ETH - Started $.64 and ATH was $1300

clearly it was ETH which was the most profitable in overall.

ETH gained traction only in 2017, when the ICO hype started. On the other hand, when BCH got listed for the first time (in August 2017), it was already among the top 5 cryptocurrencies (in terms of market capitalization). So you can't really compare the two. Also, Ethereum is an entirely different digital asset, while BCH/BSV are forked coins and they are 99% similar to Bitcoin. There is a lot of compatibility between BTC and BCH/BSV (i.e BCH/BSV can be used for purposes where BTC is used right now), but the same is not true for Ether.
3840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee called BITCOIN as a Shitcoin! on: February 01, 2020, 03:03:25 AM
Guy can't even spell DAP right.

If we're still following him and still listening to him and still wondering if there's any worth in it other than for pure entertainment (and even that's starting to lose its shine honestly) then we're probably fully deserving if we get scammed by him.

But sure, go ahead and hug the altcoins. It's "the future".

A lot of people trusted him during the 2017-18 period, and invested in the ICOs that were promoted by him. Not a single one of those ICOs gave positive returns and many of them turned out to be outright scams. He never apologized to anyone for promoting those scams. When the ICO market died down, he shifted his attention elsewhere. For some time, he was trying to get the Libertarian nomination for the POTUS 2020 elections. But now it looks as if he has cancelled his plans for doing the same.
