3901  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: December 03, 2015, 03:47:47 PM
I'm using Coinbase with 2 factor authentication and it has been pretty effective (and secured) so far. Also allows the purchase and selling of Bitcoins from/to currency from/to your bank account directly.

I don't like that it's online.  But I have to admit they have a insurance most do not.  As long as they get hacked and it's their side... chances are losses are covered.

But if you are hacked and your the reason then you still lose it.  So not perfect insurance but it is something.

Agree and that's based on third-party, don't forget to Mt.Gox, Mintpal, which it's worst thing to store your bitcoin on third-party, @darkstarzz69 better to use cold wallet, electrum for example, it's don't need huge space and don't need to have a lot bandwitdh, it's more more more secure than online wallet.
Mt Gox was insolvent and did not provide any insurance. Coinbase is pretty established and provides insurance.

Electrum is not a cold wallet, it is a hot wallet. It does have a feature to let you spend coins from another offline electrum instance but that require another computer.

Even though I agree that this Coinbase online wallet is probably much more secure than any other online wallet before, this insurance still needs to be seen and to be proven in an event of a hack. I am not saying that they wouldn't pay, but I am saying that I still believe much more to myself than to some online wallet third party or an insurance company!

It is thought to be a real insurance, they share info who it's with and information about it.  So it's not like some places that say they have insurance and really dont.

It does not need to be seen... as if it's one that insurance pays were talking about entire website likely compromised.  That will drive btc down.. lots of bad things if it happens.

Estimated Next Difficulty:    80,223,257,805 (+10.31%)
Adjust time:    After 592 Blocks, About 3.8 days
Hashrate(?):    601,812,660 GH/s

and price up ~10$ in the last 2hours!

It went up and don to around 260 right now which still is not bad at all.   We will see I really hope difficulty goes down some but I'm thinking it will be high.

Not sue how high BTC will go up rest of this period I don't see it being massive.
3903  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How do you get free power? on: December 03, 2015, 03:16:10 PM
Some of the users on this forum made posts where they claim to get free power, where do they get this power from?

Suppose, if you have an antminer s7, it can produce 1btc a month.
1btc is around £200.
Hotel accomodation, per night, including electricity and internet: £40
200x6=1200
1200/30=40

So for 6 antminer s7s, you get around £1200 a month.
Convert this into money and you have £40 a night!
Purchase about 10 s7s and you have got yourself £800 a month or more than £20 a night!

Not so bad but needs a high capital!

what a moron brain could ever think that?

And the staff will never wonder why you never let them clean the room or the loud noises other rooms complain about....

It's a idea that will never work.  Hotels are not meant for ton's of electrical usage. You would really surprise me if you could do 6 S7's in 1 hotel room.
3904  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Advice on setting up a personnal farm on: December 03, 2015, 03:13:56 PM
Hello all,

I'm not really new to bitcoin but I'm not a technical expert.
I already had the project of setting up my own little farm, but from what i saw it's pretty hard to reach ROI in "normal" conditions.

But an opportunity arrised from a small building that i can use, close to a river. The building is near a waterfall and i thought about using it to create free power.
I'm an engineer and think i can handle the electricity production part. But i need advices on the farm part ^^

To be short:
-I've got a secured place with enough space for more or less anything
-I've got a free electricity but with a limited power output, i don't know exactly how much but i don't think i'll produce more than 10kW.

What's the best mining devices i should use? Do you have any advice on setting up a little personnal farm?

Thanks in advance,

Regards.

My advice is to make sure how much electricity you have.  It would be important not to overbuy on gear.   i would advice on electricity run 240 to save cables, also it's much nicer to have all that power there if you need it.

Also ventelation you will need to find some way to cool it down.  With winter for a lot it will help a lot.  But be aware cooling down the mining area most likely is needed.

If your saying you need to build this on waterfall.. do some math first as I'm not sure it will be efficient compared to cheap electricity.
3905  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee anonymous solo bitcoin mining 131 blocks solved! on: December 03, 2015, 04:24:52 AM
If you're renting your hash, then somebody hit a block of an alt coin with your miner.

oh I see...my hash was redirected to an alt with lower diff and the miner found a block...

I guess never stop learning...

thx for explanation
*hash use a hack in their "special" *hash cgminer versions called "extranonce subscribe"
It allows them to point your miner at any pool, any sha256 coin at any time and you wont ever know.
I wont put it in master cgminer - but the clone miner supports it in master also.

Thank you for standing up for right thing as always.  I never got to into extragonce as it seemed nicehash was main place pushing for it and they really are not that good anymore on pay vs just mining.

That is very scary though they could point to another pool.  Have there been any documented cases?  Or just theory? Or I guess we might not know it sounds like.
3906  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Selling $15 Itunes card for $10. | Payment: Bitcoin | Escrow: accepted on: December 03, 2015, 04:09:57 AM
Threw what methods are the cards bought?  Do you have proof with like receipts that it was paid for with cash or anything?

I am kinda leary of Itunes as so many turn out to be carded at low price.  Apple sent me a really nasty email with a 50 dollar one I bought once that was a good deal turned out was carded... after that I have always made sure it's not been bought by credit cards as high chance of carding.

Until I clicked on the image link TheButterZone provided, I thought you were looking for a really long straight razor for shaving!    Cheesy

It got me to look to I saw the blade part with 14".  I did not put it together it was the Razer tech company Smiley.

I was thinking holy crap straight shave... and 14" it was enough for me to look.... but no gigantic razor here.
3908  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: December 03, 2015, 03:33:00 AM
when I was a newbie I used to earn via cex.io.

cex.io now is awful they don't deliver anything good anymore, it was decent at the beginning maybe and nothing more

right now you will never roi with them, also they maintanace fee is fucking high, it will eat all your income basically
Most of the legit miners have played this game. They manipulate their maintenance fee in such a way that people can hardly get their investment out. From KNC cloud to CEX.io, which were backed by real miners, the story is the same.

There are a few good ones out there.  I do have a little in cloud, most of mine is hardware just as I love to tinker with them.  But I do a few trusted cloud sites with just a little.

It's only bit me once was with GAW.  I got greedy believing in them, and I lost a little.  But was a good learning expirence they are part of reason I wont invest in a cloud I don't know has hardware. I don't ever care to have anything like a hashlet or whatever in my life again.  I stick with legit cloud mining that is verified in my mind at this point.

Even I am not perfect.
3909  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Quick question on: December 03, 2015, 03:29:52 AM
I am finding it hard to get one in europe though so will have to pay a bit extra to get one over here, unless you know any decent place to get one in europe.
You don't need to have an escrow to be near you. The escrow can just hold the Bitcoin until either you confirm the receipt of the goods and they are as advertised, or one of you disputes. Of course that escrow will probably need information and proof like pictures, video, and tracking numbers. If they only hold the Bitcoin, then they do not need to be anywhere near you.

No i meant i am finding it hard to get an Antminer in europe not an escrow. Thanks for the help guys, he probaly knows this place anyway if he doing a lot of mining himself.

you can find antminer anywhere in the world as long as both parties are willing to cover up the shipping fees. anyway escrow could be from anywhere too but be sure they are trusted enough to hold such amount

Escrow is not really a bad thing as long as its through a very trusted member.   That is the key make sure it's someone who's done it a long time.

But Europe with the crazy VAT/import taxes I could see why even older miners still need escrow.  Seems that tax sucks to pay but it does keep your miners up a tad in value compared to places with no vat.

I can see either side on this.  My biggest thing is I don't like ignore as I miss things (yes sometimes they are 100 percent stupid) but I feel I don't have whole story if I ignore.  But sometimes it works great.

My biggest thing was the huge font and bold.  It was just to stick out, and mods had to fix it.  As long as he does not do that again... then he can have opinions whether I agree with them or not.  Although I will not cry if one day the mod's get tired of him.  But that is far above my pay level.

I voted red but would be cool with black too!

I went with Blue but any of the color's mentioned would look very nice.  Here is like every stick miner ever from realsteve if you want to see some miners with different colors if it helps anyone - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=464496.0
3913  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BM1384 Pod Miner plus trade-in/recycling - an interest and feasibility poll on: December 03, 2015, 03:07:56 AM

I talked to some one who may have been ripped off by this seller on ebay, the guy who told me that is buying my last s5, once i get a 18 pin cable and test the replacement board and other board to gather.  he told me he paid about that and is fighting with PayPal to get it back . just a tip.

I see the auction as kinda funny "EASY REPAIR!!! DAMAGED, DEFECTIVE ONLY ONE OF THE HASH BOARDS ARE WORKING REPAIRABLE".... if it's so easy why did seller not fix and sell as working S5? Am I the only one seeing that.

Sounds like scammy or at least bad sellsman to say it's very easy to fix! I just cant do it... you can though!  Also talking about bitmain warranty when I doubt any S5 is within warranty... no one should buy from there.
3914  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks CLOSED! on: December 03, 2015, 03:04:12 AM
BTC is pushing up a little at 261... so maybe tonight we will see even higher that would be nice.

I think you meant 361?  I know it was down around 250 for so long that you probably just got used to typing 2.  If you want to sell me any coins at 261 please send a pm.  Grin

I think we're going to see 10% increases all winter, there's a lot of gear coming online, price is strong, and people are getting excited about bitcoin.

Thanks for spotting it!  Yes 361 and right now 364 on coinbase... so a little upwards motion but not a ton.   But I guess steady is not a bad thing.

I'm just hoping the next period we get a little break on these big difficulty changes.
3915  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do Newbies (or Anyone) Enjoy Paid Bitcoin Tasks? on: December 02, 2015, 10:28:51 PM
yes i enjoy paid bitcoin tasks, i am new to this site before this site i am regularly visiting all faucets sites and nearly above 33 faucets i use to visit in my daily 12 hrs online time and earn bitcoins .

And what did you make with the 12 hours of faucets?  Is it over a cent a hour?   15 cents?

I just cant imagine spending that much time on faucets.  So much time so little pay out.  But I would love to hear what you got with 12 hours of it.
3916  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: December 02, 2015, 10:25:39 PM
i use Bitcoin Wallet for mobile phone (http://wallet.schildbach.de/), Xapo online wallet and paper wallet.

For people using mobile wallet treat it as a hot wallet. And even more so if rooted/jailbroken.  Make sure not to store lots of coins on it.  It is more for small immediate spending.

Cold storage like paper or others are much better long term. Espically if were talking about big amounts of BTC.

I was curious about using a 240v? pdu for my antminer s7 but have zero experience with them. I believe my house has a line in it that I may be able to utilize but I need to have an electrician look it over first (2 20amp fuses with a funny looking outlet presumably for a window a/c unit?). I was curious what brand pdu everyone is using  and what type of plug end it has?? Do these have built in surge protection? I currently use multiple corsair psu hooked up to some battery backups but no way to remotely reset them while I am away. Sorry, I am fairly new to this

Are you saying 2 20 together?   Like the ones with the bar between them hooking them together.  Or are you saying two separate breakers?  (40 amp would be a TON to give a window AC I cannot imagine any window ac having this, that is why I want you to check).    Does your fusebox have written inside what goes to what?  If you had a good electrician it will.... if lazy one it will be blank.

But on PDU I owe it to phil.  You can get them much cheaper on ebay they the stores.  I was looking at amazon and such and used working PDU's show up a lot on Ebay.

But I think find out more about the fusebox and go from there.  But if you feel uncomfortable with power get a electrician as there is a lot of power.  So it all kinda depends on you.

Yea, for that I would assume a standard dryer hookup as those are usually 40 amps.

It's hard to tell being across the internet.  I know I have a lot to my kitchen to.   I'm hoping it is written on the inside of his box.

But so far I'm not sure if him looking at it is good.  I don't like to tell people to go check in it unless they are confident.  And electrician will give quote for free if you are wanting 240 and not conformable doing it.   Some are much better then others at telling you what your current setup is.

Are you in europe? Or us?

But:

Here is what the wall outlet looks like, right next to a window. There are 2 separate 20 amp fuses in the box next to eachother turned off. They are labeled "httr I flor 240" .... the previous owners were European that spoke very poor English

That looks more like a 110/120 outlet.  220/240 tend to be much bigger.  Some one correct me if they think different.  Here is a example of my 240 recpetical. http://www.lowes.com/pd_197494-334-L630R-L_0__?Ntt=l6-30r&UserSearch=l630r&productId=1056959&rpp=48
