3961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake, a.k.a. "Clamcoin" on: February 26, 2017, 02:39:56 PM
please forgive this noob question as i am sure the answers are in this thread.

just stumbled upon clams and i have had a btc wallet since 2011. to claim the clams i install the client, stick bootstrap-000.dat in the data dir, run it and import the btc core wallet. it will find the any clams i may have, at that point can i send the amount to a paper wallet or exchange without waiting for the whole clam blockchain syncing (i have limited bandwidth)?

from what i have read so far i do not need to sync past block 10000 (which bootstrap-000.dat contains) to see if i have clams, just want to know if i need to sync it further to send the clams elsewhere.

it does understand the current core wallet format? i have core 0.12.1

thanks for any answers anyone can give me.

OK so my miner has been running for 7.5 days without a hitch.  Do I just leave it running and wait for an issue or do any maintenence checks?

just let it run.

i do monitor the hashrate/temps with ethman a couple times a day. if something is way off (very unusual) i reboot the rig.
3964  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Be careful of Trojan.Coinbitclip on: February 23, 2017, 04:26:06 PM
in addition to the 1st and last few i check a few in the middle.

i would think this trojan could be used for most any coin. all it needs to do is recognize the address format to substitute an appropriate address for that coin.

bare usb 2 sockets and plugs? they have 4 wires and are easy to connect/disconnect.

I know you arn't up for loans etc. maybe an IPO or something at btcpop? let people buy shares, knowing the risk etc?

Just a thought Smiley

I wonder how you guys even work profitable. Let's say the Ether price will be stable at $13 for the next year and I buy two RX 480 with a hash rate of 50MHs. They had to run like half a year until they amortized. Do you focus for the long run and hope the price will go up or do you sell your Ethers after you mined them?

typically i sell half right away, and keep half "just in case" moon happens.
3968  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.1 (Windows/Linux) on: February 21, 2017, 01:20:01 PM
With v.12.1 I have 'Memory can not be read' error. With 12 it is ok. 6*380x/win 8.1/15.12. Any suggestions, please?

is this message from the miner or windows? what intensity? how much system ram? swap file size? psu brand and wattage? any bios tweaks on the cards(s). what are the cards clocks (core/mem)?

3969  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: February 21, 2017, 01:12:09 PM
Any idea on how to get this miner to stop flagging my Windows 10 Windows Defender?

Open Defender and
Click  on the Gear Setup and
go to "Add a folder exclusion "
navigate (browse) to the folder to be excluded.
add the folder.

all my miners are under a "_miners" folder that is excluded from scans, so all miners are excluded in one shot.. makes it easier than adding miners one by one.

i also added the download folder to the exclusion list or as soon as the dl finishes avast would quarantine it.

You should also look into these used HP & DELL core 2 duos PCs, they are sold at a very cheap price and have 3-4 PCIe slots. As electricity is not a big concern where I m located, i am planning to expand using these. So the CPU will run as independent system and the 3-4 GPU can run over extenders and a separate PSU.

i would be careful of dell boxes. one vostro 410 I had could only take one video card, period. plug any other vc card in to another pcie slot and that video card and the mobos on boards nic would be be disabled. tried all the pcie slots for that second cards and either no boot at all, or just the primary vc would come up but no network or 2nd card. weird.

otoh a vostro 420 was fine with 2 cards.

both were c2ds. go figure..

obviously you will also need to upgrade the psu too.

when on massive antibiotics taking probiotics can sometimes help with your guts functioning..

Ethambutol is not like a typical antibiotic you have taken. Read up on it.

my mistake, just read up on it. pretty potent stuff. im sure the side effects suck a lot. it will be worth it when you come out the other side well.

when i was laid up for a year with a broken back (now fused with 90% of my mobility back) i had a nook (the original e-ink one that the display looks like paper), an ancient (even by the standards of the day) notebook and plenty of real books by the bedside. friends hit the library every few days for me for books as well as bringing food and companionship.

body may of been wrecked but i at least didnt want my mind to atrophy too. hence, no TV for me, not that there was much worth watching then (or even now unless you count the science and history channels).

incidentally my cat loved me being in bed for months on end except for the hour walks i needed to take several times a day. curled up by my neck and slept more or less continuously. never saw a cat sleep so much in my life Smiley

Are those big enough for Windows and/or Linux, if you include swap?

they work with smOS  -------- tested and working
they work with Eliovp panda os --- tested and working

I would think they would work with a standard linux os ?
I would think they would work for pimp os

I would think they are small for windows and won't work

windows would be a no-go, swap file alone would be 16 gb for certain miners.

my wifes netbook (win10) has a 32 gb built in ssd and just barely makes it. had to add a sd card to give it some breathing room to put data/programs on.

glad youre feeling a bit better.

when on massive antibiotics taking probiotics can sometimes help with your guts functioning..

btw if this is your volume of typing while under the weather.. well i cant help but wonder what kind of keyboard you use when youre fully up to speed.. is your plank water cooled by any chance? or do you just replace em when the keycaps melt off from the friction?

anyway looking foreword to more info on your project, and wishing you a speedy recovery.

2. Wished I had a small air compressor thing instead of buying these damn air sprays. I could had done more cleaning but I ran out of air spray. Any suggestions?

any cheap pancake style will work, you can get then under a hundred bucks easy on sale, and they come with basic attachments including a blowgun.

only down side is they spit moisture every so often, just watch out for that.

havent used canned air in years.

something along these lines, only mine is a bit smaller (a craftsman 120 psi 2.5 gallon).

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Porter-Cable-3-5-Gal-135-PSI-Pancake-Compressor-PCFP02003/203254365

all you need is 100 psi, believe me thats plenty pressure for computers.

thanks vapourminer -- this is great. I will look out for it.

I wonder if there is a computer specific - air compressor - even smaller than 100 psi.

not sure if they make smaller ones  but with those pancake compressors you can dial the psi down to whatever you want. 120 psi is just the max mine can do i can set it to 5 psi if i want.
3975  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Data Center Mining Garage and Man Mining Cave on: February 20, 2017, 11:56:26 AM
It absolutely would.  ReLive drivers don't play well with mod BIOS.  It put back the whole signature mess.  DONT USE IT.

If I recall .... its because of this signature signing mess that prompted me to use smOS ..... I sleep better now with Linux.

If you ask me.... I dont even know what the most recent version of the Crimson driver...  Grin

gotta love the relive drivers.. NOT. i have a strap modded 470 and tried the relive 17.1.x driver. installed to the end with NO error message but didnt actually install the driver. like wtf?? least it could of done is toss a message saying "driver not installed".

back to 16.10.x for me.

@ vapourminer  - Square D makes a good one too.  I can have this side mounted as well but it would require drilling thru the metal panel which I don't want.  The wires are very short and won't reach top.  My Electrician assures me it's high quality and I don't need to look at it daily.  He said he will be happy to come open the panel and check for me every quarter if it makes me happy.  =)

@yun9999

chose the square d as my electrician recommended it. it has 2 green "Im OK" lights on it visible from the outside of the case, if either goes off its time to replace the MOVs (which are user replaceable).

my 200 amp panel has no real room in it for an internal unit, so..

i love the whole house suppressor bit as it also protects my 220 v hybrid hot water heater (air sourced heat pump based) and my 220 v geothermal (ground sourced heat pump) system.

[bit off topic follows, unless you will get backup power in your setup)

also put in a 7000 watt generac transfer switch to go with the 8500 watt key start briggs and stratton generator while we were at it. peace of mind is worth it. winter gets COLD here in the northeast with no power. not to mention having A/C in the summer when the power drop out. we have several power failures per year here, some several hours long. thats what we get for living in the sticks.

best part about the generator and transfer switch: my wife can switch the whole thing over safely start to finish with no help needed.. no risk to her or linesman working out on the poles.

3978  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Now that usb sticks are being sold by sidehack here is a new usb hub thread. on: February 20, 2017, 10:32:59 AM
Those superbpag hubs are not great for high power usb miners.

They'll power em for a while but overheat and commit suicide

whats "high power?"

i ran 5 compacs at just under 2 amps each plus an artic usb fan  for months.

did have the artic fan partially aimed at the hub as well as the sticks.

It's recommended to purchase a 50AMP breaker for your Panel where this Surge Protector connects to.  It's also best to have it connected closest to the Main power feed.  I had to have a few breakers move in order to support this.  My outdoor panel

interesting, my square d whole house suppressor is in a separate box that mounts next to my mains panel. it also has replaceable MOVs, as well as connectors for my phone and cable.

I think one of my prized possession the ultra dependable EVGA-1600-G2 is showing the symptoms of death...

After slightly more than 1 year of non-stop 24x7 mining, had to reboot this PSU yesterday... started the rig and a second later, stops... and comes back alive again, then stops repeatedly.

I had to shutdown the whole rig (6 x R9-Nano powered risers, Asrock H81 BTC, 8gb, 120ssd, smOS) - unplugged power cord/point and left it over night.

Today... no luck. Same thing.... starts-stop-starts-stop-repeatedly. Power supply and cabling should be OK since it was working for so long.

Anyone had this experience before?

I hope the remedy is just changing the power cord or re-seat the RAM of something... otherwise this will be my first RMA out of the 9 units that I have in the farm.

The other rigs uses EVGAs 1300w-G2 and 1000w-G2.

i would stat by pulling all psu connectors (both ends if modular) and inspecting them. corroded or dirty pins can be a problem but i cant see just that power cycling the psu, usually shorts do that. but cant hurt to check.

of course reseating all mobo components is a good idea too.
