3841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question About Golden Visa - Invest with BTC on: March 30, 2019, 05:44:09 PM
blackrabbit1, it is true that some countries offer citizenship, residency or immigration by investment, but I do not see any country except Antigua and Barbuda, and Vanuatu to accept BTC as a means of payment for that service.

Antigua and Barbuda offers citizenship for 200k USD no return, or 400k USD investment later to be returned to you. They will of course check your background and wealth origin. They do accept bitcoin directly. The money they collect is for their rebuilding efforts, mostly housing projects. If i had that money i would do it right now, but alas...
3842  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian air force planes land in Venezuela carrying troops on: March 30, 2019, 04:33:06 PM
Aside from the missiles there are a few more weapon platforms bought in the time of Chávez, such as the 35 or so Sukhois Su-30. From time to time a pair of bombers come and leave, and once a fleet of ships, reportedly with nuclear warheads came for a parade then left some years ago.

They might have some interests but their commitment seems lacking at most. It is clear that China would secretly want someone else, and probably Russia as well. Maduro destroyed the country to a point where its even hurting THEIR interests.

who cares,

in 30 years there might be no russian central bank anymore, and those weapons would move into the hands of local authoriies like its going to happen with brexit UK oversea territories.

Said by someone who doesn't have to live days in total darkness and weeks without water.

Does it matter who "prints" money? Yes, A LOT. Under tyranny there is little you can do. Want to use bitcoin? oh there is no electricity, or no internet... Everyday i understand a little more how the people survive in north korea...

From your freedom you can choose which fiat or crypto to use, not here. The difference is abysmal.

Its not the same "printing money" when you have the privilege of not using it, than "printing money" when you are coerced to NOT use anything else. But you have yet to live under "socialism" to truly get it. Within the realm of imagination and theory, everything looks beautiful, now try it in practice...
3843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How private is a Bitcoin account ? on: March 30, 2019, 03:57:38 PM
Since the beginning of 2019 I've been getting regular emails from some idiot who makes all kinds of threats if I don't deposit $1,000 into his Bitcoin account within 48 hours. I just ignore them but they arrive like clockwork (pretty much every week) so obviously, they're becoming extremely irritating. He's very careful to not expose any info that would help me identify him (e.g. his email address) and the only info he makes known to me is his Bitcoin account number - except that the account number changes with each new email.

So I'm guessing it's possible to set up 'temporary' accounts with Bitcoin which only last for a few days and aren't traceable?? Nevertheless, this person is a blackmailer and I'd like to report him the relevant authorities.

So what's the situation regarding Bitcoin accounts? If I forwarded one of his emails to Bitcoin, would they be able to identify this person from his Bitcoin account number?

Even i have gotten such spam, and its probably not even directed for you, but copy pasted to a long list of purchased email addresses from the dark web. Like any spammer they are aiming for a very low percentage of victims to fall prey of fear. Heck at 1k even a single victim could probably pay back their "investment". You can report it, but its probably from one of those countries "uncooperative" to international authorities...

If your email client has some sort of Bayesian filter it should go straight to the spam folder without bothering you again. Email needs spam filtering.

Bitcoin is no central authority, the whole point is that it is decentralized. You don't have "accounts", you can make a wallet and nobody will ever know until you use it, and even after that proving that it belongs to a specific individual can be difficult if enough precautions are made (such as using an address only once). I doubt the spammer bothered to use distinct addresses on each spam mail you got, did he? nah.
3844  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Demo M20 v1 is on order due May 20th on: March 30, 2019, 03:45:46 PM
Is this the large M10S like unit? 72T or 46T? Can you post size dimensions as I'm now confused with the three M20 models... An independent review is always welcome.
3845  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A10 series announced on: March 30, 2019, 03:41:24 PM
Yea at $1500 the m10 was a fricken better buy for half that LOL.  The hell are they thinking??

Canaan should revise their price structure to remain competitive, they have been pricier even back with 7xx models. One would think skipping controllers on each unit would net them some price advantage but no. Its nice to have costumer satisfaction and quality parts, but the market inevitable goes towards the lowest price per hash.

And i wanted to see those mining TVs and wifi routers too...
3846  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: March 30, 2019, 03:31:41 PM
Okay thank you, why drop it to 550 may I ask? I was thinking maybe I've fried a chip or a capacitor.
Although I thought the s9 could handle up to around 1125 Mhz, correct me if I'm wrong

Efficiency. You want to max the amount of hashing for the less energy consumption. After certain zone you start spending more energy per hash which makes it pointless. Besides the PSU would have to big much bigger (Ie. 2200w).

In most circumstances you earn more money by downclocking the chips to 500ish mhz rather than going the opposite direction.

And is far better to have two "cool and quiet" S9s producing 20THs and consuming 1600w than a single S9 producing 20th but consuming 2000+w, not to mention the stress to the chips and the high temperatures and maxed fans (who also consume power).

Remarkably an S9 that by default used to consume 100W/T can now consume 80W/T downclocking it like that.
3847  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how much do you pay for electricity? on: March 30, 2019, 03:02:22 PM
Yes but they are ripping you off. Look at this pangolinminer shop screenshot:

$155 each S9... The M3 is a bit higher, now $75 (10) but was $50 in quantities of 5 a few weeks ago... I'm sure you can get even better prices if you dig more. S9s and M3s are ancient now and they are nearly sold for scraps.
3848  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Brain Wallet ? on: March 30, 2019, 01:43:54 PM
The password is only meant to prevent unauthorized use from a hot wallet, or a wallet stored in a plugged device. Its actually better to lose that password as you can always recover your wallet with the seed words anyway. The seed words are far more important than the password, but you should always use a good password to prevent hot wallets from being misused, just remember its OK to lose that password as long as you keep your seed words safe. The mobile version uses a PIN instead but i'm unsure of the safety of that, i guess its just to prevent opportunity thieves from physically manipulating your own phone rather than preventing outsiders from the net from obtaining your wallet. But then you should not keep large sums in a mobile wallet anyway...
3849  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [ASK] question About Bitcoin on: March 30, 2019, 01:23:46 PM
Well from my experiments running a full node, i noticed tremendous disk i/o activity during syncing, and significant even when up to date, for that very reason i wouldn't recommend it on non spinning magnetic media (ie. flash based storage) as it would quickly reduce its lifetime. Yes, specially for you raspi users, but a smartphone counts as well. Yes i know better flash devices last longer, do you really think your device has one of those latest generation quality flash storage? Even picking the good ones is difficult in m.2 or ssd factor, who even knows what your phone manufacturer used. And, regardless, it is a fact that each write reduces the lifetime of a flash storage device, you want to minimize to writes or use another type of media.

Better CPU and more RAM i guess is simply a matter of speed. With my slow 2ish mbps link that didn't made much difference anyway.
3850  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Just had account hacked. Please help :S. on: March 30, 2019, 01:06:28 PM
Did not have 2FA, Fucked up Sad. Attacker gained access to email and reset my exchange password. Pretty sure that makes me screwed.
The question is, how did they got access to your email? Weak password? weak recovery words? Was your OS compromised with some malware that siphoned out your password to attackers?

I know someone who lost 6 figures with an even worse mistake, and there have been posts in this forum of people losing 7 figures, so yeah it could have been worse. At least you were smart enough to keep cold wallets unlike the aforementioned examples...
3851  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 95% fake volume :) on: March 30, 2019, 12:26:31 PM
Sooner or later Coinmarketcap will be replace by a more transparent and unbiased and 100% more dependable Coin Listing Platform.

Until they de-list or exclude all those exchange that practice wash trading to inflate their volume we cannot see the real picture of the overall health of the cryptocurrency market.
The coinmarketcap nemesis

clear as

Er... you need tokens to nominate a "trustworthy" exchange and more tokens to challenge them?

I don't think this is going to end good...
3852  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Venezuela on: March 30, 2019, 11:32:11 AM
Of course, they don't care about parliamentary immunity, heck they don't care about the legislative branch at all, they are like: "we do what we want because no one can stop us". Yes, they have done this to almost the entire opposition for the past 5 years, there is no rule of law here, only the rule of "presidential decree".

In other news, yesterday we had the third nationwide blackout in a month... Remember this is a cashless country, thanks to gov induced hyperinflation. No electricity, no purchasing. Oh and most of the water needs electric pumps. Every time electricity goes, it takes about a week for the water to return after power is restored...

The excuses for the blackouts are laughable at best. First one was "cyberattack" (on an analogical system from the 60ies) then they claimed electromagnetic attack (because Maduro can't get it right), the second one was attributed to a fire by saboteurs, and after being laughed and the stupidity of the comments, because all those places are guarded by the military, they came with "sniper attack". Yeah right, a sniper would waste bullets to remote electric installations instead of going after them like real snipers actually do... The third one was yesterday, lets see what excuse they come up with... And yes, the electrical engineers and even workers anonymously leak the real reasons, thats how we get to know the truth, mostly thru internet social media.

Truth is, lack of maintenance to a system that has been neglected for almost two decades. The only reason it lasted this long is thanks to the diligent and excellent work done by those prior to them, but even the best systems have a lifetime and when not replaced promptly, things start falling apart. This is what is happening to the electricity, and its what has been happening to all state controlled companies, which in a "socialist" state, means pretty much all. They have gone to a severe state of disrepair, and things just break and don't get repaired, except the bare minimum and for the areas they consider the most important. The city of Caracas is blessed in that regard, while Maracaibo had weeks without electricity, which prompted looting (remember cashless society, days pass but no one can buy things anymore?)

Here i found a better source of Venezuelan news in english:

PS: Posting asap then editing for beautification in case the next power outage hits, they come without warning, Maduro already announced rationing but no one knows when and where or for how long...
3853  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer ducting on: March 30, 2019, 11:26:45 AM
Oh, you were thinking something like this?

Also consider more holes per miner, such as two for each one. In your box it would be 4 holes per side for the two miners instead of forcing it with a Y.

Perhaps a key factor is reducing the curve radius, avoid 90°, try a gentler radius like in that picture, like it was a railroad curve Smiley
3854  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 95% fake volume :) on: March 29, 2019, 10:44:42 PM

No, if anything it would be "the real image" of some crypto exchanges...

Note that the article is actually commenting on this report. Take a look by yourselves:

3855  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Heat evacuator through window for 12 asics on: March 29, 2019, 10:14:09 PM
nice woodwork , but for me its a total fire hazard, and never ever would put my asics into something like this if its made from wood.
(actually let me correct myself, i might ,if the mining cave is located somewhere in my backyard far away from the house im living in )
I started using asics 4 years ago, started with a few, then my asics mining room started to pull more and more amps ...
Back in time, Some of my s7 board power connection got melted after hardware failure, same thing happened with one of my s9.
if i remeber right i had some issue with some of my bitmain psus also... never had any issues with the wiring itself

You are right but, wood is a nice sound insulator... Perhaps those philipma1957 noise insulating and fire retardant fabric tiles would help? Or, put the wood box inside a metal/rock/masonry box or such...
3856  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how much do you pay for electricity? on: March 29, 2019, 09:53:12 PM
... Okay so guys I think I will start with 2 L3+ or something I have a budget for them but I dont have enough cash to buy 1000$+ Miner so I think the best case is L3+.

You should avoid those and stick to Bitcoin miners, get old S9, or M3s which are being sold dirt chip (50USD). The L3+ is a dead end and is already obsolete (also i have a report of it being too sensitive to hot temps, by having 4 Asic boards airflow isn't that great).

Since new ones are coming the S11 and S15 should have lowered price, and the M10 which is an excellent miner.
Also check your ambient humidity, under 20% is dangerous.
3857  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: March 29, 2019, 09:48:32 PM
I can flash the t9 controller to braiins if I flash it to s9 dec5 firmware first.
Trying to flash a controller with t9 firmware installed will stop you.
If I flash a s9 controller (non c5) to braiins my 550 and 600 s9 hashboards will run better/faster with brains.
Gives new life to old s9 batch hashboards if you have  spare t9 controllers to flash or s9 non c5 boards

I have all my non c5 controllers running braiins now. Very stable.

Took a t9 with 3 57 chips boards.
Flashed controller to s9 dec5. Then flashed to braiins. Boots up and runs.
No temps show but is appears to be running well. Fans run at full speed.

This is a good discovery, are you using the --no-sensor-scan option?
IIRC there are at least three types of T9: T9, T9+ and T9++ each with different controllers. Which one is yours? First type?
3858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp Are Down - But Bitcoin is as strong as ever !!! on: March 29, 2019, 09:38:55 PM
Facebook, instagram or any other social media platform being down has nothing to do with bitcoin and it's prices.
Besides social mediums are not coins in the cryptocurrency world

From what I heard they were testing some new algos that are supposed to implement acta rules. They are trying to block free speech, content sharing, and the spread of information. Acta is internet censorship and it will lead to most youtube content creators disappearing for good. Only decentralized platforms will survive.

Well people should have fled to p2p alternatives, such as Diaspora. I dislike Facebook and the like. Not only you should go p2p, but secure and obfuscated p2p, such as Diaspora thru Tor or something similar.

Living in a country that blocks thousands of sites for having opposition views, i have come to realize the importance it is to strengthen these initiatives. Do not ignore them because in your freedom you don't seem to need them. This is like people ignoring Bitcoin because their fiat is so great (ie. USD o EUR). But by the time a fiat goes the inflationary spiral it is too late to react, you won't see it coming, trust me, a million yearly inflation last year but it might reach 10 million or more this year, should "socialists" remain in power that is.

For better IM you have several choices, I haven't tried that elixxir but have used riot.im. One thing i dislike from Signal is that it is too much a clone of Whatsapp, and i consider whatsapp design abominable. If anything, i'd rater have a Telegram open source p2p clone.

But yeah, the giant problem is always convincing the others to stop using those garbage centralized and proprietary social media apps...

More people shoot each other in an hour some days in Chicago. Good thing guns are banned right? Who knows how much worse it would be?

Or in Caracas, where guns are banned too, and only criminals have them...
3860  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian air force planes land in Venezuela carrying troops on: March 29, 2019, 05:16:37 PM
The "official" account is that these 99 Russians came to do maintenance and fix weapon systems previously bought from them, such as the S-300VM
