Interesting, thanks for sharing this! I think you are entering this at the right time.
3862  Economy / Speculation / Re: Don't rely on Venture capital money - these guys don't know what they're doing on: January 21, 2015, 05:02:54 PM

No such 'point of no return' estimate from me, I'm sure.

In my opinion, there is no clear cut point from which it "will never recover".

$2 in 2011 was almost certainly well below any such limit if you would have asked, and here we are: up by a factor 100 from then within about 3 years.

$2! That was post rally. lol

I remember when we hit parity with the dollar. It seemed so huge, especially after growing from $0.06.

Hm? That was my point, no? From $32 back to $2 made almost everyone on the outside, and even plenty of the "early adopters" declare Bitcoin dead and hopeless.

$1100 to $200 is not even close to that decline, but here we go again with the "WorldCom" comparisons...  Roll Eyes
Oh yes, I was agreeing with you. I'm taking advantage of these prices and if history is any indicator I will soon enough be called an unfair early adopter again.
3863  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs Regulation to save itself from Forex traders! on: January 21, 2015, 04:58:11 PM
Satoshi never wanted regulations, it defeats the purpose of Bitcoin within itself. Satoshi was a libertarian and wanted free market, its the point of Bitcoin, regulating it makes it just fiat 2.0.

The thing is, it is already regulated. We want some regulation or it would be to risky to use. My hope is that the Cap-Gains tax is all we get. Nothing in the economy goes completely unregulated, what matters is what regulation.

Is crypto as a financial investment doomed?

I hope so. I want to use Bitcoin as a currency.
Amen. It has become a confusing sideshow in the economy.

Maybe you don't believe bitcoin has a future, but Coinbase just got 75 million votes to the contrary.
As far as these guys not knowing what they are doing... I have met some of them and I assure you they have a plan and know exactly what they are doing. They did not become billionaires by stumbling around in the dark or listening to crackpot theories on the internet.
3867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs Regulation to save itself from Forex traders! on: January 21, 2015, 03:40:19 PM
If bitcoin needs our regulation to live, then let it die.

No forex trader can "push me around". You have to allow that and I don't.
3868  Economy / Speculation / Re: NYSE invests in bitcoin ecosystem on: January 20, 2015, 08:40:22 PM
they are investing in a company, not underlying technology.

That's why I changed the title to say they are investing in the bitcoin ecosystem, not investing in bitcoin

And to be fair, there is no way to "invest" in the protocol. Bitcoin does not need money to work and I don't know who you would give money too? The economy is now at the stage of development when businesses will build on the protocol. There is huge money to be made in legal exchanges, payment processing, insurance, bitcoin banking services, etc. That is what all the VC money is for.

I don't know what Coinbase is doing with that money, but there is a race on to be the first BTC ATM network. MSB Licensing money?
3869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is made for all men women and Children world wide on: January 20, 2015, 08:31:25 PM
World wide? I would question this part! Trade any Bitcoins in North Korea lately?

lol, maybe not so much in the DPRK. But I find bitcoins being used wherever I go. And I like out of the way places. It really is a worldwide phenomena.
3870  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Firearms company cuts ties with Liam Neeson over gun-control comment on: January 20, 2015, 08:25:52 PM
I prefer to have strict gun controls than weak gun controls. If you read enough new stories about high school kids shooting other kids, or mentally unstable individuals shooting random people on the side walk, you must believe there is something wrong with gun controls, right?

We all want the same thing. It's sad and horrifying when some angry, stupid guy takes out his hatred on the innocent. It could be a crazy person or even a kid, as you point out. But that has nothing to do with guns or rules. You have never been, and will never be safe from a psychopathic killer.  Even those of us who carry a gun everyday could be shot dead by a mental patient who just walks up and shoots.
However, some of us do stand a chance and insist that we have the right to try defending ourselves. Your question implies that if we just had another rule the crazy people would listen. They will not. Once they are in a murderous state they will be greeted with violence.  It might be me, a local cop, or the state swat team; but whoever it is they will have guns.
3871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are some reasons you think Bitcoin will grow in 2015? on: January 20, 2015, 07:03:12 PM
It grew in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Heck it's growing now.
3872  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A rather negative opinion on future of BTC on: January 20, 2015, 06:50:14 PM
I think that the infrastructure is great, but it needs to be linked to money people are familiar with, otherwise nobody will be interested in it.

If that ever happened I would be gone. One of the single greatest things about bitcoin is that it is independent of any currency. If it were linked to the dollar then the Federal Reserve could control the value of bitcoin. That's not what you want, right? Or maybe it should be linked to the Ruble? Then Putin could chose what you can do with your BTC.
3873  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why can't I use Bitcoin everyday!! on: January 20, 2015, 06:46:06 PM
Why would you even try to use Bitcoin everyday? Card works fine for me, and I don't see why would I take the trouble of paying by Bitcoin when there is no advantage.

I use it at least weekly. Mostly online, but increasingly I find places IRL. The reason I do it is because I care about my private information. Using a card requires giving all the information needed to steal from me to a stranger. Those days are over for me. I also use it for travel. Its' awesome to have money that works all over the world. I also like to OWN my wealth, not store it someone's fed coupons.

But the bitcoin may be stolen from you too. So, the different entry fiat money and bitcoin in that case not so much, us we would like it be.

Certainly true. I have to do my own security because my bitcoins are mine alone. I have little fear of theft however, to get any sizable amount would require breaking into my safe deposit box. Then you would still have to find and decrypt the wallet.

P.S. I have never lost a Satoshi to thieves, but I'm on my third replacement bank card in a year.
3874  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New police radars can 'see' inside homes on: January 20, 2015, 06:37:02 PM
This seems kinda cool, I'm not one of those freaks that care about their "privacy".
I believe that those who are innocent and have nothing bad to hide shouldn't care about this.

Until they come for you. What about your bitcoin terrorist money? Nobody cares about privacy until they lose theirs. Then they are shocked at how no one seems to care about their outrage.

My question about this device is, "can I get one?" Maybe I should see what's going on at the police station? They are my employees after all.
3875  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Firearms company cuts ties with Liam Neeson over gun-control comment on: January 20, 2015, 06:32:34 PM
So here is a guy who entertains people with gun violence and thinks me shooting paper targets is a disgrace.

Whatever.  Roll Eyes
3876  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt Gox CEO Mark Karpeles Implicated in Silk Road Trial on: January 16, 2015, 08:11:51 PM
To be fair, Mark was not "implicated" he was briefly "suspected" of being DPR. If you look at the evidence collected it is Ross who has some explaining to do.

Yes , now I've seen. A simple question : Do you think he  is the mind behind silkRoad ? Maybe he was in the "team" but not the "creator" ad "manager" of SR (That's for sure).
I really don't know? But to be honest I see no evidence of a connection. There is some very damming evidence against Ross though. I does, however, seem like the volume of sales at SR and the dominance of Gox as an exchange must have brought the two into some kind of contact. Maybe not criminal, but there was a lot of BTC being cashed out by SR. It does stink a little.

Note that many of the big players are people who you and I will never know.

You may want to explain that you will allow escrow for the funds.

Sweet!

Or go for a Tesla, they will build a car for your bitcoin:
http://www.teslamotors.com/

Does Tesla build cars for BTC?

They do. I think they are the only car manufacturer that directly takes them. So far.  Wink
