3821  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: New BIP by Luke Dashjr: Softfork proposal for minimum price of $50k USD/BTC on: April 01, 2019, 04:49:15 PM
https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-dev/2019-April/016811.html

Sounds like a great soft fork. I hope it gets accepted Smiley

Quote from: Luke Dashjr
==Motivation==

Certain parts of the community have been selling bitcoins for unreasonably low
prices. This has halted Bitcoin's valuation at $20k and even driven the price
down below $15k! However, clearly Bitcoin is worth much more than that, and
there is widespread support for higher prices.

bip-usdprice defines a new field to indicate the price of transactions. Using
this, we can softfork to require a minimum transaction price.

==Specification==

Beginning with block height 622370 (expected approximately 2020 April 1), a
block is reject as invalid unless all transactions it contains both declare a
USD/BTC price (as defined in bip-usdprice) and specify a price that is at a
minimum $50k USD/BTC.

==Backwards compatibility==

As a soft fork, older nodes will continue to accept the blockchain without
modification. Non-upgraded nodes, however, will not validate the minimum
price requirement, and may accept invalid blocks if miners choose to make
them. Since transactions not declaring a price are at this time still
common-place, the softfork activation has been set a full year into the
future to ensure time to upgrade both nodes and wallet software.

https://github.com/luke-jr/bitcoin/compare/usd_price_tx_field...softfork_50k

This is another great Luke-jr contribution! Where are my 300k blocks?
3822  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat evacuator through window for 12 asics on: April 01, 2019, 03:13:02 PM
Then make no sense to me to build a box from wood Smiley why build two boxes? why not build only one from "metal/rock/masonry", if sound is the issue for you, you can use "any noise insulating and fire retardant fabric tiles" on ""metal/rock/masonry"" boxes Wink
Also dont forget if there is any fire happening inside the box, all those cooling fans going to spread the fire within a second. All those asic cooling fans actually going to feed, pull, push the flames to the exterior wall of that wood box.
For me safety first, and as of my personal experience with all those asics i had in the past 4 years, i would not suggest to place, install any asic hardware into any wood box, even if i only have 1-2% chance for those asics ever catch fire.
But thats maybe only me Smiley

Well a box inside a box is just adding layers for sound insulation (and heat, in case it melts Smiley) But sure, you could make it just using the other materials, inside you would still need those sound insulating fabrics because the other materials are not good insulating noise.

Ideally you would use nothing and in a warehouse no one would care about the noise. But this is what you get when your miners can't be silent at home anymore...
3823  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Which one is better at the moment? Cloud mining investment or hardware purchase? on: April 01, 2019, 03:06:23 PM
My fellow brother was looking to mine BTC through AWS and as well tried his hands on mining BTC with his laptop. He made me laugh a lot when he told me that he got only a few Satoshis while mining through his PC and that's when I told him that he cannot earn anything through such hardware and needs to buy something extremely expensive to mine.

I've heard that Bitmain guys have announced about their upcoming mining beasts loaded with 7 nm chips. What do you think will they cost? I've come to know that they might be delivering around 48-50 TH/s at nearly 1500 Watts which looks quite impressive. Don't ask me about the electricity costs, it's free at his place.

On the other ✋, I'm aware of few of those cloud mining and some rig rental websites like https://www.nicehash.com
I checked there and it pretty much gives almost the same gains as invested per day + very less amounts in profit.

So, during these times when Bitmain is going to launch something which may actually boost difficulty to an all new higher level, should I suggest him to take risk of getting a rig online on rent, or should I ask him to wait for Bitmain to release those miners and ask him to purchase them and mine? Can anyone predict the possible outcome when mining through their upcoming hardware and when will he ROI?

I don't agree, cloudmining is a pure waste of money, you will never ROI, never. If you can't buy an Asic miner (which could go as low as $50 for an used 11T M3), then easiest is to just buy bitcoin and hold.

Yes they are loud, and you are not supposed to have them at home, but still some people do, put them in noise insulating boxes etc.

You can't mine bitcoin with computers (cpus), smartphones or gpus, you'd get a few satoshis at best per month like your brother did, so don't bother.

You should try buying a single Asic miner and get experience from it. It is like buying an AC unit, it has higher electricity demands, 220v, etc. An used one with a failing board or two may even be cheaper and easier to make quiet, such as an S9 with two boards instead of three.
3824  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A "Rich"country totally destroyed by a Dictator on: April 01, 2019, 02:39:49 PM
I thought that the socialism under Chavez used the receipts from oil sales to reduce homelessness, and to improve the lot of the Venezuelan people, and that it was the big oil companies who didn't like this "misuse" of oil revenues.

This is the United Nations listing of the top opium producing countries.
1   Afghanistan   225,000 hectares
2   Myanmar   58,000 hectares
3   Mexico   15,000 hectares
4   India   12,250 hectares
5   Laos   6,200 hectares
6   Pakistan   2,300 hectares
7   Colombia   298 hectares
8   Iran   100 hectares

Venezuela isn't in that list.

Venezuela has traditionally been the "road" for drugs, not the main source. Doesn't mean they (gov) are not involved, just that it might not be the main source of illicit income. Thanks to "socialism", fixing the price of everything, especially gasoline even before Chávez (yes, socialism has plagued Venezuela for half a century) there are even more profitable ways.

Everything socialism gives away for "free", gets smuggled out and sold at international prices. You can turn 100 USD into 40.000 USD by trafficking a single gasoline tanker truck. This has been done with ships at sea as well. The military are involved, way deeply involved. You can add drugs as well, since the presidential nephews were caught in Haiti trying to smuggle a large load of cocaine into the US, using a PDVSA plane...

Also you need to get a list for Cocaine and Cannabis, Opium is probably less used in this climate.

If you use "the road", you get to pass several police and military "checkpoints" (and customs). That is a lot of bribe money, to traffic gasoline, drugs, food, medicine; everything that has artificially low prices, even banknotes. Socialism is a corruption machine, people would dedicate their lives to do long lines (or join to the ruling political organization) to get these super cheap nearly free products to resell them ("illegally") to the smugglers who in turn take it out of the country.

But those are the lower tier. If you check what the mid tier officials, or high tier (Generals, Ministers, and their families) are involved in, its disgusting.

The whole thing needs to go, nothing is salvageable from this system. I'd rather we become a colony from a foreign power than keep living like this.

3825  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How do you guys feel about the Boeing 737 MAX? on: April 01, 2019, 02:21:47 PM
it completely comes down to pilot training and the manual does not instruct certain emergency maneuvers and that caused the crash from the reports i have seen.

In today's world , plane software is fully capable of flying the plane itself except for takeoff and landing that is still the pilot responsibility.
There is so much the software do that if software fails then pilot are really clueless and they have to take all decision in few minutes and for the situation that never occurred  on their training.

If you watch some Mayday air crash investigation then you see sometime how confusing and fast the situation arises.

Unfortunately these automated systems depend a lot on the sensors, and there have been accidents because the sensors have been impaired. The human pilots also get their readings from them, and sometimes acted wrong thinking the sensors were right when visibility was poor (ie. night storm).

They are supposed to be redundant, placed in different places and use different methods but extreme situations have occurred, and not every pilot happens to be a former military pilot able to fix the (untrained for) situation (tho that has occurred too). It used to be more Airbus but clearly Boeing is now in the same game with automated flying.

The investigation could prove that even with proper training, the plane was not acting correctly under all conditions, especially if the sensor issue is confirmed. I think not too far in the future the planes will fly themselves, but these things need to be ironed out first, and it might take decades. Not sure AI would help, time and experimentation should tell.

I just looked at this M10S product page,
and I had a good look at the psu power receptable.

Please forget what I said in the earlier post.

It is actually a very wise choice if they use a IEC C20 receptable (which takes in a IEC C19 power cord),
just like they used with the M10S model.

C19 - C20 couple has a maximum current rating of 16 Amps (IEC standard, international).

Where as C13 - C14 is only 10 Amps.

For reference,

3827  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Inverting fans in S15, will it burn? on: April 01, 2019, 01:11:22 PM
If that is the problem why you don't just use an exhaust fan for the whole room instead? Then you can mechanically suck that hot air into the garage. Put it at a high place in the wall.

Note that if you place them horizontally like that, you are heating the upper board more. Don't do that, the boards should remain vertical.
3828  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A "Rich"country totally destroyed by a Dictator on: April 01, 2019, 12:26:10 PM
I assume the the dictator you refer to is Trump, but in reality it seems that his policy towards Venezuela is forced on him by a congress controlled by the Koch Brothers. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_activities_of_the_Koch_brothers.

Venezuela needs to be allowed to determine its own political future without the predations of the supra-national oil companies.

And here i am having deal with blackouts that last hours or days and two weeks without water, having to read Jet Cash absolute nonsense comment.

The country is held hostage by a gang of criminals. Do you want to see Maduro's "protectors" in action Jet Cash? Look, "socialism":

Momento en que colectivos disparan contra manifestantes en Caracas

Remember when i mentioned in another thread that carrying weapons is forbidden and only criminals (or "authorities") can carry them? Well these so called "colectivos", backed by Maduro, go to the streets and shoot people every time there are protests. Yesterday there were lots of protests due to electricity and water failures.

Here, watch these videos from yesterday. Tell me its the Koch brothers, who the hell cares...

These guys are self proclaimed "urban guerrillas", but they are just armed thugs backed by Maduro to do the dirty job, mostly at night, especially during blackouts... Often people throw them bottles and things from an apartment, then they get inside that building and destroy everything and hurt anyone they see inside. There were several incidents like these in 2017 during anti Maduro protests. Of course they love shooting to the buildings, who cares whats inside, and no one stops them. Maduro literally called them yesterday to "pacify the streets"...

But some people here don't seem to get it. The civilian population is unarmed, Why do you think nearly 200 civilians got killed during protests in 2017? Wooden shields and rocks vs shotguns, pistols, and sometimes rifles, yes in the middle of a city. Do you know how long those bullets can go, and how many objects can penetrate before stopping? There is a reason why police is not supposed to carry rifles in an urban environment... (not that it applies to Venezuela's AK103/AK104 armed forces).

Do you live like this under Trump? Give me a break, he will go after 8 years at most. Maduro is already going for 12 years and plans to stay until he dies, just like his predecessor... The people can't take this "socialism" garbage anymore...

A picture taken yesterday at the presidential palace:

Maduro doesn't really live there, but is often there because its considered the "seat of power", very symbolic, considered "untouchable" since 2002 no protests have been allowed near a giant radius around it, well yesterday this was broken by the people living next to it...

Maduro sleeps inside a presidential villa inside a military base known as "Fuerte Tiuna", he and various cabinet ministers live inside that compound complex far from any pesky protesters...
3829  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "There is mysterious ‘undocumented technology’ hidden on Intel computer chips" on: April 01, 2019, 11:54:11 AM
Unfortunately this is a side effect of having less competition. Perhaps the time is ripe to into ARM cpus, this is easy for Linux users but Windows users need to wait for their favorite apps to be ported. Of course if you are privacy concerned you wouldn't be running Windows in the first place, especially 10 which is a giant data-mining platform...

There IS an open source hardware cpu, but adoption seems crawling slow at best. That would be the ultimate best choice.

AMD seems to have another kind of backdoor as well, so don't think you'll be any better with them. But then there is also the Meltdown & Spectre vulnerabilities...

While they don't truly turn it off, at least the aforementioned mitigations should reduce a little the risks, provided there are no nasty secondary effects... Unfortunately this is not an easy thing and you might brick your motherboard in the process...
3830  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How do you guys feel about the Boeing 737 MAX? on: April 01, 2019, 05:07:02 AM
As far as i know the MAX was grounded by Boeing themselves. There appears to be a problem with the MCAS "feature", which is only present on this variant. Until they find out and fix this problem, this plane variant (not the rest of the 737s) should remain grounded until they figure out how to fix the problems.

Boeing has already lost important contracts by this mishap, China in particular wants nothing with it anymore and signed with Airbus already.

So what were they thinking? Its a slight modification to the 737 to use larger engines, which are mounted higher and further forward and push stronger the nose up which tends to stall the plane, so they devised this extra "safety feature" to prevent the pilots from letting the plane nose go up uncontrolled. Unfortunately this seems counter-intuitive to what the pilots are used to, which could make the opposite result. Even with training this plane is difficult to fly it appears, even for seasoned 737 pilots. There also appears to be problem with a sensor which could trigger the auto nose down feature improperly.

3831  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: April 01, 2019, 02:15:43 AM
I hope everyone who gives a darn about Bitcoin avoids doing business with Bitmain in the future. Bitmain has been a long standing bad actor in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. We shouldn't forget this just because they replaced their CEO.  As far as I know they have done nothing to undo the damage they've caused or otherwise make amends.  We can see by their continued open source license violations in their products that they haven't changed.

I will award merit to every post that makes a compelling statement against buying from bitmain.

They tried (and failed) to block access to the S11/S15 (if i recall correctly) via SSH, i think they didn't like someone making a full open source firmware replacement for the S9, that uses actual cgminer instead of bmminer...

I have also been following the products released by MicroBT, and have been rooting for them. Their 16nm part (the M10) was already nearly as efficient as Bitmain's 7nm part. Now they have a 12nm product, the M20, which is looking seriously efficient already. Can you imagine what they can do at 7nm?

Lets not forget about Jihan Wu's attempt to seize Bitcoin, by rejecting Segwit and promoting giant blocks which ended in the creation of two altcoins nobody wanted, but hurt the market (and ironically his company)...

And then there are the pools. It was bad already that they had one large pool, but why 3? or is it 4? Antpool, btc.com, viabtc... when you use those pools you are benefiting Bitmain one way or the other, yet there is way too much people who don't seem to care. Could it be because its the default in their miners?

Does anyone remember the covert asicboost drama? and the rumors of them using it indoors? They always denied it, until overt asicboost became real, somehow their S9 models could do it, but not their previous models. So the rumor was proven correct after months of denial...

Of course there are several reasons not to pick a Bitmain product, more importantly the Asic market is weakened by that behemoth. I understand that a former Bitmain employee went to MicroBT, the Asic designer? Somehow i think both Bitmain and Canaan copied the PSU driving things at 20v with metal rails directly attached to the boards from MicroBT, but that's just my speculation...

For me, MicroBT should be the preferred choice, but keep an eye to Canaan Creative, which needs to lower prices to be more attractive.

Many people are now angry with Bitmain for the sudden release of slightly improved versions, and then removing the "old" ones from their shop, making their investment sound pointless. Ie: the S11, the S15, now the S17. Is there a slightly improved S19 lurking around the corner? Will you commit 2k or more USD just to find out you bought an already obsolete model? Well we should be nearing the peak efficiency for 7nm parts, but i think MicroBT will win once they release something at 7nm.

Bitmain also has a strange business with those coupons. Not happy with making an alt (or two), they also instigated a parallel market of coupons. Why are they issuing those coupons in such quantities, that people are now more interested in trading than using?

I also remember their ability to disable miners remotely, there was a little scandal about this "feature", which was later "removed" (upgraded?).

Another one is the fact that the miners are set to mine to a Bitmain Antpool account by default, so any "tests" give extra profit for them. Wasn't there a class suit action going on because of it? Of course if you reset the settings, this returns.

In the end its just like the pools. If you keep using (their) large pools, you are weakening the whole thing. So by buying their products you also weaken their competitors. If competition disappears, and they consolidate a monopoly, we are going to be in trouble. They would ask outrageous prices, and give very poor customer satisfaction, because once you are the last one standing you can dictate your terms to others.

Oh almost forgot, why the heck does Bitmain owns not one, but TWO cloud mining services? I don't think i need to talk here about cloud mining, they are pure money waste, if not outright scam. Stay away from them...
3832  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Inverting fans in S15, will it burn? on: April 01, 2019, 01:34:32 AM
Hmm sucking air vs pushing air, which one would keep the boards more cool with the least amount of noise? This is an interesting experiment i'd like to know the results, for science of course Smiley

You know in the other side without fans, there is a grill you can take off?

I believe the S11, S15/T15 and S17 will all share the same physical size, someone will build things for them.

No it is also prohibited to import those devices.. so yes the suffer is real the L3+ cost like 300$
How they get those things to Egypt? Illegal shit

Something similar happened here, and people found their ways... But of course there are also resellers with outrageous prices like yours.
But you may try finding someone who already owns one and is upgrading to something better, even if not all three boards are good, you might get it for a very good price, then install Braiins OS to maximize its efficiency.

Oh since he owns 3~4 AC i'm sure disconnecting one or two would give room to a couple of miners.
3835  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: March 31, 2019, 10:13:11 PM
Then try disconnecting all three boards, and connect only one, power on and check. Swap power and data cables, try to see if that makes a difference.

You cannot check every chip individually (its way too advanced) but each board is doable.
3836  Economy / Economics / Re: Reason of Next Financial Crisis on: March 30, 2019, 08:37:21 PM
When you have a non stopable money printing machine like the federal reserve system all those money eventually create some type of bubble(stock, real estate, currency or even crypto). When the bubble bursts(this will happen sooner or later),we have a new crisis.
All financial crisis have one reason. It's called "US Federal Reserve System".
This, bubbles are inevitable and even in a system where the amount of money is limited we will see bubbles form from time to time but when you have basically the ability to print as much money as you want and you are abusing that power then bubbles will have a tendency to form even faster and to be even bigger as everyone is trying to find some way to avoid the effects of the ever increasing money supply and the damaging effects it has on your wealth.

Fractional reserve banking, and the belief the economy grows on credit instead of savings, the cycles of bubble and pops won't stop until people understand these concepts. Read Mises to find the answer. Austrian economics.

Cry Why so many people say "Muslims are terrorists"  Should we say that? Cry Cry
I think there is always a scapegoat in the community.
Who is the most violent perpetrator of the massacre? Who?
I Think "" Hitler "!!! He persecuted 6 million Jews. With that we blame the Christians for that ?, Hitler, He's Christian ,so because he persecutes the Jews, it does not mean all Christians are like that.
Then , How about Muslims? are they all terrorists? Are there organizations that want to create a " Muslims Phobia" ?
It is inappropriate for us fellow humans to hate and kill each other.
what do you think?

No its stupid and ignorant to say that. There have been terrorists from all beliefs, and non believers as well. A lot of atrocities have been committed in human history under any pretense. The "Zionists" committed terrorist attacks when Palestine was still under British control, etc. Violence should be condemned, not religious freedom.

I don't think Hitler was christian or cared (some say he was Jew), but he replaced the Pope for some reason when controlling Europe.
3839  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian air force planes land in Venezuela carrying troops on: March 30, 2019, 07:52:37 PM
there is no difference for the workers weather maduro or guadio or who he is correctly spells prints the money, both is capitalism with these two figures at the top. constantly questioning the capitalists only damages the development of structures in venezuela.

there is also a tyrany of us capitalism, its the tyrany of being poor and having no money.

Of course there is! In one system you have fed workers, even Marx etc mention the capitalists will give them the bare minimum for them to keep working the next day and keep "exploiting" them. But not here, they are quitting the state owned companies TO eat (do something else, often technically "illegal" or outright illegal).

What Maduro is doing is not even State capitalism, no one knows what it is but whatever it is, doesn't work. He keeps using the socialist rhetoric though. He DID had a Leninist mentor, and certainly Lenin at some point talked about destroying the currency to defeat capitalism, which is why some people think he does it on purpose. Unfortunately the victims are not the "capitalists", those wealthy enough simply move their business elsewhere, only the poor cannot go anywhere.

It is not the same when you have "underpaid" workers that can eat, vs underpaid workers that can't. A ruined economy doesn't benefit anyone, but that's precisely what he and his close people do. Some claim they act like a criminal gang, since they are the ones getting the most benefits while the population is suffering by their mega exploitation known as hyperinflation.
