3981  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Post halving life - What are you doing with the farm? on: May 22, 2020, 04:02:49 AM
M10s are nearly as efficient as an underclocked S9, well 70w vs 65w, so sadly I doubt it will be profitable anymore, gears with =< 30w/th are about to come online, people with 2-3 cent power still run 70-90w/th gears, people with free power still run ( and will for a very long time) => 90w/th gears, pretty soon the difficulty will adjust to accommodate all these different classes, and as usual, people who pay 6 cents and above will have to be closer to the most efficient gears rather than the opposite, I think in 4-5 months you will be forced to mine with at 45w/TH or something close to that, even your M20s will be at risk if the price of BTC doesn't spike fast enough.

Sad enough, demand on S9s in China seems to have increased ( probably due to the rainy season which is starting soon and people get pretty cheap power rate), surprisingly it's cheaper to buy S9 in the U.S than in China, saw an offer for $25 in the U.S, while the Chinese are still maintaining the 40-50 levels, so things don't look pretty for the average joe who pays a ton for power, there will most likely be a drop in difficulty as a post-halving effect, some of these gears might be profitable for a little while, but it's a matter of a few months till they become not anymore, I am sorry if this sounds like fud or anything, I know you know too well to be needing my advice, but this more like a piece of general advice to other newbies, if you don't efficient gears, plan accordingly before it's too late.
3982  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need help/ideas on high speed internet for mining farm in remote areas on: May 21, 2020, 10:04:45 PM
The problem with the internet over satellites is not the downtime, it's the latency, it's above 500ms on average, imagine you mine a block and it has to go from your miner, to your router, from your router to the dish installed on your roof, then travel over 20,000 miles to orbit where the geostationary satellite is located, and then comes down another 20,000 miles to the NOC placed on planet earth, and then from there it gets sent over the regular internet, that is a lot of traveling, certainly not good for mining by any means, unless this technology has improved substantially since I last read about it, which I of course doubt.

The best option for mining in a remote area would be the use of Point to Point communications, they are cheap and easy to install, but depending on the nearest source of the internet from where you are located and also the geographical location and the existence/absences of mountains and other obstacles - P2P might not be feasible, you need to hire a professional who would then need to visit the site and evaluate the situation, but before you do that, simply ask about the nearest source of internet.

The second best option would be using cellular data (3g/4g), the problem with those is that they are somehow expensive and most data plans if not all don't have an unlimited quota, so you will have to pay for every byte, so you need to do the math:

It is safe to assume that each miner will use 4kbps, that is roughly a 50MB per day, say you have a 100 miners that will be 5GB per day, so if your provider charges 2$ per GB, you will need to pay $4 a day or $120 a month, some providers charge over $10 per GB so that's $600 a month, you need to ask your ISP about the cost, you could, of course, set up a mining proxy and then all of the 100 miners will consume 50MB a day.
3983  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Asic.to Firmware S17+ 95th/s and T17+ - 80th/s T17 44t@45w/t • S17/T17/S17 Pro on: May 21, 2020, 08:30:52 PM
What he said. *read a post above mine*

None of that answers my questions, he clearly mentioned this

Using his firmware is simply supporting breaking the license and makes you just as bad as him.

I agree 100% to this very statement, but doesn't this also mean that buying mining gears from manufacturers who refuse to release the code upon request such as Bitmain and MicroBt is as bad as using a custom firmware by a random developer who refuses to do the same thing?

What makes Bitmain any different from Asic.to / Awesome miner? They all use cgminer one way or the other, they all violate the GPL 3.0 license, they should all be sued and forced to either release the code, pay a certain amount of fine or both.

But I don't see kano protesting against the purchase of mining gears from Bitmain and Microbt, in fact, he has no problem making a profit by running a pool which makes most if not all of its profit from mining gears made by companies that refuse to release the source code, almost every single block kanopool finds comes from either Bitmain or Microbt gear running a firmware that uses the cgminer code without releasing the source code for it. so kano has a problem with people using custom firmware, but he doesn't have a problem with making money out of those gears that violate the license.

My previous question on why hasn't anyone sued bitmain for this was not a random question, if anything it's jeff garzik who could sue them and probably directly get credited a handsome amount of money in his account, mind you jeff garzik is the original developer of the cpuminer who was assigned by Satoshi himself which then -ck used the cpuminer code to write cgminer which then was improved by Kano (I thank him for that despite his attitude). Jeff has a ton of money, he can probably hire the best lawyers and sue the heck out of all of these license violators, but he is not doing this, neither is -ck, which means they either know that it will be a lost-case or they simply don't give a fuck about it.
3984  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Miner Full Control Unlock All Settings on: May 21, 2020, 08:10:09 PM
Now if the tweaks were released as simple patches to be applied to existing miner code like this then the license issue is removed (aside from BM's violation of course).

Exactly what I have been trying to tell Kano but never listens, I mean did he even bother looking at the software GUI?

IP addresses > changed via web GUI.
Mining mode > changed via web GUI.
Fan speed     > changed via web GUI.
Temp control > changed via web GUI.

There is 0 lines of cgminer code involved in this, 100% of these features are available in default firmware, all op is doing is making them all available in one little fancy looking GUI.

How is required to provide cgminer code for this software when he probably didn't even see the code to make this?
3985  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Miner Full Control Unlock All Settings on: May 21, 2020, 07:28:47 PM
If you are distibuting a firmware that includes cgminer/bmminer/anycrapminer based on the cgminer code ... you are required to provide source code on request

What OP is trying to sell/give/distribute does not include any part of the cgminer code. Is it hard for you to understand simple English?  Roll Eyes

This is not firmware, it's a software that uses web browser commands to change functions in the miner via the web interface, in other words, I can create the exact same software without even reading the cgminer code.

Based on your request, even I have to provide the cgminer code for this trick, and this, that's what OP is distributing, his software is an automation of the things we do manually via the web browser, if you don't get it, I can't help you with that. sorry.

3987  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: T17e review. on: May 21, 2020, 01:54:50 AM
None that I am aware of, the only reputable custom firmware I'd trust would be Braiin's or Vnish (Asic.to and Awesomeminer), you shouldn't trust any firmware without doing your due diligence.

You could contact taserz (Asic.to) or/and patrike (Awesomeminer) to see if they have any plans to support the T17e.

Your reward if pool finds block now

3990  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Please vote for Bitmain to enable Low Power Mode for T17, T17E, T17+, S17E, S17+ on: May 20, 2020, 11:31:55 PM
I just discover that braiins lets you work around s9 dead heat sensor chips.

Any firmware can potentially bypass the temp sensor if the developer wants it to, it's a very simple and easy thing to do, however, that's way too dangerous to be done. if it's done for testing purposes only - then that's a good thing so that you can eliminate the possibility of having bad Asics, but you shouldn't do that to an unattended miner, you could set everything on fire.
3991  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Asic.to Firmware S17+ 95th/s and T17+ - 80th/s T17 44t@45w/t • S17/T17/S17 Pro on: May 20, 2020, 09:53:45 PM
[...]

I don't disagree with whatever you said, but allow me to ask you a few questions and I would appreciate it if you would answer me "politely" ( I know I am asking for too much from you  Grin).

Bitmain and almost every other mining gear manufacturer sell their miners with a firmware which is based on Cgminer, almost NONE of them provides the source code even upon request (Except for Avalon IIRC), so in short, they all are violating the license because they don't sell you a mining gear unloaded, it has the firmware INSIDE it.

Mind you that is not only Chinese manufacturers, some manufacturers like Obelisk located in Massachusetts also do the same exact thing, so it seems like nobody gives a **** about the license or everyone's lawyer told them it was ok to do so because it's strange to see a dozen of people breaking a license for nearly a decade now and yet nobody went to jail for that, please elaborate why doesn't anyone seem to care but you, and why don't you or anyone else sue all these people for breaking the license?

3993  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: May 20, 2020, 07:57:17 AM
I am thinking next jump will see a drop of 6-9%

I think more is doable, assuming price won't be going any higher, the average time for the 20 blocks we found so far is 18 mins, 20 blocks is without a doubt a very tiny sample, but it does show that a good portion of the hashrate has left the network, also the fact that used S9s are going on sale!!, you can find them for $25-30 with PSU, this tells me that a lot of them just went offline the past couple days and that's why the price is low, and until those gears find a new "home", I think a sharp drop in difficulty is imminent, my guess is 10-15% for this epoch.

share actual difficulty ؟

Maximum difficulty of shares found

3996  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T17/S17 Temp Sensor problem discussion. on: May 20, 2020, 03:47:28 AM
EDIT: i just found info on the net that lot of people have problems with the heatsinks falling in this units, i guess was not the underclock autotuning.

I confirm, in fact you didn't have to go so far, reading this section alone, you will notice that the majority of the problems reported happen because a losen heatsink/chip, it's almost always the case ignoring the obvious PSU/Network issues.

Quote
PSU is good, need go to my office (where my soldering equipment is) to put the heatsinks back to the bad board and see if it work, i will salvage the sensors from the fry board to fix the other one...

Before you do that, I suggest you apply some pressure on all other heat sinks (from one of the sides) just as if you are trying to remove them, by doing so, you will be able to take out all the heatsinks that are due to fall either way, so it's better to fix them all at once than having to come back to the same issue a week or two later.
3997  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S17 pro fixed Frequency and Voltage default firmware on: May 20, 2020, 03:25:05 AM
Ok, it's clear now, so it has a possibility of happening in a minimum of 30 mins and a maximum of infinity, perhaps you could set the fans at max or 90% to avoid overheating the middle chain at 18.3 volts?

Also if you are using awesomeminer monitoring software, you could use the functions of the "rules" to reboot the miner when the middle chain drops, something like this.

@AlecMe

I went into great detail explaining the cause of this issue in my topic but let me summarize the part which matters for you, you have a faulty PSU.

There are mainly two types of sensor errors, one which fails to read temps on all sensors on all boards (your case), this is without a doubt a PSU issue, the other one where only a single board fails to report temps, that board has a bad chip/heatsink.

In both scenarios, you should always Sdflash that miner and then flash the latest firmware, if the problem remains, then for your case, test the miner with a different PSU.
4000  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S17 pro fixed Frequency and Voltage default firmware on: May 20, 2020, 01:14:49 AM

So this means the settings do get saved, but unfortunately for your particular case it doesn't stick for longer than 30 mins, did I get this right? you should consider vnish firmware (asic.to / awesome miner), those auto-tune every chip individually which is even better than tunning the whole chain, because in the end, the board that drops constantly could be doing so because of a single bad chip, what the firmware will do is tune that chip alone at a very low frequency and leave the rest of the chips at a higher frequency, that 2% fees might be justifiable in your situation.
